conrad's guide to dealing with the un-dealable; dnp

note to reader/self; rubykittu granted me permission to post my story for an entry before the end of the day. thank you to them! <3

Curious eyes dart about as you sit on the corner of the street, hunched over with your chin
resting in the palm of your hand. Shifting your arms and removing your head from your hands,
you reclined and watched the busy streets bustling with cars and people. The rain was just
starting to come down; small droplets were rolling down your face, replicating the feeling of
whenever you were crying, yet providing a certain sense of comfort.

As if fate had smiled upon your bored figure, the pitter-patter of paws sounded just off to your
right. On instinct your head tilted, and a green, four legged figure came into view. A messenger
bag slung over its shoulder, the supposed plumerian trudged through the light rain with a thin
book held within its jaws. Your curiosity peaked, but it seemed that he spotted you before you
could say anything.

“Having a bad day?” he inquires in a lazy tone, ears perking from beneath his head full of hair.
Looking away in slight embarrassment you offered a sheepish smile, telling him that you had just
had a very awkward encounter with a friend and their significant other; the latter of whom which
you didn’t get along with. He nodded to assure that he heard your small problem, before ambling
over and crouching beside your hunched form. “Know what? Have this…. It’s a little book I made
on how to handle other people; built especially from experience. The four main personality types
are enclosed within. Maybe it’ll help you in future encounters.”

Without another word he stands at full height and walks off, disappearing around the bend of the
corner. Making a small noise of amazement you look back down at the slim book, reading the title.
'Conrad’s Guide to Dealing with the Four Personality Types'. Flipping the page, you allowed your
eyes to scan the directory on the first page. Four different, unusual words had been bolded; but
thanks to Conrad, the definition were listed below.

book directory
chap 1 - the sanguine
chap 2 - the choleric
chap 3 - the melancholic
chap 4 - the phlegmatic

1. sanguine - People with this temperament tend to be lively, sociable, carefree, talkative, and
pleasure-seeking. They may be warm-hearted and optimistic. They can make new friends easily,
are imaginative and artistic, and often have many ideas.

2. choleric - People with this temperament tend to be egocentric and extroverted. They may be
excitable, impulsive, and restless, with reserves of aggression, energy, and/or passion, and try to
instill that in others. In other words, they may make great leaders, or can be a bit cranky.

3. melancholic - People with this temperament may appear serious, introverted, cautious or even
suspicious. They can become preoccupied with the tragedy and cruelty in the world and are susceptible
to depression and moodiness.

4. phlegmatic - People with this temperament may be inward and private, thoughtful, reasonable,
calm, patient, caring, and tolerant. They tend to have a rich inner life, seek a quiet, peaceful
atmosphere, and be content with themselves.

the sanguine

Postby Xhat » Sun Jul 12, 2015 12:31 pm

Plumerian used; esther, owned by chamomile.
Tips to dealing with the sanguine: When dealing with this personality type, try not to appear down or out. They enjoy when others around them are upbeat, and enjoy the happy company. Its best that you don’t try to trick them either; some sanguine are rather gullible, and take it to heart when they find you were fibbing. Talk about something they love and they will love you. Try to stay away from subjects found as awkward. Located below are my own experiences of encountering a sanguine plumerian, told in third person for easier reading.

Lazy eyes scanning the park, a plumerian had curled up upon a bench. Feet tucked beneath him,
Conrad let out a content sigh and was about to close his eyes until a crash sounded from his left
side. Startled by the sudden noise he tumbled off the bench, alert and fumbling to get a foothold
on something. “Oh, sorry!” A different voice called out from where the noise had originated, and
a bright orange plumerian bumbled into view. “I was chasing my ferret, Comet. He got away on me,
and stole one of the pretty flowers I was about to pick, too!” She chirped in a cheery voice, extending
a paw forward to help Conrad to his feet. “I’m Esther!”

“Conrad.” The male answered, voice still a bit shaky from the scare. With the help of Esther he shook
the dirt particles from his fur, and began to rid his hair of leaves. “So you’re… picking flowers?” Conrad
inquired, hopping back up on the bench; joined by the newfound acquaintance. Esther answered with a
very enthusiastic nod, “Oh yeah! Pretty much all the flowers in the park are awesome, and I use them to
make my terrariums.”

The two continued to talk for a while, only straying from the topic of terrariums once or twice; that was,
until Conrad decided it was a great idea to bring up the topic of flower care. “Don’t the flowers die
sometimes? Isn’t it hard to take care of so many?” With Conrad’s question came a slight change in Esther’s
appearance; she adopted a light frown and downcast eyes, which filled with a hint of sadness. “I try to care
for all o’ them as I can, but I’m always going out to get healthy flowers. That’s partly why I’m here at the
park…”

A little startled by her change, Conrad reached over and patted Esther on the shoulder. “Alright then,” he
awkwardly began, putting on his biggest smile in hopes of cheering her up. “How about I help you with picking
those flowers?”

“Ha ha, you look funny, Conrad! That big smile doesn’t suit you… I like your lazy one better!”
“H-hey!”
“Sorry~!”

the choleric

Postby Xhat » Sun Jul 12, 2015 1:25 pm

Plumerian used; vera, owned by dandyLIONscare.
Tips to dealing with the choleric: First things first, be sure to follow orders. Despite some of their seemingly happy attitudes – although, some aren’t too joyful – they tend to get very cranky or aggressive when orders are disobeyed. When they act in the heat of the moment, act with them. Even if they try to ward you away, this type does enjoy a small group of company. Main thing here; don’t make them angry if you don’t need to. This type can get aggressive, and you may get hurt in the process. Their bite is equal to their bark. Located below are my own experiences of encountering a chloric plumerian, told in third person for easier reading.

In the heat of the moment, Conrad had been dragged into a Tai-chi class. He had no clue who or what
had dragged him to the place, but he really wasn’t enjoying this experience. The female at the front
was barking out orders, despite the fact that the class was purely for fun; and none attending would be
participating in actual competition.

But when he broke form to rest, he didn’t expect the instructor to clue in on him. “Hey, you! Get back
in form! This is a class for Tai-chi, not lazing about!” she growled, pointing over at Conrad furiously.
“What are you waiting for? Get back on your paws!” With a miniscule eye-roll he followed instructions,
a tad offended by her harsh use of orders and certain authority. Stretching out his limbs, Conrad's thoughts
began to circulate; in which he ended up muttering to himself. “She’s probably a choleric type? Likes the
leadership, but is a bit harsh…”

After getting some strange looks, and receiving some harsh whispers, the class came to an end. The plumerians
piled out in single file, half of them not bothering to even bid farewell to the instructor. Conrad, however,
decided to put his psychology to use and cautiously approached the instructor.

Of course, she was the first to spot him. “So you were the one slacking off?” she grumbled, turning to face him
with a glare. “I don’t like when people slack off in my class.” Conrad attempted at cracking a smile, “You’ve
got that straight.” Although, the instructor did not take him lightly. In a slight fit of anger and certain grumpiness
she stomped forward, coming face-to-face with the psychologist. “You think this is all fun and games? Get out of
my sight.”

And Conrad sensed the discord in her voice. He did not move away from his spot, nor did he lean forward. Adopting
a calm posture he stared the little grump down. “Alright. But I’ll be informing you that I’ll be taking this class again.”

“No.”
“Yes, I’ll even pay double. It’ll help out with the studio…”

“… Alright. I’m Vera, you better remember it.”
“Conrad.”

the melancholic

Postby Xhat » Sun Jul 12, 2015 1:53 pm

Plumerian used; peytin, owned by cryogenic.
Tips to dealing with the melancholic: When interacting with this type, try to speak in a soft voice. Most melancholic do not like loud voices, and can be startled as such. They also enjoy a great deal of quiet, and prefer to sit in silence rather than banter back and forth. Tidbits of conversation may be appreciated, but try to keep the chatter at a low. Comforting words and encouragement are useful as well, but should not be used over excessively, because you may come off as irritating. Whatever you do, never bring up a depressing subject; it can send them into a death spiral... figuratively, of course. Located below are my own experiences of encountering a melancholic plumerian, told in third person for easier reading.

A small smile graced Conrad’s muzzle as he flipped the page of a novel. The book was turning out to be
quite suspenseful, and had its twists and turns; something that he enjoyed. What made it even better,
was that his good friend Peytin was sitting across from him. Both of them had been through a lot, from
Conrad’s schooling to Peytin’s poor sense of self-worth. In the end, they stuck together and came out as
better plumerians.

Their surroundings were that of a calm coffee shop, with the smell of fresh java drifting through the air.
Yet everything was interrupted when the door opened with a slam, the bells above jingling in quite the
frenzy. A group of six or seven plumerian entered, all chattering and making a racket. Peytin himself was
stirred by the noise, shifting nervously and lifting his head from where it had been staring at his computer
screen.

Noticing his friend’s discomfort, Conrad attempted to offer him a slight smile. “Don’t worry, Pey. They won’t
come near us. If they do, I’ll give ‘em a what for!” Peytin only chuckled, temporarily distracted from the
sudden bustle in their surroundings. “You would never do that, Conrad. You’re way too lazy to fight; you
can’t even lift your own paw against someone!”

Conrad, to speak for himself, was pleased. With another few encouraging words and exaggerated stories the
two went back to coffee, enjoying themselves fully; Peytin especially did when the horde of loud plumerians
had left the shop.

“I can still fight them-”
“Conrad no.”

the phlegmatic

Postby Xhat » Sun Jul 12, 2015 2:13 pm

Plumerian used; kylix, owned by dandyLIONscare.
Tips to dealing with the phlegmatic: Much like the melancholic, the phlegmatic enjoy peace and quiet, along with having some space to themselves. Although, as a phlegmatic myself, sometimes they become so relaxed that motivation can be lost to all else except things that are of interest. Chill and lax, they are the most comfortable out of the types, besides the sanguine. Beware that they may hold little to no bias, and sometimes they don’t quite have a filter for emotions and the like. Located below are my own experiences of encountering a melancholic plumerian, told in third person for easier reading.

As most visits between the two were, Kylix and Conrad were lounging around amidst the sea of pillows within
the latter’s home. Idle chat was often tossed between the two, although they were never topics of importance…
unless they were about their occupations. Even then, such topics were light-hearted and never quite taken very
seriously.

And eventually, they came to the topic of appearances. Kylix craned her neck to look over at Conrad, giving him
the once over; without shame. “You’re hair’s way too messy. People might think a rat lives in there, maybe a bird.”
She taunted him in a light manner, only with him to come back with his own little objections.

“Really? Learn to actually braid your hair, Kylix. One braid? You think my hair’s messy, but look in a mirror! I bet
that you would find your picture next to the word ‘tussled’ in the dictionary.” Conrad snickered, rolling over onto
his back and staring at the ceiling.

“Yeah, Mr. I-never-smile-correctly. Learn to actually smile. You can’t use that lazy smile all the time.”
“So? I think it’s really charming!”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Hmph. My hair is still better than yours.”
“Keep dreaming~!”

The chatter ended abruptly, with the two relaxed plumerians having a stare-down. Without much warning, they
burst out into a chorus of laughter; eyes crinkling up and a few snorts escaping here and there. Eventually it faded,
with Kylix and Conrad both staring blankly at the ceiling.

“I still think you’re hairs messy, Conrad.”
“Oi, don’t start that up again!”

and that concludes that. I hope you enjoyed reading!
