Workshop One - Writing Prompt

Kalon Name: Rowan

Prompt: Quiet, intuitive, energetic- that, is Rowan. An aloof sort of kalon for the silence he offers everybody, Rowan is a kit with a mind of his own. Happy enough to help around on his parents' farm, he hides any indication of his nighttime persona by working as often as possible, catching sleep between chores when nobody's looking. Right when his parents believe he's heading off to bed after a day of labor, they couldn't have thought of something any farther from the truth... or so he thinks.

Once the moon is a quarter-high in the sky, Rowan sets off onto one of his usual escapades. There is no set goal for these little adventures- they're just his way of truly enjoying the night, without burdening his parents due to his sleeplessness. From fishing and hunting, to watching midnight theater and even pulling some mischief, Rowan relishes in the fun of night life before settling back to working at the farm by daylight. His sense of responsibility always pulls him away before he fully becomes contained within the drunken stupor of 'letting loose'.

Workshop One - Day One Exercise

What is your Kalon’s first, middle, and last name (if they have one)?
Francis, Sasha, Akuma, Corvin, Sasanoha, Kara, Raiyama, Rowan, and Cas'Nova only have first names.
Seiryu (of) Kyougokoro and Steven Ryder are the only ones with confirmed last names.

Does your Kalon have a human appearance as well? If so, what do they look like?
None of my kalons have a confirmed human appearance.

Does you Kalon have any family members? If so, blood related or adopted?
Francis' parents are deeeeeeeeeeeeeeead

So are Sasha's'

Akuma is related to Credit's Senny (cousins). He is also related to my Kara, who are cousins as well.

Seiryu's parents are deceased, but his sister is out there... somewhere.

Corvin's parents are still alive, he just moved away to live somewhere else.

Sasanoha's parents are alive. He has not seen theme since going to the dojo.

Steven's parents are alive.

Kara is brothers with Credit's Senny. They do not get along very well, neither do he and his cousin Akuma.

Raiyama's parents are alive. No interaction with kin.

Rowan is related to DJRainbowDemon's North (older kin) and ege's Scotty and Fenway (parents).

Cas'Nova's family is a mystery.

Who is your Kalon the closest too? Why?
Francis is closest to Sasha after hearing her story and shown the excitement he often avoided. Marries her later on.

Sasha is closest to Francis as she found him quite interesting and peculiar, a contrast to the rugged Russian life. Marries him.

Akuma is closest to Credit's Senny; they create diabolical plans to mess with their kin.

Seiryu is closest to Sasanoha, as his patience is a virtue due to his blindness.

Corvin doesn't get very close to others. His tendency to play with people's loyalties is a turn-off to many.

Steven is closest to Kara as he's never found someone so endearing before. He feels as if he could act whatever way he'd like, and Kara wouldn't mind at all (he really doesn't).

Kara is closest to Steven because he absolutely adores him. That brilliant smile, that air of confidence, that twinkle in his eye... it's all too good for him.

Raiyama isn't very close to many others. His odd sense of fashion, music, speaking, and even his body language puts off other kalons.

Rowan isn't very close to others either. He adores his parents, but feels disconnected in a way- not realizing just how good of a connection they'll actually make...

Cas'Nova is a lone wolf and his best relationships are strictly business.

What sort of occupation does your Kalon have? Do they enjoy it?
Born into a long line of mob bosses, Francis really had no choice but to continue their legacy. He enjoys it at times, having the luxury to do and have what he likes, but it can be a bit stressful at times, especially when things don't go his way.

Sasha is an excessive gambler, Lady Fortuna's golden touch brought down to her by her late father, the Manticore. She enjoys the thrill, as luck is always on her side.

Akuma's just your average guy who's got nothing better to do than being petty. He loves pulling mischief over others and ruining their days.

Seiryu is a wandering swordsman, the legendary blade Daiyabara lighting his path through the darkness. His sense of responsibility however does not get in his way of at least enjoying his journey.

As a bodyguard, some days can be boring, others, exciting- Corvin's just happy he has a job.

While some may feel torn about life as a samurai, Sasanoha revels in it. With a sense of duty to keep him in check, Sasanoha enjoys whatever passing moment of grace he can come by.

Steven could never wish for more! Street racing has always been in his interests, straight from childhood. Cars, speed, danger! Maybe not so much danger, but cars, sure!

Kara's got no job, but plenty of money. Sure, that's enjoyable- but how is that happening?

Raiyama's just a kid. Sure, school's cool, but not his cup of tea.

As the child of farmers, Rowan does some work here and there to help out. He goes to school (... at times) however, so I believe he'd just be a student. Rowan does not like school however and, unfortunately, ditches at times, a trait indirectly brought down to him by his fathers.

Cas'Nova doesn't say much on the topic of being a beloved idol. He has never implied whether he disliked it or liked it, so that's up for debate.

List some of your Kalons likes and dislikes and give an explanation as to why.
Rowan enjoys the nighttime, for its cold and luxurious calm; the winds flying over grain, for they bring a fresh air of adventure; and his scarf, which keeps him safe and warm, always.
He dislikes the summer sun, as it practically melts him into immobility; the still air, as if nothing in this world was there; and confined spaces, for their energy is more than what a room can handle.

What is your Kalons biggest weakness and strength?
Francis' biggest weakness is his trust. He is especially trusting of others, and finds trust the first step to the perfect deal. This can go both ways, however, as his this ambition can allow those suspicious of him feel more comfortable.

While a slick and stellar woman, Sasha has a tendency for violence. If things don't go her way, someone's got to pay. Although this is an attractive trait to a few casino-goers, she doesn't like it herself. On the other hand, her unique looks can help her prevent such violence. Beauty speaks!

Akuma's tendency towards chaos is impeccably strong, for he seeks no other joy but the bad things that happens to those he dislikes. But it is evened out by his OTHER tendency to go away from purity, kindness, all those things that make him gush so uncomfortably. It 'weaken's him in some sort of strange, spiritual way, which is why he never attends weddings.

One of Rowan's biggest weaknesses is his dislike for interaction. He cannot sit still long enough to hold a conversation, and thinks about too much to stay on a single topic. Where his mind wanders, he, too, wanders along. Rowan's biggest strengths however truly shines when he puts his mind to something. Whether it's to protect a friend or to find that certain something, he is able to accomplish whatever mission he bestows upon himself with extreme tenacity.

Workshop Two - Day Two Exercise

Write about a time when your Kalon lost something important or someone close to them:

"Papa?"
It was bound to happen. The Manticore had many enemies, and no matter what he could never shake his gambler reputation. He tried, quite desperately too, to change into a better man- one that could safely raise his young daughter. With her mother gone, he had to raise her alone, but even as he moved from city to city they were never safe for long. A knock on the door, and the bags were packed with whatever they could find.
But not this time.
Those knocks by midnight were unexpected, as both father and daughter were asleep in their beds. A shaking of the door knob, a click, a creak. A criminal holds his weapon up- go in, go out, was what he was told to do. Never mind anybody else. With him gone, no more of their money would be taken.
A silence. How he knew, Sasha herself didn't know. Without her giving even the slightest stir, he opened up the floorboards and hid her in the space below. Covering the trap door with a blanket, he stood against his opponent, unarmed.
To be shaken awake so suddenly, and to find yourself in a small, tight space certainly terrified Sasha. She felt as sweat began to pour, and her breathing quickened. But the loud thud above her kept her silent, even as she wanted to call out for her father.
A creak, a click, a shake of the door knob. The silence, back once more, crept into their temporary, rickety little home. Shoving her arm overhead, Sasha made her way out of the small space.
Oh, the horror, the terror, the pain and the sadness. Sasha had never known loss, and her uncertainty fueled that fear. No matter what, though, papa didn't move. She wailed, a pitiful wail, akin to the fawn who hears the shot that takes his mother's life. Lost, alone- what was she to do?
By morning, the snow was thick with a freshly fallen layer. One, single bird sat solemnly on an icy branch. It did not sing.

Write about a time when your Kalon lost something important or someone close to them:

"Stand straight, stand tall- and smile, always."
Sure, that sounded reassuring. Smile always- a simple saying that gives people the slightest bit of hope if they so search for it. Certainly that isn't it, however? Smiles do very after all. A happy smile, a strained smile, a sad smile, an evil smile. There are many different kinds of smiles out there. Some are much more beautiful and charismatic than others. Some are much more ugly and distasteful than others. There's one thing in common that they have besides being smiles, though.
They can all be faked.
"Oh, honey, your smile is just fantastic. It's just what we need!"
Since the tender age of eleven, Cas'Nova has been in various forms of entertainment, providing joy to others and inspiring his generation over the years. One notable quality is his smile- a sweet upturn of the lips, with little intimidation and a lot of love. Fans, however, have been noticing a difference over the years. A smile can mean a lot, and his says enough.
Through the years he has learned to do as told, to listen, to entertain, to give what others want from him. So he does just that.
From there, the realness of his smile can be taken into consideration. Is he happy with this life? Does he enjoy this way of living?
Nobody knows.

Workshop One - Day Three Exercise

Kalon Name: Corvin

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why?
Corvin... is not one to keep promises, and making them, even less so. He can't stick to a single kalon for too long, as he tends to become bored of seeing, hearing, feeling the same thing all the time, which is why he always has flings with others. Corvin is unaffected by the pleadings of kalons who vow their love for him, only feeling pity for them. Despite a good and promising reputation as a security guard, the only loyalties that lie there is the money.

Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why?
This is situational, but he'll almost always be a follower. His passiveness allows him to just go with the flow of things, and he'll go with whatever sounds good. In a bad situation, however, he sticks to being a loner to save his own skin...

If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be a why?
Corvin would probably wish for a different childhood. He didn't grow up so well, as his parents shared the same sort of coldness he has today. Maybe, he wonders at times, had they been a bright and sunny pair, he too would be bright and sunny himself. A funny thought, but a thought nonetheless.

Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not?
Not very much. Corvin just knows he's good looking enough to become a quick favorite of others, enough for secure access to more prestigious clubs and parties and even some luxuries. There's always some sort of rich damsel looking for a handsome guy to show them some adventure or a fool waiting to be used.

Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict?
Corvin avoids conflicts at all costs, which is why he skips town when things get too sour or serious. He's not one for fighting situations and prefers to sit these types of things out. As a security guard, however, it is easy to face it, because the aggressors aren't focused on him.

Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan?
Corvin is very much a spontaneous guy. He'll take a trip into town, and whatever club seems the liveliest is where he'll be staying for most of that night. Even if he were to make a plan, he never sticks to it. You never know what unexpected choices will be made.

Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics?
Corvin's got a few notable physical traits. His eyes, bright as they may be, are usually heavily lidded, as if tired from an entire night's work (which is usually it). He tends to tap his knee with his forefinger, always with that familiar rhythm of his- ta, ta, ta. A flick of his tail can be seen from time and time again, but it means very little.

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why?
Akuma only keeps the promises he likes, and these are the ones he usually makes time to listen to. If it doesn't benefit him in any way, it doesn't interest him.

Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why?
Even as he prefers to operate alone, it is not completely untrue that he's willing to make room for others. His leadership, however, focuses on fear, passion, and violence. It is no wonder only to truly screwed are willing to work with him.

If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be a why?
There would be no change made. Akuma is content with how his luck has rolled, every aspect and element of his 'perfectly fine' being constructed by his past with skill... and a couple of hammers.

Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not?
He doesn't, for the most part. He only cares when he wants to, such as the ability to be recognized for some dastardly deed or fantastical 'justice'.

Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict?
Akuma hates to argue. He feels it isn't as fun as just pulling the wool over some hick's eyes and getting the trick done. On the other hand, he does love the string of insults that occurs after some mischief has been pulled. Certainly, he cares quite little for comment!

Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan?
Plans are not really the first thing on his mind, but the ideas conjured in his scheming and planning make Akuma even more excited for what's to come.
Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics?
The glint in Akuma's strikingly bright, yellow eyes and his shining, sharp teeth is sure to scare anybody caught in the dark. His tendency to snicker and laugh at totally inappropriate times is... charming to some, and his smile is a near constant.

If it is not in the interests of his manager, he will not keep a promise.

Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why?
A follower since youth, he doesn't know what to do with himself and would never be able to lead effectively.

If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be a why?
They wouldn't try to audition for anything. It is a locked up secret he keeps deep within his soul.

Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not?
No, because if he were bothered by anything that would upset his higher-ups, and he doesn't want that.

Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict?
They avoid conflict at all costs. It is not good for his reputation to do so.

Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan?
Cas'Nova does not think for himself, but there's always a plan he has to follow every step of the way without fail.

Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics?
He used to smile often, but nowadays he just lets his smile slack.

Prompt: Born in the small fishing village of Kyougokoro, Seiryu was named after a hero of legend in the hopes his future would be prosperous. As he grows, his destiny unfolds with the sudden attack on his village, and the hero of legend marks his way. Help your people find their way, Save the peace the demons wish to destroy. Obtaining the hero's blade Daiyabara after giving up his eyesight, Seiryu embarks on a journey to protect the land, gaining help along the way.

Workshop Two - Day One Exercise

Where do they live and what is the geography like? Seiryu lives in what is basically Japan, but with even more environments (The cold North, The hot South, and The Middle). So, there's basically a desert down south, then a jungle, then your average woods and plains, then mountains and frozen land.
What is the society like there, is there a hierarchy? The same as medieval Japan - The Emperor on top, even though he has little actual power; Then the strong Shogun and wealthy Diamyos, who have all of the power; The loyal Samurai and lost Ronin; and lastly, Peasants, Artisans, and Merchants.
What kind of technology does the world possess: modern, medieval, fantasy, etc.? Both medieval and fantasy. While Seiryu uses a sword, it has magical properties that makes it colder or hotter, lighter or heavier to help him focus on a target since... well, he's blind.
Do many or only a few people live here? There are many kalons spread throughout the lands here, and it isn't too difficult to see who is from where just by their coats.
Is the history the same as our world, or is it different? If different, how? It is different in that a lot of events that occur may or may not have happened due to the meddling of some otherworldly beasts.
Is your Kalon(s) considered lower, middle, or upper class? Some see Seiryu middle class (possession of a sword, can use it) while others see him lower class (peasant with a sword that doesn't belong to them). It is difficult to convince those that think he is a low class that the sword indeed belongs to him, usually having to battle them to prove that point.
What sort of language(s) is commonly spoken here? Japanese I'd imagine. Or neo-Japanese. Something of the sort.

Story Behind their Name: I named him Francis because... French ppl amirite. It's cheesy but tru. I was taking French class around the time I was trying out for him + It's part of my own name + He is French.

Story Behind their Name: I like the name Sasha, like, a lot. It being Russian is also what made me make her Russian. //lame

Kalon Name: Akuma Matsuno

Story Behind their Name: It's a piece of the original name of the character they were based off of, Akumatsu. Akuma means demon, while Kuma can mean bear (which he actually makes me think of coat-wise). He utilizes the name Kuma in his schemes as well, pretending to be better than he actually is. Parents named him so because his mother made a secret, accidental pact with the devil... it's been long forgotten, but its creation still walks this day!

Kalon Name: Seiryu of Kyougokoro

Story Behind their Name: I cannot remember clearly what my thought process was at the time, but I believe I searched up on Asiatic legends and came across the star sign Seiryu, a dragon guardian of the east. The connection with the color blue and spring probably clicked with me since blue flowers stood out in his design. Character-wise, it is common for the children in his village to be named Seiryu for good fortune, after a prominent legend and past protector of the village.

Story Behind their Name: Corvidae is the family which crows come from. Black wings... not much else to say on the matter. Neither do the parents have much to say.

Kalon Name: Sasanoha

Story Behind their Name: Sasanoha is actually the name of a friend of mine, who I adore very much. Along with that, in the original form I noted that Sasanoha comes from a childhood poem, sung on Tanabata, from the phrase 'bamboo leaves, rustling, rustling'. It is perhaps Sasanoha's parents named him in hopes he will grow strong and formidable as bamboo.

Kalon Name: Steven 'Stevie' Ryder

Story Behind their Name: Steven's name was sort of a last-second kind of thing, and I had actually wanted to name him Richard Ryder as a joke. I changed it however (besides being inappropriate LOL) since Richard Ryder was already the name of another character (from elsewhere), and I wouldn't like to look unoriginality in the face. Steven was my second option as it is not as mainstream as Johnny (the obvious cool name) but sounds just as slick to me B) Parents don't have much say on the matter.

Story Behind their Name: Kara is named after the character he was created after. I didn't bother to change it, as naming a character based off of another something else feels weird to me.

Story Behind their Name: Raiyama looks like an ogre... Japanese ogres are connected to thunder, and Raiyama's name means thunder mountain. Name originally discovered through Raijin, god of thunder.

Story Behind their Name: A rowan is a type of tree. Branches grace his coat. Browns. ROWAN.

Story Behind their Name: Casanova, with a modern twist of ' in it. Can also be used as two separate names, so you can refer to him as Cas or Nova. Helps out with themes, as this naming system makes him a candidate for the Halloween-Spooky and Space-Galaxy scenes, which are quite popular.

Workshop Two - Day Three Exercise

How many different places have they lived: Was she supposed to keep count?
Why did they settle down where they are currently: Sasha currently lives with her husband, Francis... in France at a little cottage hidden away from civilization. It is not completely abandoned, but a nice enough spot for the family....
Is there an ideal place they want to live, or are they already there: Russia has always been her home, and she would never miss a chance to go see it again. But always, she and her father would speak of a sunny, tropical place, far from the troubles of the cold, the hidden blackness.
What are the biggest moments that have defined their life: Were Sasha not to attempt to bring her father's name justice in the gambling scene, she'd imagined that she might as well have married her boss's boy, a generic sort of guy. A kind, strong man, but a settler. Sasha can't sit still for very long, you know!
Does their future have a bright or darker outlook, and can they change it: A bright one. Both she and her husband have gone through their troubles, and with a family on the way can only hope for better from there.

If they could write a letter to their past self, what would it say:

Dear Sasha,

I am writing a letter to you, in the hopes that you can find that something to keep you going. You have fallen to hard times... but they won't last forever. The seemingly boring routine of mopping and cleaning- it is only as it is because that is how you want it to be. Papa... he is gone now, but never forget him. Don't you remember, Sasha, how often he spoke of enjoying life? If you can do something, you can enjoy it, too, he would say. Once you learn of this, only then will the light trickle down on you.

Mister Kotovsky, your boss and caretaker, is a good man. Make fun of him all you like - he doesn't mind, I know that - but savor your time with him. Yes, I promise you, your hard times will become easier, but it is rocky. Mister Kotovsky won't be with you forever. In time, you will have to hang up the wash bucket and find a place for yourself out there, in this world you fear so strongly. It is difficult to come to terms with... but it is not all pain.

Remember your father, and what he told you. Every story, every passing conversation you ever spoke with him, will help you grow to become a fantastic woman. I should know... but no answering that. Be a good girl, Sasha, and life will be good to you.
