Not Quite Different.

Postby Alkene » Thu Oct 10, 2013 10:47 am

The downpour left Penumbra soaked to the bone. Her body ached from running off. She had taken a stroll in the forest, scaring off some wildlife in the process with her looks. It didn't bother her that much though. She was quite used to it. The forest critters scurried off in a rush, trying to get out of the rain. She was all alone.

The wolf squinted her working eye in order to see what was in front of her. It didn't help that her tuft of hair kept making it's way in front of it. A large abandoned castle could be seen up ahead. She decided she would take refuge there for now. Her owner had probably been worried at the moment, but he always knew that she could find her way back home. As she entered the large building, her paws touched the dry ground, dampening it with the water. It was dark and cold in the castle, but it was much safer than the outside. Her eye skimmed around the place, wondering how it had gone abandoned. There was elegant vases and busts that were laying on the ground, shattered like glass. There was something very odd about this place though. In fact, she felt like she was being watched.

At the top of the castle stairs stood a rogue-looking wolf. His figure was faint, but visible. His eyes on the other hand, were sharp and held a piercing gaze. It was a ghost. Anger seemed to have reflected from his eyes and showed Penumbra that she was not wanted here. Her eyes met his and she shrank back a bit. Never had she met such an immense glare. The two watched each other silently before the spirit spoke.

"Do you think you can just prance along over here? You are not welcome"

Penumbra gained her confidence back and swallowed the lump in her throat. Her muzzle lifted as she sent her thought to him, for she could not speak as her mouth was sowed shut.

Apologies. I was just trying to find shelter until the storm ends. I didn't mean to disturb you.
"The least you could do is introduce yourself"
Penumbra. My name is Penumbra. And you are?
"I...I don't know my name. You may call me Rip."

Penumbra examined the ghost, seeing him flinch when she asked for a name. She could see that he was greatly troubled by something. What surprised her was that he did not flee from her looks. Could it be that he has seen someone like her before? She stood there and watched him. The silence to the two wasn't exactly...awkward to say the least.

Might I ask...how you died, Rip?

With this, Rip's eyes averted away. He descended down the stairs, floating over the steps. Rip's throat let out a low growl.

"Give me a good reason why I should tell you"

Look at me. We both look like we've had a bad past, don't we? You look tortured by the weight your past puts on you. Why not let it off your chest? I'll tell you mine, if you would like.

As the two spoke, the ghost was taken aback. Who was this strange wolf? Why would she want to know about him? He let out a light and amusing laugh, which was rare for him. How strange...they were practically the same.

A Recollection

Postby Alkene » Thu Oct 10, 2013 11:56 am

"Momma, it's freezing out here" the little furball shouted. His sister on the other hand, had been prancing around in the snow like a deer on the moon. "You'll have to get used to it, Symphonic. It will always be like this" his mother spoke, laughing lightly with amusement. He and his sister were young, so they still had a lot of fur that needed to grow. Symphonic huffed in protest, headbutting his sister and making her tumble around. She rolled around a few times until she toppled over into a pile of white. She got up and shook herself off, her tail swaying like a shark who was about to swim in for the kill.

"Wanna fight?!" she growled.
"Bite.Me." he responded, smirking.

But before the two could clash, their mother picked Symphonic up by the scruff, making him squirm in anger. Her glare made him stop though. "That's enough you two. It's time to sleep" she spoke after setting him down. The two cubs almost instantly forgot about their quarrel and grinned in unison, racing to the den.

-Time Skip-

As their mother slept quietly and peacefully, the two children whispered to each other. They were fully awake and ready for adventure. "Come on, Melody! I heard there's treasure behind the large glacier!" Symphonic whispered, running out of the den. His sister smiled brightly and followed. The sky was dark, the only light source had come from the moon. The water current had been restless tonight, crashing onto the icy land. The two stared at the giant glacier, watching as the water made it shift a bit.

"Are you sure we should go?" Melody asked nervously, feeling the chilly wind on her back.

Symphonic grinned, seeing small floating platforms that would help him get across. "Just wait here, you baby! I'll go get the treasure myself". With that, the Mako cub hopped onto a platform, eyeing the next one. His sister looked very worried, seeing her brother struggle onto the next ice platform. She turned back, wondering if she should call her mother.

"Bass...we should probably head back!" she called out.
"Calm down, Melody. Your tail's shakin' again" he teased, smirking.

Melody felt her stomach churn, finally running into the den to get her mother. But, before the two made it to Symphonic, his paw slipped and he met the water. The current was too strong for him to swim and even if he could breathe in it, the waves had knocked the wind out of him. Bass had lost consciousness. The water carried him off, far....far across the sea to Iceland.

Back at home, his mother wept, shaking her head quickly as if she was trying to wake herself up from a nightmare. Melody, his sister, had also cried, wishing that he was still alive. She was wishing that he had just been playing one of his dumb tricks again and that he'd come back. The two females shed many tears that night, hoping that the playful and energetic boy would come back. To his mother, it felt like part of her heart had been torn out.

Symphonic had drifted off, but he was not gone. No, he is still alive today and still playing his dumb old tricks and telling cheesy jokes. You could say he's a lucky one, for he was saved by a fellow Mako, who thinks of Bass as a troublemaker. A troublemaker that he was happy to save.

His Hero

Postby Alkene » Sat Oct 12, 2013 4:10 pm

The cub's body was picked up by a strong yet gentle muzzle. His savior looked rather annoyed than worried for the child. "It's freezing out here and you decided to go for a swim, lad?" he muttered, even if Bass could not hear him. His red eyes squinted a bit as the snow pelted his fur and limited his vision. He let out a sigh and picked Bass back up, slipping into his warm den. The adult shook his fin of snow and set the cub on top of a make-shift nest.

An hour passed and the adult had dragged back a cod fish. The smell had apparently awoken Symphonic, making him stir a bit. The cub's eyes fluttered open, looking up slowly at the other male.

"Wh-where am I? Who are-"
"I figured those questions would be asked. If ya must know, kiddo, I'm Davy. I can tell you traveled a long way by sea. You were drifting there"

As Davy spoke, flashbacks of the scene came back to Bass' head, reminding him of what really happened. Bass stared at the stranger, examining his strong horns and red tie.

"It's rude to stare, mate"

But, Bass continued to be mesmerized before shaking himself out of it. "Right....sorry". Davy looked down at the cub, giving an amusing smirk. As troublesome as he was...Symphonic was rather cute. "Well, eat up. You look hungry" Davy spoke, pushing the Cod toward Symphonic. The child barked in pleasure, not hesitating to wolf down the fish. He licked his jaws and grinned sheepishly. Then...he thought of the situation he was in and his grin dropped.

"Where should I go now? Home is so far away" he choked out, staring at the ground.
"This place is no house...but, it can become a home. Do what you want. You can either stay here or survive out there on your own. We have a lot of Makoatl here, but I doubt they have room for one more"

Bass's eyes widened. Did Davy really offer him a place to stay? Was it alright to make this place his new home? Overwhelmed with emotion, the cub shed tears. Davy was taken aback, a bit surprised at the sudden crying, but Bass quickly smiled. "Thank you...Davy. The name's Symphonic!" he yipped.

"Alright Symphonic, here's a rule for staying here."
"Yeah? I'll do anything!"
"No crying is allowed."

Before Bass could question his rule, Davy's paw wiped the tears from Bass's eyes, then roughly messing up his hair. "Oww!" Bass whimpered, shaking his head. It was meant to be a playful gesture, but Davy rough-housed a little. Symphonic growled but started laughing lightly when he got that Davy was only messing with him. He could really get used to it here.

~Time Skip to 2 years~

"Hey Sweet-Cheeks, why don't we go catch some fish together?" Bass asked, smirking as he flirtatiously winked at a female Mako. She shuffled her paws in embarrassment, feeling heat rise to her face.

"Symphonic, how many times do I have to tell you?! Leave people alone" Davy called out, sighing. Bass playfully whimpered, nudging his shoulder. "Aww, come on pops. You're no fun" he teased, making Davy shove the teen to the ground playfully. "You're such a bother" he muttered.

"You say that everyday. But, I know ya like me" Bass childishly pouted, shaking his shark tail like a dog. His mentor on the other hand, rolled his eyes and gave Bass another shove into the icy-waters.

Symphonic resurfaced, laughing loudly. The water soaked his fur and made him look smaller. He hopped back onto the surface, laying onto his back.

"You're more annoying when you're happy then when you were a sad, helpless cub" Davy muttered, smirking.
"I made a promise remember? To not cry!"
"...I now regret making that rule"

A New Home (*Warning* Slightly Sad)

Postby Alkene » Fri Oct 25, 2013 12:01 pm

One day, I'll fly like papa.

That's what the little dragon told herself. She hopped excitedly onto her paws and ran to join her mother on a morning walk. The jewel on her little head glowed brightly, showing that she was in a good mood. Not that she had ever been in a bad one. She valiantly walked beside her mother, taking in the scenery. A crystal clear lake, grass, trees, and flowers had nothing on the sky. Oh, how she loved flying! She may have been a water Jewel, but she was definitely more interested in the blue sky.

"Choharu, what are you thinking so deeply about?" Her mother asked with a light chuckle. She nudged her little one on the shoulder, seeing that she was spacing out.

"Oh, nothin' mama. I was just thinking about flying with papa today. When's he coming back?" she replied, looking at her mother. Her gaze searching for an answer.

Her mother smiled, shrugging her broad shoulders. "I don't know" she simply mumbled. It had been a few days since Choharu's father had left. He spoke of flying to a human town and gathering some souvenirs for the little jewel. He was also thinking of hunting for birds on the way home. The thought had made her mother worry. What if something had happened to him? Oh if something went wrong she would surely-

But as soon as she thought of it, a sudden gust of wind flew by. There was a large figure casting a shadow from the sky. It was Choharu's father. He gave a sheepish grin to the two and dove down, scooping little Choharu over him so she was sitting on his back. "Papa! What took you so long?" she called out, giggling sweetly. Her father laughed along, glancing over at her. "I had to find the best scarf and goggles for you! I wouldn't want you to get cold while I teach you how to fly, would I?"

The large Jewel landed beside Choharu's mother, giving her a quick lick on the muzzle in greeting and allowing his daughter to get off of his back. When she landed on four paws, he took something out from his satchel, wrapping it around the child's neck loosely. It was a beautiful red scarf, a bit over-sized, but not too large. He then put a pair of leather goggles on her, smiling proudly at his find.

"Like it?"
"Are you kidding me? I love it!"

-Time Skip-

Many months had passed and all was silent. It wasn't a calm silence in the forest though, it was a threatening and scary silence. A forest fire had started not far from home, and it was certain that it would reach in a matter of minutes. Choharu and her parent's panicked now, seeing as the flames were becoming visible. Choharu wasn't a skilled dragon when it came to flight and she was way too grown to be carried. Water was not helping with the forest fire. It had spread too quickly to put out. They had no choice but to run for their lives. Her parent's couldn't leave her, that option was never going to be on the list.

Choharu panted heavily, running behind her parents, it was hard to keep up with such fast runners. With them, a large amount of wildlife had also been fleeing. The fire had been catching up, eating at anything they could reach. Choharu's wings flapped. She had been trying to fly every now and then as she ran, but her wings were not strong enough yet.

"Choharu, look out!" her father yelled, pushing her aside. She rolled around against the harsh dirt, struggling to stand up. When she did, her father had been lying under a tree.

No. No. No.

Her mother stopped in her tracks, running back for him. She shook her head vigorously and sobbed. He was gone. There was no time for mourning and she knew that. Turning to Choharu with tears in her eyes, she sighed. "I'll catch up with you later, hurry! Don''t worry about me, alright? If I don't catch up....you find somewhere safe" she choked, determined to push the tree off of Choharu's father. She knew it was no use, so why did she try?

The young Jewel tried to protest, telling her mother she couldn't leave them, but her mother had already snapped at her, pushing her onward. The young dragon ran...and never looked back.

With her red scarf slightly tattered, the Jewel had finally made it to a safe distance. Her tears had finally decided to spill, feeling scared and helpless. Where was she supposed to go now? She had ran way too far to turn back on time. Her pants came out heavily, staring at a small house in front of her. Will the humans accept her? She took a slow step forward and began to sob.

"Mama....Papa" she wailed. What could she do?

And for a while, she sat there on the side of the road, sniffling the last of her cries. A small light had blinded her sight for a bit, but it was not a car; but a flashlight.

"You poor thing" a voice whispered softly.

A hand reached out to her, but Choharu flinched and backed up. She growled and bared her teeth. "I'm not going to hurt you, I promise" the girl said reassuringly, kneeling down beside the Jewel. Her gaze was trustworthy. The human stared at her, looking amazed, despite the dirt that had covered Choharu's silky fur. After a moment of silence, Choharu stopped her sniffling and slowly sniffed at the girl's hand, nuzzling it after. The girl smiled gently, petting Choharu on the head.

-Time Skip-

After a while of convincing, Choharu had made her way into the human's home. She called herself: "Ayame" apparently. The Jewel had taken a bath, feeling warm water against herself. After constant washing, Choharu's majestic fur had finally revealed itself. Then, Ayame fed Choharu some chicken.

The jewel was obviously shy at first, but she grew to love the human. It was only a matter of weeks until the two grew close. That was when Choharu began to open up about her past. Ayame didn't mind, reassuring Choharu that she would never leave her behind. Although the past has still haunted her, Choharu has returned to her energetic and friendly self. She has also learned how to fly, with the help of her new friend. Choharu is allowed to come and go as she pleases, allowing her to make more friends every day from the nearby forest.

It was a new home....a new start.

The Crow's Calling

Postby Alkene » Sat Jan 18, 2014 5:21 pm

The sickly Mako looked up at her energetic siblings. They pranced around and chased each other, ignoring the fact that she was watching all alone. She groaned to herself, watching them have all the fun while her mother restricted her from going outside. "It's too dangerous" she mimicked her mother's voice in an annoying tone. She sighed deeply, resting her head in front of the den entrance. A crow landed on a tree in front of her, cawing loudly. "Your fate will change, your fate will change" it repeated in a sing-song voice. She tilted her head in confusion until the bird got annoying. "Shut up!" she snapped, covering her ears with her paws. She gritted her teeth.

Why did she have to be born a weakling?

The days dragged out longer, and each day, she was stuck inside while her siblings were outside romping. Everyday, that crow came back to repeat it's lines. And everyday, she would try to shut it out. It wasn't all bad though, her big brother, Daichi would come in often and tell her stories until she fell asleep. He would say how strong she'll grow up to be and how energetic she'll be to play with him. He would also bring in little gifts of nature for her; acorns, fish, leaves, flowers. She'd always be grateful.

"One day you'll be king and you'll forget about me" she muttered, looking down at her tiny paws. He grinned and ruffled her hair. "Never! Who knows? You might be the one saving me from an evil dragon when we're older!" he predicted, laughing lightly. A small smile appeared on her face before laughing along. "Yeah! I'll be the knight and you'll be the little kid" she teased, headbutting her brother on his side. He began to ponder when the crow returned for his daily visit. "Why does that thing like you so much?" he hummed, tilting his head. She stopped her laughing and frowned.

"I don't know, but I hate that bird"

True Beauty is Within The Heart

Postby Alkene » Tue Jul 08, 2014 11:13 am

Tine was a beauty. His looks resembling a raging fire ignited in the night. As gorgeous as he was though, Tine was also troubled by an hamartia. He was blind. Not just the average: "Oh, that's really blurry", but blind as in the poor lad saw complete darkness. What a fatal flaw he had. He could not see the world in its true beauty. He could not see the high mountains or the blades of green grass beneath his paws. It had been a curse all his life.

Tine felt his way through the forest. His paws cautiously padding over the damp floor. "There we are" he muttered, grinning to himself. His ears perked at the sound of a waterfall. Waterfalls usually meant water source and water source usually meant greenery or bugs. He slowly made his way over, careful as to not slip and fall into the harsh current. Food was scarce around these parts of the forest, and he was happy to find somewhere to start foraging. His grin widened when he stepped on something and it turned to mush under his paws. It was a blueberry from the feel of it and the shape. Everything was going well until someone called out to him.

"Best not eat that. It's poisonous" a voice cautioned. Tine jumped a bit in surprise. He had not heard another animal nearby him earlier. His eyes narrowed and he turned toward the voice, growling menacingly. "Who are you and what do you want?!" he snapped, stepping forward. The creature answered with a chuckle, walking towards Tine. "You do know you're facing the wrong way, right? You blind as a bat or-" the creature stopped in his tracks and cut himself off when noticing that Tine could not see. The creature examined Tine, looking at his glazed-over eyes.

"S-sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Yeah. You didn't mean to. Why not make another blind joke? After all, it's probably hilarious to you" Tine insisted, clenching his teeth.

The creature shook his head, even though Tine couldn't see it. "No, no, I'm really sorry! I was just trying to help at first. I thought lightening up the mood would help, but uh..." he mumbled, shifting his paws a bit. "Uhm, here. I apologize again. My name is Vital by the way. You?" Tine felt something touch his paws and he warily felt it. It was furry...a hare possibly by the smell of it. "I'm...Tine. Why bother helping a blind-bat like me anyways? I won't make it out there with my disability" Tine murmured, staring blankly at the hare in front of him.

"Well Tine, I believe that we all have flaws. They're just on different levels. But guess what? We're all gonna make it through" Vital spoke, smiling cheerfully. Tine scoffed and took a bite out of the hare. "Did you get that from the back of a cereal box or something?" he grumbled, looking toward the voice. Vital only laughed at this and sat.

"What are you doing out here anyways? From your voice, you don't sound like you're from here" Tine asked, calming down a bit more. Sure this guy was a stranger, but he saved him from eating a poison berry and from starvation as well. Vital gave a content sigh as he explained. "I'm a traveler, good sir. I'm a Pip who goes across the world to help others with anything. I simply stumbled across you and wanted to give a little" he spoke, puffing out his chest proudly. Tine tilted his head in interest. "A helping traveler you say? Doesn't actually sound bad" he mumbled to himself. He closed his eyes and frowned. It sounded like a life he had always wanted, if he were able to see of course. Think about all of the people you can meet traveling. All of the tasty foods and sights you could see. If you could see.

"Tell me something. Is the world as wonderful as they say? Is it beautiful? Is it full of colors that I cannot even imagine?" he asked sadly. He immediately regretted asking it. The Pip would probably describe something so wonderful that he would be angered by how he could not see it.

Vital stared at Tine, smiling sadly for the blind Plumerian. "It's a bit hard to explain. The world is beautiful from an angle. There are crystal-clear lakes, amazing views from the mountains, the variety of colors in a flower. However, there are also horrifying things in this world. Some that you never want to see. I don't know, Tine. I will tell you this though: 'True beauty cannot be seen or touched. It must be felt within the heart'. You don't have to see to know that the beauty is there. That it exists" he spoke.

Tine stopped eating and pondered quietly. He then turned toward Vital and smiled softly. He opened his eyes, revealing their dull color. But, Tine wasn't feeling down anymore. He was feeling alive at the thought of traveling. "Then...may I travel with you? I want to go places and meet new people. I want to see the true beauty-" he put his paw to his chest and grinned at the thought."-I want to feel it through my heart because this lonely forest offers nothing to me."

Vital thought for a moment before he grinned and picked up his traveling gear.

"Where do we start?"

Grumpy Friend

Postby Alkene » Thu Oct 09, 2014 8:04 am

"I told you that I could push myself" Ashton murmured in a stubborn tone, blush barely visible. He instantly quieted himself from anymore complaints when he took in the beautiful surroundings. Autumn leaves colored the ground in bright orange, red, and yellow.

Dezel felt a bit scared at his friend insisting to push himself. Ashton seemed more sick at the time than Dezel, and it worried him deeply that Ashton would hurt himself in some-way-some-how. It always seemed to happen when Ashton was too stubborn to accept assistance. Sure they were both weak in health, but Dezel knew better on how to take care of himself. His mouth twitched into a small smile when seeing his friend go quiet and examining the forest in awe. "See, it's not s-so bad, relaxing for a bit instead of doing something by yourself all the time" he said in a soft, velvety voice. Ashton let out a quiet sigh, glancing back at his friend. He turned back to the dirt-path ahead of them and returned the smile. "Thanks, Dezel..." he said, barely above a whisper. But with the quiet scenery, Dezel could hear every word. They weren't words you would hear every day from the grumpy-Plumerian, and that had made Dezel very happy.

They strolled along the path, both content in the silence. Ashton for once felt ecstatic. Sitting back and admiring the scene instead of working hard and worrying if he'd have the strength to wheel back was a nice change. Dezel was a true friend. He'd learn that from day one, but hid how happy he had been around the other until recently. The two had grown close since they had met and had been with each other through thick-and-thin, whether it was through online connections or a real hangout. Dezel had always been there, even when Ashton had kept pushing him away. Ashton was glad. He was glad that he had made a friend who stayed by his side.

"Dezel...I" he began to murmur, trying to muster up the right words.
"Hmm..?" Dezel hummed at the break of the silence. His eyes glanced over at Ashton's shoulder, smiling warmly.
"Uhm...t-thanks" Ashton simply said, not sure what exactly he wanted to say.

Dezel chuckled softly, pushing his friend on. "You said that already, silly" he said quietly, shaking his head. He knew what his friend was trying to thank him for this time though, and his smile grew. "You're welcome, Ash."
