Chapter seventeen.
Midnight padded into the Bloodclan camp, a limp rat hanging in his jaws. Behind him walked two other cats, Mouse and Flame. Each at at least one piece of prey.
A white she-cat bounded off a box she was lounging on.
"Finally decided to come back, huh Midnight?" she hissed. Mouse and Flame quickly dropped their prey off and ran. "Your twolegs let you go?"
Midnight smiled.
"My twolegs got another kittypet, I can now stay as deputy here."
"What makes you think you can still be deputy?" Winter, she she cat asked.
"I am the best suited." Midnight picked his rat up and placed it on the fresh-kill pile. Then he walked to his den, a wooden box.
Winter watched him go.
He is the best suited, she thought,
But, will he obey me? He is head strong and ambitious. I will ask him to mentor Dawn, she can spy on him for me. She sighed, she knew that he was a danger to her position, but she didn't want to remove him. Something in her liked him.
Midnight slipped to the meeting place with the foxes, not knowing that Dawn was trailing him. In the woods, he saw that Redd was waiting for him.
"My foxes hunger for blood cat. We must Attack soon, or they will attack your cats."
"Is that a threat?" Midnight asked calmly. "I shall speak to Winter, in two days we will attack Thunderclan. Be there."
"Oh, we will cat, we will," Redd hissed, turning and slipping into the darkness.
Dawn gasped, there was going to be a battle? She hoped that she would be picked to go, but know she wouldn't, being barely a kit. She bounded over the fences, heading towards the camp. Suddenly, a ginger-kittypet appared on the fence, a ferrel look about him.
"Who are you?" he asked lazily. "And what's a kit like you doing out on her own?"
"I-im Dawn," she stammered. "And I'm not a kit, I'm a Bloodclan apprentice, and I'm going to fight in a battle against the clans soon!" she snapped, then bounded away.
Emberpaw, now known as Flame, watched her go.
"A battle against the clans?" he muttered. "I need to warn Amberpaw! Thunderclan is closest."
