Dear Diary,All right, time to continue explaining.
So, I got downstairs, and El and Jace started to explain.
My mother, River Barker, was a Shadow Slayers. The Shadow Slayers are a group of elite demon hunters. Of course, I thought this was some joke. I mean, Shadow Slayers? Really? It sounds like the plot of a cheesy book. And demons weren't real...or so I thought. They took me down another flight of stairs, and was shown a row of cages - filled with dangerous beasts - demons.
Jace insisted it was in my blood as we went to a different room. This one was a stadium of sorts, and one of the demons - a wolf-like creature - was chained on one side. Another dog, and older, more elegant one, was watching us.
"Are you sure she can do it?" she questioned Jace.
He nodded. "She'll understand. She can do it."
"Fine." the dog handed me a scythe. "This was your mother's weapon of choice."
"My mother?" I asked, and she nodded. "Did you know her?"
The dog nodded. "Yes. First, you must show yourself that you are a Slayer."
My tail drooped. "I'm not!"
She shook her head, backing into the stands. "Jace."
Across the stadium, Jace broke the latch on the demon's chain, and time slowed.
The wolf-shadow dashed at me in slow motion.
Swing! My mind shouted, and I swung the scythe. It sliced through the beast, and it disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
I stood shell-shocked, blinking as the smoke began to clear.
Clapping in the stands caught my attention. I didn't know who I was anymore.
"Well done!" the wolf, who I now know is named Torunn, said. "You're right, Jace. She's River's daughter. Take her to he corridor, and I'll have Turret show her around in a bit."
I didn't speak until we got to my room.
"Eleanor left some clothes for you," Jace said.
I immediately demanded where my dad was, where I was, and how these dogs knew my mom.
Jace sat down with me and told me I was in the local Slayer home. They all lived here, too. Well, now. He, El, and the others were assigned here, and I was their mission, once they'd found out I was here. He also said that they were looking for my father.
"I have to go, get some rest and change. Turret will be here to show you around later."
With that, he left.
I opened the drawer on the bedside dresser, and inside was the dress I'm now wearing. A note was on it:
So I'm sitting here waiting for Turret. I think I'll est now, see you later.

Here's that mysterious Torunn...:
