A deep rumble was heard within the depths of the forest, it could be heard for miles, perhaps it even caused an earthquake, but none of that matters. What does is the creature that erupted from the ground, it's eyes glowing, a ring around it's head making it look like some sort of savior, or angel. The figure let out a roar, something which could have been a yawn, but was way too loud and ferocious. Its antler's were huge, It was humongous, black eyes with white iris's, the pattern of a forest on a sunny day on it's back, but it was mostly covered, by what? A huge sprout laid on it's back, something was awfully wrong with this figure, so I watched from afar. I might've ran when it erupted from the ground, but I was struck with awe, I should've been afraid of it, it's size and appearance was more then enough to take in. As I stood frozen to the ground it turned it's head to stare at me, I would've cried out, screamed, ran - but something about this creature, was so peaceful and elegant, as if It was trying to protect you. It stared at me for what felt like minutes, hours maybe even. But it was only a few seconds before the creature dipped it's head regally, and walked off, lazily I might add. I was facisnated for a moment, and followed it. Well, here is my research and studies, I hope you do enjoy.

the studies - behavior

Now, you might think me crazy when you read this, or hopefully do read this, i'm not sure what this creature is capable of, or if it will harm me.. But something in its posture, its behavior really makes me feel safe, I've spent the last week observing them, i'm not sure its name or sex, I have no right to name it, and all I've done is watch it like some sort of zoo animal, despite this it seem's to not be bothered by my presence, it seems it almost, enjoy it. Pardon my rambling, but this creature really is fascinating, It's behavior reminds me somewhat of a lion, regal, proud, elegant. It seem's to also think it's a king almost, the way they hold their head high, and the way they care about the forest. The way they admire the forest, the way they sing with the song birds.. After awhile, I can read them. But I mostly think it's because it want's me too, the exaggerated body posture, the way it makes noises as if it's trying to talk, or something. Anyways, as the days progressed I notice them becoming more attached in a way, it seems they're trying to tell me something, or communicate. They've gestured to a seed more than one, with a spiral pattern, quite unique. They put it on their antlers, some sort of plant stem holding it up, they are very protective of it, it seems.

A lot of time has passed, they actually let me walk beside them, sleep next to them, we encountered a wolf not long ago, the creature seemed to step in front of me, like a sort of protective nature, but the wolf merely observed us for a few seconds before heading along, I notice the creatures (even the hostile ones) seemed to regard him as a friend, they were scared of me at first but I'd like to think I've earned their trust. Scamander, as I now call them, has developed a friendship with me, we both enjoy each other, and Scamander is actually quite a lot of fun, and funny when they catches fish!! They knows how to do lots of things, but they prefers most to watch the forest grow. Now since my rambling is very unorganized, I put together a little 'chart' of his behavior, perhaps that will make you understand better?

- pretends im not there, but seems to also let me know they know im there
- seems warning, and very protective of the forest, making sure im not doing anything
to harm it



after awhile (at least a week or two)
- lets it's 'royal' manner drop and actually is quite clumsy
- lets out chuff's and noises that is it's main source of
communication
- lets me walk beside it
- actually quite funny, they are very funny and adorable
in the most weird way!
- lets me groom them once in awhile
- takes walks around forest, allows me to come with



after a month or a few
- tries to tell me their history - I tried to write most of it
down on a separate page, check it out!
- allows me to sleep by them, their fuzzy and soft, snores
sometimes, but it sounds like forest noises almost.
- lets me touch the forest on their back, it actually
has small animals and such, it reminds me of a small
fantasy forest, I also tried to draw it, give it a look, will
you?
- more open and actually more nosy then ever!
- lets his guard down sometimes - and acts more like a
puppy then anything!
- has birds that sit on his antlers and sing to him while
he walks or does practically any activity.

the studies - appearance

Now, over my course of staying with Scamander, i've noticed the change in their appearance, the way when it starts getting colder, their fur changes. Each pattern for the four seasons, its beautiful and astonishing, the kalon still has child-like awe and suprise when the fur starts changing and always gets excited when it happens.


summer


I find summer to be the most lively of colors, the way the ring catches the beautiful colors, I have to say, summer on them is truly beautiful, might I add also his forest goes through changes when he does, it's a beautiful transformation, and I might add, their favorite time is summer also, they enjoy the way their fur pops! During this time the kalon is more entergetic and such, more lively.

fall


Fall on them is quite beautiful, the leaves from their forest sheds on their back and sticks in the fur, not in a messy way, but kind of a perfect messy way. I find fall to be the pretty one, the way his fur fades and still manages to catch light within it. The kalon, during this season, tends to get lazier, and yet gets more regal and elegant, and lets his 'guard rise'.

winter


Winter, I have to admit, is my favorite, the way their fur captures it is truly beautiful, and I cannot describe to you how beautiful it is in person, I have to say the way the pattern of the 'snow and sunlight' is an amazing sight. The forest on they're back, as described further above, also goes through changes with them, during Winter, the snow falls on it's back, and glosses the fur, they don't seem to be bothered by the cold either, I wouldn't be too if I had all that fur! Winter is when Scamander seems to get very lazy, they sleep most of their time and really dont care about anything, except when the forest is in danger, mind you.

spring


During spring they seem a more darker shade of green, they seem very relaxed at this point, this seems their second favorite, and it's almost a close tie to their favorite, during spring Scamander seems to get less lazier and goes on more walks and such, this season is more of a personality change developing to prepare for summer.

the studies - history

This is the moment where he tried to tell me how he became, the story of why and how he erupted from the ground at that very moment. Scamander gestured to his seed, he told be to grab it, I did, he put his paw on mine and my eyes widened as a scene formed in them, I could tell I was no longer aware of my current surroundings, but now in a different time. There was an old woman, In her lap was kalons, purring asleep, now I had already knew the creature was a kalon, and I smiled lightly, however while the old witch grabbed a seed, I couldn't tell how, but the seed was enchanted, her kalons were asleep, and somehow I knew the seed was enchanted with a kalons soul, I gazed back at the kalon, who seemed teary-eyed at the sight of his creator, I watched silently as the old witch hobbled to her feet and went outside her house, the kalons were aware and watched from the window. The seed was buried far from the hut. Soon I felt like crying, the old woman sat in the chair, petting her kalon absent-minded while watching the forest, suddenly the woman's hand stopped stroking the kalons fur, and I let out a gasp. The color had faded from her eyes, and a light smile was plastered on her face, she had died planting the seed, hoping it would guard the forest forever. Scamander's eyes were closed the rest of the moment, it was unbearable to watch for them. Suddenly as if waking up from the dream, my eyes snapped open and the kalon watched me closely, yet sadly. I tried to comfort the poor thing, and it feel asleep in my lap, my hand trailing over its fur. It was then I decided that they might guard the forest, but I would guard them, they were innocent and I wanted nothing more then to protect it.

the studies - our relationship

Them and I, are very close. I'd like to think very close friends almost, I've gained their trust, and they already had my trust awhile ago. It's safe to say I love them, not in a romantic way, but in a caring way. Over the course of the year, I've found out things, most other's will never know. And perhaps one day, they'll find someone who they can last forever with, I know I have to leave soon, and this might be on of my last pages in my journal, but oh well, right? At least I can look this over and read about the memories I have created, for them, I dont know. As far as Im concerned the old woman whom had created them was awhile back.. Im not sure if they are immortal or not, I'd like to think so, but I also know, there's no way this is the first time they erupted from the earth, they haven't told me yet. All I know about our relationship, is we are very close, and I know im not going to be so happy when I leave..
