Does anyone have any tips in shortening short stories? I have a story that's around 593 words long (it was around 700 words when I first finished it) and the word limit for the competition is 500 words, and I've already shortened so many parts of it I don't know what else to take out. 3:

I'm not sure if you're allowed to post cx, so just PM if no.
I recommend shortening the words as much as you can. It is, to it's. Scour your story. Even some places that you may not have thought of (shall not into shan't, etc)It's more casual and easier to seem like the character is really alive.
And there are often a lots of places in a story that... Are unnecessary. You may think that that was funny joke that was pretty cool to involve in the story, but chances are, no one's gonna miss it!
Feel free to PM me the story and I can help more c:.

I'm gonna add on to this. If you are a person who uses a lot of descriptive words, try cutting a few out. Keep your descriptions short and sweet, short stories don't have a lot of room for fancy description. Focus your words on the action of the story.

"Not particularly."

Thanks to you both! <3 I'm going to go try that out! I do tend to be overly wordy so that's probably the reason lol
