Pet's name: Basil

[center]Cheese. I hate the name. An annoying little girl gave it to me, and thankfully, that didn't last long.

A normal, everyday pet shop, filled with normal, everyday pets. They sold guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, fish, birds, hamsters, chinchillas, and they even sold lizards and snakes. They had never, ever, in their life sold a rat. The owner, Joseph Walter, despised rats. He said it was because once, when he was very young, a rat scurried into his mother's soup she was cooking on the stove. The rat was killed as soon as it dropped into the soup. His mother did not see this, and soon, the chicken noodle soup turned into tomato. He was served his soup, and when he took a sip, he saw an eyeball of a rat in his soup...so that is why they do not sell rats at that pet store. When the old man died, the store was left to Willow Morgan, who immediately added rats to the list of animals they sold. I was in the first litter. I had many siblings, sixteen in all. Amara, Amanda, Sissy, Sandy, Bill, William, Fiesta, Pompa, Abigail, Teddy, Tabitha, Dill, Sid, Jerry, Tom, and me, Walter. Of course, those are only the names that my mom gave us. We don't get real names unless we are named by humans.

So, once we were in our cage, males and females separated, everybody started crowding around our cage. This was the only pet store for miles, so none of these people have ever seen rats before. Some though we were kinda cute, with our large ears and skinny tail, others, revolting. Giggles and murmurs buzzed through the crowd.

The owner, Willow, pushed through the crowd. "Okay, everyone settle down. They are still animals and rodents, easily frightened. If you would like to adopt one, step forward. Everyone else, move on." Most people stepped forward, only a few left. "Okay, which one do you want?" Willow said to the little girl with brown curly hair, named Annie.

"I want that one." She points to me.

"This one?" I feel cold hands slip around my belly as I am pulled out of the cage. I squirm and squeak.

"Let me down!" I cry, wiggling.

"Hey, hey, its okay." Willow's voice calmed me as she held me close to her.

"Yeah, that's him. I want him!" Annie shrieks.

"Okay, may I ask your name?"

"Annie." The little girl answers.

"Well, Annie, okay. I will go get the box. Can you come with me?" Willow takes Annie's hand. They walk over to the check out area, me still in Willow's arm. I am put in a box, which is closed over top of me. I hear Willow say, "Okay Annie. Now, you know how to pick them up, right? Around the belly with both hands. Also, do you have a cage at your house with food, a water bottle, and fresh vegetables?" She pauses. "Okay! Great job! What are you going to name him?"

"Cheese!" The girl giggles. Cheese? I cringe. Cheese. Cheese. I scream, "No! NO! I am not going home with this girl! She is a LOON!"

"Okay." WIllow answers, then turns to the father. "That will be $20.99." She ignores me, of course.

I hear the crinkling of paper, then the box is lifted into the air, and I am swinging back and forth, Annie humming. I slam my whole body against the box. It slips out of Annie's hands and I fall to the ground.

I get up, a little dazed. I check for broken bones, but thankfully, find nothing except a couple of bruises. I smile and hit the box again, making it turn onto its side. Annie is screaming, and I hear Willow say, "What happened?" I scurried out of the box, and tried to rush away, when Willow scoops me up and holds me in her arm. "Annie, you have to be more responsible." Willow scolds.

"I didn't do anything! He pushed the box out of my hands!" She wailed, pointing at me.

Willow looks behind her, than notices Annie is pointing at me. "Now, how could this precious angel do anything like that? He knows he could've gotten very hurt!" She snuggles me, then puts me back inside the box. "Take good care of him, and be more responsible." Willow turns and walks away.

I squeak, "Come back! Don't let her take me!" But soon, I am being held by the girl, who is swinging her feet around with me in her lap, bouncing me around. I try to push the box over again, but Annie is holding on tight, she has learned her lesson.

I am awkwardly picked up and put in my cage. I immediately dash inside the house, not even stopping to eat some food. I hide in there for hours, hearing Annie whining on the outside of the cage, "COME ON! COME OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" But I don't, because I despise that girl.

Finally, the girl goes to bed. I climb out of my house and climb up the ramp, nibbling on some pellets. I take a drink of water, then lay down for a nap.

"He's out!" Annie shrieks. Its morning, the sun is shining through the curtain. I quickly dash towards the house, but I am scooped up by slimy, small little girl hands. I am put into Annie's lap. I wiggle, but she holds me tight. "I am going to teach you some manners!" She yells at me, as I wiggle. She smacks my side, hard. I try to squirm out of her hands, but she smacks my again, this time with on my nose. I squeal, biting her. She yelps and pulls on my ear. I bite her again, then dash out of her reach, under the couch. "Daddy! I'm bleeding!" She shrieks. Baby. I didn't bite her that hard. I hear the father yelling, "My poor baby! Where is that blasting rodent?!"

"Under the couch!" Annie cries. I hear a clatter, it sounds like something metal. I hear my protection moving, until I am exposed. Before I can move, the man smacks me with his broom, I am flat on my stomach on the ground. I try to get up, but I am swatted down again. I can't move, I am frozen with shock, and my body is too battered. The man picks me up by my back feet and drops me into the box on the floor, taping in shut. There are no air holes, and it is very stuffy. I feel the box being picked up, but I can't move. I am thrown in the trunk of the car, and they drive off.

Half way there, I start choking. There isn't hardly any oxygen left, only dioxide that I breathed out. I feel like I am going to faint. I search frantically for some way to break out, but I don't see any. I start scratching at the cardboard, which starts peeling off. Right when I am about to pass out, I break through, clean air circulating through the box. I gasp for breath, thankful for that tiny hole I had just pierced through the box.

We arrive at the pet store. I am thrown onto the side walk in front of it, the box goes tumbling, I spin round and round, bumping against everything, more bruises.

I lay there, people coming in and out without noticing me, until at closing time, when Willow comes out. She sees the box, and picks it up. She opens it, and gasps. "What happened to you? Your all bruised up, poor thing!"

She takes me to the vet. While I am in the examining room, she calls 9-1-1. "Hello? I am here to report animal abuse. This is Willow Morgan, owner of The Pet Mansion. I sold a baby rat to a little girl named Annie the other day. Brown hair, six or seven. She had her father with her. I just came out of my store at closing time, and I saw a box. I opened it, and I found the little rat. Alive, yes, but beaten badly, and exhausted. The man? He was tall, dark, curly hair, long beard..."

After she hangs up, she comes into the room. "Doctor?" She asks.

"He was pretty beaten up. I put him on oxygen, but there is nothing we can really do. He has to heal by himself, but he seems in great pain. We could put him on pain killer until he heals, or we might have to put him down."

I panic. I know what that means. I have to show him that I will make it, I am just a little shaken and bruised. I try to get up, but for some reason, I can't. It is like my body wont allow me to, saying, "You have to rest, heal. That digging was too much for your condition."

"I am taking him home with me, he will be my pet now. And as for putting him down, no. If there is another option, which there is, I never put animals down. But, can you hold him here, start him on the pain killer, so I can set up a place for him at my house?"

The doctor nods. "I was going to anyways. Okay, pick him up sometime tomorrow."

So I was stuck here, hooked up to machines, laying here, lonely. At least Willow will be taking care of me now though.

The next day I was picked up by Willow. "Guess what? You are now mine, so I will name you, nothing stupid like Cheese though, I promise." It was as if she could read minds. "Your name will be Basil, meaning brave."

We pulled up to her house. It was a mansion! A dog waited for her, who I later learned was named Abby, like my sister. She carried me to this huge room, with wooden floors and tubes everywhere, things to chew on, hay, food, water. "Basil, you will go to the bathroom here." She pointed to a corner where there was shavings. Then she let me out of the carrying case. I sat there, looking up at her. "Welcome home!"

So, I grew up with her. My name is now Basil, not idiotic Cheese. I recovered. I was energetic, fit. I had a huge room to run around it, toys to play with, balls to push. We had a play time every day, where I sat with her for an hour watching T.V. with her. That wasn't our only play time though. She brought me to work everyday, back to the pet shop I was sold to Annie in such a while ago. And while on that subject, Annie's father was arrested, and Annie was sent to a foster home, a strict one, of course. :D

This is a story about animal abuse, which is common today. If people don't act, it will just keep getting worse. Now you see it from an animals point of view.

Pet's name: Ignis

The Four Elements
Long, long ago, there was the Four Elemental Spirits. Ignis, Aqua, Terra, and Ventus.

Image
Pet's name: Aqua
Image
Pet's name: Terra

Ignis, or Fire, is a fiery tempered and greedy Spirit. He wanted power and strength, but he was limited to his boundaries.
Aqua, or Water, is an optimistic Spirit, but she's also kind of strict and motherly.
Terra, Earth, has a strong mind and a stronger heart. He's powerful but careful, and always tries to do the right thing.
Ventus, Air or Wind, is a good Spirit. He does all in his power to treat everything fairly, and he could never take a life.
They lived in harmony for many years, working apart but as one. But one day, Ignis attacked. He was tired of his limitations, and he wanted the world. But the only way to do such a thing was to burn the world, and create a new one from it's ashes.
Ignis sent fire to the four corners of the Earth, trying to burn the three other Spirits. But Aqua had known what was happening and told Terra and Ventus, and they were ready for him. Together, the three Spirits used their power of the Elements to battle Ignis.
The war was short and brutal. When they finally defeated Ignis, Terra encased him in a cage of vines, Ventus surrounded him in a maze of air currents, and Agua covered him in the seas.

Pet's name: Sun Dance

There is a butterfly wolf for every season, planet, and animal. Every time the wolf died, it was soon replaced by another. In order to be chosen to take that high position, there is a certain ceremony. The descendants of that wolf were tested under three categories; dance, voice, and strength. Not physical strength, but leadership strength.

On a sunny, warm day, the sun butterfly wolf passed away. He had been sick for awhile, and finally, the sun disappeared, and the sun leader died. It poured for the rest of the day, no sun in sight.

We, the descendants of this one wolf, were ushered to the court. We had to do the sun dance, which contains swirling around in flames that shine out of the markings on our bodies. The fire comes to life and dances with us.

Some of my brothers and sisters and cousins were rejected, and the rest stepped forward, and followed the highest in the court, the air wolf. She was a kind old woman, but very strict when needed.

"You youngsters need to prove yourselves by singing. As you know, every year, when the moon sets and the sun is just coming up, the first day of the new year, you must sing the sun to prove yourself. It goes like this:

Bright shining sun,
Lighting the world,
The world revolving around you,
My world revolving around you,
Too much sun will burn,
Leave scars,
The scars heal in time,
But not enough sun,
Can cause near irreparable damage,
That can only be fixed by the sun,
The ever burning sun,
Who outshines the moon and the stars,
Who is not always good for me,
Not always best,
But the sun is what i need to survive,
So I must deal with the burns,
Heal within the light of the sun,
To see what is beyond,
I must have the sun,
To guide the way . *"

We all gasp and oohs and ahhs buzz in the small gathering of young butterfly wolves.

She blushes. "Oh, I didn't do that good. Thank you all. But only the true sun wolf can sing that song. And that true wolf, is one of you." She points to us. "Okay, now. We will start now. Individually, you will each sing the song. When everybody has a turn, I will pick five of you, the ones who sang it best, to go on to the last test, the hardest by far."

I was first, Sun Dance. I sang loud and clear,

"Bright shining sun,
Lighting the world,
The world revolving around you,
My world revolving around you,
Too much sun will burn,
Leave scars,
The scars heal in time,
But not enough sun,
Can cause near irreparable damage,
That can only be fixed by the sun,
The ever burning sun,
Who outshines the moon and the stars,
Who is not always good for me,
Not always best,
But the sun is what i need to survive,
So I must deal with the burns,
Heal within the light of the sun,
To see what is beyond,
I must have the sun,
To guide the way."

The air wolf nods, but I could tell she was as surprised as I was. "Okay, Selina, your next." And it went on. Some sounded as good as I did, others, not so much.

"Okay." The elderly wolf says. "The wolves that go on will be Sun Dance, Selina, Ash, Coal, and..." everybody waits in silence, hoping, praying the last name will be theirs. "And Aidan." Aidan gasps in surprise, stepping forward with the other four. "Everybody, else, sorry, but you will be heading home now. Ishban will escort you." A male butterfly wolf standing at the end of the group nods, and walks off with everyone but five stomping glumly behind him.

"Okay, young butterfly wolves, here comes the last test. You must prove you are worthy of this large privilege. You know that tomorrow is the day when your ancestor was appointed sun wolf, and tomorrow will be the celebration and funeral for that great wolf. You each will be given a task, each the same difficulty, and you will have to complete that task. Two wolves will go on. There is one more test, one that none of you have heard of, because only the final five are told. You have to defeat the griffin, which is a mystical creature living deep in the forest. It is a mix between a eagle and lion. It has a knife sharp beak, and claws."

We all took a step back, terrified. "Oh, don't be afraid. I know you are all brave, young creatures, smart, strong. You can do this!" She took a breath. "Okay, now to who does what for the festival tomorrow. Sun Dance, you will be in charge of making sure no chaos breaks out, and you will be taking care of it if anything does happen. Aidan, you will..." she gave us each instructions. "Now, everyone, get some rest. Tomorrow will be a big day." She sent us all of to bed.

I woke up, the sun was shining once again. The festival was today! Then I remembered, I had a large task I had to do. I quickly brushed out my fur, straightened my wings, and lifted into the sky. I landed at the festival grounds, and got right to work doing what I was told to do.

The festival went well. I did well, no fights broke out, I made sure everyone was was happy. Aidan didn't have such luck though. he was told to prepare the food, and watch over the servers. It turned out a mess, one chicken wasn't cooked enough. The water wolf got sick on it, and had to be rushed to the hospital, which messed up my job, because I had to call the ambulance. I did a good job though, because everyone cheered for me.

After the ceremony, the five of us were taken aside. "The special, fortunate wolves that will go on is, Sun Dance and Ash." I and Ash stood up straight, and I tried to look brave. Inside though, I was screaming.

The air wolf led the two of us to the jungle she had mentioned. "Okay girls, I will come back at dawn. By then, one of you should have destroyed the griffin." She turned around, flapped her wings, and graciously flew out of sight.

Ash and I glanced worriedly at each other. I took a step forward. "Lets split up. Remember, we can't help each other destroy the griffin, but we can save each others lives. So, if you or I needs help, we just scream. Got it?" Ash widened her eyes, but gave a tiny nod.

I walked in the away from her, and soon I heard her walking the opposite direction. I dashed ahead, then stopped, hearing rustling. I turned my head slowly. Perched on the top of the tree was the griffin, staring down at me with flaming eyes. What a beautiful creature. I thought. I can't kill it. Suddenly, the creature vanished. I looked around. I saw it dash through the trees. "I mean you no harm!" I told it.

Suddenly, the creature slammed into my left side. I yowled in pain. I jumped up, but it had vanished again. In amazement, I searched for it. Suddenly, it dropped down on my again, slashing my shoulder with its claws. I growled, biting onto it's lion like leg. It roared like a lion, and slashed at my face with its beak. I used my claws to rip at its wing, and it dropped to the ground. Using its lion legs, it pounced on top of me, pinning me to the ground. I pushed it off, then picked it up with my paws by its wing. I slowly dragged it upwards, getting higher and higher into the sky. I was about to let it drop when it slashed at my wing, cutting it right open. I screamed in pain, trying to flap my wings and keep my up. The air just past right through my wing though, and I plummeted to the ground. The griffin, being heavier, fell faster. I heard it hit the ground with a sickening thud. I screamed as I too plummeted downward. I braced myself as I got closer to the ground. I was preparing myself to die, to hear the snap if my skull, for everything to end painfully. I squeezed my eyes shut, ready, when I hit a sharp, thorny thing that dug into my side. It cut through my fur and deep into my skin.

Everything felt like I was watching it from the outside. The air wolf flying through the air, spotting Ash, diving down. Them both flying both up, spotting me, and dashing quickly down to me. I saw myself laying on the griffin, the claws digging into my side and the beak in my head. I saw myself being hoisted up onto the air wolf's shoulders.

I awoke in the hospital. The air wolf, my mother, and Ash crowding around my bed. I groaned, my head throbbing. "What happened?" I managed to whisper.

"You defeated it, the griffin." the air wolf said.

I tried to sit up, but a deep pain shot through my side, forcing me back down. "What else?" I asked weakly.

"You seemed to fall right into its claws. The beak dug into your head. It ripped up your left wing, which was so bad, it, umm, had to be removed...."

I cry out. "Removed?" I struggle to get air in. Without wings, I can't be sun wolf. I can't even be a butterfly wolf!

"Now hold on. You are being fitted for a new wing, just for you. The only disadvantaged it will have to be strapped on." the old wolf said. "And, you are the new sun wolf."

After a couple of weeks in the hospital recovering, I was sent home. I had massive scars, but I was overall okay, besides the wing. The air wolf led me to the thrown. Two very strange two leggeds stood next to the palace. "What are they??" I asked.

"They are humans. Only the high butterfly wolves get to meet them, to know they exist. These humans will take care of you, they will be your servants. They talk our language." She turns to the humans, who are much taller than us. "Abigail, Aaron, meet Sun Dance, the new Sun Wolf." They smiled and introduced themselves.

"You can think of us as your caretakers." Abigail said, Aaron agreeing.

"Okay, you must now share the song with the sun." The air wolf said, leading me away, starting my new, warm life.

Well, from what I've seen you lack description in parts that need it and have too much in parts that don't. Maybe you can make it evened out?
