My characters never really "talk" to me. They're too busy. Instead, I eavesdrop on their conversations. Like a kernel of an idea or conversation will enter my brain, and I'll be like "Oooh!" and then start listening in on them. And they do try to guide me by not doing what I want. XD But outright talking - not so much.
The only time I sit down and talk to them is when I do character interviews. It's a fun little exercise where you engage in an actual interview with the character. Sometimes it's literally just a transcript, where I'll ask a question, say "What's your greatest fear?" and the character and I enter into a dialogue about it. They may try to evade the answer, and I'll have to put the screws to them. Other times I make it an actual story where I'll assume the role of a character - once I was a police officer interrogating my characters, another time I was a time traveler. XP
That said, I don't think it's so crazy to have characters talking in your head. They are after all, your own creations. It's different from "hearing voices" which are completely out of your control. These are characters and voices you want to hear; that you've created yourself. Talking them is no different then wandering around your own fantasy worlds. ^^

So, I am mostly joining beause the Inklings contest thread suggested I do. I had been sort of keeping an eye on this thread anyway since a few weeks ago when I found it. I am currently working on several writing projects and am constantly thinking about new stories, characters, or worlds to create. I like to write all sorts of different genres, but am especially interested in fantasy, historical fiction, and fiction. Not so much with sci-fi and horror though. Anything else anyone would like to know they will have to ask because I can't think of anything else to put! I welcome any questions though, as I plan to be at least semi-active on this thread. Also I'd like to know a little about everyone else on here that's active. What are your writings tendency's? What genre do you write/like the most? Answer or don't answer, eventually I will learn about everyone in this community, no matter how long it takes.

Welcome!
Trust me, everyone here is very friendly- you will learn quickly about them!
When I read, I like just... anything as long as it's not slow moving and boring. That being said, you could say I like adventure.
Writing for me, I tend to find a plot and work on that- whatever it is. Romance is not my strong suit, but I guess you could say I'm really good at short story writing. Fantasy is fun for me, but sometimes when I read it I just find it ... weird. I don't know how exactly to describe it but it just is.

I judge books by their cover... but haven't we all at some time?
Quick poll:
Do you ever judge books by their cover? Do you think a good cover draws you to the book more than a boring or ugly one? When picking up a book with an unattractive cover- what do you do?
Sort of, Like the spirit animal covers. Have you seen them? They are bright and very interesting. But all the cover doesn't make the book.

Since we;re on character conversations. I usually play out random scenes through certain character's eyes. ANd sometime I literally replay the scence over and over. Until I get bored and discard it for another

I do that a lot... then I'm like "where could I fit this into a story?" but it never fits so you just have to fantasize? Yeah.

3 Simple steps to make your readers hate you:
1. Make an amazing character
2. That character is just everyone's dreams, and is NORMAL- not some CRAZY perfect one
3. Kill them off.
