This is an old favorite of mine:
" Confederate Stockade Cemetery

In 1861, Federal authorities authorized the construction of a Confederate prisoner of war camp in Northern Ohio. Lieutenant Colonel William Hoffman visited the Sandusky area and began looking for a location for the prison, focusing his attention on the Lake Erie islands. After rejecting several of the islands based on their proximity to Canada and/or their high civilian populations, Hoffman settled on the unpopulated Johnson's Island.

Using lumber from trees on the island, a stockade covering approximately 16 acres was built, complete with a 15-foot fence surrounding it. Inside, there were 13 two-story prisoner barracks and a hospital. Construction was completed within the year and in 1862 the first prisoners arrived from Camp Chase. Over the course of the next four years, over 11,000 Confederate officers and enlisted men would come to be imprisoned on Johnson Island.

By all accounts, life at the prison was better than average for most of the year. However, the frozen winds that blew across Lake Erie made for extremely brutal winters on the island, especially since the vast majority of the Confederate prisoners were used to warmer climates. It didn't help matters when the green lumber used to construct the prison shrank over time, causing holes and gaps to appear in the prison walls. Prisoners tried filling the holes with newspaper, but it did little to hold back the cold. Add to all this the fact that the limestone in the soil made for very poor drainage, causing the privies to overflow with waste, and you are left with some rather horrific living conditions.

After the prison closed down, the island had a brief revival when it became known as Johnson Island's Pleasure Resort in the 1890s. However, the venture was short-lived and ended with Cedar Point buying the property and razing or moving the existing buildings.

Today, while visitors to the island can see an earthen fort, all that remains of the Civil War prison is the cemetery, which houses over 200 graves. The centerpiece of the cemetery is a large bronze statue of a Confederate. This statue faces north as opposed to south, which would have symbolized a retreat. However, legends abound of the statue coming to life at night and moving.

It is this cemetery that is at the center of the ghost stories currently circulating. There are reports that the ghosts of Confederate soldiers have been seen walking amongst the tombstones as well as under the trees surrounding the cemetery. A few people even claim to have heard the disembodied voices of the soldiers.

There is also a strange legend involving a group a Italian immigrants hired to work at the nearby quarry. It is said that while many of the workers did not speak English, for some unknown reason, they began singing "Dixie." "

One, please do not use that many smilies. I'm sorry, but it's distracting. And two, I'm merely retelling tales of my state. I didn't make them up.

Some Real Ghost Stories...(I'm not kidding)
(All Stories are from Canada, my home country!)

Death Bed
Vancouver, British Columbia

Will remodelling a house remove an "uncomfortable" feeling that may presage a haunting? Can a single, spectacular apparition exhaust a ghost's energy?
These are the interesting questions posed by a turn-of-the-century story from Vancouver's west end. A middle-aged couple built their new house there but lived in it for only 6 months before the wife died. Her husband was filled with grief and sold the house, moving to another city.
From the very beginning, the new owners were decidedly uncomfortable on the main floor, especially in the master bedroom. They decided that remodeling might help alliviate the anxiety. A small drawing room adjascent to the fromer master bedroom was enlarged to include the old bedroom, walls were removed, new rugs and furniture were purchase for every room, and the walls were refurbished.
It didn't work.
The couple held a party to celebrate the home's new look. Two women told newspaper columnist Harold Weir about the festivities - sixty years after the event. They had remained silent all those decades, and refused to give Weir even the names of the family involved. All the revellers had been pledged secrecy.
"At precisely 11 o'clock, when all was going merrily," Weir wrote on the women's account, "the guests suddenly became conscious stange going on at the drawing room where the bedroom had been. It was like a whirlwind nothingless, sensed rather than seen."
"The room grew uncontrollably cold and tongues were not so unaccountably silenced."
"A four poster rosewood bed emerged from the whirlwind. A woman was lying[On the bed] clearly at the point of departure from this life," the woman told Weir
What truly scared the guests was staring wide-eyes in horror, at a man sitting in a victorian chair beside the bed. It remained visble, but faded away in a matter of seconds.
Everyone except the owners left, but not before they swore to never tell what they had seen. Withen a very short times they had moved away from the house, and sold it.
When the woman had attended the auction for all the furniture, the rug the phantom bed had been on had 4 deep indentations in it. But it had only been their for a matter of seconds. The house was torn down, and replaced by an anonymous apartment building.

The Man in the Mirror
(Sault Ste Marie, Ontario)
I was Lucky enough to experience this myself, for it is my nanny's current house. The man was my dead Nono

A small girl, of the age of 10 sat on the flora-patterned couch, staring at the blank television. Her name was Taylor, and her Nono had died recently. She sighed at turned iton, watching an episode of Spongebob she had seen a million times. Getting bored, she went to the livingroom closet and opened it, pulling out her Robo-Raptor.
She set it on the ground, and looked in the mirror, she started to put her hair in a ponytail, when a face appeared in the mirror. It was an older man, with a full head of hair and he was smiling at her. He has dissapeared in a matter of seconds. She fell back and the elasctics hit her in the face(This is True! XD). Her Nono's healthy face astounded her, since he had been sporting parkingsons. She ran for her Zizi rose and told her what happened, but her aunt wasn't convinced.
Note: I am Taylor and that was a few years back... Yes I am the main character and this is true.
no longer active on here!! you may see me pop in time to time but I don't visit for months at a time.

One of my friends from school wrote this for a project we had to do:

Jon, the business man, stared up at the hotel, hoping that his secretary, Joann, had remembered to book a room for him. She had been unusually cold to him since he got married. He shrugged and entered the building. The man at the front desk looked half asleep when Jon walked up. "Excuse me?" he said several times before the man looked up. "Yss, wttt youuuuu wan," he said, his words slurring together.
"I was wondering if you had a reservations for a Mr. Jon Smith?" (very original name, I know LOL) the man picked up a leather book and flipped through it, after a few more moments, he flipped a couple more pages. Finally, he looked up, "Noo, Sorryy Mr-" the man yawned, signaling Jon to get out and let him sleep. But Jon was very persistent.
"Do you have any rooms??" he asked, growing more and more agitated by the second, first at Joann and now at this, this IDIOT! The guy looked up, "Yah, here." he tossed Jon some rooms keys and took a sip of coffe. That seemed to wake him up. "Dude, but be careful. People say that that floor is haunted."
Jon scoffed, he didn't believe any of this haunted hogwash. He waved his hand and started to walk away. As he started up the stairs, he heard the man say something about 'eyes and red' "Whatever," Jon whispered to himself.
When he finally reached his room, he looked across the hall to see what number was across the hall, it was number 13. Jon shrugged and walked into his room. Later that night, while Jon was watching last Night's baseball game, he heard soft, slow, sad music coming from the hallway. He got up, annoyed at the people playing music so late and looked out the peephole. There, he was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen dancing in the hall. But, the only problem was that he could never see her eyes, her long, flowing blonde hair always covered it. He went back to watching his game but couldnt resist, he had to see that girl again. He looked out again and all he saw was red.
Shocked, he got in bed and quickly fell asleep. I the morning, he ran downstairs to find the same man from before standing there. He quickly told him what he saw, and the man smirked, "Oh," he said, "I told you last night, people say that the ghost is beautiful. And that she has blood-red eyes."

Don't slam doors

I walked down the stares into the basement of my old house is canada. My dog Lucy would usually stand close to my legs and lead my to the washing machine. But one day while I went dowm she stood at the top of the stares and groweld into no were. I turned on the light. It was colder than usuall. I was washing my dads work cloths and slaming the dryer door to make sure it closed. I could here a faint gigleing sound. I slamed the dryer drawr one more time. When I slamed it the light turned off. Some one span me around so I faced the stares and that was were I ran. I slamed that door and the kitchen light went out. I ran upstairs to my room were my older brother and my mom were.
That night I layed in my bed and when I opend my eyes to use the washroom there was lucy standing outside me door growling again. I froze and when I looked over at my window and shadowy figure was crouched on the window sill. I jumped and ran downstars. It was dark. I could here that giggley sound again. I stood there perfectly still. The only place to go was, the basement. I bit my lip and swallowed as much as I cloud. I closed my eyes and started down the stares. Lucy who found me downstairs pulled on my nightgown and led my upstares into the addic. I slept there on the couch. It was warm and quiet.
That next day my dad helped me make that my bedroom. But I new I still had to do the laundry. I went down stares. Lucy stood there growling again. I turned on the light and found the laundy from yesterday sprawled all over the room. But sitting on to of the dryer was a shadow od a girl. A small voice in the back of my head said. "Don't slam doors" I did what is said. The shadow just sat there. I never slamed the doors again. Those scary things never happend again.

(Real storys do not steal)

Classroom tag

Me and my best friend Katline had to stay in for recess because we goofed off to much in class. I was finishing my work and Katline was cleaning up. It was quiet. Suddenly all the books and papers that Katline had put on the teachers dest had been thrown off. Both of us looked up at the choackbored. There were shadows of 5 boys and 3 girls running across the board. They disapeard when we went to look back a secound time. Then we can both here laughing and the classroom door closed and locked itself. Our teacher found us pounding on the door almost terroriesed. Both of us were tramatised from that classroom. (Real story I am the person telling it. This happend in Canda/Alberta)
Softball

I offerd to stay in and help my gym teacher Mr.Hoss clean up since no one else would do it. I was putting all the softballs back in the bin. The old light flickers and the turned off. I stood still. I could here light footsteps and whispers. Something made the softball big fall over. They all rolled to one side by the door. Something threw one at me but I dodged it. I layed on the floor pirfectly still as I herd someone walk up to me. I saw a shadowy boy. Look down at me. He tryed to help me up but he went right threw me. Then disapeard. All the softballs roled back into the bin.

When I opend my eyes I found my gym teach pounding on the ground beside my head to wake me up. He asked what happend and I told him everything. He belived me. He told me that the same things happen to him sometimes. He calls the boy I saw Toby. That was the class the all died when the roof caved in back along time ago. They like to play softball. (Same school in Alberta)
