"Do you have anything here to eat?" you ask. "I know I've been bugging you a lot, but..."

"It's one of those days," Pretty Boy says sympathetically. "Actually, it's a good time for you three to visit."

As he speaks, a pair of cats vanish into a dark corner and return with three mice. They deposit the prey in front of you. The mice smell strange, yet familiar.

"Please pardon them if they taste a little funny," Pretty Boy says. "We've put a little something in them that will give you the energy needed for a long trek. It's a delayed reaction, but you'll feel it by the time you leave."

"It's not that late, is it?" you say in surprise. "Usually, at home, this stuff is given an hour before leaving."

"So you're familiar! That's good." The handsome tom purrs. "You have a few hours. But we can discuss that after you eat."

You don't even bother to respond, just start eating. You could die, you're so glad to eat real meat again. Even with these odd-tasting herbs packed into a cut on the belly, this is true happiness.

You finish eating much faster than your friends, both of whom are trying to ignore the taste of plants. While they work on that, you turn back to Pretty Boy.

"I've got to head over to the take-off point early," you tell him. "I still have to pay someone in food, so I'll need to hunt."

"At least you'll be hunting there," Pretty Boy says. "That road has always been plentiful, even in the snow. I can escort you and your friends over early, if you'd like. Do you want some help finding prey?"
