Welcome to my form for Cairo, Makoatl Nursery Batch #2.

All coding, quotes, art and writing is done by myself, please do not use any of it (including concepts) without asking for my permission first. Thank you!

This topic will be Cairo's form split into many parts. There will be relationships and basic information about him, as well as an in depth disposition section (complete with personality, quirks, likes and dislikes), what his future holds for him and stories involving him.

Plans:

I plan on doing quite a lot with Cairo
if I win him. First of all, I would be drawing
and writing about him very often, whether
private or public. Second of all, I would be
(hopefully) roleplaying him with his family
and other Makos when I have free time.

pretty much constantly, as I do with all of
my characters.

Why I want him:

I want Cairo because I simply love him, and I connect to him very well.

When I first saw him in the nursery I was overwhelmed by his gorgeous looks, and I wanted him very badly.
Out of hope, I went through the pages of the topic, and to my surprise he was indeed up for adoption. I was
beyond shocked, but I knew that I had to go for him.

Once I started working on his form, I began to fall even more in love with Cairo. I began to want to make
him one of my characters even more than I initially realized. At every turn, I was coming up with another
idea for his form, something else that I hadn't thought of before. Before I knew it, I'd already come up with
his personality traits, quirks and his relationships with his parents. From there, things only became more fun
as I worked on his form. I started writing more in depth about his quirks and personality, and I even started
to write some quick short stories about him and come up with future plans for him.

Overall, I've just fallen completely head over heels for this little fella, and nothing would make me happier
than to call him my first makoatl. <3

Cairo’s voice is a bit deeper and gravelly than
normal for someone his age. As he gets older, his
voice will get even deeper and more gravelly.

Sexuality:

Heterosexual, aromantic

Currently, Cairo gives absolutely no
thought to any sort of romance. As he gets
older, he will continue not to think about
romance much, and he will have very little
attraction towards anyone. He will be mostly
unconcerned with romantic issues, and likely
won’t date anyone, either due to being
oblivious or not caring, despite being highly
sought after for his charismatic and reserved
(often deemed ‘mysterious’ ways). It will take
a lot for Cairo to find a significant other, as he
won’t easily be attracted towards anyone. He
will likely only be sexually attracted to females.

--meaning; name meaning “the victorious”,
Egyptian capital

--reason; I wanted him to have a chronic
case of wanderlust, so I thought naming him
after the capital of Egypt sounded nice, and
fit that quirk/trait of his.
Nicknames:

◘Cai

This is a natural shortening of his name,
pronounced Kie. There’s no real reason for this
nickname other than ease and being shorter.

◘Squirtle/Squirt

His parents, mainly his father, often call
him Squirtle or Squirt. This is mostly when
they’re teasing him about being young or
smaller than them. He doesn’t typically mind
this nickname, but it can annoy him at times.

◘Mr. History

This nickname is due to his love for
history, and is used teasingly by family or
sometimes mockingly (by those his age).
He doesn’t mind this nickname when used
by family, but he doesn’t like when others
call him this.

◘Wikipedia/Wiki

This nickname is due to the large
amount of facts he knows, and his ability
to relate them to conversations. For
example, if you’re talking about not going
to the beach because you don’t want to
get attacked by a shark, he will tell you how
many shark attacks there are, on average,
each year and how many there were last year.
He’s actually sort of fond of this nickname,
and often sees it more like a compliment
than a nickname.

Senses:

◘ Sight

Cairo was born quite a bit earlier than he was meant to be born, leaving many of the cones in his eyes absent or improperly formed. This makes him mostly color blind in his left eye, with the exception of turquoise, seafoam green and similar shades of blue and green. The edges of his vision in his left eye fade into black. In his right eye, Cairo has mostly normal vision, with the exception of not being able to see turquoise, seafoam green and similar shades of blue and green. The edges of his vision in his right eye is mostly muted colors, generally almost grays. Cairo’s eyes are also slightly sensitive to lights, but it’s mainly just bright lights that give him trouble.
◘ Hearing

Luckily, his ears are much better than his eyes. Cairo has a very sharp sense of hearing, which is both good and bad. It’s good for obvious reasons, like being able to hear potential threats more easily. However, it’s also somewhat bad. His ears can be a tad over sensitive at times, making him somewhat more sensitive to loud noises. Cairo is mostly fine, but he can hear high frequencies better than most, which can hurt his ears at time.
◘ Taste

Cairo’s taste is average. He’s a bit more sensitive to spicy things, likely due to a lack of exposure to them. He tends to dislike most spicy food because of this, but he will occasionally eat mild salsa or hot sauce. Cairo tends to lean more towards things that taste sour or tangy than things that have other flavors to them. He doesn’t like sweets as much as others would assume, and likely eats far less of them than most of the other makos his age.
◘ Touch

Like his sense of hearing, he’s got very good tactile senses. He can easily tell the difference between cotton and cotton blends, etc. This is likely due to his great exposure to using his tactile senses. Cairo is constantly going out and doing things, and when he was younger he used to have to touch absolutely everything he came in contact with. Now he mostly just uses this sense when he goes out exploring, as he has little need to use it for anything else. He especially loves to try to distinguish different types of rocks by how they feel, as it’s generally a pretty fun game for him and doesn’t require anyone else to be around.
◘ Smell

Cairo has an average sense of smell. He wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between a lavender scented candle and a pine scented candle, but he could definitely distinguish them from an apple cinnamon scented candle. His favorite smells are the smells of dewy grass, apple cinnamon candles and blueberries.

Relationship with Caribae (Father):

Cairo admires his father a lot, possibly even more than most youngsters admire either of their parents. Caribae is the bravest of the brave, or at least as far as Cairo is concerned, and Cairo strives to be as brave as his father. His father is, without a doubt, a major role model to him.

Caribae is also very caring and never fails to try to cheer Cairo up when he’s down, which is both appreciated and admired by the youngster. He also admires the fact that his father is so easy to talk to, and never fails to help a friend. That’s something that he can’t easily imitate, try as he might, partially due to his quiet and reserved nature when he’s around most others. He shares his father’s boundless energy, and the two always seem to be off doing something together (sometimes to the point that Calypso can lose track of them if she’s away for a few moments).

However, the pup doesn’t mind rainy days nearly as much as his father, as he loves to go out in the rain and play in puddles afterwards. Cairo is nearly as determined as Caribae is, especially when it comes to his task of exploring and adventuring, but he does tend to give up a bit more easily due to his young age. Unlike his father, he can only be sneaky at certain times. He is quite charismatic, but he is not good at lying, especially to his parents. Another difference between the two is Caribae’s reluctance to travel. It makes Cairo sad that his father doesn’t share his dreams of traveling the world, and he plans to change his mind someday.

He hopes that when he gets older he will be a lot like his father, as Cairo sees him as an all around amazing mako.

Relationship with Calypso (Mother):

While Cairo is more similar to his father, he loves his mother just as much. He admires that she can be so laid-back and easygoing, as he personally can never sit still. He also likes the message of her motto, but much prefers the phrase “Carpe Diem” instead.

Like Calypso, he generally makes the most of his life with what he’s given, and he can get excited easily. Cairo is fairly confident, but not as confident as his mother seems to be. At this point in time, he isn’t flirty or risky in his love life (which there is a severe lack of, since he is still too young), and he will remain this way as he gets older. He doesn’t understand how she can be so willing to take risks in her love life. Another thing about his mother that he doesn’t quite understand is why she doubts her actions later on. Once Cairo makes a decision, he sticks by it for better or worse and doesn’t tend to regret it. Normally, he makes a decision and just moves on if it turns out poorly.

Like his father, Calypso is very nice, and this is another of the traits that Cairo admires in her. Her long bucket list is another thing that Cairo enjoys about her, especially since her bucket list includes traveling, and it has inspired him to make his own.

All-in-all, Cairo thinks that Calypso is a wonderful mako, and hopes that he gains a little bit more of her confidence and romanticism when he’s older.

Relationship with Amitola (Friend):

(This section is if I win; if not, I'll find another mako to fill this spot eventually.) Amitola is a fiery, often grumpy girl who likes to tag along with Cairo on his adventures. She’s got the “heart of an adventurer” as he likes to say, which matches up well with him. She’s much calmer than him, though, and generally prefers to sleep and take naps when they’re not adventuring together. He admires that about her, as he can never seem to sit still, despite sometimes wishing that he were able to. Amitola is also a lot more shy than he is, but she’s also a whole heck of a lot more talkative than he is once she gets to know you. It can be a bit irritating at times due to Cairo’s slight tendency to be intolerant, but most of the time he is very thankful for this as it means he doesn’t have to speak as much or be the one to keep up the conversation. All-in-all, Amitola is pretty alright in Cai’s eyes.

Bark (Companion/Friend):

Bark is a lovely little buckamoo that Cairo found on one of his adventures. He named him Bark because he found him stuck in a tree, and he made little barking sounds, too, so he thought he was being pretty darn clever. He brought Bark home and managed to convince his parents to keep the creature. Now, he is with Cairo pretty much 24/7 and makes the perfect guardian and companion to him while he goes exploring. He’s insanely found of his little buckamoo, and wouldn’t trade him for any other pet in the world.

Quirks:

◘ wanderlust

Cairo has a chronic case of wanderlust.

He wants to travel everywhere when he gets older, but for the time being he settles for traveling anywhere. Cai has a major obsession with traveling, and wishes that it was possible for him to travel more often than he gets to. It makes him fairly upset that his father doesn’t enjoy traveling, though, and he’s currently devising a plan to make him fall in love with it.

Part of Cairo’s wanderlust has to do with being very into history. He wants to go see where all of these things that he reads about happened, and he wants to go see all of these old cities and countries. Another, and possibly the largest part of his ‘condition’ has to do with the fact that he’s so curious and loves exploring. He just wants to go to places where he’s never been and do new things, whether that means traveling a few miles into the woods to a new place or going to a different country. The last thing that contributes to his wanderlust is his restless nature. Cairo never sits still. He never stops bounding around, and since he loves adventuring he simply uses his energy to explore.

◘ snail obsession

Cai has an odd obsession with snails.

Not to be confused with slugs, of course. He absolutely loves the little creatures, and has ever since he was very small. Cai went out exploring with his father and they found a whole group of them near some mushrooms. Cairo picked many of them up, and wanted to take them all home, but his father explained that they needed to “be with other snails.”

Cairo frequently plays with snails, and collects the shells that snails have grown out of. He has several snail shells in his collection, of many, many different colors and sizes. One of them is almost as big as the palm of his hand. That’s probably Cai’s favorite of all of the shells, or maybe the small blue one with black speckles all over it. Snails remind him of nice, breezy summer days and cool ponds. They make him happy, as they just seem to be so carefree and simple.

◘ asparagus fear

He’s afraid of asparagus, very afraid.

No one really knows why he’s afraid of asparagus, himself included. It’s just one of those completely irrational fears that you have and cannot get over or explain to save your life. Cairo’s always been afraid of asparagus, as far as he and his parents can remember. Cai won’t go near asparagus, and heaven help you if you try to make him eat asparagus. He just avoids the dreadful thing all together.

◘ clock obsession

He really, really, really loves clocks.

I mean, everything about clocks. Cairo loves the way they look and the way they sound -– that tick tock is like music to his ears. He loves the way they smell (mainly the wooden ones) and the way they feel. Probably his favorite thing about clocks would have to be the way they look, and the way they sound, though. He currently has about five clocks in his small collection, but he’s desperately hoping to get more very soon.

Cai also likes to take clocks apart and look at the insides of them. One of his favorite things to do is to take the back panel off of clocks and keep everything else intact, that way he can watch the gears turning inside of the clock. He also really likes to take them apart and then put them back together, or just try to fix broken clocks. In general, Cairo isn’t that great at fixing a broken clock, at least not yet, but he’s pretty good at taking them apart and putting them back together as long as he studies each part before he takes them out and again while he’s taking them out one by one.

◘ love of star fruits

Cairo is quite the fan of star fruits.

While this might not come as much of a surprise considering he likes fruits in general a lot. However, his favorite fruits are definitely star fruits. They’re just so tangy and sweet and delicious, and he could eat them all day long. Cai also thinks that the fruit is really awesome looking, since it really is shaped like a star. His favorite smoothie is a star fruit smoothie. His favorite dessert is butter pecan ice cream with star fruit on the side. Without a doubt, Cairo loves star fruit.

◘ button collector

Cairo is an avid button collector.

His collection started when he found a very old iron button at the beach. It was large and had an anchor carved into it, and it made him think of adventures in far off places and riding on a ship. He likes to imagine that it belonged to some great pirate like Blackbeard, even though he knows that it probably didn’t. After he found that first button, he just began to love them. Suddenly, when Cai picked up a button it had a big story to tell, full of adventures and excitement.

Cairo has the old iron button that sparked his interest still, but he wears it on a necklace. His main collection consists of many different buttons. He has small buttons, big buttons, wooden buttons, plastic buttons, lady bug buttons, black buttons –- he has just about any button you can think of. He’s very proud of his button collection, despite most people thinking that it’s a lame thing to collect. Cai’s buttons are exciting to him, and even more important, they’re his.

◘ map collector

He also avidly collects maps.

His map collection is, for the most part, his pride and joy. Cai has all sorts of maps of all sorts of places. He has simple continent maps, country maps, state maps, city maps and even zoo maps or maps of other establishments (like parks, etc). He also has maps that show the different biomes and habitats in certain areas. His favorite map is a map of Egypt that includes little pyramids. Cairo likes it so much partially because he was named after the capital of the country and partially because he wants to go see the pyramids in Egypt.

For Cai, the map that started out his collection was a simple map of a zoo. For some reason, he just really loved the map, and he quickly got his parents to buy him a world map. The world map was one of the first things Cairo ever got, and it was the first time that he truly realized how big the world was and how much there was for him to explore. In a way, it sort of sparked his wanderlust, but his wanderlust is what has kept his map collection going. He hopes that one day he’ll get to travel to all of the places that he has a map of.

◘ endless supply of facts

Cai has a seemingly endless supply of facts.

He seems to know much more than a six year old should, but really it’s just that he readily shares the knowledge that he does have. He can easily relay and find a place in a conversation for information that he’s discovered, whether he read it in a book or uncovered it while exploring. In fact, Cairo is delighted when he’s able to share a bit of knowledge with someone, especially if it was something that they didn’t already know.

Sometimes some of the facts that Cai knows are pretty useless, at least they’re very random and seem to be quite unhelpful. That’s not to say that he doesn’t know plenty of useful information. However, Cairo may not always know how to apply this knowledge in the real world, which is frequently where his parents come in. For example, he may know all of the steps to changing a tire, but he can’t actually change a tire just because he knows the process.

◘ love of accents

He loves accents.

Not only does Cairo love listening to accents, but he also loves immitating them. He’s always really loved the way that different accents sound. Over the years his love for accents has mainly manifested in his immitation of them. Sometimes he’ll randomly start speaking in another accent for no real reason. He’s gotten fairly good at Russian, German, Irish and English accents. Cai does have trouble, however, doing other accents, especially Indian accents.

◘ buckamoo love

Cairo loves buckamoos.

He discovered the cute little creatures quite a while ago, when he was still very young, and has taken an interest in them ever since. He finds the small, fluffy creatures to be insanely endearing, and couldn’t adore them more than he does. Cairo has wanted to have one as a pet since he first discovered them, but he had no reason to have one.

About a year ago, however, that changed. He found an injured buckamoo while exploring and brought the creature home, where he and his parents nursed the small animal back to health. Cai managed to convince them to let him keep the buckamoo as a pet, and he named him Bark. Bark rarely leaves Cairo’s side now, even going along with the family on beach trips and other vacations despite the buckamoo’s apparent fear of water.

Explanation (Likes):

As you already know, Cairo absolutely looooooves traveling. He loves the thrill of going somewhere new,
seeing something he's never seen before, discovering something he never knew before. He also loves
prettymuch anything that has to do with traveling, which encompasses his love for maps and globes.
However, healso just finds maps and globes really interesting. His favorite globes are the 3D globes
that have pop-out mountain ranges and things like that.

His love for history is also somewhat connected to his love for travel; they definitely feed each other
if nothing else. Cai is a complete history buff, and gets extremely excited over history in general.
His love for history is a large part of the reason that Cairo likes mythology so much. That and the fact
that he simply finds it interesting and entertaining (especially ancient mythology). His love for
Grimm's Fairy Tales also sorta stems from his love of mythology, and the fact that he's quite a bit
fascinated with the slightly morbid take on classic fairy tales.

Snails and buckamoos he likes because he just finds them to be adorable and fascinating. His love for
buckamoos also stems from his love for his trusty 'side-kick', Bark, and the overall playful nature of the
creatures. Cai likes fruit because he just loves the way (most) fruits taste and smell. He likes water and
surfing because he was raised with two surfer parents, so it sort of just rubbed off on him. He also finds
that the animals that live in the ocean are interesting, and likes to study them. While he likes surfing,
Cairo mostly prefers paddling out on the surfboard and relaxing rather than actually surfing.

He likes the cold weather just because he's always preferred the cold to the hot. It feels soothing and
relaxing to be out in the cold, unlike in the hot weather. Cairo likes grass just because, and he likes to
roll around in it and take little naps in it. He likes the way clocks and buttons look, feel and sound.
They're just so lovely in his opinion. Cai's favorite color is turquoise because it's one of the only colors
that he can see out of his left eye.
Explanation (Dislikes):

Cairo doesn't like dark, light or bright colors(/lights) because they're harder for him to see due to his
somewhat limited vision. He doesn't like high frequency noises because they hurt his somewhat over
sensitive ears. Crowds make him feel nervous, especially if he's not close to his father (or mother). He
doesn't like heights because he's afraid of falling. Cairo doesn't like sitting still because he's so full of
energy, but sometimes he does wish that he could sit still.

He hates vegetables because, honestly, what little kid likes them? Cai also doesn't like most seafood,
with the exception of catfish. Another food that he's not fond of would be mushrooms. As much as he
hates to eat mushrooms, though, Cairo absolutely loves the way they look and he thinks that they're
pretty darnneat as long as they're not on his plate. Bananas are the only fruit that Cairo doesn't like.
The texture of bananas makes him gag, but the flavor of bananas is alright (and he loves most
banana flavored candy).

Cai haaaates hot weather. He's okay with hot weather if he's at the beach where he can cool down in
the water, but he can't stand to be anywhere else in the heat, which prevents him from exploring
most places when it's hot outside. Unlike with cold weather, there's only so much that you can do. He
doesn't like thunder or lightening because they scare him a bit, and thunder can hurt his ears at times.
Cairo doesn't like coral because it frequently scrapes him up whenever he goes surfing. Cairo hates
ants because he finds them to be very pesky and annoying, and he doesn't like birds because small
birds tend to scare him.

Job:

Surgeon, Anthropologist, Archaeologist


Cairo desperately wants to do all three of these things right now, and I personally have yet to decide which I believe would be the best for him. Right now, I'm thinking that he'll likely end of being a surgeon and working in the peace corps for a while before settling down with a family and working in a more safe environment.

Ambitions:

◘ travel to every country in the world at least once
◘ become a surgeon
◘ become part of the peace corps
◘ discover something the world hasn't seen before
◘ become the world's leading expert on at least 2 ancient civilizations


Some of these ambitions are very far fetched, especially when taken into account all of his other ambitions. However, these are ambitions that Cairo has always had and will probably have until he gets to be much, much older. He'll accomplish at least two of them as he grows, I'm sure (likely the surgeon and peace corps ones).

Goals:

◘ have a successful career
◘ have a big family
◘ be an amazing father
◘ be an amazing husband
◘ be an amazing son


These are the more realistic goals that he has set for his life, and they are mainly personal goals dealing with family.

Calypso stood over the crib silently, dim lights of the nursery giving her bright pelt a glow.

Beneath the plastic, a very tiny dark colored baby lay, squeaking softly as he slept. Calypso watched intently, though still silent, as the small baby's ribs moved up and down rapidly. The baby's body rattled with every breath, and it gave the beholder the idea that it would stop breathing at any moments. That tiny little baby was a boy. A beautiful boy. Her boy. A dying boy...

She shuttered at the thought of loosing her first born, and tried feebly to push the thought away. It wasn't something that could be avoided, the doctors said. The boy would die, they said. Calypso clenched her teeth in defiance. 'No,' she thought forcefully, 'He will survive because he is a fighter... because he is my son.' Was he a fighter because she was his son, or was she choosing to believe that he was a fighter simply because he was her son?

She was convinced that he would come through alright, no matter what the doctors said, and that hope hadn't been crushed out of her. He had been born only a few weeks ago, but it was a miracle that he'd survived this long. Whether Calypso believed that the doctors knew what they were talking about or not, she did agree with them on that much. After all, that small boy had been born much too early than he should have been, and he had been plagued by pneumonia since then.

Calypso watched her son closely, afraid that if she took her eyes off of him for even a moment he might be lost.

Then, suddenly, the boy opened his eyes and stared up at her, as if trying to tell her that he would, indeed be alright. He continued to look up at her, making the same soft squeaking sounds as he had in his sleep. Her large green eyes were reflected by his own as the two watched each other for several moments.

"It'll be okay, little Cairo. I promise nothing's going to happen to you," Calypso whispered softly to the baby, barely audible to Caribae, whom had appeared in the doorway many minutes ago and stood watching the two in silence.

Cairo bounded away, a seagull, an angry seagull, hot on his heels.

He hated seagulls. He hated seagulls so much; they're just so scary, with their big, menacing beaks and shrill squawks, or at least they were to Cairo. The young mako sought refuge from the angry bird in a cave near the edge of the ocean water. He doubled over for a second, out of breath and panting from the chase. He hated seagulls.

Cai recovered from his run fairly quickly, and when he did his eyes lit up in delight. He hadn't noticed this cave before, and he definitely hadn't gone exploring in it before. He padded around the mouth of the cave, nose pressed to the ground, in search of something-- anything! He didn't know what he was looking for to be honest, but he did know he was looking for something. Cairo kept his nose pressed against the ground as he began to slowly move deeper into the cave.

The cave floor was damp and smelled salty, especially the further back you went. Cairo jumped up, "Aha!" he shouted gleefully. 'I haven't noticed the cave because it's underwater during high tide! And mom and dad like to come here during high tide, since that's when it's best to surf around here...' He held his head high as he pranced deeper into the cave, overwhelmingly happy about his clever deduction.
