hey! i don't think i've posted here before, so. hi! i'm az. i mostly write poetry.

i was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get out of a rut of not submitting after being declined publication? i already found it really intimidating to submit in the first place, but now that i've received my first rejection letter, i feel like i'm looking on my work with an overly critical eye & it's keeping me from trying again, ugh. it doesn't help that the editors don't give critique - which isn't their fault; i just don't even know what i did wrong. it's put me on such an edge i feel like i might never submit again!

if you bother and annoy them enough maybe they'll accept you at some point just to get you to stop submitting?

actually - at least in lit mags - many have a limit to how often you can submit, ex if you get rejected you have to wait six months before trying again. i suppose it's a rule in place to stop exactly that kind of method, haha!

What's everyone favorite writing genre? I'm partial to fantasy and horror.

when i'm writing prose, i'm honestly weak for historical fiction. going past just major events and really researching into how a person would have lived during any time period is absolutely fascinating to me. plus, it pairs well with a lot of other genres, too.

Fantasy probably, but honestly at the moment I'm really enjoying writing fanfics with & without AUs

My favorite genre would have to be spec fic! Fantasy, sci-fi, and especially the weird stuff that definitely isn't realistic fiction but can't be neatly fit into the sci-fi box or the fantasy box.
