Spyros quickly grabbed a spot and sat down, her small ghost device sitting safely in her bag. She checked it and huffed, as there weren't any on the way, or here. She grabbed a textbook and put it on the desk. Maalic arrived a little late and grabbed the last spot, next to a girl who had her textbook already laid out. He read the label and quickly got out the right one, putting it quietly on his desk. The girl glared at him and he smiled simply,
"I'm Maalic." Spyros rolled her eyes and tuned her head as he said his name. She didn't want to be rude so she replied,
"Spyros, nice to meet you. But next time pay attention to the class room." Maalic huffed,
"I'm sorry I've never been in a public school before." He remarked, looking around at everyone around him. He watched as the teacher came in, Ms. Hawsings if he wasn't mistaken. She began to talk, and Maalic sucked it all in as if he was a vacuum, he knew this was better than what he used to get. After class was over Maalic stood up and walked over to Spyros and smiled. Spyros sighed,
"I've been here all my life, kindergarten up to now." as if she one he was going to ask her,
"Where are you from?" she knew, he said it earlier, but she tried to fire up a conversation, hoping it would go better. Maalic nodded,
"I grew up in town, in a mansion, I know it sounds awesome but I hate it.. never getting to talk anyone. I mean, talking to another person your age is common for you right?" he kept walking.
A mansion? At least he doesn't have an old, run down house. she thought, and then looked to her side,
"So.. do you have any.. friends?" she asked quietly, not wanting to hurt his feelings. Maalic sighed and shook his head,
"No.. not real ones.. but sometimes I pretend a stuffed animal is my friend..." he winced and looked down at his feet silently. Spyros nodded quietly, then she looked down,
"Do you want to be my friend?" she asked quietly and then turned as her class came closer. Maalic's smile turned into a grin and he nodded, that was all he could do, his first real friend. He sighed happily and continued off to his next class.
-- That Summer --
"C'mon Maalic!" Spyros yelled back to the the kalon behind her. Maalic ran as fast as he could, but stumbled almost all the way,
"Wait up!" He took a few breaths as she stopped. Spyros rolled her eyes and stared at him,
"Those ghosts can't catch themselves you know." Maalic frowned,
"Well technically, parano--" Spyros interrupted him as fast as she could,
"Whatever, just try to keep up." She continued down the alley and then stopped,
"Here." She noted. Then grabbed her gear and placed it down. Maalic caught up and sat down on the cold ground with Spyros,
"What are we doing?" Spyros grinned,
"Looking for ghosts." Maalic frowned,
"Here?" In this dark creepy-- oh.." he looked down. Spyros got out her camera and searched around, looking for any spiritual reaction. She sighed and put it down, the air blowing in her face. Maalic looked around, then grabbed her camera, pointing it towards the shining moon. Spyros almost yelled, but stopped herself as Maalic pointed. Then she smiled, looking around at the camera, then to the small shining blob on the screen. She jumped excitedly. Then it disappeared. Her happiness washed away the tiredness in her body, and she looked directly at the moon.
"Maalic, you're the best friend ever."███████████████████████████████████████████
