the door suddenly swings open and minimire runs in

lalvon started forward but the guard beside him gripped his arm tightly

why should i? he fell drank and fell asleep when he was supposed to be on watch. so tell me, minimire, why should i spare your brother?

minimire went silent

he's the only person i have left she said, barely a whisper

lalvon tensed

very well the king gave a nod and the guard behind galmire pushed him to the ground

minimire ran towards him, helping him up and leading him out, not before thanking the king

why? why did you help me? galmire chokes out as minimire laid him on his bed

why should i not? you are my brother. it is my duty. minimire replied without hesitating as she prepared a wet cloth

you should have just left me there. i could have handled it myself galmire spat and pushed minimire's hand away from his face

if minimire was hurt, she didn't show it. she knew that galmire hated her. it was because of her their mother died. but he's her brother and her mother's dying wish was for them to protect each other.

she did not want to deal with this now. she summoned a servant into his room and left quietly without another word. she was shocked to see lalvon pacing outside his room and he immediately grabbed her arm and dragged her into his room

what are you doing? let go! minimire shouted once he pulled her into his room.

he complied and released his grip

i'm sorry he said after he closed and locked the door and was now standing directly in front of her

minimire sighed and took a step back looking at the ground

minimire tried to hold it in together but failed and she let out a small sob followed by her continuous tears that continued flowing, unable to stop it.

5 years later, they meet again. demitri saw benedict kissing another woman, so he thought they had broke up. but then he realized that they were still together. so benedict had been cheating on her, and she knew.

when wizards, regardless of male or female, reach the age of 17, they will go through a series of ten trials to determine whether or not they are ready to be chosen. if they fail more than three trails, they will have to wait for another two years. once they passed at least seven or all ten trials, they will be able to choose their dragon. when choosing a dragon, the wizard or witch will have to try to gain its trust. if the dragon fights back, it means they will have to look for another one. once a bond is created, the bond will stay forever until one of them has passed. if a witch or wizard dies, the dragon will fly back to its homeland and only a year later will it be able to choose another rider. for the rider however, once the dragon dies, they will choose another dragon just after a week later because they will need dragons in their combat. however, the witch or wizard may take however long they want until they feel they are ready again.

janelle on the other hand, was poor.

janelle and jason had quite a close bond in school, until she had to move away due to the loan sharks going after her alcoholic father. jason told her that he could clear her father's debts but she kept denying him.

yvonne and jason were work partners. janelle didn't feel anything for jason but with him, it's different. for years he had been chasing her, hinting her, but she was very oblivious. one day, jason had actually told her his true feelings. she wanted to tell him that she actually feels the same, but she was pulled away by her friends. she tried to call him but realized that he changed his number, so she had no way of contacting him.

and for yvonne, she had been trying to get his attention for years now, but he never showed any interest in her. during a few drunken experiences, she kissed him. jason was too shocked to push her away, but he did when he saw janelle looking at them. she got the wrong impression and thought that they were together. so she started avoiding him because she did not want to be a girl that tears up a relationship for her own sake. she also started avoiding him because she thought that he played with her feelings.

with still no way of contacting him, or jason to contact janelle, they did not speak for weeks. until one day, when she went to his company because yvonne asked to meet her, the loanshark followed her in and started to drag her out despite her protest and the other people who were watching. suddenly, a hand shot out and pushed the loanshark's hand away. it was jason. because he was the director of the company, he told the loanshark to leave before he calls the police, which he did after making threats to janelle. yvonne witnessed the whole thing.

afterwards, jason brought janelle to a nearby cafe and bought her a drink. again, he told her to let him help with the debts but she denied him once again. after a few moments of awkward silence, jason finally asked why she kept on avoiding him and so she told him everything that was on her mind. janelle had never been very good at lying, especially when it came to hot, cute guys who was staring at her intensively. but before she could finish, jason got up and kissed her, hearing enough. when he broke it off, he told her how wrong she was and that yvonne was the one who kissed him. all the while, yvonne witnessed everything again, having followed the pair.

over the next few months, janelle and jason have a very stable relationship, while yvonne went "mad" with jealousy and revenge. she wanted to "get rid" of janelle and have jason all to herself. one night, she asked him out through the phone, telling him that she was in danger and she needed him. she was crying. jason was having dinner with janelle with then, but after receiving the call, he told her what happened and they both drove to where yvonne was.

there, he told her to stand guard outside while he went in. it turns out that the call was a prank and that yvonne was really drunk. he got so furious he was ready to leave when yvonne jumped into his arms and kissed him because she knew janelle was watching. yvonne pretended to apologize and asked him for some water. while he went to fetch some water for her, yvonne told janelle that jason had been cheating on her. she got really sad and mad and ran off. when jason came back, he offered to drive yvonne back when he realized janelle was missing. he called her cell but she did not pick up. he got really worried but yvonne kept pestering him to take her home.

when he finally found janelle a few days later, he realized that her eyes were puffy and there were dark cycles under her eyes. he asked her what happened but she refused to meet his gaze or talk to him. he was going to bring her to his car but she shook him off her, yelling at him not to touch her. he was shocked at asked her what happened. which she told him truthfully again. jason got so mad that yvonne had lied to both him and janelle. he apologized to her and told her it was not true. but janelle said that she did not know if what he was saying was the truth.

she decided to break it off with him, saying that too much is happening in her life too fast for her to handle. her mother goes missing and then now this. she told him that she needs some time alone, to which jason respects her decision. they decide to still remain friends though.

Daphne, Alexia, Venus, Abigail

Daphne, the popular, sweet, "pure" girl, likes Kadean, but he doesn't like her, though they are friends. One day, she invited her entire cohort to her house for her birthday party.

While Alexia was exploring Daphne's new house, she managed to get herself locked in the room full of books somehow. Unbeknownst to her, Kadean was in that room as well.

Alexia was a bit annoyed by his calm and sarcastic demeanor but tried her best to ignore it. Though he kept teasing her when she tried to find ways to get out, making her stutter a lot. and alexia isn't one who stutters. she wanted to message daphne but her phone died, and kadean left his in the car.

they stayed in the room for close to about four hours with no one noticing they are missing. by that time, it was already night time and the two actually has a few decent conversations. another few minutes passed and alexia fell asleep. kadean placed his jacket over her and waited until the party ended.

instead of daphne entering, it was venus who entered the room. she was shocked to see kadean and abigail inside it together but kadean told her there was nothing going on between them. but he did tell her not to mention this incident to daphne or anyone else.

but after that night, the two exchanged numbers on pieces of paper, and he had been messaging alexia ever since. but not in school though. somehow, these two have one thing in common, they can keep talking on the phone but can be awkward in real life. but it was as though fate was trying to bring them together, they kept bumping into each other at the same time, once and twice might be fine, but three times and the fourth might be too much of a coincidence.

they didn't tell anyone that they were friends though. alexia especially didn't want to tell daphne because she knew she could be jealous and also because she knew that daphne had a lot going on at home right now and alexia did not want to add on more pressure.

still over time, daphne confessed to kadean againa and again, only to be rejected again and again. all the while, kadean was sorting through his feelings. he was unsure if he liked alexia. but he decided to keep his feelings and thought a secret to everyone. however, alexia was very certain that she has feelings for kadean.

over time, the two began to speak comfortably face to face, they joked a lot and became really close. they would often meet after school and study together. alexia would tell her friends that she's meeting someone but would not tell them who, this made them suspicious and it threatened their friendship. kadean started walking her home one day when she knocked into him and he helped her pick up her papers, and from then on he started waking her home. shortly after, he secretly waited outside her house to surprise her so that they can walk to school together. kadean came over to her house a lot but he never allowed her to his, saying his house was messy etc but alexia suspected there was something more to it. though she never pursued. kadean has abusive parents, well father actually, but his mother turns a blind eye to it so she might as well have been abusive too.

finally, daphne spotted them going to school together and got really fed up. she confronted her after kadean left and demanded to know how they were friends. alexia told her that it all started that night during her party, and told her how they slowly became friends, which was close to a year ago. daphne got really pissed off, saying that she lied to her and hid their friendship from her for close to a year and called off their friendship.

she began to avoid kadean after that incident for a week but he managed to corner her and when she broke down and confided in him, he comforted her. that was when their relationship started. and they had a great time for a few months.

however, because his family and daphne's family is very close, their parents decide it was best for them to see each other. it is also revealed that kadean was abused him his father a lot. he tried to reason with his parents but they threatened to expel alexia if he does not comply since they are also on good terms with the school principal. kadean was also from a rich family while alexia came from more of a middle income family so kadean's parents looked down on her.

that was when he broke up with alexia. [hardest thing - 98 degrees]

she wanted to know what she did wrong but kadean kept avoiding her. now she had no friends, and no one left to help her. one time, she knocked into kadean and her things fell all over the ground, but he only sneered and walked over them, even though it killed him to do so. he wanted to make sure that everyone saw that he was over alexia so that she won't be expelled.

kadean made a deal to his parents, saying that he will break it off with alexia but he will never get together with daphne because she's not his type. they agree, but only if he walk daphne home and do what he did with alexia to daphne. they hope that he will slowly learn to like the girl, but kadean made a silent promise to himself that he will not and that he will return to alexia.

meanwhile, alexia have been breaking down a lot in school because she has not friends and she felt the isolation consume her. she's starving herself because she dare not eat alone in the cafeteria. she's a very, very, self conscious person. however, unbeknownst to her, kadean has been watching her back ever since the break up and it's also killing him to see the girl he loves break apart. many times he just wanted to be there for her, but he can't risk her future here.

Jacob was the bad boy in school. Everyone knows that. Every girl loves him and adores him. He knows it, everyone knows it. And he loves the attention. But he was never in any serious relationship. Just fooling around breaking girls' hearts. Jacob was abusive too, well sometimes when he got really mad. Not physical abuse, but mentally. He would make hurtful comments to the girls who tried to stay with him or continue their relationship after shagging to drive them away.

Haley was no one in school. She was invisible. She had no friends, no family. She was an orphan. And like every other girl, she fell in love with Jacob. But the only difference, she would not give up. She had no family, no one to guide her. And the only person to have ever 'loved' her to shag her was Jacob. [Well she got drunk so...] And like usual, he would say hurtful words to her but Haley had grown used to it, being tormented regularly in her childhood by other students because she was an orphan.

When Haley told Jacob her story, something in him almost snapped. He felt something weird, something, new. Sympathy for the girl. But he pushed that feeling away and it disappeared as soon as it came.

Day after day she would wait for him at the school gate and he would ignore her. She would seat with his group of friends at the cafeteria and they would make fun of her. She was hurt yes, but she didn't show it. Not to them, not to anyone. She played along and acted dumb, as if it was fine to her, but it was not. Day after day he would try to break her, mentally. She would not give in to him, and it just angers im more.

One day, Haley was waiting for Jacob to arrive to school, but he didn't. And he did not turn up for a whole week. It was torture to both him and her. Haley had asked his friends where he was but they ignored her and when she finally pestered them till their limits, one of them yelled at her that he was at a hospital.

She went there straight after school and was shocked to see him so badly brusied and injured. She asked him what happened but he ignored her. That was when she snapped and shouted at him about how worried she had been. He finally told her then. It turns out that his group of friends were not his true friends at all [not that he didn't already know that] they ganged up on him and took his place as leader and took his money.

Haley then comforted him, not that he needed any comforting. Jacob then admitted that he indeed had some feelings for the girl. She was delighted, to say the least. And she, well, she kissed him. Quite unexpected actually.

To say their relationship was unstable was an understatement. Now that they were 'officially' together, Haley devoted most of her time to Jacob. She was not afraid to show him off to the school, but he was. He would act mean to her and still hurt her in school, making other girls think she was lying and crazy. But he would always make it up to her when they're at home [she lives with him now] and she would always accept his apologies.

But one day, Jacob really took it too far. School ended late for her since she needed to help out with the school's club so she ended up going home alone. When she entered 'their' bedroom, she was shocked to find Jacob with his top off kissing a girl on 'their' bed. The other girl was only in her undergarments and both her legs were wrapped around Jacob's waist.

Her shocked sound made Jacob and the girl look up. There was something in Jacob's eyes that looked almost like surprise and regret, but it disappeared as soon as it came. Without saying anything to Haley, he shoved the other girl out of his house and threw her clothes to her. He then went up to take a shower, without even acknowledging Haley.

Went he went out, he could not find Haley anywhere. She had left, with only a note on his table saying "I Give Up...". She had left him, all because he couldn't control himself. All because he couldn't rid his old ways. He felt something in him break when he saw the note. It was then he realized he fell too deep for Haley. He went to rage mode then. Smashing, throwing and kicking everything in sight.

He went all around town to find her but to no avail. It had started to rain then and that was when he spotted his Haley, crouched down at the corner of the bus stop. She was unconscious from stress and dehydration. Jacob brought her back home and changed her wet clothes to a pair of dry ones. When he thought she was asleep, he apologized to her. He admitted that he had never done this before, he had never apologized to someone he had actually loved before. Heck, he told her, he had never loved anyone as much as he loved her before. He then told her what he admired about her and how slowly, she managed to make him fall for her. And after his speech, he kissed her forehead.

The next day when she woke, she was both angry and surprise to see Jacob. He greeted her as though nothing happened but that made her ever more angry. She started hitting his chest and talking very fast as tears started flowing down her face. But Jacob wrapped her in a tight hug and apologized softly to her again. Haley then calmed down, knowing how hard it was for him to say sorry.

Jacob tried to change after that day. He tried to make her smile more, he teased and hurt her lesser, though sometimes he would still do it unintentionally. He is also not afraid to show Haley off anymore.

Things have been going good for a couple of days but then suddenly, he disappeared again for a few days. Haley got really worried, she had a feeling that his 'friends' had something to do with it. She had not been able to concentrate in school or even learn anything.

He finally returned but his angry returned with him. Like the last time, he was covered in bruises and when Haley asked him where he had gone and what had happened, he lost it and shouted at her. His hands slamming on the wall at either sides of her head, caging her in and this frightened her. Jacob had never been this mad with her before.

When he saw he fear in her eyes, he retreated and walked up quietly to their room, locking the door behind him so that Haley could not follow him. She ended up sleeping on the couch. But around midnight, Jacob came back down and carried her to their room and they slept together with his arm wrapped protectively around her waist.

older sister persuades younger sister to follow her on another journey.

older sister has always been far away from home, going on adventures, looking for new dragons with her boyfriend she encountered on one of her adventures. she has been around dragons more than humans some believe. she was never around much for younger sister and their father. and younger sister does not hate her for it, she just wishes she could stay longer every time she came home. younger sister really dislikes dragons. when their father died due to old age, she allows older sister to persuade her into joining her on another one of her adventures, saying they found this new island and wanted to explore it. younger sister was hesitant at first and she blames older sister for father's death but never said anything.

but during the voyage, something attacked their ship and they crashed on another unidentified island. however, older sister is missing and it's up to younger sister and boyfriend to look for her. the two don't get along well. along the way, they encounter a new species of dragon, possibly last of it's kind, very small but smart, that helps them out.

younger sister learns more about dragons and realizes how wrong she had been about them. she also learns more about her past and how her childhood had sort of been a lie. that her mother was actually a dragon shapeshifter or something. hence why she never met her mother for it had been forbidden for humans and 'dragons' to mate.
