Becoming A Ranger - 20th Katkin Entry

This is a story entry for the 20th katkin. Please don't post until I say it's okay to post!

Tigris landed the final blow on the beast dummy. It toppled over and fell to the ground. He placed his foot on the dummy victoriously and let his cape flow in the wind. “Good,” Tigris’ mentor said. “But you will need to put more of your strength and skill into this if you are going to master the art of taking down beasts!” Tigris sighed. He barely became a trainee, and his mentor is still expecting more of him, as if he was expecting Tigris to kick the dummy high into the sky and as far as Mewpiter (Katkins’ equivalent of Jupiter). “Anyways, katkins need to work together in order to survive, as you may know.” Tigris’ mentor continued. “That’s why our general is assigning us partners. We are to work together and understand what it is like to work with the others.” Tigris felt a pang of excitement. He would finally have someone to work with! Most of the katkins were very nice, and really cool! He thought eagerly of who he could be paired with. They continued training until night, on which that point all the energy was drained out of Tigris. He quickly fell asleep on his cot. The next day, Tigris woke up to a bright, sunny day, with a soft breeze coming by. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, and he realized with a jolt that the partners were being picked today. He checked the clock. 11:00 am?!! The meeting started at 11:20 am, and Tigris scrambled out of his cot and got ready. He quickly ran over to the meeting, panting. “What took you so long, Tigris?” one of the corps trainees asked. “Overslept,” Tigris grumbled. “I can’t blame ya, last day’s training session was tough.” One of the other corps trainees answered as Tigris trudged over to take a seat. He started talking to some of the corps trainees until Jayce Tahvin, the katkin that ALWAYS bragged about things she couldn’t do, showed up. Literally every katkin that Jayce bragged to, including Tigris, started sleeping in their seats, with Jayce arguing to someone that she could kill a hundred beasts than they could ever kill one beast. “SILENCE!!!” came the growl of the general. Every katkin shut up, including Jayce. “Now, we are going to all be assigned partners.” Interest rippled through the crowd. “Now the katkins I name in duos will be partners, I will begin naming…” Tigris’ ears pricked up as the general started calling names; Connor and David, Shirley and Cherry, Kenny and Aria… Then at last the general said “Tigris and…” Tigris couldn’t wait, even though it was a couple mili-seconds later. “..Jayce”. What?! Tigris and Jayce?! Work together?! But all Jayce did was brag! Did the general, in his right mind, expect Tigris, a proud katkin, to work with Jayce, a bragging nobody? Part of his mind told him this was a nightmare. Except it wasn’t. This was reality. “Pfft, like I got time for kits like you.” Jayce said. Tigris sighed. Tigris and Jayce as partners, here we come……
