☆★▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬★☆ "Simply remind me not to come next time," Vega sighed. "I'll let them know when I feel like sitting through who has a better haircut." He had just come from the meeting's light oak doors and was walking down the cloudy path speckled with violet stars from the sky. These discussions every five years burdened his mind to a near intolerable point.
"Come on," was the reply from a timid canine-fledgling. He had pale green and blue fur and bright white wings that sat atop his back and his mystical tail trailed behind him. "I think it's important to check up on how the citizens are doing."
"It's always the same, Chickadee. Soon enough the Cennet Celestial Council needs to stop having these meetings because the citizens are growing into an age of technology." Vega continued on the path with only occasional glances at his companion behind him. "The Cennet Quartarchy hardly blesses anyone with magic anymore, so eventually it will die out and be replaced with inventions. I can't say I blame them though, the Quartarchy has been inactive and magic is unpredictable."
"Well maybe it's just 'cause not a lot have magic and the others are afraid of it. It's basic thinking! Besides, I like checking up on the people and taking care of them."
"It's no wonder you're Estelle of the Stars' son. You're infatuated with the civilians just like her. Are they really that fascinating?"
Chickadee shrugged and pulled a light-hearted smile across his face. "Well, they're just like us! Just, you know, minus the whole immortal and magically powered thing. Every representative of the Council used to be one (except Candy and I, but whatever)."
"Oh joy, more egocentric babbling buffoons."
"No no! That's not what I meant!" With wings whipped out and ready, the avian canine sped up in front of his starry friend and stopped him. "They're nice! Really! I watch them all the time, like, in the guarding sense. That's why they call me the 'Kid of the Heavens' you know."
"I was sure it was because of your mother being Estelle of the Stars and your father being Loni of the Sky," intervened Jared nearby. He wasn't the friendliest dog to be greeted by with his black eyes and yellow pupils accompanied with curled, midnight horns, but his charming smile and kempt golden haircut got him votes for presence. Otherwise, the blue dog was a tricky and sly fellow though not an entirely wicked one. "If that's what you're telling everyone though, by all means, go right ahead."
"Oh, Jared," cried Chickadee at the sight of a friend. "Tell Vega about the people. Convince him they're nice."
"Why?" a devilish smile inched it's way on Jared's face. "They're good, but they can be bad too. 'Probably have as much free agency as us."
"Have you met them?" Vega inquired.
"Heck no, I hardly have the time."
"Then how can you judge them? Shouldn't we know who we're representing in the Council?"
"As a representative of the Sun, I get told to do my job regardless (and others wonder why we're called 'irresponsible'). I would've expected that you being a representative of the Stars would have already looked down on the people below. Chick has and he's only a representative of the Sky."
"Just because we used to be denizens like the ones we take care of doesn't mean we know how their lives work. We were all chosen to be representatives for the Council at young ages and haven't seen the world in over a hundred years. Does that seem fair to you at all?"
"I thought you already covered that, Vega," Jared wrapped his arm around the starry dog and pulled him in close. "Didn't I overhear you talking about how their tech was all they needed now days? What was that about just letting magic pass away in extinction? I rather like the idea of being one of the few people with magic left."
"Yeah, but," Chickadee moved in closer in the conversation, "Most just move their power into items to be passed down and some is still genetically inherited but it's weak. We're talking about pure magic here. Wait, doesn't having magic make them more inclined to fear us?"
"Poor poor Chick," Jared shrugged. "Always worrying about the people. It doesn't matter what we do because they'll continue their lives no matter what and everyone knows that they just manage themselves now. The Council has grown to be a placebo just like our stagnant Quartarchy."
"Well yeah but they still need us-"
"When have you last seen your parents, Chick? They don't exactly show up anymore. And what about the last plea for help to the Council? I don't see people lining up for advice like they used to do. We're like myths now. Living legends. Who cares about us? We just have those meetings every five years to pretend were doing something worthwhile."
"Maybe they're just struggling in faith! They'll come back!" Chickadee was getting worked up and started to fly above Jared for an intimidating view.
"I hear a lot of speculation," Vega pulled Chickadee down and pushed aside Jared. "Do any of you have proof that the people think these things?"
Silence."That's what I thought. Thinking about what the people are dependent on fatigues me. I'd much rather just go and find out. I'm not going to pretend I fight for lives in those meetings anymore because I'm going to go down and live with them. If you two are also real representatives of the people, then you will do the same."
"That's a lot of talk you have there," Jared smirked. "How do you know you're the same kind of capable they are?"
"I don't, that's why I'm going to go and find out. You could always come with and see for your selves, of course."
"Are you asking for help? I never thought you'd be the kind to stoop down to me for assistance."
"Whether or not you're there won't affect my survival, but it would definitely prove the worth of these people to you," and he left on that note, marching towards the goal he felt was so just and worthy.
"You think he's not going to do well in the real world, huh?" Chickadee turned to Jared.
"Vega's a strong guy," Jared chuckled. "I just get the feeling he won't like what he sees."
