"Charlie will know something, at least," you say after a moment of thought. "There's no way she wouldn't."

Scat nods approvingly. "Thimble'n'Icanhelpifyouwant."

"That'd be great," you say immediately, and then verbally backtrack with, "I mean, if you want to, I don't want to bug you guys..."

"Igottadebt, she'dlovetohelp." Scat waves his tail dismissively. "We'llgothroughthisneighborhood."

"Be careful," you say quietly. "I don't know if they'll tolerate you alone here."

"Sure." Scat leads you back down the hill to Thimble's house.

You don't bother to wait until the sun rises. Instead, you leave him in the yard and jog back into the more urban area of town. You have no way of knowing exactly where Charlie is, but you have a vague idea of how to find her.

Luckily, it only takes you a few minutes of peeking down corners and alleys to discover a tortoiseshell trying to flip the lid off of a trash can. She's so focused that she doesn't notice you, even when you're standing a few tail-lengths away.


Hey, you.

Do you need help?

I looked over at the molly. "Do you need help?"

"Its latched" I simply say, eyeing what was holding the lid shut

I open my mouth to ask her something, when I realize that she may be more inclined to help me after I help her. "Do you need help?" I ask, sure I can work a lid off of a trash can.

"It's latched." I'm pretty sure I could get that open after the cage stunt, and maybe she'll be more willing to talk to me if I lend her a hand.
