          ┌───────────────┐

          you're just a silly girl!
          (plot:: 12 words:: 2,141 note::yay first story!)
          characters:: corrine, d'artagnan, musketeers

          └───────────────┘

          corrine temperence thomas was a do-it-yourself kind of girl. she lived in the back woods of paris france, mid 1600's with her twin brother, d'artagnan, mother, and father. they were a poor family, living in glasgow on a farm. besides the point of being undoubtable able to gain cash from jobs working in central paris, corrine and her brother prefer this way of living. being away from the city is nice for the both of them, and their father. corrine and d'artagnan's father was once the leader of the three great musketeers, but soon, age had snatched his ability to battle with his comrades and he soon found himself retiring to the back woods of paris. but that doesn't stop him from telling his great battle stories to corrine and d'artagnan every night before they went to bed.

          since his battling days, the thomas family changed their ways of living. they began to morph into a family of farmers. but corrine and d'artagnan's father knew that central paris would not be safe forever. the old king had passed away, and his young son had taken to the throne with his new wife. king louis and queen anne barely knew much about ruling, so the gave their second hand man and leader of the king's troops, the cardinal, a tremendous amount of power. the cardinal's guards would patrol the city streets, but they never could do better than what the three musketeers had once accomplished.

          the creeping fear of an attack had taken it's toll on all of the villagers of paris, even on the thomas family, so the former musketeer knew what he must do. continue on his knowledge onto his son. he started training the day of d'artagnan's fifth birthday, telling him the form and stance, how to hold himself, as well as a sword, properly. every day he would continue to show his son the ropes, and everyday he would remember how his own father had once taught him these same moves. now of course, corrine thought that her twin was learning this and not her was outrageous and utterly preposterous. why him and not her? what could he do that she couldn't?

          thank god that corrine was a determined and manipulative. she managed to get her twin to teach her everything their father taught him. so ever morning, d'artagnan would train, and then in the evenings, he would show his sister what he had learned a few hours prior. the method was extreamly effective, and the two were both easily some of the best sword fighters in glasgow. although corrine had one thing that d'artagnan didn't. the element of surprise. nobody in central paris nor in glasgow would expect a woman to have the capability to wield a swords and do actual damage. mostly because it was against the law.

          the moment the two thomas twins turned the age of twenty-one, their mother and father decided they were both prepared to head into central paris. corrine's father always knew d'artagnan wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a musketeer, and he only finally agreed to send corrine with him was that she pleaded with them, mentioning that she would "keep him in line so he wouldn't get into too much trouble."

          the thomas parents sent their two kids off to paris with one black and white mottle horse, named of buttercup if you were wondering, and a brown pouch full of golden coins known as crowns. fifteen of them was enough to get them food and shelter for a few months before the could find a job. the two were off, both quite jumpy as their hearts pumped adrenaline through their systems. they seemed to reach their destination in no time.

          "where to now?" corrine asked her brother as they tied up their horse, paying the stable boy before making their way down the cobblestone street. the young girl could tell that her twin was still cross about one rest stop that they had been too. it included a man, well, a group of men, who had insulted buttercup, calling her a cow and not a real horse. of course, d'artagnan was quite angry about this and challenged the man to a duel, which was a complete idiotic act on his part. her twin had drawn his sword but the man had a gun in his pocket. he shot at her brother, leaving him with a mere flesh wound, but still enough to draw blood. now the two of them were walking aimlessly around central paris, mainly looking for a place to stay and any possible job opportunities.

          d'artagnan opened his mouth to respond to his twin when he caught sight of a red feather on a tricorne hat. it was the man from before. before corrine could stop her revenge seeking twin, he was off, running towards the man.

          "d'artag- oh boy." she shouted before lowering her voice to a low mumble. she bunched up her green dress in her fists to free herself from tripping, running after her twin. he was shoving past many locals, quickly apologizing to them before continuing on his pursuit, not even turning to face those people. corrine on the other hand ran past a tad more considerately. instead of pushing people out of her way, she ran around them, keeping her eyes on her brother. finally, the first real action took place.

          d'artagnan ran smack into a man with long, wavy black hair, his face wrinkling in horror as his rum overflowed from it's cup and spilled onto his suit. corrine nearly shrieked as the man grasped her twin's arm, pulling him back.

          "idiotic boy! do you know who i am!?" the man snapped at him, pulling her twin's face close to his own. corrine managed to catch up and tried with her might to pull the two apart from each other, but it wasn't working in the slightest, the two men were much stronger than herself.

          "town drunk by the smell of you." corrine's twin seethed, freeing himself from the man's grip. the girl took a step back now, not wanting to be a huge part of this argument.

          "are you looking for a fight?" the man questioned, but it seemed more rhetorical, like a demand. corrine tried to motion to her brother that he shouldn't answer that, but he did anyway.

          "maybe i a-" d'artagnan started.

          "no sir! no he is not, i apologize for the inconvenience." corrine rushed, speaking over her aggravated twin. she began to push d'artagnan away from the man, hopping the man would just drop the subject.

          "cooper's yard, twelve o'clock." the man shouted before turning on his heel and storming off, probably to clean his suit from his rum.

          "great job bozo. not even an hour in and someone already hates us." corrine seethed at her brother, smacking him hard on the back of his head. her twin let out a soft yelp before going back to his rabid goose chase. corrine was doubting herself that she should actually go after him, but she took it upon herself to look after her twin, so that's what she was going to do.

          she managed to reach her brother just to hear him shout "cooper's yard, one o'clock!" to a large man in a cloth shop. she tightened her grip on her worn down dress and stormed after him, apologizing to the balding man, adding that he didn't have to attended his 'appointment.'

          again, d'artagnan received a smack on the back of his head as the two twins walked.

          "you're an idiot, you know that?" corrine said, her arms crossed tight across her chest as the two of them walked back to their horse, having lost the men from earlier. when they reached their beloved horse, they watched a man in a black suit, a cross dangling around his neck, place a piece of paper on the saddle of their horse. d'artagnan reached it first, reading it quickly. corrine started to stop him, but her twin called out to the man, asking what it was.

          "it's a citation." corrine hissed in his ear as the two walked over to the male, who had obviously heard her and nodded.

          "what's that?" the boy said and the man rolled his eyes.

          "it's a ticket. i can clearly see the smarter one out of the two of you," he said, his eyes flickering towards corrine, making her back straighten proudly, her head lifting. "before you ask why you got this ticket, because i know you will, it is for failure to remove you're horse's feces from the road."

          "buttercup took a dump on the street." corrine whispered in d'artagnan's ear as he crumpled up the ticket, tossing it on the ground.

          "cooper's yard, two o'clock." her twin snapped before turning on his heel and walking off, fixing the tricorn hat on his long brown hair. corrine wanted to scream and pull her hair out at her brother's stupid choices. she snappily apologized for her twin's actions before following behind him.

          ---

          corrine leaned against a nearby building, watching her brother pace back and forth, his shoes annoyingly clicking the cobblestone. the clock that was nearby clearly rang out twelve times. corrine continued to try and tell her brother that they were going to be no-shows, but he would have none of it. her eyes continued to scan around, silently praying they didn't show. but they did. and that wasn't the worst of it. the three men seemed to know each other. not just know, but corrine was starting to think they were all friends. her brother was in deep, deep trouble now. she didn't think she could fix this mess.

          she watched as the men introduced themselves. the first was athos, who still smelled slightly of rum. the second was porthos who clearly was wearing one of his new suits that he had purchased in the cloth store. the third was aramis who still had a cross around his neck. she knew that if one of them didn't kill her brother, the other two would. of course, she could easily step in, but in central paris it was just plain out wrong for a woman to fight or hold any sort of weapon. self defense or not. there was no excuse.

          athos was first. it was obvious that they were going with the sword way of dueling, and not like the last man with his gun. they drew their swords and placed them together. corrine wondered if she even wanted to watch this go down. her eyes scanned around as people around them stopped what they were doing to watch. people on balconies and at the shops around stopped to see what was going on.

          "it's sad that the famous musketeers have resorted to dueling a little kid in a city square." a voice sneered. corrine felt her heart stop cold. musketeers. these guys? unbelievable. one was an obvious town drunk, there was no way he was a musketeer at least. finally corrine turned towards the man who had spoken. he wore a dashing red suit on top of a large black steed. he hopped off, walking over to athos and d'artagnan, who lowered their swords.

          "town drunks not enough people to beat up athos?" the man continued as more men entered the plaza, all in the same blazing red suits. the man seemed to notice corrine, but she wished he hadn't. "what are we doing anyway? fighting for this lovely maiden's hand in marriage?" he said, walking over to her. corrine's eyes widened and she was slightly disgusted at the thought.

          "i think i can fight for my own hand in marriage, thank you very much." she snapped, taking a step towards the man. she noticed, while looking at his suit, that he had an incased sword at his hip. one that she was used to dueling with. the men in red suits all around let out soft chuckles at her statement.

          "oh please! you're just a silly girl!" the man said, laughing so deep and loud it made corrine's face go bright red. she reached out and wrapped her fingers around the handle of the sword, pulling it out of its scabbard and raising it towards the man's neck, her mouth in a straight, tight line. everything around went into a dead, cold silence.

          "i'm a musketeer who would enjoy some respect, seeming i do, in fact, have a higher placing then the cardinal's guards, and you wouldn't want to get in trouble with the king, now would you?" she snapped, taking closer steps towards the man, who was forced to take multiple steps back to keep the sword a safe distance away from his neck. "oh but, what do i know? i'm just a silly girl."

          a stake through the heart would kill anybody
          (plot:: 81 words:: 738 note::i watch too many cr
          ime shows
          ) characters:: samantha, carter

          └───────────────┘

          "a stake through the heart would kill anybody!" carter davenport yelled, slamming his hands down on the stainless steel table, inside of the interrogation room. across from the well-suited fbi agent, sat samantha mccoy. samantha watched the young male as he paced back and forth. she reached up, the handcuffs around her wrist allowing her to run her hand through her messy locks of golden brown hair. her honey eyes moved away from the federal agent to the wall where the one way window was. she knew there were people behind there. listening to her every word. watching her every move. even still, the twenty-two year old didn't feel threatened.

          "listen agent, and listen closely." she said, sitting up a little straighter, crossing her legs under the table. the agent's blue eyes swerved towards her faster than a bullet train, stopping his pace mid step. he lowered his foot and pivoted so his body was facing her. samantha knew she had his attention, as well as the people behind the window. "i didn't kill my father." she said simply before leaning back in her chair with a sly grin.

          agent carter nearly punched the wall out of frustration. the interrogation had been going on for more than an hour, and he was starting to get anxious. the murder of alexander mccoy would be public soon, and would create a storm. samantha's father was a running candidate for president who was recently murdered in his own home. by a stake. through the heart. sam didn't know why she was being questioned, she would have never murdered her father. samantha chose her father over her mother when they spilt and always would choose her father. she remembered when her father would show her eighty's bands and how she loved them all. how her father had gotten her the first car she ever wanted, which she still drives now. anybody who knew the mccoy's would know that samantha was the most unlikely person to murder her father.

          "then who did samantha? who did?" carter hissed, finally pulling the chair out from the other side of the metal table. he turned it around and sat on it, resting his arms on the back-now-front of the seat. his blue eye's searched the young adult's face. the room was starting to get cramped and stuffy and it was clear the both of them wanted to get out of the room.

          "how the hell am i supposed to know! the suspect was probably pissed off about something political. maybe a revenge factor too." the blonde hissed dryly before reaching for the glass of water. she then stopped herself. dna. that's the last thing she needed to give away. she knew just where the stake came from. the head board of her room. it had to have dna evidence on it and that was a way they were going to link her to the murder of her own father. samantha couldn't deny it though, the room was hot and sweaty and she needed a drink of water.

          "who would want revenge on your father?" carter said, his eyebrow cocking upwards. the blonde snorted and gave him a look that screamed "really?" she licked her dry lips and looked at her lap. the federal agent stood again and went back to pacing to and fro. samantha had finally had enough. she slammed her hands on the table, the handcuffs rattling and clinking.

          "you want a confession!? fine! i've been in this room for over two hours and you keep assuming i'm guilty. i've been cooperating, i haven't asked for a lawyer. i just want to go home!" the girl screamed, her eyes welling with tears. "you've been questioning me for over two hours about my father's, my best friend's, death. i just want to leave." she finished, not even bothering to wipe the tears that dripped down her cheeks. carter glanced at the glass worriedly before looking back at samantha.

          another man, a federal agent was samantha's guess, entered the room. he was a few years older then carter, but not that much. he sat down on the other side of the table, carter standing behind him. "we know you didn't murder your father. we'll take you home." and with that being said, the girl burst into tears. she was slowly accepting the fact that her father was dead, and the killer wasn't going to be found.
