Workshop One - Writing Prompt

Prompt: She is more flawed than she seems. Aria's personality is constantly changing, just like her desires & goals. Although one thing sticks with her noneless: her resilience. She's always able to bounce back from any failure or drawback, despite the severity of the situation. Aria is a party lover, her social & outgoing nature never fails to attract attention. Despite the draw attention, she still puts her success & academics in front of anything else. She has trouble controlling her emotions though; at times she feels nothing, & other times she feels everything. Her struggle with controlling her emotions is the main reason for her constantly changing personality.

She often struggles with her own identity. Is this really who I am? What is my purpose? Many people view her differently. Some may scorn upon her as "dense" or "rude", while others praise her as "kind" or "determined". Many people like Aria, although Aria still struggles with her own image. She's constantly comparing herself to others, which makes her rather insecure. It seems that the only time Aria isn't always worried about her appearance is when she draws. Drawing is the best (& hidden) talent she possesses, & her passion allows her to escape the bleak reality of things. Many view her as a passionate party girl (which she is), although Aria views herself as a lonely artist who struggles with expressing her inner emotions.

Workshop One - Day One Exercise

What is your Kalon’s first, middle, and last name (if they have one)?
Marxis Kane
Does your Kalon have a human appearance as well? If so, what do they look like?
somewhat like this - a soft rugged look. He's got long lashes, soft brows, & a killer jawline that is 🔪🔪
Does you Kalon have any family members? If so, blood related or adopted?

Who is your Kalon the closest to? Why?
Parker - Parker works under the same modeling company as Marxis does, so it's not a surprise that they are friends. However, Parker & Marxis are almost identical to each other, & soon enough they became the famous duo "Park & Mark." Park gives him advice on how to pick up chicks, but Marxis fails bc he's not good at flirting.
What sort of occupation does your Kalon have? Do they enjoy it?
Marxus is a model & hell, he loves his occupation. It's probably the only thing he ever cares about. Honestly, it's all he'll ever talk about. He couldn't think of a better occupation.
List some of your Kalons likes and dislikes and give an explanation as to why.
Marxis dislikes the cold - brrrr, he just really dislikes the cold for some reason.
He likes rain! Honestly, he loves everything about rainy days! It means he could relax inside with a warm cup of tea & a book. Marxis also loves the smell of nature after it rains.
What is your Kalons biggest weakness and strength?
His biggest weakness is his ego - he always thinks he deserves to get anything he wants. This gets in the way of maintaining good relationships with others.
On the other hand, Marxis is rather friendly. He can easily make friends & people like to hang around him due to his kind nature.

Write about a time when your Kalon(s) lost something important or someone close to them:
Ding! Aria's phone buzzed, indicating a new message. Aria thought nothing of it; she was used to getting texts in the middle of the night & she decided that it could wait. Suddenly, Aria's phone started shaking violently. Whoever sent her the message was now spamming her inbox.
"ugh," she grumbled with annoyance as she picked up her phone. What did her friends want this time? Why would they never give her phone a break? Especially at an ungodly hour like this.

Rhee????? Where are you? This is important It was her friend. Aria felt her stomach tie into knots. Her friend sounded urgent. Without thinking, Aria immediately started typing a message back. What's wrong Lu? Please talk to me, you're scaring me~ She hesitated before sending the message, & suddenly erased her message. Instead, she tapped on the phone icon. It didn't take long for Lu to pick up.

"Rhee! Oh my god!" Aria didn't know how to respond. There was an awkward silence between the two.
"its about your brother isn't it?" Aria finally asked. Aria & Lu's brother had been on & off for a while, things were too complicated with high school graduation & college coming up. Yesterday, they had gotten into an argument about who knows what, before Aria finally ended everything for good.
"is..." the words stuck at Aria's lips, "is he still mad?"
"No Rhee... It's not that..." A sob suddenly caught in Lu's throat. Aria's heart suddenly sank. It was something bad. Really, REALLY bad. Aria bit her lip as another long moment of silence caught in between them. She didn't need Lu to tell her. She knew the reason why he didn't pick up her calls. A soft sigh slipped through her lips, "he's gone, isn't he?"
"He... Was in an accident. Police suspect it was because he was speeding. Luckily... No one else got hurt. Before he left, he told me about his fight with you. He said 'I just lost the best girl that's ever been mine. God, oh god I don't deserve her, & yet I had her. I'm so, so stupid to have lost her.' He said he should have kissed you longer. He said it was his fault he was so tight on you with your choices for college. He came to say his last goodbye. "
"This is all my fault," Tears flooded Aria's eyes. She really meant what she said. It was her fault. If they hadn't fought, maybe he wouldn't of came for her. He wouldn't have been so distressed & disoriented. Aria couldn't help but sob uncontrollably, "I'm so sorry Lu. Oh god, I'm so, so, so sorry."
"Hey, take it easy okay? It's not your fault."
There was another awkward silence.
"So..." Lu cleared her throat, "the main reason I called was because he probably wanted you to know this anyways. There was a card in the back of his car. Do you want me to deliver it to you?
"No, you can just read it."
"Alright... It says: 'I'm sorry Aria for being so stubborn. I hope you understand that I will forever love you. Have fun where ever you go & shine bright. I love you forever & always."

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why?
Aria keeps promises. She tends to be true to her word. If someone offers her with a promise she knows she cannot keep, she will reject them to avoid dissapointment in the future.
Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why?
She is more of a leader, she hates being controlled or bossed around & is always the first one to take action in something.
If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be and why?
Aria honestly doesn't want to change anything in her past. Despite the fact that her past is filled with regrets & embarassing, Aria is a firm believer of leaving the past behind her.
Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not?
She's rather careless to some extent. Aria only cares for her own happiness, and external opinions don't phase her all that much. However, that does not mean she doesn't care about other’s opinions at all. Random compliments boost her self esteem and definitely make her day. She takes a lot of negative opinions to heart, but she views them as room to improve herself. As long as Aria is happy with herself, she doesn't really take anything too emotionally.
Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict?
Aria likes to argue, and anyone who knows her knows that they could never win an argument against her as she is rather stubborn and sharp mouthed.
Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan?
She's the type of person who'll ask you if you wanted to go to McDonalds at midnight. Aria never had a plan, and she doesn't need one. She just likes to "go with the flow" and see what fate had in store for her.
Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics?
Aria’s little quirks include doodling on her papers, impulsively asking people to hang out, and singing along to her favorite songs in the car. People know her by her humorous characteristic.

Workshop One - Day Four Exercise

Write about them interacting with their favorite thing:
Marxis felt the soft fabric with his hands. Time bit away at its delicate material. The poor thing looked so helpless, it was battered beyond recognition. When Marxis was 5 or so, his grandmother had sown a plump bear for the reckless child. Marcus, who was dumber than a rock at the time, named the bear "Death Dog." Death Dog remained as his best friend until he hit middle school. Poor Death Dog was constantly tossed around & beaten by the violent child (all children are violent :/) the mangled teddy bear was then locked away as the boy grew up. He stayed locked away until many years later, when Marxis had recovered the poor thing when he was packing to leave for university. The once beautiful toy was now dirty & shriveled with time & neglect. Death Dog was ready to be thrown away, but Marxis kept him with him. The bear reminded him of his short, but fun childhood.

"Yo Death Dog. Guess where we're visiting today?" Marxis yelled in excitement. He got no reply. Teddy bears don't talk. It seemed rather odd for a 20 year old model to be talking to a teddy bear. But Marxis was Marxis. He is a specimen that scientists can't explain. Marxis grabbed the mangled bear & tossed him into the air, catching the bear by the feet as gravity pulled the toy back down. Marxis gently placed him onto his suitcase.
" now do me a big favor Death Dog. Don't go anywhere. Partially because I don't wanna lose you but mainly because if you pull an Annabelle on me I'm going to burn this whole hotel down I'm not having it with spooky stuff."

20 minutes later Marxis comes out of the bathroom, freshly groomed & ready to go. The only problem was that Death Dog wasn't sitting on his luggage anymore. Marxis had a full on heart attack until he realized that Death Dog had only fallen off the luggage. So there you have it: the story about how Marxis' favorite toy almost killed him.

Prompt: As a kid, she believed she could do anything. She had a positive outlook on everything until she was absorbed into family problems, never ending sadness, & self hatred. Her life has been a struggle with self acceptance & constantly losing her loved ones.
She struggled a lot academically (Though she wasn't behind or anything - she was doing a really hard learning program & she struggled with the intensity of everything), but she was able to graduate high school with pretty good GPA & SAT scores. She now attends her dream college.

Where do they live and what is the geography like?
Marcus lives in a French city. The city is filled with buildings and skyscrapers, but it also has a lot of green. There are many small markets & people there usually bike or use the bus. Overall, it's a pretty environment friendly city.
What is the society like there, is there a hierarchy?
What kind of technology does the world possess: modern, medieval, fantasy, etc.?
Modern! Many people here possess smartphones & some high tech stuff can be found in the big fancy skyscraper complexes.
Do many or only a few people live here?
Many kalons live here, since it's a city.
Is the history the same as our world, or is it different? If different, how?
The history there is the same.
Is your Kalon(s) considered lower, middle, or upper class?
Upper middle class (??) Marxis is moderately rich due to his high paying job and small fame but not that rich.
What sort of language(s) is commonly spoken here?
Usually French since it's in France, but many there know English too.

Story Behind their Name:
It's actually rather simple. Her parents couldn't decide between the name Arman or Olivia. They finally decided to mash the two names together into another already existing name: Aria. It was short & simple, & both parents agreed on the name. The name fits Aria rather well, since she's rather down to earth & likes to keep things short & simple.

How many different places have they lived:
She has lived in 6 places - 5 of the 6 moves had happened before her 4th birthday. Her dad graduated & was finally done with college after 8 years. Her parents moved from place to place in hopes to find a job. She was born in Ohio, & but then was sent to China to live with her grandparents temporarily as her parents got things sorted out. When she came back, her parents moved to California & then New Mexico before finally settling down to live in Colorado for the next 15 years of her life. Aria was then accepted into an university in New York & now she lives somewhere near NYC.
Why did they settle down where they are currently: Aria loves cities. She had fallen in love with NYC when she visited that place with her parents when she was 14. Despite New York being a beautiful city, Aria definitely doesn't have the money to live directly in New York. Instead, she lives somewhere that is conveniently near both NYC & her college.
Is there an ideal place they want to live, or are they already there: She's already there. Although if she had to choose another place she'd definitely choose San Francisco. (She really likes the Chinatown there lol)
What are the biggest moments that have defined their life: There are many moments that have shaped her to who she is, but one of the most significant moments was when she was still in middle school. In a matter of just a few months, she had turned from being a "pretty" girl who captured the hearts of many to an awkward outcast. Her skin was unfortunately bloated & riddled with acne, & she just didn't seem to fit her body or face anymore. Gotta love puberty. She looked nothing like she did before, she was a completely different person, & Aria didn't like this. She struggled with self esteem issues & finally ended up hating herself. Even after she recovered from this awful stage - her low esteem issues on her physical appearance never went away. It was a struggle she'd have to fight with for a long time. The good thing that came from this is that Aria learned to value personality in others rather than appearance.
Does their future have a bright or darker outlook, and can they change it:
She has a bright outlook! Aria fights hard every day to overcome her struggles, & she can change it if she continues to work hard.
