I agree with both of you. I sometimes see people spamming up someone else's diaries with stuff that's completely irrelevant to the topic. It might annoy the author and other people trying to read the diary (though it happens on my thread, I never really get mad at them).

Oh, another pet peeve? Copying. I'm not saying that anyone copied, but I do see similar plots, for example, let's say the Blueberry made the Blueberry Dictionary which includes words I made up myself, and then someone walked by and copied the whole thing, without giving credit or even asking for permission. (That didn't happen, just a random example).

One last thing I sometimes rant about is people bumping their diaries. I think a mentioned this before in page 70 or so, but this is something that gets me on the nerves. Bumping just creates lots and lots of spam. You only need to bump when the topic falls off the front page, and a "Bump Topic" button will appear on the bottom of the page, where you can simply bump it without using space (plus it will disappear when another post is made). So the point is, I don't understand why "man made" bumping is necessary among diaries.

I am so peeved right now

(Sorry if this makes the HQ a rant party, I don't know where else to say this.)

*gasp* Never seen a pet peeve on your blueberry ( If thats your only one then ok o3o )

Peeving every day ;)

I swear.. if one appears on mine I'll.. KILL THEM >:U

Here's a little challenge, guys. I know very few of you have your stories set in plain ol' America or whatever. Therefore, describe your world as thoroughly as possible, with the following included-

-The setting country's name
-Languages
-Magic and supernatural forces
-Laws (because I just know that in some of your stories student rights, child labour and laws against harassment/assault literally don't exist)
-Species differences?

This is perfect for all you people who do kinda take your story a little too seriously, like me. Whoops. Or if you just so happened to need to change things around a little for your plot to work...

Here's mine:
Alinia is home to many species and breeds, the most prominent of which being canines and felines. For the most part, it is a fine country, and most do not bother with politics. All they know, and all they need to know, is that they have reasonable laws that don't cause them to be arrested for blinking.

Magic is non-existent, technically speaking, and many treat it as such. But, you say, that's ridiculous! This is a fantasy world! Isn't there some form of non-natural forces acting upon our beloved (or behated) friends?

Eeyup. First off, let me start by explaining the elemental spirits. All may disintegrate as they wish into their respective element, and all may control it as they wish. They sometimes choose to take a mortal body, though to say that is rare is an understatement.

Elemental spirits are generally the same in personality, as they have had all the same experiences. Experiences shape attitude, so there you have it. Said personality is... less than pleasant. Haughty, rude, annoyingly wise, and cruel. They have, after all, been around for centuries, and witnessed all the things that humanity can do.

Nobody knows how said spirits are created, not even the spirits themselves. Not that they care. Their job is to guard the elements, which they mindlessly devote themselves to. There are exceptions, of course, but as they'd just float around alone and unappreciated, most seem to think it's better just to keep to their only purpose.

Natural disasters are, as a rule of thumb, created by them during the few times they are angry or bored. One spirit can control nearly every piece of their element that is within a radius of several miles, so it's ridiculously easy for them to make the world collapse. Some are worried about this. Those people are also worried about how fiercely wolves are hated. Guess who's considered insane.

That said, these are the spirits and their individual abilities:

Air. Their domain is the sky and the clouds. These take care of the delicate balance between oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and everything else. Some wonder why global warming is still a thing when they exist, but the spirits have never really bothered answering. Can teleport, though it has a tendency to make them want to vomit.
Earth. By far the most strong, earth spirits take care of the land animals and the plants. They have terrakinesis, plant powers, and just about everything related to the ground. Their one weakness is that they depend on the fire spirits for sunlight, which is needed for plants' growth.
Fire. These start up fires when called upon, and control them. Nobody even knows why, but they have powers of resurrection in addition to this, though it, like the air's teleportation, makes them physically sick. There have been cases of their physical bodies literally dying when trying to revive mangled bodies.
Water. Their domain is everything aquatic, and they can manipulate it as they wish. They control the water cycle, and thus, rain and clouds are under their control. Alinia utilises this by getting them to get the water vapour condensed without it raining.
Light. From a practical standpoint, if the spirits didn't exist, then these powers would be the most useful, next to Earth. They have the power to summon and destroy light as they wish. It's also worth mentioning that they can create illusions of the visual kind.
Shadow. It might be a metaphor, but it's still strange - why is it that they can create zombies? These spirits have control over corpses, like reanimating them as golems or causing them to move slightly, in addition to their actual elemental powers.

That aside, not all supernatural things are elemental spirits. There are 'guardian phantoms' - ghosts that take guard over normal people, under command from a loved one. These may or may not be from actual dead people, but few really care. They have true magic, though most just focus on a small area of it, for example necromancy. Incidentally the most popular. What a nice coincidence.

Oh, alright, you say. That's nice. And what are the different species like?
Are you asking if we discriminate? If we judge people upon their species? ... Of course! While it's far from the determining factor for most people (excluding wolves, unfortunately), people tend to draw conclusions from it.
Dogs - Idiotic barbarians. This sprouted from the fact that they have yet to fully overcome their instincts, and they actually have to be trained not to chase cars at a young age.
Cats - Elegant and aloof, from how easily domesticated they were.
Horses - Noble, majestic steeds, due to formerly being ridden on by knights.

Each species has their own native language, but in Alinia, English is the official one, due to the majority of its citizens being canines. Of course, the butterfly effect comes into play - what society wouldn't develop in language at least mildly in thousands of years? ' People' and 'humans' are both considered blanket terms for all the different species. It's actually rather informal, but if you were in Alinia, chances are you would rather say 'Come on, people!' than 'Come on, canines, felines, equines, bats, rodents, fish, avians, arachnids, dragons!' (Only to be greeted with a complaint that you were excluding squids.)

Humans are part of no shortage of folk tales, mostly set before an 'apocalypse', where these creatures are both terrible and great, cruel and merciful, greedy and generous. There has been much spsculation on them, but little has been actually proven.

SCREW YOU! you shriek. I ONLY ASKED FOR SPECIES DIFFERENCES, NOT FREAKING PHILOSOPHY! NOW WHAT ARE THE LAWS?

Oh, yes! Good question. Due to the tales of humans being highly believed, we have realised that capital punishment is great. It is in human nature-

I JUST TOLD YOU I DON'T WANT PHILOSOPHY! you cry. I'M LEAVING THIS DAMNED COUNTRY!

As you wish. As I was saying, leaving the country without first registering will cause you to fall into an abyss. That's all, and remember - vote for Amirah!

Woah. That's a lot of writing. I'd 'small' and 'list' that to take up less room on the page.

6% of people love wolves and think they are shy and amazing creatures. Copy and paste this into your signature if you're one of the 94% who think that wolves are vicious, evil animals.

British, you say? Alinia's probably in Asia, preferably Southeast... It might not necessarily be part of ASEAN though. I'd have stuck them all in Singapore, but to do that realistically there would be very few farms. Besides, there'd be a lot of Singlish which is frustrating, as a Singaporean who once tried to write down my classmate's speaking without crying.

"Eh, whatever lah. Would be so paiseh to do that... Now siam, I'm busy, and you're so blur like sotong..."

... Apollo's just hanging 'round proving my point.

-snip-

Character Setting development! Cool! I think this will really help with my story. Thanks!

Country's Name
Barkia. I don't think I've mentioned it before in the story, though. Raindrop lives in one of four states: Howlifornia, Wolfia, Pawington, and Kdoggon (silent k). She lives in Wolfia, the least populated state. The country's capitol is Woofville, Pawington. (Government is in the fourth answer)

Languages
Almost everyone in Barkia speaks the same language, dog, because dogs are nafive to that country. There are several other species who live there though, such as cats, fennec foxes, birds, and sometimes rodents. Most ofthem know dog,but others have to hire a translator or learnthe language.

Magic and Supernatural Forces
There is only one supernatural force in this little utopia I have created: Enchanted forests. (Yes, I know how dumb that sounds) There are three of them in Barkia. It's hard to tell were the enchanted part starts and ends, because the whole thing looks like a regular forest. According to legand, if you spend a week in an enchanted forest, you will most likely gain some kind of power, unless you have done several bad things in your life. Rumor has it that seventeen people have gotten powers, but the others who try were either not prepared for life in nature, had done bad things in their lives.
Powers? Yes! There are plenty of powers. First of all, there is flight. Flight is the most common power because you can be born with wings. Some people go to sorcerers and they get man-made wings, though. Sorcery is a power that takes years to learn and master. Elements can be powers, too. A handful of people in Wolfia can control one element, and about fourteen people can control two. Invisibility is a power you can be born with, but it is very rare. (Sorry, no magic rings). And as you all probably know, time travel exists.

Laws
Laws. [Sigh] A few of the laws, in no particular order:
  1. Theft, murder, kidnapping, ect. are against the law. Duh.
  2. You can't hire people younger that 13 years to do work. The maximum hours of work you can make a teenager do is four. The maximum hours of work you can make an adult do is nine. Having fun is actually important here.
  3. Chopping down trees in natural forests is illegal, but if you grow your own trees (takes 8 days with the special growth syrum), you may chop them down.
  4. Respect the government system. Barkia ia a democracy. There is a president, two representatives from each state, and citizens who can vote. The representatives just report the opinions of the people to the president. There are no political parties. (Like America, but less complicated.)
  5. All species are to be treated with equality; species discrimination can be reported.
  6. Drugs, alcohol, ect. of any kind are illegal. Healers can use herbs to make medicine.
There are more I have in mind, but this covers most of it.

Species Differences
Like I said earlier, Barkia is home to dogs, as well as cats, foxes, birds, and sometimes rodents. There are other species too, but there are very few of them there. And again, treating other species differently is a crime, and it is punishable by 1-6 months in prision. YAY FOR EQUALITY!

So that's my writing dump about Barkia. Sorry for any spelling/grammatical errors; I rushed through this whole thing.
