Jessa only wanted to live her life the way she wanted, but as the heir to
her family's business, it wasn't easy to break free. Especially when the
"family business" was a group of knights with a single goal - defend the
country from the demons.

As Jessa grew up, she turned out to be quite the spunky kalon. A scoop of
courage, a tablespoon of clumsiness (luckily, only outside of battle), and
a barrel of hotheadedness.
She is almost fully dependent on her intuition when it comes to decisions
and planning, no matter how ridiculous her idea may seem. In the end, it..
usually works out.

Otherwise, Jessa is light-hearted and full of smiles. She tries to brush
off any insecurities or negative emotions with her radiant demeanor. At
the end of the day, all she wants to do it kick back and relax. "I'm surf-
ing the interwebs, mother!" she would always call to her poor parent, who
was stuck with a child that had no intention of maintaining the stiff-
mannered individuals that made up the Jessamine family business.

----Detrius. A land of eternal ice and snow. Few villages scatter the land, but most are clustered by a run-down sea port. There isn't much diverse life present, outside of the kalons that reside there, some flora, and the fish that they eat. Food shipments come once a month from neighboring countries.
----However, not everything that walks in Detrius is living. For hundreds of years, demons have ravaged the land. No one knows what the demons are or where they came from, but it is known that the demons come in many forms - whether it be a terrifying monster, or the spitting image of your dead sister. The only way to kill the demons is by removing the limbs, but not everyone can fight against the supernatural strength. So, who can?

"We've got an influx of demons on the north wall," a male knight said into his two-way radio receiver. Jessa peek-
ed behind the door, listening.
"I'll come over with reinforcements," he added, heading towards the door. Jessa quickly tiptoed away and hid in
another room as he walked past.

"Let me help fight, mother!" Jessa pleaded, tugging on her mother's sleeve.
"You're too young, Jessa. You're not allowed to fight until you're at least sixteen," her mother chided, strapping
her sword to her coat and beginning to leave.

"Plea-" Jessa started, but the door slammed, her mother leaving without another word. Slumping to the ground,
Jessa bit her lip and frowned. "What good are my skills if I can't use them? My superiors all know I'm skilled
enough to help with the fighting. Why are you the only one I can't convince, mother?"

After sitting for a few more moments, Jessa slowly stood herself up. "No, there is something I can do."

Her hand was firmly gripped on her sword hilt in its scabbard as she headed outside. This is a bad idea. Go
back! a tiny voice echoed to her, but Jessa ignored it. "I'll show them! I'll make her proud," she shouted,
bursting through the heavy doorway and running out to the wall.

In the main area of Detrius, where Jessa and her family lives, a ten feet tall wall surrounded the town. The
knights handled any demons that happened to go over. However, demons didn't come to the south side often
because less citizens were populated around the south. Therefore, less enforcements were needed there.

As Jessa ran out to the side of the south wall, something seemed amiss. She didn't hear the sharp clashing of
swords, or any sounds at all.
"Um... hello?" she called, raising her voice into a shout. No response.

"Hm," Jessa said, before starting to climb up the wall with the help of a nearby ladder. As she looked down,
her eyes widened. Four knights were laying on the ground, all injured.
She hopped over the wall and landed in the snow next to one of them. "What happened?" she breathed, placing her
ear on the knight's chest. There was still a heartbeat, although faint.

Jessa dragged the knights to the side of the wall, sitting them up next to each other to build up body heat from
the chilling temperatures. Looking around, she could see no one to help her get them up the wall. Looks like
I'll have to take the underground hatch.
Jessa dragged them one by one, each a few feet before doing the same for the next one. When she reached the
underground hatch, she slid the knights in. As she was about to close the door over her head, a demon appeared
out of nowhere and clawed at her face.

"Aagh!" Using all the force she had, Jessa leaped out of the hatch and sliced at the demon, effectively defeating
it. Breathing heavily, she went back.

"Look! She found them!" a knight called, pointing at Jessa, who had returned with the knights.
As everyone greeted her and tended to the knights, her mother stood there, furious. "Follow me. Now!"

"What were you thinking? Did I not tell you that it wasn't safe out there?" her mother yelled.
"You almost killed yourself!" she added, roughly tapping Jessa's cut cheek.

"But mother, they were hurt, I had to help-" "You shouldn't have been out there in the first place!"

Jessa sniffled, clutching her scabbard. "If I leave, I can put everything behind me. This incident, the family
business.... you."
Her mother widened her eyes. "Jessa, wait-"
"It's Meredith to you. Don't act like we know each other."

Jessa ran away from her home. She only needed her sword.
I can take care of myself.
