Weaselstar had left early in the morning. He promised he’d be back, but no one knew how long that would take. Of course, everyone understood. The loss of a friend was hard sometimes, but especially if you knew each other for a life’s time.
“He’s going to see my mother.” Swanpaw meowed, huffing as she cleaned up her nest “I should really go after him.”
“But he left hours ago.” Newtsnap protested “You won’t be able to catch up, and the sky looks really angry. I don’t want you to get caught in a storm.”
“It’s alright, there’s practically a trail leading to TwistedClan at this point.” countered the she-cat.
“Still,” her companion stuttered “You just got back-”
“Newtsnap, your dad died.” Swanpaw said gently “My dad is grieving him. You know how close they were. I know you feel it somewhere inside. You’re not as emotional and that’s ok! But...Weaselstar is. And he just really needs some support right now.” Newtsnap sighed and looked at his paws. He wasn’t exactly over grieving his father. He allowed himself his vigil to cry, which Swanpaw helped him through, but after that he knew Droserathorn wanted him to be strong for his sisters. Oleanderthorn had Canishowl, but Seedshine was more or less alone. He had moved his nest closer to hers for comfort, but he could still smell the mourning on his sister’s pelt. Swanpaw had been away for many moons. She had gone through a lot, and one of the things she had required was a sense of mystery. Before her kidnapping, Swanpaw had shown her emotion on her metaphorical sleeve. But now, Newtsnap couldn’t tell what she was feeling. And something about that really bugged him.
“I know.” he said after a few moments, voice softer “I just...it was so hard living without you here.” He meowed this almost as a whisper, and Swanpaw stopped moving. “You were gone for so long...I don’t want you to leave me again so soon.” His muscles tensed. “Us. I meant us. You know, like the Clan. I don’t want you to leave the clan so soon.” Swanpaw’s flank deflated with a sharp exhale.
“Newtsnap.” She murmured. Her tone caught him off guard. He was expecting a sharp retort, but her voice was silky, almost saddened. It was as if she was going to regret what she was about to say. “Newtsnap, we’ve been best friends since we were kits. I know how you feel about me.”
“You know?”
“Any cat with a pair of eyes knows.” She giggled. At this point, she turned around. Her eyes were conflicted. Swanpaw approached him until their whiskers were almost touching. “And you should know how I feel about you.” She gave him a knowing look. Any other moment, Newtsnap would have been elated that the she-cat of his dreams finally reciprocated his feelings. But now, he knew not to get too carried away. He braced himself for a ‘but’...which never came. Swanpaw continued. “Maybe in a few moons we can explore this further.” She offered honestly “But now, we’re not in a good place. You need to work out your emotions, Newtsnap. You don’t have to put on that brave face. I know you’re hurting. Once you feel better, I don’t want you to feel responsible for anyone else. You don’t have to make anyone happy except for yourself right now. Mourn your father. Then, come talk to me, alright? I won’t leave. I’ll stay here...for you.” She leaned forward and licked Newtsnap’s forehead. “Take care of yourself. If you need me you know where to find me.” She murmured, nuzzling him beneath his jaw. With that, she turned and left him in the dim den. As soon as she had said the words he felt a lump rise in his throat. She cared about him and that made him soft. A dam was about to break, and he quickly scurried out of the den and out into the territory, where he wailed and screamed and cried up to his father to come back down. Droserathorn heard him, of course, and he ached for the ability to comfort his son, but he could only watch as Newtsnap thrashed about until he eventually grew too tired to stand, collapsing into the mud.

Lionspark purred as Spinelkit tripped over his paws. She and her sister, Opalkit, were getting big, but they still enjoyed playing around their part-time dad. Lionspark had agreed to watch over the pair as Cypresstail went on a walk. The two toms had been getting rather close, and whenever he walked by, Lionspark felt a squeezing in his chest. He ached for Cypresstail to love him back. Of course, he hadn’t told him his feelings. Cypresstail had two litters already and one on the way...with she-cats. Sure, a cat could love both, but Cypresstail hadn’t given any signs that he was like that. Though Lionspark had to admit, everyday Cypresstail subtly moved their nests closer together. He always came to Lionspark when he had issues caring for the kits, even though the ginger tom wasn’t a father himself. But he did consider Spinelkit and Opalkit partially his children. Maybe one day they would actually raise a family together...as mates…

⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜

Turtletoes was sprawled on her back, resting her head on Cometcrash’s belly. Her face rose and fell with every breath the chubby tom took. Her tail was lazily intertwined with Stratusflight’s. At first many cats were unsure about the thruple’s displays of affection, but now mostly everyone accepted it. And those who didn’t said nothing.
“I just realized something.” Stratusflight said abruptly. Her two companions hummed in nonchalant wonder. “We’re not actually mates, are we? Like, we haven’t asked each other. We just assumed that we were.”
“Are you unhappy?” asked Turtletoes. Worry suddenly drifted in her head.
“No, no of course not.” Stratusflight chuckled, flicking the she-cat with her tailtip “I just think it’s funny, that’s all.”
“Well, I think we should change that.” Cometcrash hummed “Stratusflight, would you like to be my mate?”
“Of course.” Stratusflight purred “Turtletoes will you be my mate?”
“Absolutely.” Turtletoes grinned “Cometcrash? Would you like to be my official partner?”
“Why did you say it so weird?” The tom snorted. After a sharp jab from Turtletoes, though, he settled in with a sigh and nodded dutifully. “Yea, I guess I would like that very much.”
“Cool.” Stratusflight yawned, curling back up against Cometcrash. They had been mates for a while, but now, it was official.

Kitewhisker sneezed. She groaned as her head thudded down on the shaman den’s floor. Her face was hot and it seemed as if every muscle in her body was crying. Her chest was heaving and her stomach was empty. The deputy hadn’t been able to hold anything down for more than a few hours. Her head hurt from the small seizures she had been suffering from. Oleanderthorn was stumped. She had never seen anything like this, and the Guardian hadn’t either. The cats had denominated the mystery disease as Whiteshock, coming from the white patches of skin now visible from Kitewhisker’s once thick pelt, and the shocking jolts of the seizures. Kitewhisker’s remaining fur hung loosely from her hip bones, which jutted out from her body. She hadn’t been eating at all and the deputy weighed less than Tigerpaw. She was kept in the far room of the shaman’s den, with limited contact with everyone. She had only started exhibiting signs of the new illness a few sunrises ago, but she was already in such bad shape that Oleanderthorn worried about her. Luckily, no one else in RavenClan had exhibited any symptoms. At least not yet.

⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜

Meanwhile, the cats of RavenClan were going about their usual day-life. Featherchest was warming herself in the sun as Seedshine groomed her back.
“You won’t believe who I met at the gathering!” She meowed, whiskers twitching in delight. Seedshine hummed and Featherchest continued. “His name is Cloudstripe. He’s a little grumpy, but super sweet once you get to know him! We even started flirting towards the end. I think he really likes me.” She felt Seedshine’s lapping stop.
“Wh-What?” She whimpered “B-But Featherchest, we’re...we’re mates! I love you! And he’s a tom. I thought you didn’t like toms.”
“I’m pan.” Featherchest meowed warmly “And it doesn’t mean I don’t love you either! I just...I think I like Cloudstripe too.” Seedshine flattened her ears and wrinkled her nose, eyes narrowing.
“Am I not enough for you?” She grumbled, flicking an ear. She looked so much like her father in that moment that it took Featherchest a moment to realize it was her own love. She answered steadily.
“Of course you are! Why can’t I love more than one cat. Skinknose’s mate is like that. Cometcrash, Stratusflight and Turtletoes are like that! Why can’t we be like that?”
“Because I hardly know this tom!” Seedshine cried.
“I’m not asking for you two to become mates right now. Guardian’s sake, I don’t even know if we’ll become mates anytime soon. But I really do like him. Besides, he’s in another Clan. You’re here, you’ve always been here. You were first in my heart and you’ll always be here. But I have plenty of love to give to both of you!” As Featherchest spoke, she could see Seedshine begin to relax. She gave a huff of air.
“I suppose you’re right.” She admitted “I’m sorry I snapped at you like that. I love you more than the world, and I support you no matter what. If Cloudstripe is okay with it, I wouldn’t mind you taking both of us as your mate.” Featherchest let out a large purr and pulled her mate close to her and pressed her muzzle into her neck.
“Don’t look so worried.” She mumbled “He’s a good tom.”
“He better be.” Seedshine scoffed “If he’s not I’ll-”
“Shh.” Featherchest chuckled, raising a paw to her mouth “Let’s just enjoy the sun, yea?” Seedshine’s eyes softened and she nodded. And the two did just that, while their deputy was willowing away in the dark.

“Lionspark is such a simp.” Haypelt scoffed. Reefpelt cuffed her mate over the ears.
“Be nice.” She hissed.
“I’m just telling the truth!” Haypelt yelped “All he does is follow Cypresstail around all day, trying to wait on his every need.”
“He’s just in love.” Reefpelt sighed.
“Same thing.”
“Do you love me?”
“O-Of course.” Haypelt gasped.
“Then you’re a simp.”
