Aya And The Dragons
The sun stood high in the sky, and the green, freshly cut grass tickled under the feet of Aya. She wore the beautiful white dress she had received as a birthday gift and a paper crown made of gold paper on top of her head.
Aya had been allowed to hand out birthday invitations alone, so she ran across the road from her house to the other to knock on the door of Ane, her best friend. She stopped when she came up the stairs and lifted her hand to ring the bell. She waited. No one came. She stuck the invitation under the door and continued on her journey.
She ran across the road to give the next invitation to another friend. She did not look before she crossed this time, and suddenly a car came running towards her at a fast speed. The car crashed into her and she fell to the ground. The white dress turned red. She heard the sound of screaming and yelling.
Then everything went black.
Aya woke up in a kind of forest. It was dark, and the sky was purple-orange. She saw something bright in the dark. Six green dots and six orange. But they moved ... They came closer.
She heard some noises. Strange sounds she had never heard. Suddenly two large creatures out of the shadows. One was slightly larger than the other, and was the creature who had six orange dots that turned out to be six orange eyes. The other had green eyes. All twelve eyes looked straight at Aya.
"Food?" Said the biggest. The other looked annoyed on him, and used the whip-like tail to slap him in the back of his head. "Be quiet, you fool. This is not a creature of our world." The green-eyed creature had a female voice. She had gray, dark gray and white skin. She had white hair that went from the top of the head down to the shoulders. Or, shoulders to the front feet. They had four feet, both of them, and looked like lizard-like dragons.
The other had dark gray, light brown and white skin with black hair that looked like the others hair, only that he had hair on his stomach aswell. Aya could not judge whether the creature was a boy or girl because she just heard him say "food" but she could tell that it was clearly not a girl.
Aya looked around, a little worried about what they would do.
"Where am I?" She noticed that her dress was white again. "Shattrathk, the best planet in the universe." said the light brown dragon and raised his head proudly. "Shattrathk? I ... What?" Aya stared at him.
"Where are you from, then?" he laughed. "Earth." The gray dragon, the girl, looked at her, before she leaned to the side and said something in the ear of the light brown dragon. "Huh? Are you sure?" he said, and his eyes changed shape, as if he was surprised. Aya looked down. Both dragons looked at her. "You are the one who will save us from captivity." said the gray dragon. Aya looked up. "Huh? Save you from what?" The dragons exchanged glances before continuing. "Well ... Our friends and our family has been taken to the slave of Talon, an evil person who will take us and use us to pull wagons and such."
"But he do not use us nicely." They looked at each other.
"Why are you here, then?" Aya said. "We were there, but we managed to escape. We cannot say the same about the others." They had a sad expression on their faces. Aya thought. "Okay, I'm in." They brightened up immediately. "But you did not say your names. So what are your names?"
The light brown male dragon mumbled something before he answered. "Rokor." he said finally. The gray said her name at once. "And I am Xani."
"Rokor and Xani. Okay. My name is Aya." Aya smiled. "How are we supposed to ... Free your friends, you know?" Xani looked at Rokor. Rokor was in his own thoughts. Xani slapped him with her tail again. He jumped. "Oh, yes. Talon carries a magic key that is used to open their cells. The cells are surrounded by black magic, and only the key can break through the magic and lock up."
Aya began to walk. "Hey, where are you going?" cried Xani. "Well, shall save them or not?" Rokor ran after Aya. Xani looked at them before she came aswell.
Aya smiled, but inside she was worried. How would she get back to Earth? How did she get here? She had to wait to see. Maybe the dragons could not help.
"Hungry..." complained Rokor. He looked around until he laid eyes on a green, glowing fungus that stood beside the trail they were walking on. He ran over to it.
Xani noticed that he went there. "No, Rokor. Do not eat ..." She was interrupted by a chewing noise that came from him. "... The fungus." she completed.
Rokor dropped to the ground. He twitched a little, but he seemed to be fine.
If you ignore the fact that his eyes were a little rainbow colored and he suddenly mumbled "the british are coming".
Xani shook her head before she went over to him. "Genius Rokor strikes again." She put a foot on his face. Her feet had two toes, and both front feet had an extra "thumb" which was not on the back legs. Rokor sat there with his rainbow eyes for a while before they got back their orange color. Aya leaned toward Xani.
"Does he always do such weird things?" She whispered in the ear of the dragon. "Yes. You have not missed anything." They continued to walk. Aya saw a mountain far, far away in the fog. Atop of the mountain she saw something that looked like a castle.
"We should take a break. My feet hurt." Xani said. Aya was about to go into the woods, but Xani ran over to her and stopped her.
"Do not go into the woods. There lives the spirits of the dead." Aya's eyes widened. "Why are they in the forest, and why do they not sleep in peace?"
Rokor came into the conversation. "We burn the dead and spread their ashes in the woods where we used to stay before. Spirits will not rest before Talon has been stopped and before our friends have been released."
Aya realized how serious the matter was. She said nothing. Xani could see that she felt uncomfortable by the situation, so she broke into. "Well, shall we sit down and take a break now?" She smiled. They went back to the trail.
A nasty fog came and settled over them as they sat on the trail.
A strange blue moon came up at the sky that was orange-purple when Aya came, but now had an eerie green color. It had grown darker since she came. Aya sat slightly closer Xani or Rokor who was on the ground and slept quietly. She did not know what could come out of the forest now that it was gone closer to night. She laid down. The ground was hard. She missed the green grass at home in her garden. The green, freshly cut grass that was so soft.
A dark shadow flew across the sky. She got chills down her spine. Rokor opened an eye. "Hm?"
He opened his five last eyes. He looked at Aya that seemed a bit scared. He lifted his tail and moved it over to her. He curled it around her and pulled her a little closer to him. Xani also woke up. She looked at the others before she glanced up. Aya was warm inside and felt safer immediately. They slept all three close together.
Aya woke up that she felt something tapped her on the shoulder.
She opened her eyes and saw six orange eyes staring at her. She got scared till she saw that it was Rokor. He tapped her on the shoulder with the tip of the tail. "Did I scare you?" He laughed.
Xani looked at him, and stretched out her tail for Aya. Aya grabbed it and pulled himself up.
They continued to travel.
They came to an old bridge. But there was nothing under it. Aya noticed that the islands they walked on was flying in the air. Aya swallowed. "Me and Aya can go first." Xani said. She picked Aya up the tail and placed her on her gray back. Xani began to walk carefully. The bridge swayed a little, and Aya took firm hold of the hair of Xani. They made it safely across. Aya bounced off her back. Rokor stood there, a little worried.
He began to walk over. The bridge creaked and rocked and suddenly some wooden planks cracked as Rokor went over them.
He fell, but got time to take hold of the next plank with his front feet. He slid slowly and struggled to hold on. Xani jumped and panicked.
Aya looked at her before she ran back over the bridge. She took hold of one of Rokor their feet and started to pull him up. He slipped. His grip loosened and he fell. But Aya still held firm. He dangled there over nothing with Aya still holding his leg.
Xani recovered from her panicking and ran over to them. She curled her tail around the other foot of Rokor and they pulled him up together. He was shaking with fear. They got him over aswell, and he laid down on the ground when they were safely across.
"You ... You saved me." He raised his look and looked up at her. "You could have slipped, too. You shouldn't have saved me and risked your life."
"We have to stick together." she said.
Rokor stood up. He walked over to her and put his head on her shoulder. She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Thank you." he said quietly.
"Look at this." Xani tapped Aya on the shoulder. She turned around.
A huge castle built of dark bricks stood there in the middle of nowhere. The problem was that it was not on the island Aya and the dragons stood on, but it stood on a flying island. And there was no bridge that kept the two islands together.
"Why ... Does the island fly?" said Aya, and her legs began to shake.
"All the islands does. We have no ocean under our land - only air. The only thing that keeps the islands along the bridges. But it looks like Talon has removed the bridge between this island and his castle."
Aya looked around. She saw a creature that she had read about in a book at home. Griffin, they were called, though she could be wrong. She turned around.
"Should we take a chance and jump on a griffin?" she said.
Xani began to walk in circles nervously. Rokor looked around, afraid, until he tried to stick his head into the ground like an ostritch. He tapped his head to the ground hard, trying to burry it. "Ouch." he said. He seemed a little dizzy, but otherwise he was fine. Thought Aya.
"Well, ehm .. Is it such a good idea?" Xani said. Aya rolled her eyes.
"You want to save your friends or not?" Aya turned around, walked backwards, ran forwards and jumped off the island. She fell very quickly before she hit the back of a griffin.
It panicked and started to shake and squirm, but calmed down a little later. Aya took firm hold of the feathers on the eagle head while she sat well on its lion-back.
A little later she heard Xani and Rokor fall and hit the back of a griffin. They hung over the back of the creature and tried to stay on. The strange sight Aya got to laugh a tiny bit. She took better hold of the feathers of her griffin and steered it towards the castle.
Aya jumped off when she was close enough. She fell to the ground with a thud. She stood up again and saw that the dragons came along. They slipped off when they were over the ground of the island and fell down by the side of Aya. They walked towards the castle wall.
"How do we get in? And where are the others?" Rokor said, a bit nervous. Aya had not thought that far. She looked around for a way they could get in. She noticed that it grew some vines at the side of the wall.
"The gate is guarded well, I guess ... We can try to climb over the wall?"
Xani looked at Aya. She knew what she was thinking. "Okay."
Aya went to the dark brick wall and the vines. She took hold of the vines and climbed up. Xani and Rokor clawed their way upwards and after Aya.
They came up on the roof. There was a glass ceiling there. Rokor punched a hole in the glass with his tail so they could get in to the castle. Aya climbed down, closely followed by Rokor and Xani. The floor was as black as the wall that the castle was built of. The walls were covered with bookshelves that were packed with books and stuff. Probably wizard books.
Rokor went to the door and tried to push it up. "Locked." he said.
Xani ran into the door at full speed and knocked it down.
"See? Easy. No need to open it the actual way all the time."
They walked together into the hallway.
After a long while of walking, slapping the back of the heads of guards and Rokor's complaining they finally came down to the basement, where the other dragons were caught. A wooden door closed their cell. The door was black and was covered in purple magic that were shining.
"It is closed with magic, and we forgot to bring the key ..." Xani said, disappointed.
"Well, then we take it." Aya said. She knocked on the door. "Wait, we'll set you free!" she cried. But she should not have done that.
Talon went through the hall, a little worried about what had happened to all the guards. Their bodies was spread all over the floor. He muttered to himself before he heard a child's voice from the basement. He increased the pace and went to investigate.
Aya was scared when she heard the sound of feet walking. Rokor had disappeared for some reason, but where, Aya did not know. Xani swallowed nervously and looked around.
A tall man came into the room. He had black hair and brown eyes. He had a black mage robe and a black cape with some golden motives on it. He looked straight at the dragon and the girl who stood before him.
"A child." he said, his voice was dark and dangerous. "And a dragon. I thought I had caught all of your type." He laughed. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Talon, and I will capture you both today."
He pulled out a black stick and swung it around, and a purple cloud came to sight at the tip. He swung his stick, or wand, straight at Xani and the purple cloud came rushing towards her. Aya plunged forward and pushed Xani aside.
Talon was even more angry. He ran straight towards Aya, grabbed her shoulders and pushed her against the wall. "You are nothing. A speck of dust. It is pointless to even try to win." He took hold of her neck.
"I can destroy you if I just use a little more power. I can do it now if I want." he said, and laughed. "But I am not that mainstream."
He took hold of one of her shoulders, held her tight and lifted the wand. He was going to use magic on Aya when Rokor came running. He ran straight into Talon so he fell and lost his wand. Xani got hold of the wand and ran away with it. Rokor stood atop Talon.
"This is for my friends!" he said, roaring and stomped on the face of the Talon. Aya saw his key. She ran over to the dragon and the man, grabbed the key and ran to the wooden door down to the basement.
Talon grabbed the neck to Rokor and held tightly, as if he was about to choke the dragon. Aya was frightened, but sat down at the door and put the key in the keyhole and twisted about so the door opened. She could see many dragons in different colors in the basement that looked up to the light of above and Aya. "Thank you, girl." they said, and stormed out. They ran across the face of the Talon again. He lost hold of the neck of Rokor.
One of the dragons from the basement stopped, and slapped Talon in the face with his tail as he passed out. Aya grabbed him and dragged him away to the basement, where she let him down. She unlocked the door and put him into the basement before she ran with dragons.
They came back to where they met. "Thanks, Aya. We owe you so much, but we have so little." Xani said. Aya smiled. "It's fine. But I have a thing ..." she said.
Rokor nodded. "Yes?" he said. "Can you help me to get back to Earth?" Aya said. Rokor and Xani looked at eachother. "Of course."
They walked through the woods. The spirits were gone, they slept in peace now, finally.
They came to a tunnel in a mountain. It was dark in there and Aya could not see where the tunnel and the hole ended. "In there." Xani said. Aya went into the tunnel.
"You have to crawl through here. You know when you're back." Rokor said.
Aya went into the tunnel and crawled forward. She felt like she was falling, but not so fast it made her afraid.
Aya woke up in a hospital bed. Her mother stood by it. She took good hold of Aya and gave her a hug. "Oh, Aya. I'm so glad you're back. You've been in a coma for three days." she said.
Aya was glad to be back.
She thought it was a dream all that with Xani and Rokor. But it was so real?
She wondered if there was a planet named Shattrathk.
Far out in space, flew a purple-orange planet named Shattrathk had many happy dragons on them.
The dragons remembered all a little girl named Aya who had rescued them from captivity.
