Workshop One - Day One Exercise



What is your Kalon’s first, middle, and last name (if they have one)? Rufus Marshal Mallow

Does your Kalon have a human appearance as well? If so, what do they look like? He does! His skin is a little pink and pale, with light white hair. His clothes are usually pastel with graphic tees thrown in the mix. He likes to wear big white jackets that are much bigger than he is. Rufus is kind of on the husky side, and his eyes are the same color but with thick bushy eyelashes. He usually makes a nervous face, and doesn't often smile unless he's around Avery.

Does you Kalon have any family members? If so, blood related or adopted? He has a mom (unpictured/Undesigned) and shares a Father (unpictured/Undesigned) with one of my other Kal's, Cassidy. They are only half siblings.

Who is your Kalon the closest too? Why? He is the closest to Avery, because they are so genuine. They don't make him feel bad for being a Demiboy, and they certainly don't judge when Rufus needs that little extra bit of time to get ready to leave. As Rufus has to mentally prep himself for leaving every day, but that's part of what's Avi loves. They love getting to take care of him and seeing the side others don't get to see.

What sort of occupation does your Kalon have? Do they enjoy it? Rufus has an online shop where he makes edible arrangements with seasonal fruits and veggies! He loves it, too, because he doesn't have to come face to face with most of his customers and he can turn his kitchen into an array of beautiful colors.

List some of your Kalons likes and dislikes and give an explanation as to why.
Likes; Fruit, (baby) Animals, Soft voices, Fantasy books, House music, Lullabys, and Avi
Dislikes; Having to order food, Trying to please people, His family, children, Not knowing the plans for the day

What is your Kalons biggest weakness and strength?
Weakness; He gets really nervous and fidgety when he has to confront anyone even for a simple question. He stutters and wiggles his fingers when face to face with someone else. It comes from his father's expectations of himself.
Strength; Rufus is the best at knowing what people need at the time. His gifts lie in helping anyone who needs him, though his weakness sometimes hinders him from doing so.

Rufus is a quiet thing. He's like your everyday introvert: quiet and socially awkward. He likes to sit by himself and read, sometimes even drawing quietly. When he does talk to others, it's usually quiet, stuttering small talk. If he's drinking you can get more of a rise out of him, but he usually won't say much until he gets to know a person. At that point, he really comes alive. He'll sing and make jokes. He loves hearing people laugh, and just overall enjoys it when others are happy

Write about a time when your Kalon(s) lost something important or someone close to them:
(detail the event and the emotions they felt)

For Rufus, the event was when he found out he had a sister;
His mother and Father's relationship was never what one would consider 'normal'. His mother only wanted what was best for Rufus, and he understood that, but there seemed to be such a disconnect between his two parents. Sure, they had to care for each other on some level, but it was always blurred with fighting, drinking and abuse on his fathers part. He tried to demean Rufus, and always treated him more like a little girl than a boy-or man- but Rufus was so impressionable. He thought that's how things were suppose to be.
When his sister showed up, everything changed. The entire family dynamic. Cassidy, his sister, was an adult by the time Rufus was still in highschool. She was backwards and talked with a strange, thick and gargled accent. As she told their father, she had been raised by a forest hag, some type of witch Rufus figured. Cassidy instantly blamed Rufus and his mother for her lack of parents, although anyone could tell you it wasn't their fault.
Cassie had gotten lost on her own accord, but it had been too much for her mother and their shared father to handle. So their father left her mother and found solice in Rufus' mother. But Cassie saw Rufus and his mother as the other family. The reason her parents hadn't tried to find her hard enough. And Rufus felt as though he had missed such a great opportunity to have a sister- he felt she was right.
That was the struggling moment for Rufus. Everything about his family was explained, but it wasn't as fulfilling as he had hoped. There was no happy ending for their family, or for him and his half sister. That's the emptiest part of it all. The loss of someone he didn't even know he had.

Workshop One - Day Three Exercise

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why? Rufus definitely keeps them to the best of his ability. Especially pinky promises. He is actually really worried that if he fails to keep a promise, he gives the other person unspoken permission to break a promise to him.

Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why? Rufus is definitely a follower. He follows Avi around like a little puppy- getting into so much trouble at Rufus' expense.

If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be and why? They would change their meeting with his sister. If it was up to him he never would have met her. Read the exchange here. He feels as though he would feel better about things if he had never known she existed.

Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not? Oh yes, definitely. He cares about his appearance and if people are happy with him, and if people think he is a good person. He cares so much because his father was never happy with who he was, and he was conditioned to believe he was never good enough. So he hangs on people's every feeling about who he is.

Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict? He avoids conflict at all opportunity. Any chance he gets he averts attention from someone angry to something nice. Or himself if he can, to stop the other Kal from feeling bad.

Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan? Rufus definitely needs a plan. He doesn't do well under change, even though that's all Avi, his spouse, lives for. He gets high anxiety when things change at the last moment or two different people expect different things from him at one time.

Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics? Rufus has this bad habit where he thinks he wants to address his friend group and say something, so he'll get all of their attention but when he realizes how many eyes are on him, he begins to get nervous and wishes he hadn't ever tried to say anything. When he is put on the spot he stutters really bad and fidgets with his fingers. He doesn't like it when Avi gets too touchy in public unless he has had a bit to drink.
When it comes right down to it, Rufus believes you should be the change you want to see in the world and will take steps to boost the world around him.

Write about them interacting with their favorite thing:
Rufus's favorite thing happens to be his family. He and his spouse, Avery, are fostering a child in hopes to adopt them! His name is Elliot Chase. Unfortunately, due to Rufus's ugly family altercations, he was quite opposed to bringing a stranger, especially a strange child, into his life. Eventually Avi talked Rufus fostering, and if Rufus enjoyed that, they would adopt!
So, now with Elliot around the house, Rufus realized just how much time he spent at home! Avi goes out every day to work their pub and manages to get home in time for dinner, but Rufus spends most of his time at home! After all, he works from home making his edible arrangements out of fruit! So far, even with Elliot in middle school, Rufus sees quite a bit more of him than Avi most days. And as it turns out, Rufus really likes having someone around. His routine has begun to mold around having Elliot in his life and round the house. He makes fruit leathers for him, gets him ready for school and does all of his house-spouse duties while Avi builds their bank account. This arrangement has led the family of two to have some great holiday moments.
Avi and Rufus don't really celebrate normal holidays, but they do celebrate Halloween and the day after Valentine's Day. Half off candy is one of Elliot's favorite- he even coined it as 'Candy day' and Rufus just eats it up.

Workshop Two - Writing Prompt

Prompt:
Teagan's life began in a quiet corner of a bustling city. There was always noise and somewhere to be with the neighbor kids. Her two mothers both had jobs- Aggie with her tree farm and Rose with her Tea shop. Things were constantly moving and she was always being taught to sit up straight and no elbows on the table. As soon as she could run and fend for herself, or so she thought, she began running to the woods. She would play there and enjoy her own life. In school she learned to play the pan flute and other instruments, being musically talented, and would often play in the quiet of the trees to herself.
That's when she met a strange boy, Kero, who became her first, non blood related, friend. They were tick and thieves as soon as they got to know one another. She would play with him- her on the flute and him on the lute. They made a game out of luring wayward woodland walkers to them with her haunting melodies and would surprise them when they got close. From there they would send them away off to the city streets. This went on for years until Tea moved away from her mother's. She ventured out, and met new people.
She discovered new places and people's. She went on adventures and learned who she was as a person. Soon, when she was ready to settle down herself, she found a relatively cheap plot of land. It was large and imposing at first, but Tea settled in among the animals and trees in her home relatively easy. It was smooth sailing. Old habits die hard as they say, and so she began to play again. Her music would be lonely most nights, as she was the sole soul playing. It wasn't until a stranger heard the familiar tune and now, all those years later, their eyes locked with one another's once more and they can enjoy each others company once gain. Tea and Kero, playing themselves silly until the inevitable day comes when they must part ways again.
