This is a character and relationship expansion thread for Create a Clan (CAC), a roleplay-like forum game where players create a clan and then have to grow it, feed its members, survive attacks and disease, and attend Gatherings. It's extremely fun and I recommend you take a look.

Leader
Honeystar / 20 moons / molly / X

Story
Honeystar sat beneath the roots of The Tree, contemplating the series of events that had led her to where she was now. First had come the dreams, then the Moonpool, and finally her claiming this territory for Forestclan. Only she was a leader without followers, and this bothered her a great deal. No clan could function without its warriors and medicine cats of all ages. She wondered if it would be appropriate to request Starclan to send her a companion. It wouldn't be too much trouble, surely. She stood up, looking back at The Tree. She would have to come up with a better name for it by the time she came back.

***
As Forestclan was far from the Moonpool, it took Honeystar most of the day to reach it. Once there, the sky had grown dark; the perfect time to communicate with Starclan. However, she hesitated for a moment. Would Starclan grant her wish, when she was only one leader out of many who solicited favors? She shook off her fears and lapped up some of the water, falling alseep quickly. When she opened her eyes, she was surprised to find herself in a world of mist. The last time Starclan had sent a dream to her, she had been in the forest of her new home. She would think about this later.

"Cats of Starclan," she said, "I know that I am a new leader, and I need your help. Would you be so kind as to send me a..." Here, she paused for a moment. The clanmate she would request would help shape the clan for generations to come. This was an extremely important decision. Finally, she spoke. "I would like you to please send me a medicine cat." She recieved no answer, but when she blinked, she found herself lying on the ground next to the Moonpool. She stood, hoping that her wish had been granted. It was now time to go home.

***
As she walked home, Honeystar contemplated her empty stomach. Surely it wouldn't be too much trouble to go fishing quickly before returning to camp. There were many streams within her territory, and the dark would hide her shadow from the fish, as well as make them sluggish. Yes, she would fish. Her next course of action decided, the leader hurried back.

By the time she reached the familiar forest of Forestclan, the sky was darkening. While she could still see, she hoped that she wouldn't fall into one of the streams. While she knew how to swim, the recent floods made it far more dangerous. She reached the banks safely, but as she reached out her paw to prepare, she heard a soft voice.

"Excuse me, but are you one of those clan cats? I might be of service."

Honeystar whirled around and saw a small black tom crouching near one of the boulders, eyes on the stream. "Who are you?" she asked, unwilling to tell him who she was just yet.

"I'm Crow. A healer. I don't have a home and I don't want to drown."

Honeystar gave a smile in return. A healer would certainly be useful to her tiny clan, and she couldn't let him drown, especially as it seemed that he couldn't swim. A sudden thought struck her; what if Starclan had sent Crow to her? She would be a fool not to accept him.

"I'm Honeystar of Forestclan," she said finally. "You're welcome to join my clan as a medicine cat--that's what we call our healers--but you'll have to change your name if you do."

Crow sighed with relief. "I'd be happy to join Forestclan, and if you require me to change my name, I'll change it."

"Follow me, and I'll show you the camp."

***
A quarter-moon later, Crow had passed the trials and been renamed to Crowcloud because while he showed no expertise in any one skill, he remained calm throughout. The two had also started the arduous process of clearing out the camp and making room for the dens that would house cats of all ranks. Their current priorities were the leader's den and the medicine cats' den, which had been almost completely cleared out. However, they had discovered tunnels connecting some of the dens which would need to be blocked. But for now, it was alright.

Medicine Cat
Crowcloud / 20 moons / tom / X

Story
A moon had passed since Crowcloud had become Forestclan's medicine cat, and he had grown comfortable with Honeystar. He was eager to take on the role as both healer and seer, because while he wasn't entirely convinced that Starclan existed, he was glad that as more cats joined, he would be able to help them. Helping was what he had done his whole entire life, after all. But today, he and Honeystar were hunting, because though there were only two of them, there never seemed to be enough prey.

"Would you consider yourself a good hunter?" asked Honeystar, breaking through Crowcloud's thoughts.

His whiskers twitched. "Not really, no," he admitted.

"That's what practice is for!"

Crowcloud laughed. "How true. And yet between searching for herbs and cleaning out the camp, there never seems to be enough time to hunt."

"You aren't missing much. You know how the weather's been."

"I still remember how you found me: hiding under a rock."

"And now you're Forestclan's medicine cat! How the times have changed."

Honeystar and Crowcloud kept chatting as they moved through the forest, avoiding the river and streams. Though the constant rain had let up, the swollen waters were still dangerous. As they patrolled, Honeystar noticed movement. Someone was shadowing them, it seemed.

"Who's there?" she called. Crowcloud looked confused before she flicked her ears to the bushes, where he too caught the movement. The bushes rustled as a pale brown molly emerged.

"I-I'm Dusty," the molly stammered. "I've been looking for a group to join, but I've been chased out of the other territories and I heard that the loner groups are vicious. I was hoping to join you."

"You're heard of Forestclan?" asked Honeystar, surprised.

"N-no, not by name," Dusty said. "But I've heard that some groups are accepting new members and I wanted to join. You know, to survive. It's a dangerous world out there."

Crowcloud nodded in agreement. He remembered quite well what it was like to be a lone healer. Everyone tried to press him into service until he joined Forestclan as a means of escape. While he like to help others, he hated being forced into it.

"Well," said Honeystar, "you can join my clan but you'll have to change your name."

"Anything!"

"Then until you've passed the trials, you'll be known as..." Honeystar paused to think of a good prefix. Something better than Dusty. Finally, she settled on one. "You'll be known as Duck." The newly renamed Duck gave a shy smile and lowered her head as a gesture of acceptance and submission. She would be a loyal warrior, Honeystar thought. And with a little boost to her confidence, and outstanding contributor.

***
A quarter-moon later, Duck had recieved the suffix of -pelt because while she, like Crowcloud, wasn't outstanding in any single skill, she was well-rounded and determined to do her best. Honeystar was proud of the warrior and took to chatting with her while Crowcloud organized his herbs or hunted for more.

"How did you end up here?" asked Honeystar as the two mollies lay in the center of camp. There was some sun out, a pleasant change from the seemingly endless rain.

"I just wantered around until I came here," replied Duckpelt. "No one really told me to go anywhere. Why did you found Forestclan?"

Honeystar had to think for a moment before she answered. "It's been my calling my whole life," she said. "Even as a clowder kitten, I had visions of Starclan calling to me."

Duckpelt snorted. "I don't know what to make of Starclan. They certainly haven't helped me."

"But you ended up here, no?" Honeystar pointed out. Duckpelt's tail waved in acknowledgement and Honeystar continued. "When I was old enough to leave, I looked for the Moonpool and when I found it, asked Starclan if I could become the leader of a clan. They showed me to this territory and here we are."

"In a few generations, I'm sure that the story will be wildly different," said Duckpelt wryly.

Honeystar laughed. "The great Honeystar battled loners and rogues to claim the land, only to find that badgers had settled! And then she fought them herself to prove herself worthy of Starclan's aid."

"Something like that."

"Can you make it any wilder?"

"I'm not sure; your story seems crazy enough!"

Honeystar and Duckpelt laughed and continued making up stories that they'd tell the kits of the clan. By the time that Crowcloud had come back, they were laughing so hard that he even asked if they were alright. When he was ignored, he simply put down the prey and went into his den to rest.

***
Honeystar coughed and her ears flicked backwards with annoyance. Duckpelt was out hunting, and Crowcloud was searching through his herbs to find something that could ease the cough.

"How bad is it?" he called, voice echoing through the still-unblocked tunnel that connected his den to Honeystar's den.

"Not"--she coughed again--"too bad. Just annoying."

"Mhmm."

A few moments later, Crowcloud stepped into Honeystar's den, carrying in his mouth a golden droplet with a few yellow leaves on a shiny leaf. "Honey won't cure the cough, but it'll soothe your throat," he mumbled through the leaf. "Eat all the tansy. That should help." He placed the leaf in front of her and waited until she had eaten all of it to continue speaking. "It probably won't work right away; you'll been to keep eating tansy for a couple more days. But it should get rid of the cough soon."

"Thanks," Honeystar said. Her throat felt better already and she managed to suppress the cough she felt coming up her throat. A moment later, however, it escaped and she coughed.

Crowcloud laughed. "I told you it doesn't work right away!"

Story
Honeystar was proud of her small but growing clan. Crowcloud was certainly a big help, because just as he promised, the cough had gone away within a quarter-moon. As there had been nothing to do but hunt, the three cats had focused on clearing out the dens before blocking the tunnels.

"Let's go," Honeystar called to Duckpelt who was lying in a brief strip of sunlight. The warrior stood up and the two padded out of the camp. They were some cat-lengths away from the camp before Honeystar spoke again. "How are you adjusting?" she asked. While Duckpelt seemed to be doing well, the leader still worried sometimes.

"Well," replied Duckpelt. "It's...better. I don't have to worry as much. I'm sure I've told you."

Honeystar looked at the brown-and-white warrior. "What do you mean?" They hadn't talked about their pasts too often, because Honeystar had decided to try and adopt a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. They were all Forestclan cats and whatever lives they had once lived didn't matter anymore.

"A clan supports its members, right?" said Duckpelt. "It's very different from being a loner, where everyone lives for themselves. I know that you'll hunt and fight for me; why wouldn't I do the same for you?"

Honeystar smiled. "That's just what a clan does."

***
The two mollies returned from the hunt having caught two squirrels and a hare. They placed their catches in the fresh-kill pile before lying down in the sun. The rain had returned in recent days, but this was one of the few where they had some sunshine. However, the rain soon came and Honeystar and Duckpelt took shelter in the leader's den.

"Back so soon?" called Crowcloud, padding into the den.

"Oh, come on," said Honeystar crossly. "It's been a while since we set out."

"But it seems like a blink and you're back." Crowcloud sighed and sat down. "Be careful not to get another chill. I can't predict the weather and I don't want either of you to get sick."

"You should worry about yourself too," said Duckpelt. "We don't want our only medicine cat to get sick, do we?"

Crowcloud inclined his head in acknowledgement. "True. But I go out far less than either of you."

"You should get out more," chided Honeystar.

"When the camp's all done," said Crowcloud, ending the conversation with his tone. He lay down and the two mollies soon followed suit.

***
The rest of the moon passed fairly uneventfully, as no one joined and the days were taken up with the monotony of hunting, patrolling, eating, searching for herbs, and clearing out the camp. Soon, a new moon had come.
