Use the storm to form your wings
If you can brave just one more gust
Perhaps you'll sail away from here.

Hello there, I guess you want to hear about me and my life. I'll warn you now that it isn't exactly a nice story...or maybe it is a nice story, I guess I wouldn't really know. I've learned a lot of important things throughout the chapters of my life, a lot of them might not be the sort of thing you'd WANT to know generally, but in the big scheme of things...well, sometimes you need to crawl through the darkest of dark caves, in order to fully appreciate the light. So maybe I'm the lucky one after all.

Introductions are very important, so I guess I should start with that. Hello, my name is Arianne. My name is of French origin I think, and I've been told it means "Most Holy." Truthfully I don't know if that's a great description of me. I don't exactly feel like a holy sort of kiamara...but maybe I should let you be the judge of that. By the time you've finished reading this account of my life, maybe you'll have a better understanding about who I fundamentally am...and whether 'Arianne' actually suits me after all.

Oh! You're still here? I-I must admit I'm a little bit surprised, I truly don't think I'm that interesting...though Master Raphael would disagree. He makes a point of telling me when I'm being degrading towards myself. You know, it's almost funny, he's exactly what people think of as the "worst of the worst," but....I'm not so sure, he's always treated me like I'm valuable, and when I said I didn't believe it...well, he always told me that in the entire world there will only ever be one of me. Past, present, and future. Guess it's just something I held onto out of our lessons....

Oh dear, I'm-I'm rambling again, so sorry! Ummm, you want to know a bit more about me? Well...truly I'm just not sure what else there is for you to learn! Let's see....

    I'm 19 years old,
    obviously I am female,
I tend to a group of crows,
    and I've been Master Raphael's...ummm...servant?
For pretty much my whole life.

What? No! It's...it's not like that. I don't know where I'd be if not for Master Raphael, I'm grateful to him, not angry or oppressed or something. Didn't you get that from what I said earlier? He treats me kindly, I can't...well, I simply can't complain. I know it probably sounds terrible to you, the idea of doing hours of work for someone else all your life without pay, but honestly, where would I be if not for him? Probably somewhere in the slums...or worse.

Truthfully I don't know though, like I said, I've been living on his property, in the groundskeepers house, since I was a little girl...no more than seven or eight years old, so what do I know of the outside world??? NOTHING....nothing....
    nothing

I do so love to fly. Isn't it beautiful here? Isn't it peaceful? Oh! Look over there! Do you see it? Sir Cloud is advancing on a silver chariot of wind, facing off against the ornery Sun King once again. Such foolishness, no one can defy the Sun King... Ahhhh, and there he goes, poor Sir Cloud, he never stood a chance.
And now my brothers come!! Do you see them? They're coming on the wind towards us, so noble and proud, carrion birds they may be, but they never lose their sense of pride and accomplishment. I do envy them that.
"Hello my brethren! Shall we fly together through the sky today?"
"Craw! Yesss sissster, come flyyyyyy!"
I need only unravel my wings and I can soar with them! Oh! See my wings? So soft and silky, crow-wings like my brothers, how I love them so...and now away! Away to fly the sky! Come let's-

Eh? Wh-what? Oh...were you speaking with me? I-I'm sorry, I do that sometimes when I get worked up or...or overly sad, I just kind of drift. Ahaha, I um...I hope you can forgive me perhaps? Oh...my arms are....sorry, I was just...just....imitating a bird I suppose?

....D-do you like any sorts of birds? I...I....oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you anxious! It just happens to me sometimes, just...can you forget it happened please? Let-let's talk about happier things shall we? W-wouldn't want to have another episode haha......
IMPORTANT NOTE; PLEASE READ wrote:I know you're likely a bit confused by this.
I certainly don't blame you.
However in a different section, this little....episode will be fully explained.
Sorry for the current vagueness, I am still gathering research on her...condition.
At any rate I do recommend coming back to read this again once you understand what happened.

IMPORTANT NOTE; PLEASE READ wrote:Well, I suppose you have met Arianne already hmmm? I'm sorry for that, this must seem
rather backwards to you, meeting her and THEN talking with me. I like to think, however, that you might have
already formed a basic idea of who she is (and perhaps a more accurate one) from having met her on your own,
rather than had me tell you who she is.

That being said, Arianne isn't exactly a typical Kiamara (as I'm sure you've noticed), so I feel it is my duty
to try and fill some conflicting questions you may have in regards to who she is, and how she typically behaves,
before you speak with her again.

Attached to this note I have included a comprehensive personality sheet, historical memoir, and a collection
of stories all compiled by me from Arianne herself and through the use of my abilities and colleagues. I do
hope you find her as fascinating as I do.

Cheers!

Well, I suppose you've likely already learned some things about Arianne, but as someone who knows her best I only feel it's right that I show you some of her deepest innerworkings, the things that Arianne herself may not even realize exist. To begin with however, it is imperative that I first tell you about her personality.

Empathetic Submissive Dreamer Hopeful Compassionate

If you were to take Snow White, turn her into a peasant, and then have her live life under the repressive hand of an all-knowing dictator, you might very well find yourself looking at Arianne. She very much possesses that infallibly kind spirit embodied by Snow White, and alongside that behaves in an effervescently cheerful manner, refusing to let anything bring her down. She will toil in quiet acceptance, never feeling anything other than a sad sympathy towards the master who sets her to those tasks.
      Image Empathetic
          em·pa·thy adj:
Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives.

Arianne has always been capable of feeling another beings pain. From a young age she was constantly out finding injured animals (mainly birds) and tending to them tirelessly until they improved or perished. She never did this without manifesting their pain in some way herself. If a bird was found with a broken wing Arianne would be seen wandering listlessly, with one leg hanging limply by her side. It wasn't because she necessarily felt the pain in her leg on it's own, but more that she could so clearly identify with the other beings pain, that it eventually became her own mentally, and due to her imagination would often show itself in a physical equivalent of the incident.
      Image Submissive
          sub·mis·sive adj:
          Meekly obedient or passive.

This was not a trait that she was born with, rather, Arianne came to acquire a submissive trait after she found herself ensnared in Raphael's clutches. Having seen what he did to those who defied him, Arianne quickly adopted an attitude of unquestioning servitude and submission to whatever task he set before her, likely being what saved her in the end. Essentially in Arianne's case, being submissive manifests frequently in her day-to-day life. She tends to keep her eyes lowered to the ground meekly, voice soft, and her attitude being one that refuses to say "no" to anything she is told to do. There is no argumentative or obstinate aspect to her whatsoever, if you attack her physically she will not react aggressively in turn, she might curl up defensively, but she will neither run nor attack back. By this point that trait has been so tightly ingrained into her, that it's doubtful she will ever move past passivity into some sort of aggression.

      Image Dreamer
          dream·er adj:
a person who lives in or escapes to a world of fantasy or illusion.

Faced with the reality of Raphael's cruelty and horrific actions after being "taken in" by him at the age of eight, Arianne was forced to develop some sort of coping mechanism. What ended up occurring was that the young kiamara grew a beautiful and brilliant imagination, one so powerful (tied perhaps to her empathetic tendencies) that they almost classify as hallucinatory. When faced with something horrific which she cannot reconcile with herself, Arianne chooses to escape into a land she has created on her own within her mind. It is inexplicably entwined with "Her Crows" which will be discussed in more detail below. In addition to this, Arianne remains the sort who constantly finds herself imagining a better and sweeter world for herself, to the point where she sometimes feels more like she lives in her world of imagination, and less in the grimness of reality.

      Image Hopeful
          hope·ful adj:
Feeling or inspiring optimism about a future event.

Hand-in-hand with being a dreamer, Arianne also remains unswervingly hopeful about everything in life. When asked how she can possibly handle her day-to-day life, she can be counted on to say in a very soft voice; "Why, I look to the future of course." In her mind there is nothing that can possibly happen which is so bad that it cannot be remedied with time. The mantra of "the day being darkest just before the dawn" essentially sums up her thought process perfectly. She may have been stuck in that dark time for eleven years, but that doesn't mean she's about to lose hope. In Arianne's mind the longer the stretch of time she must exist surrounded by suffering, the brighter and better her future will be.

      Image Compassionate
          com·pass·i·on adj:
Sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

Though similar to being empathetic, compassion is different in that it does not involve actually feeling the pain of others. Since Arianne holds both empathy and compassion, she sets herself up for all her other personality traits. It gives her the unique ability to look at anyone and see their motivations and reasons for things, and cohesively sympathize with them over everything. In her own case this applies strongly towards her relationship with Raphael. Though she abhors everything he does to others, she does understand him and why he does those things, making her incapable of hating him. It also has led to her feeling a strange responsibility to Rafe, one that has convicted her to attempt to "save" him from himself...no matter what the costs. Whether she can ever overcome her own passivity and submissive nature to do this however...well, that is the big question.

IMPORTANT NOTE: wrote:Although Arianne has already revealed *some* of her past,
Raphael made a point of inquiring after
who she was in great depth, and where she
came from, on his own time...and through a bit of finagling I
managed to acquire this information for myself from him.
Thus it is recorded here for your own use if you choose.

Hope this sheds some insight,
~Kat
One dreary spring morning on the outskirts of a fairly prosperous town, a new life slipped into the world with very little bravado or even notice. Undersized, she was born slightly prematurely to two poor and downtrodden kiamara's who could not afford to raise a child, but would not give her up without a fight. They felt quite strongly that she had been a gift from above to them, and decided to name her Arianne without preamble, feeling that a name which means "Most Holy" might bode well for her future, or at the very least entreat some Greater Being to look down with favor upon their little girl whom they considered their greatest treasure.

Time passed, a few years to be specific, and Arianne was the light of their life. Ever joyful, ever loving, she was filled with an empathetic and compassionate spirit which could move them to tears of love at times. To the two of them their daughter was absolute perfection, "touched from above" they would say, and they both agreed that she was destined for greater things. In that spirit her parents determined that they must work harder than ever to scrimp and save every dime so that she could have a better life. This meant long, hard, arduous hours of work on their small plot of land and in whatever capacity they could find. Regardless of the exhaustion this caused, seeing their precious bundle of joy so healthy and happy seemed to make everything worthwhile.

Until things began to fall apart.

When Arianne was five years old she caught a horrific bout of pneumonia. All the neighbouring farms were certain she stood no chance of surviving, and treated the family with the grief one would impart upon a family who has already lost a loved one. Infuriated by this treatment, and unwilling to accept the reality of their daughters imminent death, they took the savings meant to be used for her education and advancement in society, and spent it on the life-saving medication she needed instead.

Arianne recovered immediately after the treatment, growing healthy once more with such rapidity that few could fathom it. It was at that time that her parents noted a new marking which had displayed itself faintly upon her fur...the soft shape of bird wings, unfolded upon the two sides of her coat like she had, for a few brief moments, gotten hold of angel wings for herself which had left their mark on her as a reminder of her new lease on life. Heartened by this discovery her parents were more certain than ever that she was marked for greater things.

She changed slightly from that point onwards though, a little quieter, a little more soft spoken, with a strange innate knowledge of the world that at once frightened and astonished them. She was intuitively intelligent and yet simple in her expression of those thoughts. Her parents remained unerringly adoring of her.

Arianne was six years old when disaster struck once more. A strange disease ravaged the rural areas where she lived, attacking and killing many families entirely, and decimating the population in a matter of months. Shockingly it appeared that Arianne and her family would be spared of this...until one cool morning in the beginnings of Fall she discovered them weak and shivering, their power sapped to the point where they could not even lift their heads from the bed.

Arianne tried, as much as she could, to help them and heal them, but the disease was quite untreatable, and so instead she watched them fade with every passing day.

In those moments a darkness descended upon the house which had been a home, and even Arianne, young as she was, felt the threatening claws of hopelessness and despair begin to clutch her heart. Truly when the final day of her parents lives came it seemed that Arianne's life might end with theirs out of sheer grief. But, like a beam of strange light, an occurrence happened then which perhaps changed the entire course of her life.

As she lay between her parents, despairing as she listened to their weakening strains for breath, she felt an agony in her soul unlike anything she had ever experienced before. Yet just when she felt that all hope may be lost for her as well, she looked up to the open window and saw two gleaming crows. They sat, almost regally, upon the sill, looking in towards her parents, and at that moment both her mother and father exhaled once and then failed to inhale again.

At that moment in time the crows, their eyes appearing suddenly brighter, turned to look at Arianne for a long moment before they leapt back out the window and flew away into the sky. Arianne felt a sudden joy and wonder fill her, feeling that the crows had come for her parents souls, sent to take and hold them so they could be guided on into the next world.

From then on Arianne felt a special bond towards crows, caring for them as best she could during the winter months with whatever excess food she had, and always in her dreams she saw herself flying with the crows...the only connection she had left with her parents.

Arianne effectively became...a lady of the crows. Even after Raphael "found" her and "took her in" she retained a love and fascination for the scavenger birds that were so often frowned upon. And even in the darkest of times, from that day forward, Arianne always retained an attitude of hope and perseverance...no matter the situation.

Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do
I'll still feel you here
'til the moment I'm gone.

You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much
than to drown in your love
and not feel your reign.

Set me free, leave me be.
I don't want to fall another moment
into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall,
just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

You loved me 'cause I'm fragile.
When I thought that I was strong.
But you touch me for a little while
and all my fragile strength is gone.

It's one thing to have someone set a personality before you and say "look, here is what this person is" but no words or phrases can truly express the entirety of a living breathing being. Therefore while I can never truly show you exactly who Arianne is by boringly setting the facts in front of you...well, it is at least imperative that I explain her particular condition to you. It's something even Arianne doesn't understand, meaning it is my responsibility to inform you all on what it is.

Now, before I truly get into describing it I figure I'll let all of you know that it isn't a medical condition that can be clearly identified. It's something entirely new in many ways, something without a name, something...unique. So while you read this section and come to understand much more about her psyche, I hope you recognize just how special and precious she is.

For our purposes, and simply to make referring to it easier, I have begun calling the condition psychic escape. The name will make sense once you have read through this section.

And with that I conclude this brief intro...I do hope this will be enlightening.

══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Image
Arianne has ever been a creature driven by the forces of compassion and empathy. This being the case living as Rafe's servant has been a huge cause of contention for her. He is ruthless and cruel, murdering the young and defenseless within her sphere of existence. Naturally this causes much angst and inner conflict within her soul. The suffering of others is something she cannot bear very well in any capacity, so over the years the stresses of being party to the pain of others (albeit at Rafe's request and without the ability to say no) led to a crack developing in Arianne's psyche. It was a survival tool, made in order for her to be able to survive the things she had done and seen.

    Image Triggers

There are various triggers which cause Arianne to go into a psychic escape episode. They all tend to have several things in common though, so I can give you some details on what to look for and avoid....or exploit if you're feeling adventurous.

        ● Extreme Stress; this includes things such as serious time restraints set down by Rafe, with intense punishment as the repercussion for failure. Also things such as pressure to excel, in certain areas that she is not proficient in, can send her over the edge. Being asked about things which she does not know or cannot speak about are potential triggers too, anything in which she feels backed into a proverbial corner really.

        ● Suffering; this is a trigger which occurs most frequently as a result of Rafe's influence. The fear and pain of his victims effects her profoundly, and often psychic escape is the only way for her to deal with it.

        ● Despair; though this is an emotion that doesn't often plague her, it does on occasion show its face. Generally in association to failed attempts to try and awaken Rafe's conscience, the feeling of failure and despair it evokes can send her into a psychic escape episode. On rare days this despair can also be achieved through self-pity, though generally this occurs less frequently than the other triggers.

    Image Symptoms

You witnessed an episode like this earlier I believe, when you first met Arianne? So I'm sure these symptoms will be something you can read and simply go "Ah-hah!" to as you realize the root cause of them. Though not all symptoms manifest (they vary depending on the severity of the situation and how deeply rooted she becomes in the psychic escape) several are always present.

        ● Vivid Hallucinations; though you cannot see anything different in the world, for Arianne she slips away from the stress and pain of the situation into a world of her own making. These are more akin to vivid daydreams than hallucinations in some respects, but the fact that they feel completely real to Arianne bump them to the level of hallucination. In them Arianne is free to do as she pleases, and it is this freedom which tends to appeal to her the most.

        ● Crow Brothers; in all of her hallucinations one element is ALWAYS present in some form....the mention of her crow brethren. In these dreams Arianne believes with her entire soul that she is related to the crows, that they are her brothers, and she can speak with them in this time. In rare instances the crows take on the mentality and voice of her deceased parents, and these interactions tend to be Arianne's favourite and she believes them to be brief glimpses into the afterlife.

        ● Wings/Flight; during her hallucinations Arianne's wing-shaped markings grown and expand into a pair of crow wings which allow her to take flight with her crow brothers. This is the most common element, and while the setting and events of the hallucination may vary, the presence of her wings in it are constant. This makes flight a huge part of them as well, and often Arianne soars high above the clouds in her hallucinations, finally freed from the pains and trials of her life.

        ● Body Distortions; naturally Arianne's form tends to be altered from her actual physical appearance in reality. She tends to be much more angular, with her tail flowing almost like a swathe of inky darkness behind her, melding with the clouds in an ethereal connection to the fictional world around her. The colours also tend to be off, less vivid and blue, more in line with the soft pastel sweetness of her hallucinatory world.

        ● Physical Manifestations; occasionally during her outbursts Arianne expresses some of her dream behaviour in the real world. It is an interesting phenomenon and very confusing for the casual onlooker. Often it involves her eyes, always open, staring vacantly out in front of her as she rises on her hind legs and attempts to flap her front legs as though trying to force them to become her wings. It is both a comical and a very tragic thing to witness, saddening to see her trying to achieve flight and perhaps freedom, yet tied to the earth in her restrictive body...even if her mind flies free.

And with that I have shown you Arianne's deeply rooted condition....where the desire to be one of the birds, flying free in the sky, overtakes everything in her life. Perhaps now is a good time to return to your first meeting with Arianne where she undoubtedly confused you with her strange outburst. Hopefully you can sympathize and understand her better now. What the origins of this condition was is difficult to gauge, some would argue it began with the death of her parents, and subsequently the crows on the sill...others believe Rafe drove her to it. As for me? I believe Arianne needed a place to escape, to be free in, and she created it...end of story.

Ahhh...at last you've found yourself here. In these dusty pages you will find the truest forms of who Arianne is. Why is this you ask? It's simple really, here are the stories of her life. Not all are happy, not all are sad, but isn't that the reality of life? A constant hurdle of ups and downs, where every obstacle conquered makes you better, and every time you wake to greet the day is a victory.

I hope you enjoy reading the stories that tell who she is, and maybe, just maybe, you can meet her again one day and know her better. I think she would appreciate a hug.

For mood music to listen to as you read...please click the titles of the stories, it will take you to a song that illustrates the moment.

Dew drops ornamented the vivid green stalks of grass throughout the meadow. The early morning sun rising lazily above the horizon caught the dew-touched blades of grass at a perfect angle, spraying the entire vale with a glittering diamond-like effect. At the edge of this beautiful and enigmatic world, a soft blue creature sat, her tail wrapped primly about her paws as she watched the morning proceed. Her head was tilted slightly to the left, her golden eyes dancing with undisguised delight as morning brought forth the awakening of the sleeping earth. It was a magical time for her, a time she refused to miss.

Abruptly though her head swiveled, delicate snout pointing back towards the woods from whence she had come. A voice could be heard faintly, disturbing the comfortable silence in the vale, a hint of temper colouring it's tone. The female creature cringed slightly, her tail tip twitching with anxiety. Her master was not usually awake so early, the fact that he was calling for her made the situation all the more dire.

Whirling on dainty paws she ran elegantly through the woods, her sinuous body following a path without thought, having travelled it so many times that she knew exactly where to place her paws, and could have traversed it with her eyes closed. She ran head-long into a large mass suddenly though, sinewy muscles and a golden-brown toned coat hardly moving at all, while her smaller body bounced off of his with a thud and crashed to the ground.

A grumble of annoyance, tinged with faint amusement, tickled her ears before his voice rang out.

"
Arianne. Where were you, and what exactly are you doing out here hmmm?"

His voice brooked no argument and demanded an answer. Lowering her head reluctantly, somewhat loathe to admit to her early morning sojourns to the meadow, she let out a soft sigh and answered him without preamble.

"
I'm sorry Master Raphael, I-I was just...just..." Her voice trailed off uncertainly and unhappily for a moment before she finished the sentence in a much softer voice "just going to the meadow to watch the sun rise....I've been doing it every morning for nearly a month." She bowed her head and waited for punishment, knowing that surely it would be forthcoming given the fact that she had been sneaking out for so long. Doing such a thing was unacceptable, it broke at least two of the rules Raphael had set out for her and the few other kiamaras he had chosen to let live.

He stood silently before her, a powerful and somewhat menacing figure, one that she had extensive trouble understanding, and one who had both been her redemption and her doom. All the things she expected in that moment were entirely valid, and his track record spoke credence to all of them. Yet perhaps Raphael was feeling benevolent that day, or perhaps the sweet innocence of the rebellion performed by the incorruptible female before him touched some part of the heart that had long been thought dead and decayed. Regardless of the reason his answer changed almost everything for her in that next moment.

"
Oh is that so? Perhaps I shall join you then, the rise of a morning is not something to be missed I would imagine." The amused warmth in his voice was something Arianne would never have expected. It was something that came from a creature with emotions, with the capability for caring, and Raphael had only ever been a cruel and merciless dictator.

She stared at him in shock for a few seconds and then beamed brightly at him, bouncing excitedly about and turning to lead him back towards the spot from whence she had came. He chuckled but followed her, humouring the younger kiamara it seemed, but when he came to sit beside her on the crest of the hill to admire the view....Arianne chanced a glance towards him.

His eyes were wide with appreciation and wonder, surveying the simple beauty of the meadow before him with the wonder of a much younger and freer kiamara. It was in that moment that Arianne felt her compassion and empathy bubble to a boil within her. She wanted to save him. Surely he was capable of being saved from the evil and darkness that surrounded him right? Surely there was the capability of love and compassion within him as well? Uncertainty lingered in her heart for a few moments, and then she caught sight of a crow. Perched on a branch above Raphael's head, it's sleek feathers shining in the soft morning sunlight, beady eyes staring back at her steadily. In that moment Arianne knew the truth. It was surely her life's mission to save him, the reason why he had found her in the first place. It was only right of course, he had saved her once....now things would come full circle as she tried to redeem and save him. For in trying to save him, save some of the world from his evil, she would either succeed....or lose herself in the process.

A smile touched her face, and in that moment a strange connection was born between the two. Light and darkness meeting on the edge of a dew-touched meadow.

P-please…? I-I’m sorry, j-just…let me go. ” The rough and frantic voice was accompanied by a desperate glow within the faded blue depths of the kiamara’s eyes. Arianne pinned her ears back unhappily, she knew this man had a terrible past, that he had done terrible things, and yet…the fate Master Raphael had in store for him? It just wasn’t right and she knew it. But what was she to do? Raphael was her master, to disobey him meant death for herself…and was her death worth the life of this murderer? This male who had done such horrible things in his own stead? She just didn’t know.

Grimacing Arianne turned away for a moment and grabbed the pitcher of water, it was her job to keep them alive until….until the time came for Master Raphael’s work to begin. Swallowing hard she turned back to the haggard male kia and spoke in a soft and measured voice. “
I’m going to pour this water now, drink as much as you need.” As her words registered in his mind, the fact that she wasn’t going to help him, the desperate and frantic look on his face was replaced by malice and hate. Snarling he flung himself at the metal bars, his jaws snapping for her jugular.

Arianne gasped and felt terror grip her frantically beating heart, though in her head she knew the big grey male had no chance of reaching her, her heart panicked at his nearness and the furious madness in his eyes.

All at once a larger shape appeared between her and the mad kia, a familiar snarl and scent washing over her. A wave of relief washed over her, a shockingly unusual emotion for Raphael’s presence to evoke, usually he promoted fear and anxiety, not relief, but this wasn’t a typical situation, and for once she was glad he was there.

Look away Arianne.” Was all he managed to snarl out, and without preamble Arianne did exactly that, squeezing her eyes shut and turning away from the sound of horrifying snarling. She hummed a nervous tune, trying to escape to her other world, yet for some reason being trapped in this moment instead, the sound of snarls shifting into far more grotesque and horrifying sounds.

It took a few moments for Arianne to register the silence that suddenly descended. It was not a sweet silence, nor a peaceful one, but rather a thick and cloying one that was scented with blood. A shudder rippled through her. Though she had long ago come to accept the fact that her life ran a parallel path with death, she found that she could not adjust to it….no matter how badly she wanted to escape the horror and grief that accompanied moments like this.

A whimper slipped inadvertently out of her throat in response to it all, and when she finally managed to force her eyes to open, Arianne found that her golden eyes were staring straight into Master Raphael’s emerald ones. For a moment the two were locked there together, Arianne searching desperately for something redeemable within his gaze, and Raphael….well, he seemed to be searching for some unfathomable thing within hers. It was in that searching, that odd expression in his eyes that appeared to be half-yearning for something he could grasp onto, that reinforced in Arianne’s mind that he surely could be saved from himself. Yet as the hope seemed to creep into her face, Raphael’s eyes grew shuttered and he drew away, the odd intimacy of the moment lost.

I’m sorry you had to witness that.” Was all that he said, his tone brisk and only barely apologetic. “However there is a reason that I told you never to engage in any sort of conversation with them.” He growled faintly, pinning her with a somewhat stern glare. “The ones I bring here are hardly worth your sympathy Arianne, all of them to a one have done great damage to the world.” His eyes flickered with faint annoyance, “Frankly I can’t understand why you would care at all for the well-being of any of them. Just think of what that one would have done…what he tried to do to you.” Shaking his head with faint disgust it looked as though he would walk away and leave her there, but abruptly he paused and turned to look at her, his brow knit with confusion. “So tell me Arianne, why do you feel they are worth your time?

Because I believe everyone deserves a second chance, that everyone has the ability to be redeemed.” She whispered with a sigh, her shoulders slumping faintly, defeat colouring her tone. He would listen to what she said, but he would never truly hear her words. She toiled away for him, tending to those who would become his victims once he was finished letting them think about what they had done, and it took much out of her….perhaps too much. Her eyes squeezed shut, and for a very brief moment Arianne allowed despair to swirl around her.

Suddenly, as the haze of uselessness began to fall heavily on her shoulders, she became aware of Raphael’s nearness once more. She was unable to open her eyes though, as her head hung down dejectedly, but suddenly she felt one of his paws lift her chin up, and dully she let her eyes flick open once more. He was staring at her with a perplexed but warm expression on his face, and after a few moments more he spoke. “
Arianne…despite what you may hope, they truly are unredeemable and not worth your grief.” He paused and tilted his head for a moment, before an easy smile flitted onto his face. “All the same, you are absolutely captivating, your hope and innocence…so charming, and I find myself reminded of why I chose to keep you with me.

Arianne stared at him for a long moment, her expression unreadable; she didn’t know what to think anymore. Raphael had so many faces, so many ever-changing moods, and she found herself wondering if she would ever actually know who the real Raphael was, or what exactly she was to him. Arianne wondered that often, why he had kept her, he might say it was because he found her captivating –another word for interesting in his mind- but Arianne couldn’t help but feel it was more than that. Was she a daughter of sorts to him? Someone he saw potential in, kept for a while out of amusement, and then developed an attachment to? Or was she really just another plaything to him? Arianne didn’t know, but she hoped, deep in her soul, that perhaps somewhere along the way of attempting to redeem him she might find out.

Arianne was sitting again on the borders of the meadow she loved so dearly, Raphael had told her she could forgo her duties for the day and relax. He had been in an uncommonly good mood….perhaps attributed to the cream coloured female kiamara who seemed to be occupying his time currently. Arianne worried for her, Raphael tended to taint everything he touched intentionally, and if the sodden mess of kiamara she had seen him carry into the house was that damaged inside…well, she likely wouldn’t leave the house as the same kiamara she had been when she entered…if she left at all.

Arianne had watched females come and go like clockwork with her master, he was incredibly charming when he wanted to be, and seemed to enjoy women as much as they enjoyed him. A soft sigh slipped past Arianne’s lips and she wondered, with some disquiet, whether it was possible she was feeling jealous. Mere months ago she would have scoffed at the very thought, however more recently…things seemed to have changed between them. It was not a romantic bond that they shared, nothing quite so intimate, however an odd sort of friendship had bloomed between the two since her nineteenth birthday. Or perhaps friendship was the wrong word…more like a tenuous appreciation for the other party’s thoughts and ideas, well, to an extent. Arianne could never condone the murders he committed frequently, nor the hearts of hapless females that he broke even more regularly, however she had come to grudgingly respect his intellect and appreciation for beautiful things, just as he respected her innocence and “simple yet beautiful” view of the world.

A breeze flitted across the edge of the meadow, and the beads on her horns jangled slightly, her feathers brushing with soft sighs against her fur, and just like that Arianne found herself jolted back to a memory….the memory of her nineteenth birthday.

~*~

None of Arianne’s birthdays had ever really been celebrated, she marked their passing with a shrug and nothing else, carrying on as she always had with no difference being seen by her as she grew older. This year had been different however. It appeared that Master Raphael had kept track of her birthdays as well, and on the morning of this day he came to her where she was sitting in the meadow.

Happy birthday Arianne.” His deep and rumbling voice had startled her, and she had whipped her head in shock to stare at his merrily twinkling eyes. All of this was unusual, on the days where he did choose to join her in the meadow, he always came after her and sat silently beside her without speaking, leaving with her but never saying anything. She had grown used to it, the strange companionship of it, and didn’t mind the silent communion they shared with the rising sun. So his greeting her this morning came as a definitive shock which she wasn’t prepared for…particularly since he had apparently remembered her birthday.

W-why thank-you.” She had stammered, her eyes confused and a bit bewildered by it all. He had seemed amused by her lack of understanding, and had allowed a deep throaty chuckle to ring forth.

Although I know you have foregone celebrating past birthdays….I felt that this one should be commemorated.” Arianne couldn’t fathom why he would feel that way about this one. A nineteenth birthday was not adulthood, twenty-four was, so why should this one be considered special in any way? Staring at him in blatant confusion she waited for Raphael to explain….and for once he did. “Ahhh, I suppose you wouldn’t see it as special but….today marks the tenth year since I found you and took you in.” She had sat in silent surprise for a few moments, just taking in that news and trying to recall if it really had been that long. “Now of course, it wasn’t on your birthday that I found you, however I felt it was logical to commemorate them both together.” He added as way of explanation. It made more sense to Arianne now of course, but she still failed to see why he would really care. Had his life changed so much with the addition of her to his routine? She supposed vaguely that that must be the case, or else he wouldn’t have come to her this morning with birthday celebrations on his mind.

Well I-I’m flattered that you remembered?” She murmured lamely, not exactly sure what to say in response. Thankfully Raphael seemed to enjoy her utter inability to say something socially acceptable, and let out an easy chuckle instead of some sort of condemnation.

I suppose you would find it odd that I would notice such a thing, after all these years of not saying anything.” He said ruefully, though a shrug of one large shoulder seemed to dispel any semblance of real guilt that he may have felt. “No matter, I’ll try and make up for that in the future.” He had winked almost playfully at her, and Arianne had felt intensely confused. What had changed from the day before, where he had been egotistical and demanding as usual, to now when he treated her as an equal of sorts? The answer, it seemed, lay in what he said and did next. “At any rate, I have a gift for you. I know it is a few years too early, but I never have been one to follow the rules.” He said smoothly, turning his head for a moment and then turning back to her with a mouthful of beautiful golden feathers held in his maw, a smile lighting his eyes. “Your feathers, I feel you’ve earned them.” He said almost briskly, setting them down gently at her paws.

W-where did you find them.” Arianne asked in faint shock, her eyes widening as she stared at them in wonder. Raphael chuckled but didn’t answer her immediately, picking them up first and then carefully tying the feathers to the string and beads attached to her front leg and tail.

There.” He murmured, a smirk of satisfaction settling on his face as he surveyed his work. “They match your eyes as I’d hoped they would.” Raphael muttered to himself in a pleased tone of voice, “And if you must know, I’d kept my eyes open for golden feathers like these for some time, until I stumbled upon a dye expert and had a brilliant idea. Using some of the fallen feathers from your beloved crows, I took them to this merchant and had her dye them golden with creamier tips. She did a fine job I’d say, well worth the expense.” His self-satisfied smile for once evoked nothing but appreciation from Arianne. It was the kindest gesture she had ever seen him do, and lifting up a paw to inspect the crow feathers Raphael had had dyed a golden shade to match her eyes….she felt a well of happiness spring unexpectedly to life within her. Turning a beaming smile of joy, and eyes dancing with happiness, towards Raphael, she could only manage to say one thing.

Thank-you!” And she had thrown herself at him in a hug attempt. Though at first he had been unyielding, it seeming as though he would pull away, abruptly it appeared that Raphael finally decided to give in…just once, and with a gentle chuckle he had allowed her to curl into his thick chest fur and nudged her cheek almost playfully.

You’re most welcome, and I do hope you have a good birthday for once…feel free to abandon your duties…but just this once!” And with another laugh, but not a further word, he had walked away.

~*~

Arianne had no foolish illusions, she knew Raphael did terrible and unforgiveable things, but there were moments when she caught glimpses of what he might have been…had fate not steered him down such a dark path, and in those moments Arianne found that she could respect and even admire him. However one thing remained constant throughout all these moments…and that was the fact that all of them ended.

Arianne trotted happily down a well-worn path through the forest, it was a journey she had made on an almost daily basis, and at this point she could pretty much walk this path with her eyes closed as well. Having already finished her duties for the day, Arianne had found that she had a bit of free time on her hand, which meant, as it always did, that she was off to The Vale.

The Vale wasn’t a place one would notice immediately as stunning, it had a subdued and hidden beauty to it that became apparent the longer you stayed there. That, however, was not the reason she was there. No, Arianne was going there to visit her murder of crows. They lived in The Vale you see, so she tried to visit as often as she could.

Eventually Arianne crested a hill, and down below her a green meadow stretched as far as the eye could see, touched with copses of birch trees and some large fir trees as well. Almost this instant she began her descent down into the vale, a small cloud of black flying shapes appeared in the sky, flying exuberantly towards her.

A grin touched Arianne’s face, blossoming into a ridiculously wide smile, as a happy laugh burst forth. The first crow to reach her was the leader of the group, an extremely rare blue-eyed crow whom she had rescued from starvation one winter. He crawed happily in greeting and fluttered by her head, beating his wings almost playfully at her, and Arianne couldn’t help the happy giggles that burst forth from her.

All the toils and traumas of her life were forgotten here in The Vale, she held nothing but happiness, and feeling anything else was not acceptable.

Eagerly she tossed her head and started to run across the wide expanse of green grass, Blue-Eyes flying dead even with her head while the other crows flew alongside and above her. For a few brief moments Arianne could imagine that she was one of them, free to fly wherever she wanted. Reality would sink in eventually of course, but for the moment Arianne was free.

Gradually she grew tired of running through the meadow with her crow friends, and she flopped to the ground with an exhausted whoosh of breath, a grin still hovering on her face. The crows landed around her, preening their sleek black feathers and chattering amongst themselves. It was a surprisingly serene and peaceful moment to witness, the soft blue kiamara lying contentedly on the ground, surrounded by the glossy black crows, an innocent sweetness to it that was quite nearly breathtaking.

Arianne was completely happy in this state, and as always she wished desperately that she could just stay here forever. She liked to imagine that Blue-Eyes always petitioned with her to remain with them, in fact, she wouldn’t have been surprised if that truly was the case, but Arianne’s sense of duty to Raphael prevented her from ever having the will to stay here and not return.

Shaking away the less-than-happy thoughts, Arianne pulled off the satchel she had worn over her shoulders, and opened it up. Grain, vegetables, and some meat contributed their aroma to the air, and the crows began to hop around excitedly, their chatter even more animated. Contrary to most perceptions of the relationship, the crows held no expectations of her, and would come greet and fly with her whether she brought food or not. That being said, during the late autumn and winter months, Arianne always made sure to bring them food to help them through, and they appreciated it. Now, however, when it was summer and food was plentiful, the crows expected nothing from her…so to have food was an exciting treat for them.

With a happy smile Arianne dumped the contents of the bag onto the meadow and moved away slightly. Blue-Eyes took his share first, and then things quickly descended into crow anarchy, as they each contended for the juiciest pieces of meat, the ripest vegetables, and the greater share of grain.

Blue-Eyes hopped over to Arianne and sat beside her with his spoils, eating nonchalantly and completely ignoring the chaos created by the other crows. Arianne giggled slightly and gently nuzzled his sleek black feathers, earning herself a friendly soft click of his beak.

Sighing happily she stretched out beside Blue-Eyes and stared up at the crisp blue sky for a while, a dreamy smile lighting her face, here in The Vale Arianne felt in her soul that her parents were watching her. With a soft smile still lighting her expression, Arianne allowed her head to rest comfortably on the grass, and she slid into a peaceful sleep….surrounded by the whispers of grass and the companionable cawing of the crows, her family.

I can see
When you stay low nothing happens
Does it feel right?

Late at night
Things I thought I put behind me
Haunt my mind

I just know there's no escape
Now once it sets its eyes on you
But I won't run,
Have to stare it in the eye

And so we have come to the very end of this form. Here you can find the light and fun parts of the form; the art credits, soundtracks, inspirations, and some other little things that might be of interest.

Image To begin....who I am and why I want Arianne (#350)
I left this till last, because I really didn't want to distract from her story and learning about who she is. However now that you've gotten to know her I feel I can share this.
So, hello there! I was { .Lady Kat. } but recently decided to change my username to something more....me and less persnickety, therefore I am now just Kat;. I'm a Kiamara mod and currently am the loving owner of four absolutely wonderful kiamaras. Kifo, Rosalie, Remus, and Rafe. Anyone who knows me knows that I lavish time and affection onto my kias, art buying, roleplaying, writing....anything I can really think of. I hadn't planned on trying out for another kia for a long long time. However when I saw 350's design I just....knew. She is Arianne. I could feel her story calling out to me and demanding me to write it and share it with the world....so I did. I know that everyone has a different interpretation of who she is, this is simply the one she screamed out to me when I saw her. I hope you can hear and see it as well.

On many levels she is a manifestation of who I am as a person. The submissive and passive personality, coupled with compassion and a dreamer mentality....I saw it in Arianne, and I like to believe she saw it in me, which is why I was compelled to try out. I won't lie, I feel an intense connection to her, and I feel very strongly that it's a bond that would stick with me forever.

Choosing to try for my final kia is...pretty daunting, the competition is insane, and I can't even begin to explain how stressful it's been with school and the competition dominating my thoughts xD Still, I wouldn't have traded this experience for anything else, as I was writing the form I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with her, and I literally stayed up till 1am yesterday writing 'Toil' and 'Gift' because Arianne had taken over my mind and I needed to write them down. Basically what I'm saying is that she's pretty much taken over my life and I do not regret all the hours put into this competition <3

At any rate, on the off chance that I manage to win I can guarantee that she would be exceptionally well loved and taken care of. She's become extremely precious to me, and most of my thoughts and emotions have been overtaken by her as I'm sure you've gathered!

I have a couple more things I wanted to share about her below, and I really hope you enjoy them <3

Image And now may I present; Arianne's Soundtrack!
Some of these songs were featured in the form with lyrics/song links for you to enjoy. But there are others that represent her beautifully that I listened to on a loop on my iPod. I kid you not, there is an entire playlist dedicated to her on it with songs that she seemed to like and pick out.

(also as a side note, I used this generator: http://fsymbols.com/generators/smallcaps/ for the fancy lettering in this section, some of the quotes/song lyrics, and the gallery. I discovered that they don't show up on my android phone, so if you can't read the titles I'm super sorry and hope you still have phone playing "what song is this" and discovering what they are as you click xD)

Image
Most songs are lyric videos if you care to read the lyrics <3
Not all are necessarily representative of her, some of them are simply songs she likes. I'm quite sure you'll have no trouble telling the difference between those songs, and the ones that represent her.

As a last hurrah, to give you a final chance to hear Arianne speak for herself, I arranged an interview with some typical questions for her, so you can get another glimpse into her personality.

Image

Q: Hello again Arianne! I was hoping you'd be willing to answer a few questions if that's alright?
A: O-oh...umm...well, I'm not sure if Master Raphael would be okay with it....

Q: Not to worry! We cleared it with him, he said it was alright, so long as you don't mind.
A: Ahhh...well in that case I guess I can answer a few questions...

Q: Excellent!!! So for our first question...what exactly do you do for Mr. Giovanni? (Raphael)
A: Ummm...I-I...I basically take care of his...guests? While they...live here. And take care of his property.

Q: I see! So you're essentially like a groundskeeper and head of the household?
      A: Y-yeah...something like that.

Q: Interesting! So then, tell us, what exactly do you like doing in your free time?
A: N-nothing that interesting really... I like to go for walks, long ones in the woods, I sing a lot, and I have a murder of crows that I tend to. Oh! And I love to read whenever Master Raphael gives me some books.

Q: Did you say 'a murder of crows'? That sounds quite gruesome!
A: It's really not, a group of crows living together is actually called that...a murder. I'm not sure why, they're quite majestic creatures really...murder seems a little cruel as a name.

Q: Hmmm...well, I guess you learn something new everyday! But why crows? That seems an odd choice for a pretty kia like you...
A: I love crows, I guess I have some sort of connection to them? I believe that crows are sort of like...our guides to the afterlife, maybe even our silent guardians. Think about it! There are crows all across the world, they're resilient, and intelligent, and they just...seem to live where we do. So I've just always felt we have a connection with them, especially...especially since the time my parents died. I was just a little girl, but I watched the crows, watched them as they flew away with my parents last breath....as though they were flying them away to heaven. I-I guess that might sound a little crazy...

Q: Maybe just a little, but it certainly is an interesting concept! But tell us...where ARE your crows?
A: Oh, well they aren't like pets. They go wherever they want, and when I'm not busy they come and find me. They're very intelligent you know.

Q: It sounds like they certainly are special! Now then...Raphael is quite the handsome kia eh? What's it like...spending all that time with him? Any juicy gossip to share about the two of you?
A: O-o-oh wow, um...no, it-it's really NOT like that at all!! Ummm....Master Raphael isn't meant to be my friend or-or...anything more than that. He just...he took me in when I was lost and alone, I owe him a lot, but it...it's not like that.

Q: Your blush is entirely adorable, and hints at something a liiiittle more than what you're saying. But we'll let you off the hook...for now. Now I've heard that sometimes you go into a trance-like state?
A: W-what? I sometimes have dreams about flying with my crows but...I don't really know what you're talking about... Raphael says I have "little episodes sometimes" is that what you mean? I know I space out and do weird things sometimes but...

Q: Oh wow...you really don't know or remember do you...?
A: Know what? D-do I do bad things?

Q: No! Nothing like that, it's just...oh nevermind, it isn't really important. Ummm...at any rate it was nice talking to you but it appears that's all we have time for.
A: B-but.... well....okay, I guess it was nice to meet you?

Q: Take care of yourself Arianne, you seem like a very...special kiamara.
A: T-thank-you, and goodbye, maybe we can talk again some other time...

This is an important part where I put all the credit for the art in my form <3
As I myself am not artistically inclined, the only thing I can take credit for is the flying crow border/bullet points.

All art was ordered by me apart from the fantastic gift art from Owwl <333 I hope you enjoy seeing all the art, and I apologize profusely if any of the artists have changed their usernames and I didn't notice.
