Not so long ago, a merlon was born. He was the crown prince to the underwater kingdom that boarded the land where kalons lived, and the whole royal family, and really, all inhabitants of the kingdom, cheered and celebrated. For this royal family was much loved by all the mer, as they were kind and generous, and the kingdom flourished under their rule. Though there were some groups of merlons who disliked the years of peace and wished to war with kalons, most agreed with the King and his ways of ruling, and the system that they had to follow. The prince grew up surrounded by those who were kind and loving, and instead of growing up to be a prince who was arrogant and lived a wealthy life, he too, became kind and loving.

Now the prince had a cousin, who was younger by only three months. These two were like fish in a school. They were never seen without the other, and eventually their parents thought of them both as their sons, and they thought of each other like brothers. They swam around the palace, doing the usual princely things like looting from the kitchens and messing with the King. Their many misadventures only endeared them to the merlons of the kingdom, and allowed the mischievous pair to grow closer. The prince's favorite hobby is to collect interesting shaped shells and beads and fashion it into jewellery, which he happily gave to his parents, uncle and aunt, and to his cousin. Though not a fan of neck-laces and tail-laces, his cousin wore them anyway, as a show of support. In return the prince patiently sat with his cousin as he observed the animals of the sea, often sitting up to hours at the time watching fish dart around coral and interact with each other. They did many more besides, and can be often found racing the other merlons of the kingdom, hiding from the Queen, caring for the creatures of the ocean, or helping with various errands around the castle.



One an average day much like any other, disaster struck. The prince and his cousin were on their usual trip to the coral reefs, and then a group suddenly appeared before them, and attacked. There was chaos and the sounds of a fight, and a cry for help that fell unheard. They were too far away for the merlons to hear, and the cousin had dismissed the guards before they had set off, confident nothing would happen. The cousin managed to escape, if only for a second, and yelled as loud as he could as he was dragged back into the brawl. By chance, a young merlon heard, and immediately called for help.
By the time the guards arrived and captured the rogue merlons, the damage was done. The prince was dead, the cousin gravely injured, and the kingdom in uproar. The King send groups to hunt down and remove destroy all groups that were against him, for they were the planners of the attack, and did their horrible deed in hopes the kingdom would no longer be at peace.
The rogue group’s wish was granted. The years that followed were stressful, full of grief and dark thoughts. The cousin was made the heir, and given the necklace that proclaimed he was so. The merlons of the kingdom worked with less vigor, and the kingdom was no longer known as the Kingdom of Peace, no longer portrayed as cheerful and content. The King and Queen were constantly down, and the cousin, now crown prince, hated his role.



Years have passed since the death of the prince. The grief that hung over the kingdom has lifted, and the merlons started seeing a better future. There was nothing they could do now for the prince, and giving him a grand funeral was the most they could do. The King and Queen decided that the prince would not want them, nor the kingdom, to wallow in grief for him, and so worked with twice the energy of before, leading the example. The cousin kept all the neck- and tail-laces the prince has made for him, and wore them all the time, as a memento to the prince. He set himself a mission to be the best prince, then King, the kingdom ever had, to honor his friend and his brother.

Perhaps not all was lost, after all.

dominant color in his fur, fins and tail
was blue, and because the ocean's

Creature: Dolphin, as they are so similar
to merlons, in behavior and feelings,
and one of the best companions you
can ever have.
Food: Oysters and seaweed, not only
because it taste's good, but also
because it is really amusing trying
to open the oyster and fail
miserably or pull up seaweed so
strongly you're thrown backwards.

When you first meet him, Caspian seems like a very open and friendly merlon, one who is patient and can sit and listen to you happily for the whole day. That truly is his personality, but there's so much more to him past the first meeting, if you care to dive deeper...


Caspian is the type to stick by your side through thick and thin, highs and lows, and would not hesitate to give you most his family wealth if you truly needed it for good reason. However, he also expects loyalty back, and believes loyalty is the best way to rule a kingdom. For if a ruler is not loyal to their people, or if they are not loyal back, a kingdom is sure to fall into ruin and corruption. A merlon who is loyal to none is seen as horrifying through Caspian's eyes, and so he would not take disloyalty kindly. Loyalty is also a kind of true commitment for him, and by being loyal it shows you really are prepared to do everything, and shows you care.


Growing up listening to arguments and struggles in court and the politics of the underwater world, and from observing merlons interact with each other, Caspian learned how to read merlons, and the signs that tell if they are lying or being untrustworthy. He enjoys observing many things, from turtles to merlons, and often is alert to the world around him. A self-declared expert at reading behavior, Caspian uses this skill to better understand what merlons wanted from him, and how he could help them, whether it's to remove any struggles they're going through or just be a listening ear.


Trustworthiness may seem close to loyalty, for they are both about being devoted to someone, enough to keep their secrets and follow them where they go. But to Caspian they are two very different things. He believes that to be loyal, or to be a leader, you need to be someone who can also be trusted, and he strives to be someone who you could talk to and have reassurance that what was said would stay between you two. Because if you are not trustworthy, you're essentially useless, a merlon who is good for nothing.



Caspian believes that an heir who does not actually try to help his people, or to put any effort in maintaining the peace and stability of his land, should not be heir. The royalty and the ruler should be there to serve the people, and make sure there was no discontent or anger among them. He gives it his all in everything he does, and makes sure he is pleased with the result, so he would not have any regrets later on, or wishes on how he should have done better. If trying his best is still not satisfactory, then he would go over and beyond to reach the best results that benefit everyone.


Caspian wants to be an heir who truly cares for his merlons, and be one who takes time to listen to each one and gently help them. He loves nurturing sea creatures and helping in general, and no matter how busy he is or how small the problem he would find time to help you and make sure everything was all right by the end of the day. He wants to be known for kindness and openness, for being a prince who does not seem like a typical prince.

When Caspian is not helping around in the castle, or assisting merlons in any issues, you can often find him messing around with the kalons on land, or working away creating something new.


Caspian has many small hobbies, but the hobby he enjoys most is just simply observing fishes and sea animals. He doesn't mind staying still for hours on end, watching the fishes endlessly dart around coral and chase each other around their home. The scene is different every time, even if it is the same stretch of coral, and that's what entertains him. He would sometimes observe the merlons in his kingdom too, but it feels intrusive and strange, so he stopped.
Another hobby of his, taken from his cousin, Pacific, was finding interesting shells. However, instead of making them into jewellery, like his cousin did, he just stacked them away, more like a keepsake than anything else. It felt like he was doing it for his cousin, so that wherever he was, he would always have a pile of shells, ready to make into jewellery.


Caspian is always making something if he had spare time, whether small or big. All the objects have one purpose though - to help something or someone. He loves to invent things, and take things apart to see how they work. He doesn't really follow a plan when it comes to constructing, which can result in haphazard results, but everyone seems to find that funny, and entertainment is one way to help someone.


Being part of the royal family, and with the peace in their underwater world, there was not much need for destructive powers. He has three, and they're mainly used to help him communicate and befriend the kalons on land. Caspian can give normal kalons the ability to breathe underwater for two hours, allowing them to visit his home and explore the ocean with him. Caspian also has the gift of tongues, allowing him to understand and speak any language, though he was pretty sure it was useless since kalons and merlons spoke pretty much the same language. Caspian can also change his tail into a pair of legs, but it doesn't last long and his walking ability were about as good as a newborn. Issues, issues.

Caspian looked out at the kingdom below, the necklace resting heavily on his chest. It reminded him that he was not the actual prince, that he was the one who dismissed the guards, and that he was the one who caused the death of the actual prince…

Brooding, Caspian frowned, wishing for a future that did not result in this. He had joked often about being the prince, about how he could help his cousin rule the kingdom…But now that he was the prince, it felt like he had no purpose. What was the point, without Pacific here?

“Still brooding, prince?” A voice called to him, but Caspian did not reply. He wasn’t bothered to, and the merlon annoyed him. How could she be so cheerful when Pacific has recently died? Does she not care about the prince? The merlon emerged from behind the entrance of the balcony, one much plainer looking than him, without any glowing markings that showed they were part of the royal family. She still looked eye-catching though, with her white fur and red tail. “Would Prince Pacific want this? It’s been years now, if he was here I know he’ll be unhappy at how the kingdom is.”

“Don’t talk like you know him very well!” He snapped back, his annoyance increasing. He felt like saying more but bit back his words. He may not wish to be prince, but he still had to behave like one. “Look, just…don’t bother me, I just feel really stressed and annoyed, and I didn’t want this, not at all. Go bother someone else, Mediterranean.”

Eddie looked at him, before laughing. “You only say my name when you’re actually serious, and I would normally listen, but I’m serious too. Grieving is right, it is understandable, and it is natural. Nevertheless, when you don’t do anything for years, that’s taking it too far. This is Pacific’s kingdom, Cass. This is your kingdom too. You can’t just abandon it like this.”

“I order you as prince to leave my presence.” Caspian said flatly, now really unable to stand her presence. He thought they were all good friends, but it seems like she actually didn’t care about Pacific, not enough to recover so quickly from his death.

“Sorry, but you know that makes me more stubborn.” Eddie said, grinning. “You know what, let’s go outside. I think being stuck inside with all the gloom makes life worse. Come on!” She grabbed his paw and dragged him towards the door, and Caspian followed reluctantly. He knew he couldn’t brood for as long as he liked, as he had responsibilities, but though he would do it he’ll drag his tail over there before work is done. He just wasn’t in the mood. “Look at the sea! It’s so blue today, and the sky must be clear.” Eddie pointed out, nudging his arm.

Caspian looked at the scenery outside the castle, watching the merlons who worked slowly outside. “They’re still mourning, like you.” She said, also watching them. “But they can’t slack off, like you do, because their lives depend on it. While you can mope around the castle, they still have to work, even if they don’t want to, because if they don’t they would not earn treasure, and not having treasure would mean starvation. They’re setting a better example than you, I have to say.” He didn’t say anything, and simply observed the merlons, thinking.

“I know it sucks to lose such a great prince. We all feel it. Prince Pacific really cared for everyone, and he never slacked off. You were the same too. We all were, really, since we all want to be like him. But now that he’s gone, and the whole royal family had decided to pull back and stay in their castle, the merlons have no one to look up to. This kingdom won’t make the next century, if it keeps going like this. We need someone to continue the example set by Prince Pacific.” Eddie said quietly, closing her eyes. “There’s no point wishing him back, Caspian. I know that better than anyone.” Caspian glanced at her as she said that. She never talked about her parent’s death, and he had never dared to ask. Now also was not the time, he could tell.

“I can’t continue his example, since though everyone knows me, my position is only a common merlon. I may be friends with the royal family, but I am not part of it.” Eddie looked at Caspian as she continued. “We need someone, who everyone knows and adores, and who’s in the royal family…”

“I know what you’re getting at, no need to give hints so strongly.” Caspian sighed, smiling a bit. “But…thanks Eddie, for this mini pep talk. I just…I don’t know, I wasn’t bothered to do anything. But I guess that’s not really honouring his memory, right?” He laughed lightly, feeling like this was his first ever since the attack. “He set such a high standard, I don’t think I’ll ever make it. But I’ll try, and this time I’ll try with all my heart.” He patted Eddie’s shoulder gratefully. He needed that kind of talk, and she always seem to know what to say. “Well, I better start then, or else I’ll never catch up with all the work I need to do.”
