I judge books by their cover... but haven't we all at some time?
Quick poll:
Do you ever judge books by their cover? Do you think a good cover draws you to the book more than a boring or ugly one? When picking up a book with an unattractive cover- what do you do?
No, I try not to judge a book by it's cover.
However certain covers do attract my eye, and will make me more likely to pick a book up. I'm attracted to covers that depict scenes from the book, or which have a painterly, or otherwise traditional artistic quality. I'm not a huge fan of random objects on covers, or abstracty photos manipulations or whatever they're called, but those types of covers alone won't deter me from picking up and reading a book.
So, yes and no. I am attracted to certain covers, because I'm a visual person who has definite likes and dislikes. But I won't purchase a book based soley on that fact (usually - once I found a cover I thought was so awesome I had to get it - to it's credit the book turned out pretty good). I have to look at the back, and like to at least read through the first paragraph. Even when I'm "judging by the cover", the cover may show something I find appealing in a story - a certain place, or character, or scene, or historical setting that I enjoy reading about.
And again, I can pick up a book with a cover I find pretty ho-hum or dull, and if the back seems intriguing I'll happily give it a chance.
Same with me ^^
I honestly usually do judge a book by its cover. Though if the summary excites me enough I'll check out the first page to see if it can reel me in!
So all around its usually a decent judgement. If the summary is bad and the cover is bad it would make sense that the book wouldn't be extraordinary.
But hm, not just the cover. I always make sure to read the summary. So meh. Kinda.

Hi everyone!
I don't think I'll be posting here very often, but since I love writing, I decided to join. I don't put any of my stories on CS (except for roleplay): I hope that's okay.

I tend to judge by the spine honestly - surprisingly text and name can tell you a bit about the book.
Also -- today at school we had a convocation with a local writer who does fantasy. Aside from how I, obviously, would be invested in the program, she got us out of an HOUR AND A HALF of classes... And yet everyone around me was demonstrating what crappy whisperers they are, being loud and disrupting my experience as well as mocking her for making the mistake of mentioning that her characters get into her head and talk to her.
People were talking about that afterward and making fun of her and called her crazy. I was VERY angry about this, as my characters often outdo that -- occasionally they follow me around all day and I mentally hold conversations with them.
Today at guard, notably, one agent Greyston was keeping me from talking badly of my director at guard who was moving so fast I as a captain had no time to help my struggling group. Thanks, Greyston.
Anyway. Does anyone else have this sort if interaction? Because it seems unlikely that I'm the only one aside from the author. That's too much of a coincidence.

I don't do this with my normal characters I write about. I do do a similar thing with this invisible friend type person I made up when I was around eight and I know is stupid but I've got this entire world with her and talk to her (in my head!) and know I'm controlling her and yet feel I'm not. It's really weird and I don't understand it well enough to explain it, but what's weirder, I've never done it with any character from my writing, and never will write a story with her, and .... yeah it's weird, but I guess I'm not alone in doing this sort of thing!

My characters have never broken the fourth wall to talk to me, but I do spend a lot of my brain power walking them through their day and imagining each scene in detail.
Oh wait, my friends and I do have this one thing that we call the Real-Imaginary World. We talk about that world as if it were real and we enter the world through my closet (in theory) or by crawling under one of my friends' beds. There are unicorns and dragons and a sassy butler and a Spanish Merman and so much more. It's quite complex.

The only time my characters have talked to me was when I was dealing with a particularly annoying character to write. idk why, I just couldn't understand. Then, I wrote out a conversation between me and her with basically me asking her why she was so boring. It wasn't very long, but it really helped me and now I understand her.

So, I am mostly joining beause the Inklings contest thread suggested I do. I had been sort of keeping an eye on this thread anyway since a few weeks ago when I found it. I am currently working on several writing projects and am constantly thinking about new stories, characters, or worlds to create. I like to write all sorts of different genres, but am especially interested in fantasy, historical fiction, and fiction. Not so much with sci-fi and horror though. Anything else anyone would like to know they will have to ask because I can't think of anything else to put! I welcome any questions though, as I plan to be at least semi-active on this thread. Also I'd like to know a little about everyone else on here that's active. What are your writings tendency's? What genre do you write/like the most? Answer or don't answer, eventually I will learn about everyone in this community, no matter how long it takes.

I tend to do that, too. I also like to play scenes that I might put into my story.{Like, literally. I play my book-in-the-making. Imaginary game is a wonderful thing.}
