CHAPTER ONE

As the light filtered into the tiny she-kit's den, she let out a yawn. Clouded hopped on her feet, it was time to start the day! As she covered her moss nest with leaves, the sound of other cats hit her ears. Perking up, she peeked out of her den. A few kits were playing right outside! She didn't know about the clan, but she was pretty sure the kits shouldn't be here. She stepped out, deciding it would be simply good nature to help the kits get back to their home. When stepping out, she realized they weren't much smaller than her. "Hello there," she mewed, "What are you doing here?" The kits froze, and the crimson one, which looked like the leader of the little gang, stepped up. "W-we didn't know this was rogue territory....We're sorry, don't eat us!" Clouded cocked her head, rogue territory? she thought, a bit confused. "No, I wont eat you. Just get out of here, okay?" The crimson kit nodded, and the gang of kits disappeared. Clouded walked back into her den, thinking about the kits. They believed she was some sort of thing...a rogue. Clouded sighed, laying down. She needed some rest after the encounter with the kits.

PART TWO

Hailstar was just about to call the clan to a meeting, when the kits came barreling into camp. "Rogue, in, territory." Autumnkit breathed, her tiny chest heaving. Hailstar's eyes widened, and she dismissed the kit, saying "Thank you fir this knowledge, I will have Quailfeather send out a patrol." And that's exactly what she did. "Quailfeather?" she called, being answered by the handsome grey tom, "Yes, Hailstar?" he asked. "Can you send out a patrol to...." she realized she'd never asked Autumnkit where she saw the rogue. "Autumnkit, where did you see the rogue?" she called to the crimson she-kit. "Right by the border, the one with the stream." she answered. Hailstar turned back to Quailfeather "Send a patrol there," she said. "Also, I will accompany you." she added after a bit of thought. Quailfeather nodded, and turned to the clearing, "Dayclaw, Jayflight, and Heronpaw. There has been sights of a rogue by the border. Would you all mind going on a patrol with Hailstar to check it out?" The cats nodded, and Hailstorm noticed the way Jayflight smiled at Dayclaw. The blessing of more kits may be soon to come. This gave Hailstar a small smile. The clan had never had so many kits, and yet Dappledfeather was still expecting Zebraheart's kits. Starclan had been kind to the clan this leafbare.

PART THREE

Hailstar made her way along with the patrol. A slight breeze ruffled her blond fur, as she made her way towards the stream border. Her head turned back towards Dayclaw, who was deep in conversation with Jayflight. Heronpaw was giving his mentor a glare, then turned towards Hailstar, "Sometimes I think I'll never get any training when Dayclaw's around!" he said, confirming Hailstar's suspicions. There was definitely something going on between Dayclaw and Jayflight. Hailstar smiled at the small apprentice, who was always eager to learn. "Well then, I hope you get some training. I'm thinking about having Jayflight give you your assessment soon." she said, watching his eyes widen. He looked like he was about to say something, when they caught a scent. Definitely one of another cat. Hailstar took the lead, hushing the rest of the patrol with a glare. They didn't know if the cat they were approaching was friendly or not. Hailstar waited, until out of a small tree log came a kit. A kit! Autumnkit had gotten the whole clan worried over a kit! Hailstar sighed, knowing she shouldn't have given all of her trust to the crimson she-kit. Kits exaggerated! She sighed, approaching the kit. "Hello?" she said, and the kit turned to her, an alarmed expression on her face. "Don't worry." Hailstar said, "We won't hurt you. We just want to know why you're here."

PART FOUR

Clouded's eyes widened as the blond she-cat began to speak. "W-what do you mean?" she asked, "I live here." The she-cat looked concerned, "This is FleetClan territory," she explained, "You can't live here." "Oh..." Clouded mumbled "But I don't know where else to live..." The blond she-cat gave Clouded a pitiful glance, and then turned to the white cat. "I will take this kit back to camp, Jayflight, lead the patrol around the borders just in case." she said to the cat, which was now classified as Jayflight. Clouded walked up to the she-cat, trying to be optimistic. "My name's Clouded." she said. The she-cat looked at her, and smiled, "My name is Hailstar." she replied. Hailstar started walking, and Clouded followed obediently. Once Hailstar got to camp, she stepped on this weird rock, and said; "All cat's old enough to hunt and swim gather!" Suddenly, out of all the dens, cats seemed to spill out. "We have a visitor today. Everybody, meet Clouded."

CHAPTER TWO

The sky was filled with ash, too thick to breath. Blood pooled onto the once green forest floor. Out of the mist appears two green eyes 'the sky, is clouded' they whisper

Splashjump woke up with a start, chest heaving. She looked outside. The sun was right above her in the sky. Did I really sleep that long?! she thought, a bit concerned. Outside, Hailstar seemed to have called a clan meeting. She was introducing a small white kit as Clouded. The kit turn, giving Splashjump a glance at her eyes. Those eyes...They were too familiar. She'd seen them before, she just couldn't place it. The memory seemed to slip away like the wind. She shrugged, and perked her ears up as Hailstar began to speak once again, "The apprentices, Reedpaw, and Heronpaw, will be assessing tomorrow at sunhigh. I wish you both luck." Splashpaw couldn't hold back a smile. Heronpaw was her brother's son. She had no idea why Oneear, a tough unbreakable warrior, fell in love with Honeyfur, who was as sweet as her name. Her brother could be unpredictable at times.

PART TWO

The next day, Heronpaw wasn't up before sunrise. He was up before dawn! Heronpaw paced his den, wanting the hours to tic by like seconds. "Heronpaw....Stop...." Reedpaw groaned. "I-I well....I guess I'm excited! I mean, I will be the first of my siblings to make it to warriorhood!" he said. His sister, Adderpaw, had been held back because when he excelled at training, she was impossibly clumsy. "C'mon....Foxpaw, isn't a warrior yet, and it might be strange to point this out, but neither is Turtlepaw." Turtlepaw was Reedpaw's brother, but he'd never be a warrior! "Turtlepaw? Turtlepaw!? You're just making me desperate!" Heronpaw whined. After what seemed forever, Jayflight stepped into the room. "Heronpaw, come with me. Reedpaw, Spottedheart will be here anytime soon. Thank you for being patient." Reedpaw spat something that Heronpaw couldn't quite place, but it sounded an awful lot like patient! Heronpaw sighed, following his mentor. This was his day, Reedpaw's attitude wouldn't change the fact, that he could be a warrior.

PART THREE

Clouded woke up, yawning. She realized she wasn't in her den, and her eyes widened. Then the memories of the day before came to her, and she let out a sigh. She was in a clan now....She stood up, and walked to Hailstar's den. Hailstar told her that's where she'd go if she needed anything. She stepped in, saying, "Hailstar? Did I wake you up?" Hailstar's blond head popped out. "Yes?" she asked. "Well...everyone here has such...strange names. What's that about?" Clouded asked, her head cocked to the side. "Ah, yes, we have a system here. A kit under six moons shall have the suffix of kit. Once over six moons, there shall be an apprentice ceremony, and the suffix will be changed to paw. When done with training, the leader will choose a final suffix, which you will keep forever, unless you become leader. Then you will visit the moon place, and be given nine lives. Only then, will your suffix be changed to star." she said, finishing. "I'm about seven moons." Clouded said, "If I am going to be part of this clan, I would like to start training. And my suffix would be.....paw?" Hailstar smiled. "That is correct. You are a quick learner. Very well, your ceremony will be today at moonhigh." Clouded nodded, satisfied.

PART FOUR

Heronpaw stalked the small bird, watching it's every movement. He leapt up, his strong back legs pushing him. For a moment he was flying, invincible. But then, gravity took it's toll, and he came crashing down. But he took the bird with him, killing it with one blow and watching it fall below him. He hit the ground, letting out a little "uff" He smiled at the dead bird, picking it up. The feathers tickled his nose and he let out a sneeze. He laughed at himself, and buried the bird next to the rabbit and mouse he's caught. Heronpaw was satisfied, but he felt he needed to catch more. So, he was walking along, when a scent caught on his nose. The bird he had been named for, was close by. Herons had been known to kill the occasional unfortunate kit. If he could catch one, he'd be legendary! He caught the trail, following it to it's nest. There, right in front of him, was the biggest beast of a bird he'd ever seen. It didn't seem to notice him yet, as he got in the hunting crouch. Just like with the small crow, he leapt up, claws reaching for the bird's soft feathery spine. He struck, but sadly got a different reaction. The bird fought back. It tore at his eyes, making him blind. He felt himself falling, so he grabbed the bird in his claws. If he was going down, the heron was going with him. he hit the ground with full force, and her a squawk from the bird. Then, the warm heartbeat he had felt in the bird's heart stopped. It was dead. He heard his mentor sighing, as Jayflight approached him. "Heronpaw, that was the most stupid thing I've ever seen anyone do in my life." Heronpaw, blinded with pain, did not speak. Maybe he was just too ashamed. He heard Jayflight sigh once again. "You may have caught the bird, but in a way, it caught you. You passed your assessments, for the exceptional catch of one rabbit, a mouse, and a small crow. But this Heronpaw.....This was the stupidest act of bravery I've ever seen." Heronpaw let out a little sigh of relief at the notion of his passing, but his ears burned hot in embarrassment. He felt Jayflight take him by the scruff, and carry him back to camp. He heard Reedpaw's footsteps behind him, obviously carrying his prey and Heronpaw's. Heronpaw hoped the heron was in his maw somewhere, it was his best catch. He felt himself being carried, ready for Splashjump's rage.

CHAPTER THREE

Splashjump her the commotion outside her den, and made her way towards it. She found a dead heron, and a somewhat alive Heronpaw. Sighing, she picked up the heavy apprentice by his scruff, and carried him inside. "Were you really that stupid?" she mumbled, not really needing an answer. She covered the young cat's eye with moss, and paste. "You should be fine," she said, "It probably hurts worse than it is." To this comment, Heronpaw gave a painful nod. "Okay." Splashjump said, helping Heronpaw to his feet, "Off you go. You wouldn't want to miss your own ceremony." She saw Turtlepaw, her own apprentice, smile wide. He and Heronpaw had been best friends as kits, but Turtlepaw was much more quiet as an apprentice. Heronpaw never changed a bit. Once Heronpaw had left, Splashjump turned to Turtlepaw "We best get going, Hailstar is going to have the ceremony soon." Sure enough, Hailstar's voice suddenly echoed over the camp. "All cat's old enough to hunt and swim gather!" Splashjump walked out, and found her place next to Turtlepaw. "Today, we have a new apprentice, and two new warriors." A new apprentice! Splashjump thought, It can't be that rogue kit, can it? Sure enough, the next name Hailstar called sent a wave of confusion over the whole camp. "Clouded," she said, "Will you please step up here?" the young she-kit stepped up onto the rock, her head facing down. It was as if she knew she wasn't welcome here. "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and train as an apprentice?" she asked. Cloud mumbled a quick "I do", and turned her head back to Hailstar. "Then I call my ancestors to look upon this young apprentice as she trains, and hope she excels until warriorhood. Clouded, shall now and until warriorhood, be known as Cloudedpaw." There was an uneasy silence, but Heronpaw was the first to start cheering, "Cloudedpaw! Cloudedpaw!" Soon followed by the rest of the clan. Hailstar dismissed Cloudedpaw, telling her that her mentor would be Quailfeather. The deputy's face was unreadable, so Splashjump had no idea how he felt about it. "Reedpaw, would you step up here please?" Hailstar asked. The bulky white tom came up, his eyes shining. "Do you promise to protect the clan with your life, until you join the ranks of StarClan?" Reedpaw boomed a clear "I do!" Hailstar nodded, "Then from now on, you shall be known as Reedclaw. StarClan honors you for your strength and bravery, and welcomes you as a full member of the clan." In no time at all, the clan cheered "Reedclaw! Reedclaw!" Now it was Heronpaw's turn. The soon to be warrior's face was expressionless, as he climbed up the rock to Hailstar. "Do you promise to protect the clan with your life, until you join the ranks of Starclan?" "I do." Heronpaw said. Splashjump had never seen him so calm. "Then from now on, you shall be known as Heronfrost. Starclan honors your wit and courage, and welcomes you as a full member of the clan."

PART TWO

Cloudedpaw found herself walking to Heronfrost, the young warrior tom. Heronfrost turned to her, and smiled, "Congratulations Cloudedpaw!" he said. "W-why did you cheer?" Cloudedpaw asked. "What do you mean?" Heronfrost said, looking completely lost. "Everyone was quiet....I don't think they wanted me here, but you....you cheered. You were the first one, anyway. Everyone else followed. But still....you had the courage to start." Heronfrost smiled fondly at Cloudedpaw, his eyes twinkling "I thought, if no one would cheer for her, then what's the point in others cheering for me?" Cloudedpaw nodded gratefully, "Thank you..." she whispered, walking away. Heronfrost was something else. Heronfrost was hope.
