Can you give us a sample of your writing? Hope this is alright. Just wrote something random I've been thinking of today.
The girl climbed up and over the old, wooden fence with ease, landing on the other side with a soft thump. A herding dog was quick to follow, squeezing through the opening between the wood beams. The dog shoved its graying muzzle into the girl’s hand, begging to be pet. She smiled down at her dog and patted its head. “Ready to go, girl?” The dog’s ears perked up, her two differently colored eyes watching the girl intently. Taking that as a yes, the girl broke into a run, dog right by her side.
She took long strides, running lightly across the damp, vivid green fields. The feel of the ground moving beneath her bare feet, her lungs expanding and collapsing with gulps of fresh mountain air, the pounding adrenaline in her veins, this was what she loved. She worked her way up the steep incline and onto the well-worn forest path. Pine needles jabbed into her skin, but were no harm to the calloused skin on her feet. She ran every day, but only took this route every once in a while. It was special to her, and the hardest to do, but the end result was worth the effort. As she continued along her path, she noticed a saltiness mingling with the pine-scented air. She was close. Just a few more yards, and then she was there.
She emerged from the trees and came to a stop, lacing her fingers behind her head to make it easier to breathe. Her dog, Maddie, soon followed and collapsed at her feet, panting heavily. The girl looked at her dog, her heart constricting. Maddie was getting so old, this climb was getting to be too much for her. She bent down and stroked her dog’s velvet ears, whispering soothing words. After a few moments she stood and walked to the edge of the cliff. She was at the highest point of their little island, and from here she could see everywhere. Behind her, the ground sloped down sharply before evening out into different sized hills and valleys, one of which her village resided. In front of her was a sudden drop into the ocean that spread out as far as the eye could see. She placed her hands on her hips and looked out at the sparkling, deep blue waves. The sky was bright, with small, white clouds about the horizon. As her eyes adjusted to the brightness, the clouds became sharper and clearer, with a more distinct design. She squinted at them, her brow furrowing as her brain scrambled to piece together what she was seeing. Then it all clicked.
“Ships! Ships, Maddie!” She squealed excitedly. The girl clapped her hands, struggling to contain the feelings threatening to burst out. She turned on her heel and sprinted back into the woods, hardly giving a thought to carefully making her way down. All she could think of was the ships, and that her father was on them, finally returning home.
Are you currently working on any books? Several, but I haven’t worked very hard on any of them.
Why do you want to join? I want to start taking my writing seriously and make it more than just an on-the-side hobby. I think surrounding myself with other writers will encourage me and help improve my writing.
Do you have published books yet? Nope.
Do you wish to find a "writing partner"? Not really, I prefer working alone.
What's your favorite genre to read? Write? Almost anything fiction, but I really like fantasy, historical and futuristic with supernatural twists, and adventure. I enjoy romance when it’s a small part of a story, but I don’t like stories centered just on romance, and horror stories scare me so I generally stay away from them.
Were you a member of the old thread?
Yes, page 8.
Earth's crammed with heaven,
and every common bush afire with God
But only he who sees takes off his shoes. . ."A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.
The man who never reads lives only
one."
