Recap~
Midna goes with her parents to the park for the first time as a baby. *inserts 'aww' moment here* And basically meets her future two best friends for life, Mango and Paranoia. Now without further adieu
Instead she focused on getting to know this new person.
"Hi! I'm Midna and I'm a gypsy!" The little JBD announced proudly but the other female cocked her head to the side confused. "What's that?" She asked Midna, and at the question Midna shrugged, not knowing what a Gypsy was herself. All she knew was that she was a gypsy. "I dunno, but it's what I am!" The older female looked interested for a moment as she stood there before she looked around as though making sure now one else around could hear her and then she turned back to Midna with a grin."Well I'm no Gypsy! I'm a Captain Paranoia, Queen of the seven Seas and I'm lookin' for treasure," she whispered and Midna's eyes widened.
"How ya gonna find it?" Midna asked.
"Treasure map of course. All the good Captains carry those. Say...you wanna go Treasure huntin with me? Havin a Gapsy, might be useful to finding it and I'll even share." Paranoia offered, though Midna frowned lightly.
"First of all it's Gypsy and I-I don't know if I can. My mama and papa said to stay in the playground."
Paranoia snorted at that however and rolled her eyes.
"Aww c'mon now Midna. Don't tell me you're sca-aredy cat!" She teased and Midna puffed up at that. She wasn't about to be called a scardey cat by nobody!
"I'm not scared of nothin'!" She lied, and even though her mother told her not to lie she sure wasn't about to let this female know she was. "I'll go with ya on this treasure hunt, but we gotta stay in the park," She stated firmly and though Paranoia had actually been hoping to go a little farther, she knew this was as good as it was gonna get, so she smirked and nodded. "Deal! Now c'mon let's go!"
With that being said, Paranoia jumped out from the sandbox and ran off towards the trees. Glancing around to make sure no one else was watching them, Midna hesitated for only a moment before bounding after her. Had both paid careful attention, they might have spotted the flash yellow that followed after them.
Though at first she'd been reserved to this kind of thing, Midna couldn't help but smile as she found herself enjoying the feel of soft Spring grass under her paws, or the warm feel of the sun on her back. So she's surprised when Paranoia stops so suddenly that the younger JBD almost runs into her.
"H-hey! What's the hold up?" She asked, but Paranoia shushed her loudly before pointing at something in front of them with her paw. "That's the hold up, Middie. There be other pirates lookin' for our treasure, Arg!" Midna's ears perked up and she looked around, but she couldn't see the pirates that Paranoia was claiming were there. "Well where are they?" she asked softly, her red eyes looking around for the 'pirates'. "I can't see 'em." Paranoia smiled then and gently nudged Midna's muzzle. "C'mon now they're right there. See? They're big, and dumb-lookin' and one walks with a peg leg. The other has an eye patch and another, the Captain I'm guessin, is wearing a large feather hat!" Perhaps it was how Paranoia described them, but as Midna stared at the spot where the pirates were supposed to be, she began to imagine there were pirates pirates there after all, exactly the way the dark JBD had described them.
"Oh!I see em now, Captain! But what'll we do?" Midna asked her new friend. Paranoia 'hmmm'ed for a moment thinking before her eyes brightened as an idea came to mind. "I know what to do. You distract 'em, Middie and when they come after you, I'll slice em with this sword!" That being said the older female produced a large gnarly branch from behind her, that Midna had certainly not seen before. Deciding not to question that however, Midna nodded. The plan seemed legit to her.
"Alright, but don't wait too long. If you do those pirates will be sure to get me!" Paranoia rolled her eyes but nodded. "Don't worry I won't let 'em get ya. You just make sure ya run fast." Midna nodded and then gulped. Turning back to the imaginary pirates she squared her shoulders and ran straight towards them before whipping around and bounding away and those 'pirates' followed her, with a 'sword' swinging Paranoia on their heels. To a passerby this scene looked as though the older JBD were trying to swing that branch onto Midna's head, but both children knew that wasn't the case.
Eventually, after running around both got tired and left those pirates alone to go find the treasure. They padded towards the shadiest spot in the park to cool down after all that running and that just so happened to be right next to a pond. Upon seeing the crystal blue water, Midna squee'd and then raced down to the shore and dipped her paws in. A purr sounded from the young one's throat as she decided to wade through the water. The water from the shore came about halfway to her belly fur, not that the female minded. In fact the water felt so good, Midna wouldn't have minded if she'd been splashed with it.
A low grumble came from the tree nearby however that reminded Midna that she was not alone, and she looked up expectantly at Paranoia who was eying the water with apprehension. "What's the matter Captain? Aren't ya gonna jump in too?" But the dark female shook her head rapidly and it was then that Midna noticed the female was indeed apprehensive. She kept watching the water as though she expected something to jump out and grab her. Confused by her friend's strange, or rather stranger than usual, behavior Midna climbed out of the cooling water and shook out her fur. Paranoia hissed in displeasure and Midna looked at her confusedly.
"Paranoia, what's wrong?" She asked feeling concerned for her friend. She had no idea what was wrong with the girl, but the way she gazed at the water let Midna know something was wrong for real. And not at all having to do with pirates.
Midna watched the way Paranoia's fur, once so smooth, began to bristle and how her eyes remained transfixed on the crystal clear water as though she was seeing the boogeyman. And then she bolted, much to Midna's surprise and ran off away from the pond. Midna gasped as she fell backwards again watching her leave with wide eyes, but that wasn't her only concern. How was she going to get back without Paranoia? She sure didn't know the way! Scrambling to her paws Midna started to run off to find her when she was suddenly blocked by something very...yellow. Standing there with a scowl on his face was the male from earlier who Paranoia had ignored. And judging from his narrowed eyes and that scowl he was not happy. "Where is it!" he growled and Midna hissed when he tried to intimidate her. "What your brain? I think you might have lost it." She snapped, not in the mood for stupid games or arguments. She needed to find Paranoia and get back to the playground. "Now move, I have to go find my friend."
But the male wasn't giving up that easily. Again he blocked her path and this time added a nip in for good measure, which really hurt! Stunned, Midna fell back onto her haunches as her ear began to sting and she felt tears begin to prickle in her eyes before she lashed out angrily at the male, biting his foreleg in retaliation before jumping away and running towards where Paranoia had gone. "Meanie!" She hissed as she began zig-zagging through the strange forest, trying to catch a glimpse of her friend but that seemed impossible here, as everything seemed dark and hard to see. The sound of running pawsteps behind her told her she wasn't alone in this chase, and she began to grow frustrated. She had no idea what this guy's deal was and honestly she didn't care. She was tired, worried, hungry and hurt and all she really wanted to do was find Paranoia and go home.
But we have to take into consideration that Midna was still very young, while the other two were indeed a bit older than she. And thus had longer legs. The male tackled Midna to the ground and the two wrestled fitfully for awhile, growling and yipping but strangely enough neither one was biting. Which was fine with Midna since her ear still hurt anyway. The two young JBD's eventually ended up sprawled away from the other, breathless and a little angry.
"WHY are you following me?!" Midna figured she might as well figure that out since it was the first thing bugging her in the first place.
The yellow male looked at her with narrowed eyes, suspicious and more than a little confused by the question.
"You guys have my mango." he said slowly as though Midna were stupid, and she glared at him for a moment as she shook her head. "I don't have a mango. I don't even know what a mango is!"
At this the male puffed up for a moment and glared at her, trying to intimidate the truth of it her it would seem, but what Midna had said was the truth. She didn't know anything about a mango and seeing that she was in fact being honest, the male settled back down and cocked his head confusedly.
"Well if you don't have my mango, then who does?" Midna opened her mouth to say she had no clue when a cry echoed in the forest around them. Jumping to their paws in surprise they both looked towards the direction of the sound. "That's Paranoia!" Midna exclaimed and before Mango could stop her she took off again.
Not wanting to get left behind, Mango followed after her and the two of them soon found the female they were looking for who was really, really high up right now. In a tree. The red-eyed JBD spotted Midna and Mango as she struggled to get her footing back on the branch she was currently dangling from, her fur having gotten caught on something. "Oh no..." Midna breathed her eyes widening fearfully for her friend. Beside her the male sat tense as he watched. "We've gotta help her get down!" Midna said hurriedly as she began to raced towards the tree, but the male stopped her. Irritated that now he'd complain about his precious mango she glared at him, but he paid no real attention to her as he began climbing the base of the tree and like a squirrel he zipped up the tree. Midna could only watch apprehensively as he inched towards Paranoia cautiously. He was talking to her, but Midna was either too far down to hear or she was too busy worrying to notice. Whatever he'd said though got Paranoia to shift a little towards him. The branch however let out an eerie crackling sound that sent Midna through near fits as she watched her two new friends. She was barely breathing and the two who were in the most dangerous position at the moment weren't daring to either, and yet the male still found it in him to grab Paranoia's scruff and begin pulling her to the base of the branch. With his help Paranoia managed to get her footing on the branch and quickly both JBD's were to safety when the branch finally snapped off. Midna narrowly avoided that one, and boy was she glad she did. The two quickly climbed down from the tree and tumbled into Midna, both of them shaking nearly as much as Midna was. The three young JBDs lay there for a moment, Midna in the middle, Paranoia on the right and the male on the left. Paranoia thankfully wasn't hurt, Midna later found out as she examined the female's fur and niether was Mango. Both were safe and that's all that mattered. Even though she was younger than both of them, she felt very protective of her friends, and had been so scared when she couldn't do a single thing to help them. Now though that was behind them as they lay there.
They sat like that until the sun began to descend from the sky and Midna remembered she had parents to get home to. Who were probably worried sick about her. The thought made Midna cringe a little, but she couldn't bring herself to regret leaving the park with Paranoia, not after the fun they'd had. And hanging out with Mango wasn't so bad, when he wasn't complaining about his mangoes that is. The two slightly older JBD's walked her back to the park, where they found her parents and Paranoia's parents searching for them all frantically. When they spotted their children they nearly sprinted on their way and scooped up both Paranoia and Midna and licked them furiously, while chiding them and scolding them. It was then that Midna noticed how Mango seemed to shy away from the group and turned with a sad tear in his eye. Seeing this Midna managed to break away from her family and grabbed his tail to stop him before he could run off. She made a questioning noise in the back of her throat as Mango turned to look at her and she was surprised to find he was indeed crying now. "What's wrong Mango?" she asked and then that's when she noticed something. She hadn't seen Mango's parents. "Where's your mama and papa?" Mango shook his head. "They're gone....He whispered as more tears fell down his face, and Midna felt her heart go out to the poor guy. So much in fact that she didn't want her friend to go feeling so lonely.
Midna let go of his tail for a moment and turned to look at her parents. "Mama, papa can Mango come over?" she asked and the yellow JBD looked up surprised by the question. Hardly anyone ever asked that. Mango usually traveled off by himself since his own parents were gone along with his sisters, but when he saw the two parents converse to each other softly with sympathy, not pity, in their eyes he felt a flare of hope build up in his chest that grew happily as they each nodded. They had no qualms about that and Midna smiled happily at Mango.
"Hey what about me?" Paranoia grumbled and Midna smiled apologetically at her own parents while Paranoia glared. "Oops, sorry Paranoia. Mama, papa can she come too?" It was with a smile and and chuckle that the two groups of parents agreed to come over to Midna's house. And so that was how the friendship of these three began and soon grew into the firmest bond, that no one could sever.
"Hi! I'm Midna and I'm a gypsy!" The little JBD announced proudly but the other female cocked her head to the side confused. "What's that?" She asked Midna, and at the question Midna shrugged, not knowing what a Gypsy was herself. All she knew was that she was a gypsy. "I dunno, but it's what I am!"
