Roll says... 6: Climbing.
"We can do some climbing," you say. "I'm still pretty shaky with it."
Applefoot leads you to a taller tree than last time and has you scale up it, which is still pretty simple, but her next challenge makes you a little shaky. She wants you to leap from one tree to another. The next tree is only a few tail-lengths away, but you have serious doubts that keep you pressed up against the trunk for a few minutes.
"It's not even that far, Rookpaw," Applefoot calls up. "The branch is sturdy. Just jump."
You make a whining noise in response, but slowly start inching out for the next branch.
"You should probably get a running start first."
In a moment of panic, you sprint for the end of the branch and take a flying leap, limbs outstretched and claws unsheathed. All in all, a pretty good execution, if the branch's weaker end hadn't chosen this moment to snap, leaving you gripping about five inches of skinny wood as you fall through the air. You land on your feet, but there's a shot of pain through one of your legs and you fall over when you hit the ground.
Applefoot jogs up. "You alright?"
You're not too sure yourself, and examine your left front leg. To your relief, it isn't broken, but it hurts like foxteeth, so when you get up you're relegated to a hobble.
"I've been better," you say, and give her a stink eye. "Turns out that jumping out of trees was a terrible idea."
"I didn't know the branch was going to fall apart," she says, slightly defensive. "There's a reason I'm called -foot, not -tail."
You consider making a snide comment, but instead you just limp towards home. Applefoot, like always, has no real idea about how to handle this situation, but she sticks around to escort you until you get into camp.
Divercloud informs you that it isn't a break in the bones, but he wants to keep you for a while anyway just in case. He promises that you'll be out by the afternoon if it's just a sore leg. You don't know that you trust him.
Speaking of trust...
As you sit in the rather comfortable patient nest, you contemplate the events thus far. You've got murdered apprentices, or attempted murders in any case, a suspicious accident involving Birchstar, and about four cats that are involved thus far, two of which are running the Clan at the moment. At least two of them know that you've been investigating, but you can't be sure they haven't told the others. How big is this exactly? And what's the goal?
You look over at Divercloud, who's sorting some herbs. Maybe you can pressure him to tell you what he knows. There's no one else around right now - now would be the best time.
What are you hiding?
I know you're up to something.
I wanted to ask...
What did Eveningstar hide?
Say nothing.
