the hero - nicholas hall

outward traits

    name
      nicholas hall
    gender
      male
    basic appearance
Nihcolas is a strong young man with dusty brown hair and kind brown eyes. He has fair skin with few blemishes, save from a few scars here and there. He is muscular, and embodies the idea of strength, both mental and physical. His smile is soft and playful, but he can also brood for days on end, in which he seems dark and enigmatic. Nicholas is not flashy or bright, but more plain, and more about what lies within than what appears on the outside.
    family / realtionships
Nicholas had a mother, once. Well, you can't not have a mother, but it is still strange for him to think that he could have maybe had someone to call "mom." Sadly, Nicholas never knew his mother, but he had a rather...strange relationship with his father. Being the king and all, Finn's father was never around to provide a basis of relationship with his son, and left the poor boy to sort of fend for himself. Despite all of this, Nicholas longed to be his father. He longed to become the man he always imagined his father to be. That was before he learned what his father actually was: a murderer and a tyrant. But, somehow, Nicholas could never really tear himself away from his father's influence. He grew up without a cornerstone, and must keep his foot planted in the hole so as to stop the collapse of his roughly-hewn castle.

Nicholas finds this missing piece in Sorrel, a girl he was sent to exploit, then kill. Once a solo player, Nicholas finds his sense of team and compatibility with this girl, and they act as foils to each other. Nicholas finds purpose in his desire to protect Sorrel, and it is that that truly makes him a hero. Nicholas will never be a hero, in the purest sense of the word. He is more of an antihero, but a hero all the same. His story and the relationships found within it are simply tragic, and find him in a battle of morals.
    history
Nicholas is the illegitimate son of an ice elemental and a shadow knight of Elsaíra. He was hidden for the first few years of his life until his father took the throne, where he was treated as a prince. His mother died when he was young at the hands of his father, but at the time, Nicholas didn't know that, and went on seeing the best in his father. However, he always knew that something was off in the way the kingdom functioned. People weren't always supposed to be scared, right?

Nevertheless, Nicholas continued on in a daily routine, performing his father's dirty work and leading the armies as a sort of loner. It wasn't until a mission leading him to Sorrel Turner opened his eyes that he started to actually see the flaws in the system. He learned to work together and became willing to sacrifice himself for the safety of others.
    main personality
Nicholas is, upon first impression, guarded and impersonal. He is hard to get close to, but he is truly an honorable man, and caring towards those he comes to love. He always tries to do what he thinks is right, even if what he thinks is right turns out to be wrong. He knows nothing else than to act in the interest of the people. He does come off as arrogant, however, and can easily be seen as proud and rather haughty.

It isn't until well into his story that he learns that being alone isn't always the best thing. He learns that friendship is better than victory and how listening to the struggles of another can aid him in his own tribulations.
    likes
Nicholas finds piece in the time of dusk and the following twilight, and also in rain that plasters his hair to his face. He prefers to be cool rather than hot, and silence is his favorite sound. He likes water, but doesn't like swimming, and he, strangely enough, gets along quite well with children. Nicholas likes to fight, and would rather act than first think of the consequences. He likes swordplay and running through the woods.
    dislikes
Nicholas dislikes monsters and anything that thinks they're better than he is. He doesn't like summer, and would rather die of hypothermia than heat stroke. He doesn't like our noise unless it comes from battle, and he hates people who whine and complain constantly. He doesn't like talking to people (because he isn't very good at it), and can be almost rude. Nicholas hates being forced to cooperate, and believes that everything he does should be of his own free will.

the ruler - abram "noctus" hall

Postby qwill. » Sun Feb 08, 2015 4:13 pm

Image

outward traits

    name
      abram "noctus" hall
    gender
      male
    basic appearance
Abram is a tall, sallow man with thin features and dark brown hair. He was handsome as a youth, but age has not been kind to him. In his consumption of power, he has grown lanky and spindly, relying more on wit than on physical prowess. His skin is gaunt and his eyes are hooded by the exhaustion of adhering to a dark magic. Needless to say, Nicholas gets his boyish charm from his mother's side of the family. Abram was a powerful knight in his time, but as he was drawn into dark sorcery, he lost his strength and turned to unconventional methods for success. As it stands now, Noctus, as he no longer goes by the name of Abram, is a corpse allowed to walk. He is, in his entirety, a ghost of his former self.
    family / realtionships
Abram's father was a knight killed in battle with Caitor, and his mother was a noblewoman living in Elsaíra. He didn't know her well, and lost his father before he could barely walk. Abram was raised mostly by the court physician, and trained by the captain of the royal guard as a knight. It was with these people that he created bonds with, morse so than his biological parents. When the physician died of age, and the captain retired, Abram already had his life set out for him: he was to be a knight for Elsaíra, and more importantly, a member of Princess Moira's guard.

When Abram met Moira, it was love at first sight. She was intelligent and kind: the perfect princess. He was a handsome young man with an eye towards political power. They had chemistry, certainly, but Moira knew that her country was more important than her own life, and broke poor Abram's heart. One of Abram's flaws is his inability to let events such as these slide. He was crushed, and began to brood on the situation, finally deserting his knight duties for a life as a commoner. But he could never forget Moira.

Abram moved to the northern territories, into the far reaches of Elsaíra, and finally to the border of Glossa, where he met Aija, an ice elemental and member of the Glossan court. He courted her, against all laws of course, and together they conceived a pair of twins, Ingrid and Nicholas. Abram was not the man he was in his youth. He was a terrible father, but poor Nicholas had no one else to look up to. With Abram's mind slowly becoming consumed with the thought of the country and the woman he had left behind, he began to neglect his family, making secret trips back to Elsaíra.

When Abram rose to power in Elsaíra, he took his wife and children with him, but only because he needed a blood heir to his throne. In a fit of rage one night, Abram killed Aija. The ice elementals took Ingrid away, seeing her as an asset to their society, but they left Nicholas, saying he would follow down the path of Abram, or Noctus, as they called him. The Dark One.
    history
Abram Hall was born in Elsaíra to a knight and a lesser known noblewoman. His father died on the front lines, and his mother passed after slipping in and out of depression. He grew up within the court of Elsaíra and formed a strong bond with the princess as childhood playmates. As he rose to power as a knight, Abram grew to love Princess Moira, and did anything to protect and defend her. He also, however, was drawn into the sciences and alchemy. He would spend his time not spent in battle in the library, studying books on forms of brewery and magic. He became just as adept with this skill as he was with a sword, which worried Moira.

When the two finally split, Abram invested his whole self into learning the way of magic. Perhaps he could come back and win Moira with his power. Perhaps he just wanted to avenge his now broken soul. There can be no way of knowing what ran through his mind on those dark nights alone.

As Abram met Aija, he perfected his skill in a certain form of magic: shadowmancy. Abram had learned to control and manipulate shadows and dark energy, the most feared type of magic across the lands. He used this to take over Elsaíra and murder Moira and her husband, King Tobias. It became what is now known to the Elsaírans as "The Glorious Rebellion." The sad thing is, though, that this is all due to Abram's advertising and manipulation of history, for the event was neither glorious, or a rebellion. Only one man achieved his wish.
    main personality
Abram, or Noctus as he likes to be known, is a cruel man who takes no mercy and no excuses. He rejoices in watching people writhe in pain and agony, and laughs at the toils of the townspeople. Noctus is a living, breathing force of darkness that has no emotional attachment to anything, not even his own son. He used to feel pain and sorrow, but now his heart is cold, frozen over by years of holding a grudge and years of guilt from killing the only two women he had ever even remotely loved. I suppose that's why he never killed Nicholas. The boy reminded Abram of himself.
    likes
Noctus takes pleasure in torture an misery, and, of course, the dark. He's a real villain, and he thirsts for knowledge, even now that's he's a master shadowmancer. He likes women, but not as much anymore, preferring to spend all of his time locked up in his room, searching for avenues in which to inspire suffering.
    dislikes
Noctus hates wanton happiness. He hates the idea that there may be more ways to go about things than just his. He hates being wrong, and he'll kill anyone who beats him at anything, be it cards or walking to the castle hall. He hates not knowing something, and he hates when people disobey his orders.

the rebel - sorrel turner

Postby qwill. » Sun Feb 08, 2015 6:33 pm

outward traits

    name
      sorrel turner
    gender
      female
    basic appearance
Sorrel is not the tallest, but she also isn't petit. She has long hair that is so dark brown, it appears nearly black. Her eyes are a pretty brown, but they are not a normal brown. They are more a chestnut color, and sometimes glow a soft red in the light. But this isn't threatening; if anything, it's more intriguing. She has pale skin and a soft smile, but the smile does not often show. She is lithe, and built for running and jumping rather than for combat. Despite this, she is excellent with a small knife. Sorrel is all about speed and agility, and, often enough, thievery.
    family / realtionships
Sorrel never knew her father, or her mother. Her earliest memories consist of growing up in her village, raised by all of the people. She would go to the baker for food, to the schoolteacher for an education, and to the town square for playmates. Everyone knew Sorrel, and everyone cared for Sorrel. Because of this, in her youth, she was a bubbly young child, always good for a laugh.

When her village was destroyed, Sorrel was the only survivor. She knew not why, and she didn't understand how this could possible happen. She traveled, alone for a while, finding that she needed to act as a petty thief in order to maintain a living. She pretended to befriend people, but in the end, she was just a loner.

It wasn't until she met Nicholas that she found that there was more to life than stealing. He told her of wonderful things, and how, one day, they would take back the kingdom. Sadly, she believed him.
