When the wars began, nobody was surprised. We knew it'd happen eventually. But the results were far beyond what anybody could have seen. Whole societies crumbled due to economic collapses from lack of resources to help fund themselves during the war. Even some countries up and vanished almost overnight. A global nuclear threat was announced and everything plunged into a chaotic mess. Eventually, bad turned to worse, and everybody had to fend for themselves. No government to look to, no officials to keep charge of things, it was a hell zone.

Nowadays, nearly a hundred years afterward, everybody either keeps to themselves or is a member of one of the many groups that now exist. The biggest threats we face are the wild and crazed wildlife, contamination areas from the nuclear blasts used in the wars, and any bandits, mutants, or thieves that may reside in an area. At least, until the recent society of the Blind Company started appearing. Nobody knows exactly where this group came from or how long they've been here. Most notable by their "reverse robin hood" methods where they take from the poor and give to the wealthy anything and everything they can manage to scavenge.

After an incident that left a town in ruins, a group decide to journey across the countryside in hopes to stop this group and undo the damage they have caused. To bring justice to the land of Solum. Along the way, they find that their foe is far more powerful than they had anticipated. They face a number of challenges along the way but the question still lies. Will they achieve their goal? Or will they be defeated?

Places to know

Solum

Described as a sandy wasteland, Solum is the place to get your tan on as well as be met with a number of difficulties other than radiation from the sun. Bandits, thieves, and mutants love to call this place home as it's secluded away from the other three continents; Eversio, Astros, and Callahaugh. Solum is common for it's dust devils and harsh winds. It's very uncommon for it to rain in this region, though not impossible.

Wickhills
A small town composed of people from various other locations. A number of the residence were once former nomads before settling in the almost wasteland that is Solum. Mutants who wish to be apart of a society are more likely to find some acceptance here. However, there are a few people in Wickhills who look down upon mutants that enter the town. Wickhills relies on trading goods with the neighboring town of Voidville to help prosper the town as well as hunting. The town hall is the most notable thing about Wickhills as it serves as not just a jail and a meeting place but also a makeshift church for a number of religions and a school. It is adorned with a steeple that towers above the town. A rusty old clock looks out over the town. The thing has never worked so it's pointless to try to get the correct time with it. Around the town hall is a cluster of various types of homes, from shanty wooden houses to salvaged old cars from the pre-war era that people have managed to adapt into living spaces.

Hell's Gate
Located in the center of Solum, Hell's gate is no luxury cruise. Packed with deadly wildlife, dangerous outlaws, and other various creatures worthy of a no entry warning sign. Hell's Gate is a favorite for local superstitions and other scary myths, most notably notorious for the myth of "Old Nan's Revenge". This location has no notable town in it but you'd most likely find a few campsites. Who inhabits them is anybody's guess. It's probably best not to investigate these sites, no matter how appetizing the ham they're cooking smells.

Devil's Fork
Near the entrance of Hell's Gate, Devil's Fork is more of a passage way for travelers than a land to call home. It got its name for being shaped like a trident. It surrounds half of the outskirts of Hell's Gate, forming a giant crescent shape around Hell's Gates border. Similar to Hell's Gate, this place also has several myths surrounding it. It's believed that a portal to the Underworld is hidden here but those who were curious enough to go looking for it haven't returned yet. We should probably get some new interns... it's not uncommon to find gnarly piles of bones littered across the grounds, especially the region closest to Hell's Gate. How creepy.

Isolone
On the border of the frozen tundra of Eversio, Isolone is the only place in Solum to ever see snow. This particular area seems to be more immune to dust devil occurrences making it one of the more desirable places to live after Wickhills or Abandale. It's not recommended to live here, though, if your not a fan of cold weather. Homes here consist of woods and furs. The furs help to keep insulation in the buildings to better keep things warm. Not to mention, fur also looks nice as curtains.

Abandale
A major city within Solum. It could be considered Solum's "Capital". Abandale is a bustling city that houses most of Solum's population. It's definitely an oddball in terms of how it's laid out. Abandale is segregated by social class, with the rich and famous toward the center and poorest towards the outer 'rings' of the city. The nobles, rich, famous, healers and priests, and other aristocratic beings reside towards the center ring. Bakers, smiths, and other shops are found in the next ring. Outside of that you can find the taverns, inns, etc. The final ring consist of farmers and anybody else not fitting into the other rings. Be warned on your next trip to Abandale, thieves are ruthless here and will target anybody.

Wither Falls
Only miles from Wickhills, Wither Falls is the main source to get water or to swim when the days are particularly sweltering. It's a nice place to relax, even if for a moment, after a hard day of work. Wither Falls consists of a number of tiny lakes and ponds with a bigger one in the center. Exotic plant and animal life thrive here. A true wonder to see in the midst of a desert, it has the nickname of the "Mirage"

The Boons
The majority of Solum. The Boons consist of the areas between the towns and other locations. Not much is found here other than the common mutants and bandits and their dwellings. How boring, right?

Voidville
The sister city to Wickhills, Voidville is one of the leaders in trading goods. Not as big or known as Abandale but not as tiny as Wickhills, Voidville is an average sized town. Not many know this but Voidville is known for it's secret black market run by the Blind Company. Voidville is, compared to Wickhills, much more prosperous and people tend to be more happier and easygoing here.

Who to Know

Vex
One of Wickhills' loyal guards, Vex is outgoing and a social butterfly. Nobody says it and she herself doesn't think so but she's the leader of the group. She's a quick thinker, a skilled fighter, and has a thing for explosives. Vex was born and raised in Wickhills unlike the other members of the group. She is proud of her town, no matter how hillbilly it may seem to others. She can be loud and stubborn but is a good soul. Growing up most of her life as an orphan, Vex had to learn how to take care of herself. Her mother was killed by a bandit and her father went missing when she was six. She's not one to hold a grudge but it's not recommended to be on her bad side. She's courageous and adaptable.

Bones
A former bandit, Bones came to Wickhills with no name nor memory of most of her past. She has always wondered what her past was like but with no known relatives or anything who knew about her, it's been a bit tough to get information. Once she had joined Wickhills after being caught trying to pickpocket one of the guards in the outskirts of town, she had been given the name Bones due to the mask she always wears. Bones is a rather evasive and wary being. She's one of the towns hunters as it's the only thing she's decent at. Before coming to Wickhills, Bones was infamous for raiding campsites for valuables and supplies but has now renounced her previously bad ways and aims to be a better person. Even if sometimes, her bandit tendencies tend to kick in every now and then. She is currently in a relationship with Saber.

Saber
Like Bones, Saber was a former bandit as well. Except, she was apart of a gang who had thrown her out of their base when after an operation where she was blamed for ratting out their plans despite being a loyal member of the gang. When Saber was kicked out, she lived on her own until she came across Wickhills. After being spotted and apprehended by a patrol, she was offered a place in Wickhills. At first she was generally confused on the generosity of the offer. She accepted and became the towns tanner, working with the animal furs that came in and making sure they're of top quality for trading. Saber is hardheaded and spontaneous, eager to work, and loves crappy horror stories. She's currently in a relationship with Bones.

Grace & Chance
The weird and slightly creepy identical twins. They both have relatively the same personality; silent, mysterious, and have a habit of lingering around the shadows. Neither talk much or at all. Grace has said a few words but it's believed that Chance is a mute. They usually communicate by sign language. It's also believed that they have a special link and can read each others emotions and thoughts. Though neither will prove these rumors to be true or false. Despite being very creepy and appearing almost suddenly at times, Grace and Chance enjoy helping others. They both have a talent for healing so they help around the medical building whenever possible. These two are very shady when it comes to their past. Neither will speak about it. If confronted about it, they will get angry and avoid you for some time.

Snout
The youngest of the group, being barely thirteen years old. Snout is a rambunctious, fun-loving, care free kid. He loves games and playing pranks on the group. He's one of the few mutants that reside in Wickhills. He got his name from the way his nose is formed, similar to that of a pig. He also has only three fingers on both hands instead of five. Snout is considered on of the lucky mutants as there are worse deformities that could have happened to him. He looks up to Vex as a role model and an older sister and especially love pulling pranks on the twins. He can be somewhat sensitive and naive at times, making it very easy to trick him into things. Snout came to Wickhills when he was baby along with his mother. His father is unknown but, as far as he knows from his mother, he's been dead since before he was born. He is the only one in the group that still attends school.

Bucks
Bucks is the overly protective, fatherly figure of the group. He's smart, cunning, and, like Vex, always has a plan. His family is the richest in the town and his father is the mayor. He's a spoiled rich kid that loves dusty old pre-war era objects. He's even started a small collection of the knick-knacks he's found around the town that appears to be around that time period. He's the oldest of three children, the other two being his sisters Sakari and Alma. He's the heir to his fathers fortune and his fathers position as mayor. However, he has no interest in politics and dreams of being an adventurer and exploring far off lands. He also has an interest in astrology. He's also known for his groan inducing puns. Snout is the only one that finds them funny at all, though. He's had a crush on Grace for a few years but has never had the guts to approach her about it. To be honest, he's somewhat intimidated by her silent, creepy nature.

Nex
The antagonist of our little expedition here. Nex is one of the main generals of the Blind Company and is a very influential person in the secret society. Toward his underlings, he's a superior and ruthless guy. However, the truth is he has no fighting history and the only thing he has to work with is the sheer numbers of people he controls to do his tasks. Once that's taken away, you have a power-hungry lunatic who's a glutton for money. He thinks he's tough and can take an army himself but, in truth, that's impossible for him. He's a delusional mastermind of evil who has to high expectations for himself. His goal is to one day become the sole leader of the Blind Company and even has plans for world domination. Sure, he may seem like he'd be an easy foe but, being a main general of the society, he knows exactly how to strategize around impending obstacles.

{ Welcome to Wickhills }

Postby Relamune » Mon Jan 05, 2015 1:54 pm

Vex held her breath, standing as still as she possibly could. What was that noise? she thought as she scanned the blackness.

It was near midnight, no moon in sight, when the noises started up. How could she even describe them? They sounded like the devil laughing. Vex had never heard the likes of this sound. It was like a cruel and morbid twist between a hyena's cackling and a growl of a lion. Each time the noise echoed through the darkness, Vex felt a cold chill down her back.

She was in the center of Wickhills. Except, there was nobody here and the town looked as if it were decaying like it had been deserted for years.. The shanty buildings seemed to loom over her and she felt as if she were being boxed in. Her breathing began to pick up. Then she ran. At least, she tried to. She didn't get very far before something grabbed her ankle and she went tumbling to the ground.

That forsaken laughter seemed like it had gotten louder. Vex covered her ears and shook her head, "Stop! Shut up!" she yelled over and over.

Then, almost suddenly, everything was quiet and she felt warmth. Taking ragged breaths, she slowly opened her eyes.

    What?

She was in her bed now, sweating and shaking from her nightmare. But it had felt so real... Vex decided to let it go as just a lucid dream and not worry herself over it. It wasn't long before she had changed out of her sleeping clothes and into her day clothes. Heading out the door to her small one roomed hovel, she took a deep breath of the morning air. Crisp and dusty, a sign that the cold days will soon be here.

"Vex!" came the voice of Snout as she made her way toward the center of town.

Vex stopped and looked around confused, not seeing the rambunctious kid in sight. It was almost out of nowhere he appeared beside her. Vex leaped back, startled.

"ohmyjesus Snout! Where did you even-?" Vex started.

"Ha! Finally got you!" Snout said ecstatically, laughing and marching around her in circles. "I'v been trailing you since you left your house! I bet you didn't even notice me, huh?"

Vex took deep breaths to calm her heart. It felt like it was about to burst from her chest. To be honest, no she hadn't noticed him. But she wasn't really paying much attention to her surroundings anyways. Her mind kept drifting to that stupid dream...

"Okay, fine. You got me, I didn't notice you. Maybe your finally getting your guard skills down, eh?" Vex replied.

Snout always talked about how he wanted to be a guard for Wickhills when he grows up, just like Vex is. He always thought highly of her and Vex always got flustered when he did. Vex would even help him practice his battle stances and attacking on days where she didn't have guard duty and he didn't have school.

The others in the group would only smile and nod. Truth be told, Snout's future didn't look to bright. Despite him being one of the few mutants with non-severe deformities, he's still prone to having health problems later in life. The others don't think he'll make it past 18 years, but Vex would say differently. "He has the spirit of a warrior" she would say.

"I hope so! I'll be one step closer to being on the Guard!" Snout said cheerfully.

A bell rung in the distance, a signal that school was about to be in session. Snout sighed loudly in annoyance and Vex couldn't stifle a giggle. "I don't want to go..." Snout said quietly, but slowly making his way in the direction of the schoolhouse.

Vex couldn't stifle back a giggle and tousled his hair. She waved goodbye and continued on her way. She didn't realize how much time she had spent talking to Snout and realized she was almost late herself. Having to run to make it on time, she entered a wooden building wheezing and out of breath.

The building was her 'workplace', in a sense. She usually helped with patrols and things like that so she never spent huge amounts of time in the building. This place was simply known as "The Hive" to her and her co-workers. It was inside joke, mostly. To the town it had no official name but everyone knew what it was.

"You finally made it." Shazza said as she entered the main room. Scattered papers and books littered the ground and a few others were bustling around. Faded and tattered tapestries covered the walls, a large worn blue run adorned the floor under the mess of papers, a number of bookcases lines the walls, and a big desk was placed in the center of the room.

"Sorry... Snout... Wasn't paying attention.. time.." She managed to wheeze out between breaths.

"No matter, you know your duties for the day. Just get them done." Shazza waved her away with a flick of his hand, not looking up from the desk.

She nodded and left through the back door to meet up with the patrol. Hopefully, they haven't left yet...
