"Well...honestly, I just want to try and impress my mentor." You smile a little sheepishly. "If I'm up early, then she'll see that I'm ready to go out and be the best warrior I can possibly be."

"Believe me when I say good luck with that," says Knotpaw, gazing towards the warriors' den. "Applefoot isn't one to be easily impressed. I'm not even sure why they gave her an apprentice, frankly."

You kind of agree. Applefoot is a very aloof sort, who tends to wander off during the day and do solo hunting patrols. She always makes sure to bring something back, but she doesn't strike up conversations, or share jokes, or speak unless she's spoken to. In fact, you can't help but wonder why she hasn't just left Clan life if she's so unattached to everyone.
Perhaps Birchstar noticed that and, in one of his many misguided attempts to fix a cat, assigned her an apprentice in the hopes of sparking some sort of passion in her. I'm sure he meant well, but...he's not the brightest star in the sky.

"What about you?" you say. "How come you're up?"

Knotpaw looks around her to make sure no one's around before lowering her head and whispering, "I'm hoping to get out of camp before you-know-who wakes up." She jerks her head towards the apprentice den.

You nod gravely.

"If she asks, can you just...pretend you didn't see me?" She continues to whisper, despite the fact that you two are the only ones out of the dens right now.
