This is the thread for the actual Gazette Issues. The two links below are for posting, NOT here. I Don't want Issues getting lost among comments. This is for CS Gazette issues ONLY! NO COMMENTS!

After getting a tip that the CS Gazette thread is hard to load sometimes, we decided to create a low loading/less images paper as well [starting with Nov], so that the users with weak internet can still read the paper!' Hope this helps everyone! <3

Monthly Pet Reviews

CalicoWolf and Several Members

Our annual all-staff litter! This year with contributions from: Shadow, Bernouli, Leurai, Ricorn, Tiikeria, Hekomi, moonlily, Fiery Gatoh, Sorren Fey, Pluma, Spotty, Orchid Sprig, Clowesia, Selcouth, Vampiric, Satamoru, Solloby, Tyr, Drizzle, Captain Kaycee, PitchBlack, Tragedae, and our retired staff member Moonflight!
Usually every month we do a review on the newborns, but with this months Staff Litter, I'm decided something a little different. I'm getting several people to do their own little opinion on one each of the staff pets, but I also asked what inspired each individual artist to create their own part. Not all Staff answered, but the ones that did, Please enjoy!

PitchBlack

Enyo:I actually find this one to be somewhat cute. I've heard some criticism that focuses on the rather... fatty appearance of the cheek fur as well as the tail fur, but, for once, I don't completely agree with just the downsides. In comparison to many other staff dogs, this one is actually quite simple-- and that works much into its favor. The spotted/speckled pattern on the dog's back and legs look quite nice, matching the generally simplistic color scheme very nicely, and I approve. Now, admitting that I actually like this outcome, I have to be honest and say that I do see where the complaints are coming from. The tail looks rather over-sized in proportion to the rest of the body, and the way the extra fur lies on the cheeks makes it look like the dog just got out of a bath (as does the fur on its rump, but not to as harsh of a degree). This dog is much simpler than many of the other outcomes from this staff litter, and that works both to its advantage as well as its disadvantage-- depending on which you compare it to. Overall, I'd give this staff dog a C, it's good, but the bad qualities, once pointed out, make it less cute to look at.

lucarioaura213 :Well...I think it is chubby, happy, and cute, and looks like it needs a playful owner. It also looks like it loves most people and gets overly excited, I guess. :)

Tiikeria wrote:Hello Calico,

Well to answer your questions, allow me to first quote myself from the Discussion thread:

I guess I was just going for a sleek version of the dog lines, since it seemed we had never really had a really sleek dog. The original idea was for him to be some kind of elemental wizard, but, I liked him best before the "magic" was added, so, I figured I would just go with a weary traveller/warrior.

As for what was the most fun? Definitely the design. Working with such a gorgeous color palate this year and having to create a design that could meet the expectations of CS users. The line edits were another fun, yet frustrating, part of the creation of "The Wanderer." There were so many different versions of his lines, before I finally settled on the one that we now see. Adding the cloak and the stick came next, and, finally, the arm bands.

I'm just really happy that a lot of people seem to really like my pup; it was a great reward for all the hard work put into it. It's worth it to see everyone enjoying it so much.

Tiikeria

ShadowingThunder101:Personally, I loved the edits on the dog. I thought it was kinda funny how we all suspected Bernouli of making this one until we learned its true artist, Tiikeria. ♥

My second favorite part of this dog is its clothing. <3 I really do love how she used a cape and a staff to make it look like a monk (or at least, that's what it looks like to me). <3

All in all, I'll be honest when I say that this isn't my most favorite dog of the litter, but I'd be lying if I had said that I didn't like it at all. <3

Fiery Gatoh wrote:My staff dog this year was created over a period of several weeks. At the time I was obsessed with The Avengers, so when the pallet we had to use turned out to be a mostly blue one, I thought it would be funny to make a Loki inspired dog. I also thought it would be interesting to see how well I could pull off a character inspired dog with my rather lousy artistic skills.

The extremely plain pup is supposed to signify just being a normal sort of kid. However, when the puppy grows up and he becomes resentful and jealous, the ice starts creeping in and begins to consume him. If you look closely at his right cheek, you can see lines where it has started to crystallise. The strange markings on his legs, back and eye are supposed to represent being a magic user, though the fact that they are filled with blue again shows how he has become corrupted.
Basically, blue = turning to the dark side. No prizes for figuring out why xD
Fiery Gatoh

Saccharine.:I think that particular dog is very simple, yet the colors and pattern
seem very sophisticated. It makes me think of a quiet, rainy day. ♥

CalicoWolf: Komi's dog seems very laid back and cool with some nerdy suave. I love the glasses, they good very well with the dog. :) The fluffy back edits were a nice touch.

Solloby wrote:My staff pup was inspired by a dragonfly. One of the fun parts was shading the tail.
The dog went through multiple colour variations before I decided on the one I was going with. The markings are loosely inspired by a tree. I wanted a fantasy feel to it, I hope I have achieved that. I thought of using the ears from my staff dog from last year, but I didn't like them as much so I made new ones that are more rounded and fluffy.
Solloby

CalicoWolf:The Dragonfly dog is simply beautiful. I feel as if its a fairies guardian. Very pretty and very protective.

Calicowolf:Moonflight and those etched ears. i love how she has kept that trademark in all her staff dogs. They are just so cool. The swirls go so well with the colours.

CalicoWolf:The earrings and tail bracelet is my favorite part of the dog. i want those earrings. I like the scarf as well. ;)

moonlily wrote:My inspiration for the design probably came from an old photo of some vines that I saw a long time ago that kind of stuck with me. I have always loved plants and flowers, and am enchanted by all things that grow. The other inspiration of the saluki dog is just something I was really just curious if I could pull off, as they are my favorite breed of dog. Probably the most fun or satisfying part was finally coming up with a tail that I liked and seemed to work, after my countless, countless re-drawings. XD Art doesn't come easily to me, and these line edits, while not as impressive as the staff members who can do truly amazing stuff, were actually really difficult for me, and I'm pretty pleased with how they came out. ^-^
moonlily

CalicoWolf:This was my second favorite staff dog this year. Instantly seeing it, I thought of the legends of Persephone coming up after the Winter and bringing life to the Earth again in Spring. She is simply breathtaking!

CalicoWolf:That tail. Oh, my that fluffy tail! The wisps around it are really fun. I know this dog is supposed to be ghost-y but for some reason, my brain outright denies the lighter lines.

Sheori:Again, another one of my top favs of this year's staff litter but more on the heavy edit side. When I saw this pup I knew something was going to come out of it, like pop off the dog. And I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I was right! I was taken away by Drizzle's art concept or of what I saw Drizzle do. To me I saw a canvas coming to live, like the dog was a flat elegant piece of art and how the line art design of the wings on it didn't just connect with the dog itself but the design. The design seems like the lines just flow freely off the page of this "canvas" as I have found myself calling it that. If not just the line art design but it reminded me of a butterfly when it first opens its wings, their wet textured, and a bit see-through, and just spreading out and that what it also remakes to me! :3

CalicoWolf :I love the lineart edits in the eyes. What’s with the levitating crown thing? It’s pretty, but I just don’t get it.

Tyr wrote:Since I've done a lot of mythical creatures for my past staff pets, I wanted to keep the theme. After pondering it for a bit, and seeing what the color palette was like, I thought that the blue and grey colors were perfect for a gryphon. I wanted to make it interesting, so played with the pose a bit to make it more "gryphon regal" (They're pretty vain creatures).

Designing pets in general is a lot of fun for me, but the line edits take the cake! I love love love doing line edits, and the staff litter is one litter that lets us go wild.

People usually see gryphons as big bulky hefty things, so I wanted to make mine a little more delicate. I gave it a smaller beak after my previous gryphon persona, and a big honkin beak just didn't look right to me. I always like to try to give users an option, and the smaller beak also allows them to cover it up with the larger store beak if they wanted. I know that the pose makes it a challenge to dress up, but everyone is so creative, that I have no doubt that users will find interesting ways to adorn their gryphons--I can't wait to see them!
Tyr

HJP: Oh.My.GOD !! The epicness of this pet is amazing ! The Pup was already pretty cute, with its little wing and glare, but the grow up ! The grow up !! The wing, the pose, the tail ! I must say it's one of my favorite pets from CS to this day ! It's practically a total custom of the pet, the front right paw, and the legs, and the tail, and the posture ! Omg i'm just one big fan ! I, personally, think it's one of the most impressive custom of cs for the moment ... Well, it's just me, but I'm a Big griffin fan, so i'm biased ...

ALL THAT JAZZ !:The detail in the second dog with the tentacles makes me want to learn how to do digital art as well as the artists here on CS do. XD

DragonLoverHere: One of the most unusual designs released was a clever dog fused with a moth by Sorren Fey. The designs on it were quite simple; nothing more than stripes and fading colors. What really excited people was its amazing line edits. The head and chest were designed to replicate that of a moth, with amazing accuracy and detail right to the tongue and feathered ‘antennae.’ Sadly, the head did deter some people from it. The design also has large majestic wings, the first moth wings on CS, which are simple yet set the design apart. To complete the beautiful design, Sorren Fey created a lovely backdrop accent to it, made of mist and moths. Believe it or not, but this is also the first CS dog without a tail! So many gorgeous and unique ideas made by the CS staff once again, but this one moth dog, I find, is one of the most creative designs yet in merging together two animals.

Sheori:This staff dog at first glance screams simple but beautiful! Truthfully I fell in love with this dog right away! The circles and dots complimented the line art of it. i feel that this dog helps to even out the new dramatic line art changes. To me, personally, this dog is in my top 5 favorites of the 23 staff pups released this year! also the use if the two different shades of blues, to me kinda symbolize maybe the sorrow that we all hide within ourselves even though we have smiles on out faces. as the dog does, the opened circles resemble water ripples to me of rain or tears falling maybe? while the closed circles are the actual rain drops or tears that are falling? i maybe overlooking this art edit but thats what i see and honestly, i relate and sympathize with the dog's "story" per-say that i see.

OrchidSprig wrote:There wasn't actaually any set inspiration for my dog. It was really just lucky chance. I wanted to do a pattern with dots just because I love how it looks, but I went in without a plan. As I started putting trails, I'd look at it and say 'Well, over here has too many and here isn't enough,' or 'This is completely off, it needs to be redone.' I wanted to use the browns somewhere, and then I had the inspiration to do socks on the forelegs. They looked out of place, so I added the tail band. The moon on the forehead was really the only 'planned' part of this dog. I love crescent moons on things, so I wanted it somewhere. Since I added a moon and the neck looked bare, I added a star necklace with it. My dog is really just chance and personal taste. xD The fluffy tail is because I almost did a 3-tailed dog, but I also was thinking about trying to do an edit. Then I realized I could use preexisting lines to make an edit, and that is how that happened. The most fun thing was probably making the tail band honestly. It was fairly easy and came out looking just how I wanted it to.
OrchidSprig

ALL THAT JAZZ ! The creativity of the staff never ceases to amaze me. This dog quickly became one of my favorites

Spotty wrote:Hi there,
Well, hyenas are my favourite animals and I've always wanted to see hyena-inspiered pets on CS, that has more of a hyena like anatomy. When I got my first chance at making a pet, of course I wanted to try to make my favourite animal. I didn't want to change to much on it, to be able to keep the original feel of the lineart and since I'm a beginner so I didnt't want to ruin it, so I made as few edits as I could. I know the design isn't very hyena like, but that wasn't what I was going for. At the same time as I wanted a hyena I also wanted to make something that was different (not just copy a real life pattern) and make the most of the colour palette.

Most fun? I suppose that must be just the novelty of pet designing^^. It's a lot harder than it seemed at first and very different from how I usually draw. Oh, and the little chock when I realized just how many copies that was actually adopted.
Spotty

AleraValerious:Its so cute <33 i love hyenas myself <33 and it reminds very good of one : ) the blue is little too light in my taste but its this year color pallet : D

i love the head of it and fluffy hair <3 : ) also the different bobtail is cute : ) i want more of the hyenas : ) all though it would be amazing get standing hyena :D

litle bit too much/too big spots in the back, but it doesent bother hugey still in second place in my favorites (as all other staff dogs)

I still quite hope there don't come too much more hyena line dogs since it makes it special maybe one normal coloured would be nice ;) or some random growths or litter but i would myself keep it as a rare and not so commonly seen <3

Ricorn wrote:It's not really inspired by anything. Just a long tailed dog with wings and a mowhawk <--for funzies. For the past two years, my staff pup had minimal to no edits so I wanted to try and go all out this year. The pose is suppose to be either sitting pretty or about to take off... your choice.

I think the most challenging were the front paws and trying to make it not look like it is praying. XD That and trying to make sure the back leg didn't look weird.

I'm actually really surprised a lot of people like it. My pets usually don't get much attention (but that could be because I am usually doing the less popular species (rats, spiders, bw) Lol) so I'm glad it was well received. ^u^~<3
Ricorn

DragonLoverHere: Among the gorgeous staff dogs this year, there was one that made even the cute resistant member say ‘aww.’ That’s right, this year Ricorn designed a little angelic dog that is irresistibly adorable to anyone who looks in its pretty blue eyes. Ricorn’s design makes its own spot in hearts with its cute standing pose, as though begging to be held and cuddled. A large, fluffy tail and hairdo make the dog look soft and sweet as anyone could like, which is complemented by its smooth rounded feather angelic wings. The design itself was a simple combo of color sectioning and fading with white speckling and striping added throughout. For a fact, I know this little fluff ball made a way to my heart with its design, and it made its way into many other members hearts this month. Among the mutated and the detailed, this dog holds a seat in any collection with a demand for cuteness, and will not be easily forgotten. In the future, let’s hope to see more amazing additions to the staff litters!

Satamoru wrote:The inspiration behind my dog was a water dragon. I wanted to tie it into my dog from last year, which was a unicorn; I've always put down dragons as the opposite of a unicorn, thus why I went with that particular species. However, we already had normal 'dragon' dogs, so I decided to also make it relate in a vague sort of way to Clowesia's dog, since our last years staff dogs were pretty similar. Since she had a tentacle monster dog, I settled on a water theme for my dragon. The funnest part of the design, as a whole, would no doubt be the shading. It's the first time I've ever tried that style of texture, and it was really fun to play with! :3
Satamoru

    HORSE||LOVER!!:yea thats cool,
    i would probs give it a 6 outta 10?
    maybe a 7.

Vampiric wrote:My staff dog is inspired by the words 'Forlorn Archangel'. This was actually my second design for my dog this year since I scrapped the first one, I was much happier with this one.

The pet is based on the idea of an archangel, with 4 wings of course. She/He is cast out and no longer part of the order, and is thus given shackles inscribed with words to prevent her/him using their powers. It is also the reason why the eyes have dulled to a lost, soulful blue, before the shackles they were blazing white as if on fire.

The other edits on the pet which include the mane, ears, tail and leg fur were all to make it look more flowing and majestic, and of course to blend in and make it a little prettier and unique. The muzzle is also slightly longer than normal though it's not so noticeable, I wanted it to have a more foxyish/sleek look.

I'm aware that it's hard to appreciate a pet design when you don't know the ideas behind it so I hope this goes some way to explaining why it looks the way it does.

The most fun I had was with the hair. As everyone knows I am quite partial to wig making, but I wanted something more blended into the dog as though it was actually her hair, and something non-symmetrical.. something that was a little more unique and had just a hint of dated-ness to it.
Vampiric

Toki&Bel [Bel]:Absolutely wonderful and fabulous dog, I was a big fan of 2 sets of wings on any creatures even before this outcome - so I was thrilled to have this dog aboard on CS! The simple designs and the beautiful hair is a big plus also. c; Definitely one of my favorites of the whole staff litter!

Bernouli wrote:I was inspired by certain anime and how they portray spirits or ghosts as simplistic wisp-like things. Despite popular belief I didn't get any ideas from Brave or Ao No Exorcist as I've not seen either. The hat and wings are loosely inspired by the Gothic style. I originally did not intend to have a ghost friend with him, but I wanted something else to accent the Gothic theme, so a ghost sounded like the perfect thing. It was the most fun to paint Blu, but I had the hardest time trying to get the top hat and wings too look stylized like I wanted them.
Bernouli

CalicoWolf:Claws <3 Ghost-friend. Epic Love! Those Wings are amazing!

Pluma wrote:I already started thinking about staff dog designs back in like... May. I wasn't quite sure of what to come up with, but then it hit me! Deer! I love deers, and would like to see one as a CS Pet. Though I knew my editing skills was way below what I could pull off, so I decided to give my dog some deer features, like the ears, antlers and so on. I considered to give it hooves, but I couldn't make them come off right without looking weird. So I just made markings that indicated hooves. As I continued working on it, it turned into more of a... Forest spirit kinda inspired design. That's what I'll like to see it as. It's not supposed to look like a specific animal as many have guessed. Just a mix of this and that, that I liked :3 Also the color scheme was to die for! Light Blue and white are my favorite colors~
Pluma

rainbownawhal: It seems a bit cluttered, however I really like the over all design. The horns add a nice nature touch. Really one of my more favorite of the 2012 staff litter. :D

Ricorn made me!

These little guys are really adorable and were made by Ricorn. The halo of light they seem to emit is reminiscent of the light of a star. And their blanket covered in cloud makes me think that these little guys have a kinship with the sky ... The question arises whether these kittens will grow wings to take off or will they simply represent the sky, like the Storm Litter from September 2011? It would be really fun to have cats with a sun at the end of their tail or a cloud above their head ... I wonder what they will become! ^^

hose cat are so funny. Awake, tired and sleeping Cat are some awesome line edit. While I did think it was a "time of the day" litter, the artist confirmed it has nothing to do with it ... Is it a hint that Ricorn is sleepy? xd Who know? But for me, it made my bed scream "come to meeee" ... So *yawn* I'm sleepy. If i must separate the little in 3, it'll go like this :
The awake cat (sky blue and yellow one). It's a dawn cat, with a pretty clouds on its tail. This little guy (girl ?) seems to just be barely awake. Perhaps the impression is coming from the color, but it just gives this feeling of "ruffling" you got when you just got out of bed ...

The sleeping cat (dark blue cat with sleepy eyes). It's the design from the kitty in grow up. The sky is nightly and full of star ... Here, the tail was almost erased, the effect being of a "tail of clouds. On the front pawn they are less cloud that on the awake cat, perhaps it's due to the night ? Who know the whims of an artist... Poor guy give me the impression of being dead tired, and wanting only to get to its bed ...

Oh mah ! it's a thunder cat! It's got freaking lightening on it!! I'm in love! I can hear it, I can smell the storm in the night! It's just precious. And there is no tail on this one, it was eaten away by the black cloud ! Somehow this kitty cat seems surprised, no ? Did it hear a thunder and it made him jump out of surprise ? ^^ Well, risking saying one more time the same thing : l. love. it ! ♥

I must say this litter is one of the best one i did see this year. Just saying Ricorn did some awesome job here. With the expression come the little "cumulus" that's sooo pretty ! It's the killing detail !

This butterfly wolf’s caterpillar form is adorable. The blue’s in this set is gorgeous, especially the royal blue, one thing I saw is that the small red dots on it were not on one of the adult forms, yet both adults did have some red in them, but only one with the dots. And the white stripes were not incorporated either making the outcomes of this surprising.

The first design in this set is beautiful with its royal blue colours and the see-through wings. The design reminds me of the galaxy dogs, like Ricorn took the colours from the galaxies and put them on these butterfly wolves which I really like because I love the galaxy dogs and was wondering when they would use the galaxy idea again. I love the blue and red colours together because they go very well together and are very warm colours.
This is the one with the red dots, like the caterpillar form, there is more light blue in this outcome than the other, yet they still have the same wings, and also have some blue dots which the caterpillar form did not have, the orange on the paws of this butterfly wolf are very cool, this one still reminds me of a galaxy because of the colours and the slight shiny look of it, almost like it is a statue.

Leurai made me!
I really like the 1st stage of this butterfly wolf set. It’s really cheery looking, and this is one of the first times we’ve seen neon colours incorporated into a butterfly wolf- which is pretty cool. I feel like it makes sense to be a November outcome because it cheers us up. Even Though people may say November is one of the dreariest seasons, how could you not be cheered up seeing the bright colours on a snowy, cold day in November while you are curled up by your fireplace?

The first outcome of this litter is interesting and very different from its other kin. I love that the blue colours are not as vibrant as the other two outcomes. It’s not as focused on the neon colours like the others, which I really like. There are also more stripes in this outcome, which is something that all 3 of the outcomes share. When looking at the wings, it reminds me of the 2nd outcome’s colours on its coat. The orange colours on the front part of the butterfly wolf looks like armor which I find really creative.
This butterfly wolf is absolutely amazing. The colours are vibrant, eye-catching and there are neon colours, but they still incorporated some fall colours- giving it a ‘fall’ feel . The purple and green wings are really neat with the sparkle-looking element . I like how they utilized stripes within the tail and neck of the wolf, and even some on the face give more edge to the design. If the stripes had not been there, it probably would have been more of a softer design, which I feel to be more of a late winter\early spring mix. When looking at the wings, they remind me of the 1st outcome.
What I like about the third outcome of the November butterfly wolf set is that this one looks like they took the colours in the 1st outcome and 2nd outcome and mixed the colours to create this pattern. It’s like it’s kin in colour, but incorporates more enhanced colours and pattern. It brings its own uniqueness to end off the Nov. set with a surprising turn, which is something that I don’t think we saw coming. It made the month’s set even better, and I’m sure will be very popular for a long time to come.

Fascinating choice of colors by Tyr. All of the shades look really nice together. I like the little spots of white on the pale purple too. They look gentle and not sharp or gaudy at all. I also like how the hooves and mane stand out, a detail so often forgotten in the horses and ponies. A lot of thought was put into this design, and, no doubt, into the adult designs that we’ll see later.

Though nothing unexpected came out of this set of horses, I’m feeling far from disappointed. Each horse shares a similar color scheme, which looks fabulous on every outcome. The stand out mane and hooves, while not contrasting with the main body, look great and make a big difference. The patterns are so artistic on each and every horse, and I can tell how much effort was put into this bunch. Good job, Tyr!

Ah! Line edits! A rare treat with ponies. I’m really glad that Leurai pulled these ones off so well. They could be a number of things, deer, sheep or goats are just a few guesses. I absolutely adore the soft, natural shades of brown, with enough detail to be interesting and pleasing to look at. Whats this? An extreme PPS? This was a unique surprise for everyone who found that they adopted a baby snow-white foal! While the PPS doesn’t seem to be very rare, it was nonetheless exciting for every pony lover! As for the little brown foals, I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for these cuties to grow and reveal their secrets.

What cute goats! I’d just like to say thank you to the artist for such fantastic ponies! The eyes are a small, but very noticeable edit and look fantastic! I love how each eye color stands out from the main body of the pet. The curled horns look great, and also have contrasting colors, and the short tails look refreshingly different from the usual pony tails. The shades of fur on the bodies looks as great as in the baby stage, and each goat has their own different pattern. What a fantastic month for ponies it’s been!

Toys for dogs? These little rats have a plastic effect that only miss the "squeak" that make these toys when dogs or cats’ teeth close on it ... If I had to make a prediction, I'd say it will be either plastic rat or rats in leather suit xD ... Well, it’s just my thought ^ ^

Well, the babies were plain (and my awesome prediction was soooo off ! T-T) but the adults are not so plain anymore. Those subtle color "magnetic" are really nice. Give a "colored grunge" effect that is good for the eyes. Personally not one of my favorite rat, but some people seem to love it, by what I gathered on the November Discussion Thread. If I must choose a favorite, I will say the orange one because the explosion is the nicest on this one.

I'm a huge fan of spiders and I have to say, I will miss them! I hope this litter will be a good litter. The colours/theme already look amazing together. I love the Purple/Blue hues...

Both outcomes are beautiful! Ricorn said that the spiders were based off of circus tents, which I don't quite see, but I've never been to a real circus... I love the blue, green and pink colours. If these really are the last spiders, they are very nice and as I said earlier, I will really miss them.

This pair were bred by Leurai !
2nd Gen Newborns
This month's litter has 4 outcomes in the litter. Two of the babies look very similar to each other but one has stripes of the blanket. On each the blankets you see fading colors, spots, and the o with the strike through it on there. These pups seem to have a good mix between both parents and will make some amazing dogs.
2nd Gen Adults
All the Pups have become dogs and they are absolutely exquisite. The dogs either have a brown or grey base and each has some kind of jewelry. Each dog has spots scattered across it's back and most have them on their ankles. The first two outcomes seem to resemble the pink salmon parent more than the null bobtail. I was surprised to see the PPS was the only one with Ø in it's design. Each dog has its front legs a different color then the base color and all the dogs have bobbed tails except for the second outcome. Over all they are a nice mix of both. The artist Leurai did a great job at taking both these dogs designs and putting them together with these pets. The way she fades together the colors and the layering of the radiant reds, oranges, and yellows on dull grays and browns. Chicken Smoothie has a new litter to be proud of and Laurai's effort really shows through in this litter.

The grow-able horses of Chicken Smoothie were first created July of 2009. This horse looks like a regular horse that you'd see on a farm/ranch the only thing that you might not see on a horse is a multicolored tail, mane and greenish eyes. These horses are much different than the ones that we have now. This horse isn't a special themed kind just a regular every month pet. This type of horse went 'extinct' November of 2010. The new type of horse was created December of 2010. The first litter was created by Yulnyh. The new type of horse look like a horse or colt prancing around a field after winning a fight or something.

Various artists colour the horses now. Though it doesn't matter who draws or colours the horse because we still appreciate there help and the horses are still well done. Hopefully we'll see a bunch of new horses in the near future.

MissShadowHunter wrote:Oh uh... Well they are nice this month, but I prefer the natural colours. The browns though are a nice, warm neutral base and the soft round patterns are wonderful.

Ardelis wrote:Hmm okay heh. Well I definitely love horses. I've been riding since I was 6 and working at stables for about 5 or 6 years. I find them to be highly intelligent animals with big hearts, always willing to do what they can for those who show them love and respect. Umm yea, I don't really know what else to day haha. Hope that was what you were looking for/helped? :)

Shadow: What is your opinion on the horses?
Bernouli: hope you mean the horses in general and not just this month's horses? D: Well, I like them more than the last ones as those had strange eyes. These ones though look good, with nice friendly eyes and the anatomy is pretty spot on.

Shadow: Do you have a favorite horse artist?
Bernouli: I don't know many horse artists to be honest, so I'm gonna have to go with our own Yulynh on this one.

Shadow: Do you have a favorite horse?
Bernouli: My favorite horse is this one: V-Day PPS Horse Gotta love those teeny wings.

forestostrander: What was your current favorite Halloween pet?
Moonlily: It's very, very hard to choose a favorite Halloween pet, as there are just several that make me keep going back to stare at them some more. But since I'm a die hard tree hugger and moon lover, I will have to go with the Moon Banner Dog. Plus, the fable "The Moon" that Selcouth related to go along with this dog was really enchanting.
forestostrander: If you could change your rank on CS what would you prefer?
    Moonlily: Browncoat. ;)
forestostrander: What is your favorite fursona?
Moonlily: I guess I would have to pick my own. 8-)
forestostrander: Do you love to draw on CS?
Moonlily: I've done almost no drawing on the Oekaki. I don't have much time to use it, and the program is not kind to me. I'm not a natural artist, either, so it takes me a long time to create anything. : \ I sure admire the people who create awesome artwork over there, though. ^_^
forestostrander: If you could meet your most favorite movie star who would it be and why? (I know it may sound random but I would love to meet Taylor Swift)
Moonlily: I think the actor I would be most excited about meeting is Nathan Fillion. Firefly is just about my most favorite TV show ever made, and I loved watching him create the character of Mal. He seems like such an awesome, funny, and down to earth guy in real life, I bet it would be super entertaining to meet him for real. Hubby and I have tremendous respect for him as an actor (in fact, we almost gave our third child 'Fillion' for a middle name XD ), and I wish him the very best of luck in his acting career.
forestostrander: Out of your entire pet collection here on CS, which is your most favorite pet?
Moonlily: Well, naturally, I would pick my custom. ^_^ But in fairness, my most favorite non-custom pet on CS would have to be this one:
    2011 Staff Dog
Maybe it's a taaad hubristic to pick a pet I colored myself, but I am NOT a natural artist, so I was pretty darn proud of this creation. XD It still gives me a little thrill whenever I see other people post this dog as being one that they like or wanting to hoard. ^-^
forestostrander: If you could have the power to control the weather, would you have stopped hurricane Sandy from hitting?
Moonlily: Absolutely, I would. Hurricanes are no joking matter, and I sincerely hope for the safety of everyone that is touched, not only by Hurricane Sandy, but by any natural disaster.
forestostrander: What made you want to be a moderator?
Moonlily: What it really boiled down to was a strong desire to be useful, a way to give back to and support the site I had fallen completely in love with. I've never stuck with another site or another game for so long, and I wanted to do what I could to support and sustain it.
forestostrander: Did you expect it to be how you imagined?
Moonlily: It pretty much was, actually. The job description was very thorough and accurate, and there were no surprises that first day.
forestostrander: If you could change one thing on CS what would it be?
Moonlily: This is a tough question, because there's so many things about this site I already adore. I suppose I would say that I really, REALLY miss the old tan layout, and wish we had a layout with those sandy + avian colors once again.
forestostrander: Do you guys have meetings like other websites on what you are going to do?
Moonlily: I'm not quite sure what you mean by meetings, but we do have discussion threads in the staff area pertaining to upcoming events. The staff really work hard months in advance to create some really amazing things for you guys. ^_^
forestostrander: What do you find the most challenging of your position?
Moonlily: Actually, I've found it incredibly difficult to actually find the time to really play anymore. I used to stalk the trading threads and auctions, and was a pretty active and savvy trader. Since becoming a mod, though, when I do have the time to be on CS, I feel the need to spend my time contributing to the mod workload, and there's just never enough time left over to really focus on trading or playing. It can be frustrating at time, but I definitely don't regret taking on the position.

Item Review

Enyo.
Well, that was certainly an eventful Halloween event. We got some pretty nice items out of it, and a lot of them aren't even heavily Halloween centralized (which you should know I love by this point). Okay, we have a lot of items to get through this time around-- and here we go. Also, please note: I am going through these items as they appear in the Halloween item listing when decorating a pets, not by the release dates.

Tokens
I'd provide a picture, but there's already going to be a lot of space taken up here, and we all know what they look like. A tiny bat, a tiny pumpkin, and an orange lollipop. There isn't really anything special about these tokens, they're
small items that function as currency. normally I would say they could function as candy, but only the lollipop really pertains to that. Again, the tokens are basic, nothing too special
ImageImage

or terrible.

Bat Plushies
The blue aura bat is cute, as is the reaper, but I really wish there had been outcomes of these for each of the bat outcomes. These were the last items i picked up from the event, and it was only because I had everything else already. They're really nothing special, in my honest opinion.

Viking Sets
Here we received a viking coat or dress, a female or male helmet, and a shield or a hammer. Let's face it, if you got the one set, your most likely got the other. They're either female
ImageImageImage
ImageImageImage
or male centralized depending on which set you got. Personally, the highlight of this set is definitely the coat/dress. Really, these fur outfits are great-- and I got a few sets of each version simply for the coats. The helmets tend to fall a bit flat; they're fitting on a pet is rather awkward, and the hair always seemed too dimensional, making the standard pet's facial features appear rather flattened. The (ban)hammer is nice, but it seems a bit clunky when placed in the jaw as it is supposed to go, even for a hammer. The shield is nice, but it suffers from the same shading/dimensional problems as I mentioned with the helmets.

Vampire Sets
The store vampire set still provided a better look.
I know, I know-- people like this set, mostly the female one, but it's true. The male vampire outfit looks rather awkward on a pet and both fang sets give more of the impression of an old man than of a bloodsucker. It's the size of the fangs-- they're just too small. The female's dress is nice, though, and the hair/fan combination provides a nice look overall. It's the male version that drags this set down, it just doesn't look proper for a vampire, more like a posh count. Plus, the male wig just looks terrible.

Fleas
Image
All I can think of here is the Black Plague. Seriously, that is it. And since I don't find that very funny... I'm just not fond of this set. There isn't really much use for it unless you use the items as a full set. Plus, the rat is just a bit cute, not much. My feeling
ImageImage

s are short for this one.

Sky Set
This is by far my favorite out of the entire event items bunch. I'm not even kidding when I tell you all that I got nine sets of this. The clouds look amazing, the bats are a nice alternative to the separate bats from the past year, the moon is small but very lovely with that glow... it's just a great set. Really, this set seems like it's a the same level of quality as the lunar set in the store-- just with a smaller moon and no jewelry. This set can be used year round-- and I hope to see even more amazing dress-ups with it into the far future. The highlight of the event items, bar none.

Eggs and Toilet Paper
Vandalism isn't cool, man. No more to say for these Devil's Night item sets.

Witch Doctor
I actually like this set. Despite what I thought when I first got it-- the skull headset actually fits very nicely on dogs-- and a lot of other pets for that matter. The bands for both legs and tail fit very snugly and can be used on other pets as well with creativity. The skull necklace does look a bit awkward due to its shading, but that's only minor compared to some other shading issues on latter items. A simple set from early on, but it gets an A.

Eyes
Finally, some new eye edits. What did we get? Eerie black, snake eyes, crazed green, high red...
Oh, only I refer to that color as "high" red. Nevermind.
ImageImage
ImageImage

Overall, I'm not as big of a fan of these eyes as I am still of the slanted eyes from last year. These sets are just harder to match with dogs-- and only the black and green can really blend in properly with anything. They're nice, but they do fall short in comparison to the slanted eyes of last year (which also came in a much wider variety of colors).

Ivy and Pu
ImageImageImage
mpkins

The ivy seems more of a summer thing, or is that just me? Whatever the case, I really do like the ivy, and the bulk amount I have on them now is proof enough of that. The vines are very nice little touches for various scenes (try pairing them with the gravestones from a past year, it looks great). The pumpkins? Eh... I like them somewhat, but it looks like someone sucker punched the "twisted" one.

Enyo Note: As I've been writing this my Celtic dog has slowly been covered in everything-- hits with eggs, a pumpkin on their foot, "high" eyes... she's a mess, the poor thing.

Dress and Accessories.
They don't look right. The outlines o
ImageImage
ImageImageImage
n the socks are just too thick, and the way the dresses are both outlines and shaded makes them stand out way too much on a pet. They look awful whenever I try to use them-- it looks like my dog has a sticker of a dress across half of its body. The collars look somewhat normal but that's only because they're smaller and less pronounced. The pins do, however, look nice-- but they're the only redeeming feature of this set.

Witch Set
The shadow on the hat looks awkward-- that accompanied with the shape of the dress makes me dislike this set. The set from the store is better-- just like with the vampire set previously mentioned.

Omi Set
Eh. It's okay. Again, we end with nothing that spectacular. I noticed that a lot of people liked this item set when the event first started-- but I never see it used anymore. The only upside is that my pets now have a club to threaten their enemies with. Oh, and that red mark on the mask? It looks awful and doesn't flow with the rest of the set. Just throwing that out there. [Note: Omi set is not pictured due to the absolute size of the images.]

Jackolope Store Bunnies
To read the review on the Oct-Nov Jackolope Store Bunnies, Go Here.

Verdana wrote:Hi there! Really? This is so exciting 0w0
I think that the Jackalope bunnies are really quite lovely. It's always nice to see other species appearing in the store, and bunnies are always exciting, since they usually only get released during events!
Plus, their little horns are so cute!

Takora Drakan wrote:I am personally not that fussed about them. Bunnies are not my favorite animals, but regardless I like their natural colors on them and the nod towards the mythical jackalope legends.
Though it was nice that we got a different store pet species, the cycle between dog and horse store pets was getting quite boring, there are so many other species out that would make great store pets, like cats or butterfly wolves.

The Wolf Charm wrote:Well, I haven't seen them very often, so I can't say much, but as far as I've seen these guys are amazing. I particularly like the one with little white freckles. It's so cute. As the collection are store pets, I think they could have done with one more bunny to top it all off, but they're so cute already I'm not to sure they need it!

The Eternal Flame wrote:They're cool if you can afford chicken dollars and buy them.

InterfectorFactory wrote:I think they're cute and original. You don't see many Jackalopes and this outcome helps them gain some awareness.

B l a c k R a v e n wrote:Oh... Um, Well I find them quite strange and unusual, but I really love that about them. They also have lovely color patterns, and natural seeming designs. Mixing them all together was an amazing idea so all up I think they’re a really nice pet!

Carbon wrote:I think that they are very cute. I love their big ears, the cord wrapped around their tail, and the inquisitive look about them.

Chicken Smoothie Mall
By Christmas Time
Click here to see the Items in the CS Mall
Did you get your CS black Friday shopping on? Tess, our wonderful administrator, opened up shop on Friday to us mad men (and women) who wanted some Chicken Smoothie goodies for the holidays. Unfortunately, they were not prepared for all the sales and suddenly, everything was out of stock. Sounds like Walmart to me! Featuring key chains to buttons, this was the best CS shop we have ever seen. We went and asked some of our fellow Chickensmoothians on their opinions of the shop.

||Beep Beep Meow|| wrote:Well, I think the CS mall is a great way for people to get items from the convention they missed, so overall, it is a wonderful idea. Grant it, some people may get sad their parents wont let them get the items, but it is still a wonderful contribution to cS.

Milkyway0353 wrote:Hullo. ^-^
My thoughts on the cs mall? Hmm. I think it's a brilliant idea. This way the fans of chickensmoothie gets merchandise at a fair price, and the website earns more money, the more money the site has, the better the site can be. From keychains to stickers, and items being sold out within the day, I feel it's highly successful. Personally, I can't wait for plushies, I might need to order one. ;o; I also love the idea of giveaways, as not all members of chickensmoothie can afford the items. But I do think we need a wider variety of merchandise, such as squiddy hats, and totoro plushies. That would be the most adorable thing ever. <3

savannah. wrote:I guess it's cool and stuff? The products look really high quality and I'm impressed by how quickly they sold out.

Refuse to Sink. wrote:Well, I think it's a great idea that we can buy CS products without having to win them in a contest or travel the world to get them. They don't have a huge selection, but I think it's great Tess works so hard on these. The down side is that some people will be sleeping or won't be online when the CS mall opens.I think it's a great idea for maybe once or twice a year around the holidays.

CalicoWolf: What is this pet special to you?
Ecto: The pastel colors and the design just made me think of my beloved sister, its design is like a butterfly, and before Sian passed away i knitted her a little butterfly badge and put it in her coffin to help her fly gently up to heaven c':

CalicoWolf: What gave you the idea for this dress up?
Ecto: Well,I'm not quit sure,i just felt i needed to express my feelings somehow so i dressed up a pet for my sis<3

Character Spotlight

Interviewing Fluttershy ♥ , about their character Patriot!

Patriot

Patriot is very pretty, yet simple the same, What inspired her looks? Quirks?
Fluttershy ♥: Patriot was inspired by Veterans day, I just felt like I needed to create something in their honor. So that's when I made Patriot ^^

What's her personality?
Fluttershy ♥: She is a hardcore American and will do anything for her country.

Anything particular you like about her??
Fluttershy ♥:I love her tail! I just thought it really fit her personality and I just love lion tails.

Anything else we need or should know about Patriot?
Fluttershy ♥:She is a new character so she isn't very developed, if that's okay. ^^

Art Res-Husky did of Patriot

'Sona Spotlight
Interviewing Violenca , about their sona Saishi!

Saishi

So, tell me a bit about your fursona, Saishi. What's he like?
Violenca: Well he is a smart boy. He loves to read books. The most he read books about the Stars and Fantasy Books. He's a little bit sadistic. That means he likes it if Lilly (That's his Girlfriend) nibbles at his ear and things like this. He is a little Otaku. He loves Japan with all he got. He loves the food (Especially Sushi), the people there, Cosplays, the Traditions and so on. But the most thing he like is Lily. Well no he don't like her he loves her. He's so happy to got her. Maybe they'll have pubs one day ? We'll see ;)

How did they come about?
    Violenca: Well the true story?
I've been playing a game and i accidentally clicked on a banner and found a page, where you can create People, Cats, Dogs, Ponies and even Dragons. And i have to say i just Love Dragons and even wolfs. So i just created one. And i loved the design so much that i just said to myself: Okay this will be my fursona *-* (It was the time where i found out what a Fursona is ;D) The only Problem was that i also love Wolfs. So i just said okay he can change between a Wolf and a Dragon with his amulet.
That's the true story behind Saishi xD

How do they represent you?
Violenca: Well i think diffrent shades of orange represents the warm side in me. And the Dark body colour is the Dark side in me. So the Dark side is overloaded ;D Because there is much of it. But that doesn't mean i'm a bad person xD It just mean i have cookies and i want you to follow me >:D

Featured CS Pet Pair
XXXXXX
Oh love, my love
I'll stay for my love alone.
Through pain and sorrow, grief and strife,
bruises and breaks and the dullest knife;
Oh love, my love
I'll stay for my love alone...
And alone is my love, oh love,
With naught but a ghost at my tomb.

CalicoWolf: Is there more story/part to this pairing?
.a l o u e t t e. : There is a bit more to their story, but I haven't been able to find the muse to write it as of yet. I hope to get around to it soon...

CalicoWolf: How did the story/theme come about?
.a l o u e t t e. :My stories always tend to be more on the depressing side, so Vampy's staff dog just helped jump my muse a bit. It just fit so nicely.

CalicoWolf: Why did you pick those particular pets?
.a l o u e t t e. :There wasn't really a 'reason' per say; the Raven is one of my favorite pets on the site, and Vampy's staff offered a boost to my muse-it's purely good fortune that I liked how they looked together. cx

CalicoWolf: What inspired you to make an art shop?
Cerestes: I love art so much, but it seems so much better when you are making art for other people, lol. I always lose my muse when it comes to my own and since I adore CS Pets, an art shop here was the perfect option!

CalicoWolf: Why Plushies?
Cerestes: I actually got the idea because I was considering making a REAL plushie, but I knew it would be too much work if I planned on offering them to others. Pixel plushies was the next best thing, and I love seeing them come to life when I add a characters' specific edits to the linearts!

CalicoWolf: I've noticed you have became pretty popular, did you think they would take off like they have?
Cerestes: I had no idea the plushies would be so popular, lol. I originally only made a wolf base, and then the kitty for laughs, and then I realized I needed a wider range of species to keep up with all of these wonderful character designs.

CalicoWolf: Anything new coming in the future?
Cerestes: While it doesn't have anything to do with plushies, I *might* have another fake pet store in the works... e.e

CalicoWolf: Anything else you would like to add about your shop?
Cerestes: I am extremely thankful to the wonderful people here on CS, because without them, I wouldn't have this shop in the first place <3

CalicoWolf: Heres what Runy Starr and Briar Rose have to say about Cerestes's CS Beanie Babies.
Runy Starr: Well, I'm a close friend of Cerestes so of course I love all of her art. It was wonderful to see her come back from hiatus and go right back to art. She works pretty fast, I tend to get plushies I order within a few days and her prices are perfect for what she's offering, though, you do have to mention to her if your pet's on the rares list or not. Cerestes has been busy lately, though plenty of people help out with modding the thread, which is useful considering plenty of people order without bankslots when she's closed.

Briar Rose: Cerestes is a really friendly and easy to work with shop owner. She has a fast work period, many (if not all) of my orders were completed within a few hours of ordering. She's willing to make any edits in order for your character to properly fit of the lines, for low to no cost. She's really easy to ask about mistakes or edits. She corrects and makes changes without yelling or screaming which is different from some users. Overall, Cerestes is one of the best shop owners on CS.

CalicoWolf: Here is what I have to say about Cerestes Shop:
CalicoWolf: I have known Cerestes for quite some time, back whens he was The Donut Master. I love her art and when I saw wolf beanies I was hooked. Shortly after I ordered my characters [Examples below], she came out with several more bases. She currently has eight in all; Canine, Feline, Rat, Horse, Rabbit, Dragon, Bird and Hamster! When I ordered, she was looking for items, but even that items are no longer a payment option, her prices are still cheap enough, that i think Cerestes art is well worth the prices. Here are a few of my [examples of art] which I have ordered from her...

Featured Oekaki Work

The Magic of Autumn

CalicoWolf: Is there any story or description that goes with the drawing?
Gravity Falls:Well, as for a story, I can tell you this: It was last Tuesday, and our Science Fair project was due. I, of course, knew that it would be three major evaluations, so I decided to work very hard. But my partner? Well, he didn't feel the same way. And I began to draw, not out of boredom, but as a way to try to hold the tears of utter disappointment back... And it turned into a picture that I wanted to help get my spirits, and the spirits of others, up.

CalicoWolf: What inspired the drawing?
Gravity Falls:Failure, to be completely honest. I let everyone down and needed to get it out.

CalicoWolf: Anything Else?
Gravity Falls: You have no idea how much I appreciate this. It made me smile, which I haven't done in a little over a week.

Image

How did you find ChickenSmoothie?
Satamoru: It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure my first experience of CS was one of the dogs in a persons Neopets signature(so, so many years ago). At first I was just a 'on-and-off' user, adopting one of each dog but not really sticking around. It wasn't until the first Advent Calender that I really hopped on board and made myself an account; I've been an avid player ever since.

WolfWarriorCatz: A friend registered on here and decided to check it out and register.

Who do you look up to on here?
Satamoru: Oh man, that's a really hard one. I do have a lingering awe for Clowesia, who years back went by the name 'Eh tu, Brute?' - I really looked up to her back then and was always excited to read her posts. It wasn't until after befriending her recently as Clowesia that I even knew they were the same person, and the early respect hasn't really faded. And of course I look up to the more experienced staff members. But that's sort of a given I suppose.

    WolfWarriorCatz: IDK yet o3o

What was your favorite pet/item(s) released this month?
Satamoru: My favorite pet is hands down is Pluma's staff dog. Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge sucker for antlered creatures; deer or otherwise. In close second is Ricorn's staff dog.

    WolfWarriorCatz: Either
This or This (which is funny cause at first I didn't like this one)

What is your favorite part/s of CS?
Satamoru: Definitely the art forums; I'm not much of an artist myself, but I really do enjoy seeing what other artists produce. It really helps inspire me to actually make an effort in art, and whenever I need inspiration that's the place to go.

WolfWarriorCatz: The pets of course (not the most social forum person)

On a scale of 1 – 10, (10 being the best) what would you rate this month on CS?
Satamoru: 10/10. Hurhur. Honestly, I'd rate it maybe 8/10? It's been surprisingly quiet this month, minus the staff litter - everyone's focus has seemed pretty straightforward on that front. The whole trollvember mess was a blast though x3

    WolfWarriorCatz: 8/10
