Roll says... 5: Let them cross.
"Well...uh...I guess so." You step aside. You figure that as long as they get permission from a BrookClan cat, it still counts.
"Rookpaw, was it?" The polite tom nods. "Thank you, Rookpaw. We'll only be a minute."
The three toms head down to the pebbly beach to sniff around. Thistlenose stops right next to you, and turns her unreadable pale eyes on you again. You just stare right back, trying to keep a steady gaze. She tilts her head a little, but says nothing, merely following her Clanmates onto the stones.
You awkwardly sit down and watch them comb the beach over - a few times, they smell something else, but there's been too much time for the already faint scent to fade away.
"It's no use, Larkstream." Nightfur shakes his head and sighs. "Even Thistlenose can't find anything. We'll just have to assume it's an accident again."
"Two apprentices in such a short time span isn't accidental, Nightfur," the dark tabby growls. "And in the river? BrookClan's behind this, I promise you."
"That's enough, Oakclaw," says Larkstream, and his voice becomes sharp. "Don't start being accusatory. There's probably a very slippery part of the river upstream - Rabbitpaw was there when she fell. Darkpaw was probably there too. We'll speak to BrookClan, but only about where possible accidents can happen."
Oakclaw looks like he's still trying to figure out what 'accusatory' means, but he gives up with an angry huff and stalks past you, back onto their side of the border. Larkstream thanks you again, and Nightfur gives you a friendly goodbye.
Thistlenose is the last to cross. She stops next to you, again, and leans towards you just a little. In a voice so quiet you nearly miss it, she murmurs, "Don't feel fear. Not yet."
Before you can ask what she means, she's off and after her friends. You're alone again.
Well, alright then.
You decide to cross the river, feeling a little unnerved. An accident that close to the last one? You kind of want to investigate further, but you remember that you had said you were going to hunt. You realize that it's going to be noon in an hour or two, and Applefoot will be suspicious if you didn't bring something home (or at least smelled like you tried).
Investigate upriver.
Go hunting.
