Roll says... 6: Hey, Knotpaw...
"Hey, Knotpaw?" you say, careful to keep your tone relaxed, despite the sudden nervousness.
"Mm?" She opens one eye. "What's up?"
You gather up your nerve, and then say, "I need your help with something."
"What is it?" She notices your sudden apprehension and slowly sits up, more awake.
"It's..." How to phrase this... "I've uncovered something big, and I don't know who I can trust in the Clan."
She blinks, looking concerned.
"And by big, I mean that cats are dead for this. And that it's not a solo operation." You take a breath, and then look right in her eyes. "Those accidents with the apprentices weren't accidents. And Birchstar's death wasn't incidental."
"Rookpaw..." she says, alarmed. "What are you talking about?"
You look around as a precaution, and scoot up closer to her to speak quietly. "There's a group in the Clan that's trying to control everything from a safe distance. I've been investigating it, and I don't have any solid proof other than my own word and a few old scent trails, but I can tell you at least four cats that know about it."
She stares at you, unsure how to process this. "But...how...are you sure?" she says finally, doubtful.
You toss caution to the wind and tell her everything, including your assistant from ForestClan, including the attempts on your life, even when you roughly interrogated Thriftwhisker.
By the end of it, she's agape. She can't find any words for the longest time, making you worried that you broke her.
"The reason I'm telling you all this," you say after a stretch of silence. "Is because I need someone to help me. Someone in the Clan. You're not very far from becoming a warrior, and you're the smartest one of all us apprentices-"
"I have to doubt that," she says at last, with a shaky smile. "If you caught onto this before the rest of us..."
"That was just curiosity," you say, and flick your tail dismissively. "But I need an older, more developed mind with me on this. I can't trust the warriors, because I don't know how deep this goes. But I can trust you. Can't I?"
She shuffles nervously. "Rookpaw...you know, you put me in a pretty difficult spot."
"I know." You sigh. "It's not exactly fun to know that there's a Clanwide conspiracy that could get you killed."
"Well...I mean, it's just..." She mumbles to herself for a few minutes, before looking up at you again. "Alright. I'll do what I can to help you."
"Great." You grin, but make a point to add, "And don't forget that your life is on the line if you confess to the wrong cat."
"Noted," she says dryly. She stands up, stretching. "Well, what should we do about it, then? My schedule's free, after we bring home the fish."
