Chapter 30 – Ardor Amoris
Mika fiddled with her silky gown nervously. Even though she had practiced in her outfit several times, she still couldn't quite get used to the thin, cream-colored dress and the long, blond wig which went all the way down to the small of her back. She had been forced to wear a bit of light make-up along with a bright red lipstick, and now she felt as though she would sweat most of it off before she even got onto the stage. The costume designers even went as far as to provide her with a pair of silver earrings which seemed to highlight her whole angelic image, or at least that's what Ayako had said.
People were already beginning to fill the seats of the theater, and the show was scheduled to start in half an hour. “Where is he?” Mika asked Ayako for the umpteenth time. “He should be here by now! Do you know where he is? I –”
“Mika calm down,” Ayako said reassuringly for, she was sure, the hundredth time. “You know how he likes to make an entrance. He’ll probably be here ten minutes before the show starts all dressed up in his attire ready to go.”
“I know,” Mika said. “I’m really sorry for bugging you about it. It’s just when I get nervous I start ranting and rambling and I never make any sense and –”
“It’s okay,” Ayako said with a confident smile. “Why don’t you go outside and get a little air?”
“I think I’d rather just stay here, if that’s okay.” 'Here’ was the large, crowded, and somewhat dark area of the backstage. The large red curtain was of course, closed which seemed to cast a shadow over everything.
To Mika’s right was a large rack of clothes for all of the various actors, and in front of her was the open area of the stage which now seemed ten times more daunting than it had in any of their practices.
She was broken from her thoughts by the sound of the heavy door in the back opening. She turned around just as Kaito came into the dim light. He was dressed the exact same way that he had been that night two weeks ago, but Mika felt just as amazed by it now as she had been then.
There was a simultaneous intake of breath from everyone as they turned toward Kaito, and the excited whispering shortly followed his entrance. Mika glanced around to see the others’ flabbergasted expressions; although she couldn’t hear all that they were whispering to each other.
It was Daisuke that produced the most response amongst the group. He ran up to Kaito immediately upon seeing him shouting, “Dude! You look so awesome. Where did you get all of this stuff?!" He circled around Kaito to examine his whole outfit. "You really do look just like a demon out of a manga!”
“I’m so glad,” Kaito muttered sarcastically, and before Daisuke could retort, he walked over to Ayako and Mika.
“See? I told you he liked dramatic entrances,” Ayako said ignoring Kaito’s presence completely.
Mika only nodded to that statement before addressing Kaito. “I was beginning to worry that you wouldn’t even come.”
“Well that’s a silly thought,” he replied good-temperedly. “If I planned on not coming, I would’ve said so from the start rather than take my chances with the wrath of the little missy here,” he gestured to Ayako, “for not coming.”
“Yeah, I guess,” Mika said with a slight smile. “I was just getting really nervous, and a crowd is already starting to come in, and I’m worried that I won’t be able to keep all my lines straight and...” she trailed off as Ayako sent her a look that clearly stated she needed to promptly get a hold over herself.
“Five minutes!” Ayako called around to the groups of people. "Make sure those of you in the opening scene have your appropriate swords and costumes and are in position to go on!”
Mika felt her heart jump into her throat, and she wasn’t even going to be in the opening scene. Her breathing quickened, and she had to fight back the urge to gag out of nervousness.
“You really are a wreck aren’t you?” Kaito asked casting her a sideways glance.
“A-am I?”
“Yes you are. Come here,” he motioned to her with one finger, and Mika obediently moved a couple of steps closer. “Close your eyes.”
Mika did so, and after a moment, she felt his fingertips brush lightly over her forehead. Almost immediately, her frantic emotions rushed out of her body and were replaced by a feeling of calmness. “What did you do?” she asked opening her eyes.
“Slowed down the electrical signals rushing around in your body,” he answered quietly.
“Two minutes!” came Ayako’s shout from somewhere in the distance. “If you’re in the first scene, get your butts onto the stage!”
“She’s just about as nervous as you,” Kaito remarked as he watched her run about. “I guess I’d better go. I'll see you out there in a couple of minutes.” With a nod in Mika’s direction, Kaito joined the small crowd flowing onto the stage, grabbing his wooden sword as he went.
He placed himself close to the front beside Daisuke while Haruto, the general of the angelic army, took his place in front of Kaito as his opponent. “You ready?” Kaito asked.
Haruto nodded, and held his sword at the ready.
“Good, just try to keep up.”
The curtain squeaked as it raised and everyone on the stage held their breath. For an endless moment, all was dark and then suddenly the spotlights flashed on, and the battle on the stage began.
Kaito, as Lucifer, lunged at his opponent, Cayal, who just barely had enough time to block the onslaught. Lucifer didn’t let up, but struck time and time again only to have his attacks blocked. Cayal swung once, quickly and hit Lucifer diagonally across the shoulder.
Lucifer growled and continued with his full blown attacks. It wasn’t long now though, Cayal's purposefully weakened sword already had a crack on it. Lucifer swung downward once more, putting all the strength he had into the attack. With an ear-splitting crack, the sword broke in half, and Cayal reeled backwards.
After a quick glance around at the angelic army, and determining that many of them were losing their battles, Cayal shouted, “Retreat! Warriors of Ranthra retreat!” With a last, bitter glance in Lucifer’s direction, Cayal turned and headed the retreat of the army.
The lights flicked off, and there was a rush of people on and off the stage. Kaito threw his sword to Daisuke, and moved swiftly into position for his next scene. He sat down against a tree prop which had been made from cardboard and colored paper. Kaito had just stretched himself out before the lights flick on again.
Dianna crept hesitantly onto the stage. There were several other trees that she travelled around as she crossed the stage. She continuously glanced around as if she could see no one. Lucifer stiffened as he caught sighted of the angel dressed in all white. Lucifer drew his sword, and moved into a crouch, prepared to attack. However, as he moved, he brushed the tree which rustled and alerted the angel to his presence.
“Who are you to dare enter the lands of Amaryn?” Lucifer demanded.
“I mean no harm!” the angel said throwing up her arms. “I followed the blood trail. You’re wounded. I want to help you!”
“Liar!” Lucifer snarled. “Angels do not help my kind. That is a known fact.”
The angel slowly moved toward him. “Let me prove my words. I will not harm you.”
Lucifer tensed, but still the angel came closer. Feeling threatened by his lower position, Lucifer stood up quickly. As he did so, he groaned and fell backwards slightly against the tree.
The angel moved toward him, and grabbed him by the shoulders to steady him. “You should lay down,” she instructed.
“Get off of me!”
“No!”
For a minute the angel and demon were locked in a battle of wills. It was Lucifer who gave in first and sank to the ground.
The angel knelt beside him and hovered her hand over his shoulder. “Better?” she asked after a moment.
“Much,” he answered still eyeing the angel warily. “What is your name suzerian?”
“You can stop with the hostile attitude. Yes, I know full well that ‘suzerian’ is an insult used by demons when refering us angels,” she answered his somewhat surprised look. After another moment, she pulled away from him. “My name is Dianna.”
“You’re not
that Dianna though, are you? Not the King’s daughter.” Dianna held Lucifer’s gaze, and when it was clear she wasn’t going to deny the accusation, Lucifer burst out laughing. “I can’t believe it! Healed by the King of the suzerian’s daughter. How far I’ve fallen to be in such a position.”
“I’ve told you my name, what is yours?”
“You mean you don’t know me?” Lucifer sat up and leaned closer to her ear. “Lucifer.”
Dianna took in a sharp breath, and her eyes widened. “You’re the Demon King!”
Lucifer smirked. “The one and only,” he said as he stood up.
“Are you going to capture me?” Dianna challenged.
“No. I don’t like to be in another’s debt. Get yourself out of here suzerian before my men catch you,” Lucifer cast her one last smug look, before turning around and striding away.
The lights flicked off again. Kaito was vaguely aware of the crowd cheering, but he didn’t get much time to relish in the praise. He wasn’t in the next scene, so he took the brief opportunity to grab a water bottle that Ayako provided him, and watch from the sidelines as the next scene played out.
“Hold!” Abigor, the general of the demonic army demanded. Incubus and Abdiel immediately stopped at their superior’s command.
“General?” Incubus asked hesitantly.
The general ignored him and continued to stare hard into the woods. For an endless moment, nothing happened. Then, there was a slight rustling in the trees, and a twig snapped. “Suzerian!” The general screamed. “Seize her!!”
Abdiel and Incubus immediately jumped into action, and ran after the angel. The angel only managed to get a few steps before the warriors had grabbed her by the arms. Despite her struggling, the two held her easily and hauled her back toward their general who studied her for a long moment.
Suddenly the general smiled evilly. “Well, well, if I’m not mistaken, we’ve just found the King’s daughter.”
“Should we kill her?” Incubus asked hesitantly.
“No,” Abigor replied, still grinning wickedly. “We will take her to the Lord. Come warriors, and keep a firm hold on our little princess.” The group marched off the stage and the scene ended.
Kaito nodded to Mika as she passed him, and tossed her a water bottle before heading back onto the stage. The crew was rapidly moving about in the near darkness shifting the forest scene to an almost office-like setting.
Kaito watched as they shifted the teacher’s desk that would serve as his own, and conference chair into place. As soon as the crew had it in the proper place, he sat down in the chair, and turned so that he was faced away from the desk and toward the wall.
The lights came on, and a knocking sound reverberated around the stage. “My Lord!” a voice called, “I bring you vital news!”
“Enter,” Lucifer said slowly turning in his chair to face his visitor.
Abdiel scampered hastily onto the stage, and knelt down on the floor. “My Lord!” he restated his greeting. “the general has sent me to bring you –”
“You’ve already stated your purpose here, gemeng,” Lucifer said with a wave of his hand. “I want to know what this dire news is. Raise your head and talk properly,” he added as an afterthought.
“Yes, my Lord.” Abdiel lifted his head and spoke. “On our patrol today through the woods General Abigor, Incubus, and myself encountered an angel, my Lord.” Lucifer stiffened, and sat forward ever so slightly. Abdiel didn’t notice this, however, and continued to speak. “The angel was none other than the King’s daughter, Dianna.”
“I see,” Lucifer said slowly, “and what have you done with her?”
“Nothing, my Lord. We are awaiting your orders.”
Lucifer nodded. “As you should. For now, throw her in the dungeon.”
“To serve you is the reason I breathe my Lord,” Abdiel replied with a bow before he scurried back out of the scene.
“My, my,” Lucifer said to himself. “Why is it, I wonder, that angels always manage to get themselves into unnecessary trouble?”
Once more the lights were cut, and there was the sound of the shifting props and backdrop. Mika walked onto the stage and placed herself behind the bars that were her prison cell. Yuuichi was sitting a little off to the side in a small chair as the guard.
The lights came on again, and Lucifer strode out onto the stage. “Incubus,” Lucifer said as he went, “you are dismissed.”
“B-but, my Lord...” he stuttered as he stood from his chair. “I was ordered by –”
“And who, pray tell, has more authority in this realm than I?”
“N-no one my great Lord!” he said immediately sinking into a low bow. “Please forgive my presumptuousness!”
“Leave,” Lucifer demanded, his voice hard and cold.
“To serve you is the reason I breathe!” Incubus shouted hastily before running out of the dungeon.
Lucifer slowly turned toward Dianna’s cell. “Well, well, I never imagined that I would be seeing my dear princess again so soon,” he said with a smirk.
“You make it seem as if I chose to be here,” she replied trying to stare him down. “What will you do with me this time?”
“Hmm... what indeed,” Lucifer mused. “How about,” he snapped his fingers, and the lock immediately unlatched and the door flung itself open, “I let you go again?”
Dianna took a step backward. “What games are you playing Demon King?”
“Game?” he asked in mock horror. “How rude. I believed myself to be doing you a kindness. If that is incorrect, I’ll lock you back up, and let you rot here for the rest of eternity.”
Dianna eyed him warily, and slowly stepped out of her cell. She looked around the dungeon several times and then back to Lucifer. “I don’t understand what you want from me.”
“I don’t want anything from you my princess.” He strode toward her and ran a hand through her long blond hair before bringing a small lock to his lips. “Is it wrong for me to find you attractive?” His blue eyes bore into hers.
Dianna pulled back from him quickly. “Very wrong,” she said simply. “Now if you don’t mind, I’ll take my leave.”
“Ah, but there’s one small problem,” Lucifer said holding up a finger.
Dianna stiffened and slowly turned to face him. “Oh? And what might that be?”
“You don’t know the way out of my castle,” Lucifer pointed out with a smirk.
“I’ll figure it out.”
“By doing that, you’re offering my warriors a thousand more opportunities to capture you, or worse –”
“Okay! I get it,” Dianna said throwing up her hands in frustration. “Will you please show me the way out?”
“Ah, ah, ah,” Lucifer said shaking his finger in the air. “You have to do it
nicely.”
Dianna groaned, and sighed. “My gracious lord,” she began with a formal curtsy, “I would be eternally grateful if you could show me the way out of your palace.”
“Very well princess,” Lucifer agreed with a smug smile. “Please follow me.”
The stage went dark as the scenery shifted to the forest setting once more. The scene began with Lucifer and Dianna trekking silently through the forest.
“Won’t your men be suspicious when they discover I’m gone?” Dianna asked breaking the silence.
“Perhaps, but I’ll deal with them later,” he said with a surprising amount of seriousness.
When Lucifer didn’t bother to extend the conversation, Dianna began again, “Are you really helping me simply because you find me attractive?”
“Why do you think I would lie to you?”
“Because you’re a demon. That’s what they do.”
At this statement Lucifer halted. “I want you to understand one thing, your highness, you suzerian automatically assume that because I am a demon, I am the incarnation of evil, sin, and hatred. This is nonsense. Just because we come from two different races, doesn’t make one the embodiment of wickedness while the other is justice incarnate. Both of our races have the good and the bad, the just and the wicked. You should never judge us to be evil when you haven’t bothered to learn anything about us.”
“I suppose you speak the truth...” Dianna said slowly after a moment of silence. “I had never thought of it like that. I am sorry.” She dipped her head in respect.
“I don’t want your apologies,” Lucifer said waving her off. “I just want you to know. There’s more in the world than what there appears to be.”
Dianna nodded, and they both elapsed into silence. The next time Dianna spoke was to say a brief farewell at the border of Amaryn and Ranthra. “Will I see you again?” she asked quietly.
“I do so hope you will.” Lucifer turned away from her. “I love letters by the way.” Without looking at her, he waved, and headed back into the forest leaving Dianna at the border.
The scenes changed, this time shifting from the forest to a bedroom setting. Mika stayed on stage and sat on the bed waiting for the lights to come back on and play to resume.
They did after a moment, and Lailah, Dianna’s friend, poked her head around the corner of the bedroom. “Hey Princess! Can I come in?”
“How many times have I told you just to call me Dianna, Lailah?” she asked with a smile. “And you know that you’re always welcome to come in.”
“I know,” Lailah said with a big smile, “but I always feel like I should ask you know?” Lailah came in and plopped down on the bed next to Dianna. “So spill! Where were you a couple of days ago? The whole kingdom is spreading thousands of rumors. Which one is right?!”
Dianna laughed at her friend’s determined expression. “You really want to know?” Lailah nodded vigorously, and Dianna smiled sadly. “I was... well... it’s kind of a long and complicated story.”
“Aw, come on Pr-Dianna. You know you can trust me right? I won’t tell anyone else!”
“Okay, well, I met the Demon King. His warriors captured me and he... just let me go, and escorted me back to Ranthra.”
“Seriously?” Lailah’s expression had switched from innocent excitement to concern for her friend. “It has to be some sort of trap!”
“It didn't seem like it... I really think he was just...” she swallowed hard before saying, “being kind.”
“Princess!!! You can’t honestly think that!! Demons are evil and heartless creatures! He would’ve never let you go unless he had something to gain!”
Dianna turned away from her friend. She clenched her jaw and balled her fists. Her discussion with Lucifer on this topic was still painfully fresh in her mind.
“Oh my god...” Lailah breathed. “You like him. You’re in love with the Demon King!”
“Lailah...” Dianna turned to her friend, her eyes filled with tears. She embraced her, and Lailah returned her hug.
“Don’t worry,” Lailah assured her. “We’ll think of something.”
A change of scene later, Lailah and Cayal were sitting across from each other over. “Why did you summon me here, Lailah?” Cayal started out the scene by asking.
“It’s about Dianna.”
“I’m listening,” Cayal prompted.
“Well,” Lailah began hesitantly, “I know that you like Dianna, so I thought you’d be the best person to help her. The Demon King has played a horrible trick on her, and now she’s in love with him!”
Cayal’s eyes widened. “What do you mean? When did Dianna ever meet with the Demon –” Cayal suddenly stopped, and stood up abruptly. “When she disappeared!” he answered his own question. “Do not worry Lailah. I will protect the Princess even if it costs my life."
With that, the short scene ended, and Mitsuru and Haruto exited while Kaito and Natsumi took their places as the backdrop was restored to Lucifer’s office. Kaito placed himself back in his office chair at the desk. As the stage lit up, he picked up the envelope that was on the desk and opened it.
“From Dianna again, huh?” he said to himself with a smile. His eyes scanned over it. A moment later, a very angry Lilith stormed though the door without so much as a knock. “Lilith,” Lucifer greeted with a slight dip of his head. “What do you want today?”
“To spend time with you of course! I haven’t seen you in a week. We’re to be married only a month from now, and I haven’t even spoken to you about it because all you ever do is sit in this dank and dim chamber reading letters!” Lilith broke off panting.
Lucifer stared at her in mild interest. “Well I do have a somewhat important job you know. As for the wedding, you told me that you would personally handle all of it, so why are you bringing it into the conversation?” He raised an eyebrow and waited for her reply. When she didn’t after a moment he continued, “You will have to be able to deal with not having my full attention if you want to be my wife.”
“I-I know that! But still, we should see each other some,” she said with an attempt at a smile. “Perhaps after you finish reading that letter we could –”
“No,” Lucifer replied shortly. “I am busy. I will see you another time Lilith.” He waved his hand at her in a shooing motion, and Lilith reluctantly left.
The left side of the stage darkened, and the spot light focused solely on Lilith. “I don’t know who it is you’re so interested in talking to, but I will find out and destroy them!”
“Have some water,” Ayako said after the scene had ended, thrusting the bottle in Kaito’s direction as he walked backstage. “You’ll need a good strong voice for the next one.”
Kaito nodded, and drained the bottle before wiping his face with a towel. He hadn’t realized how incredibly hot the stage lights were until he had stood under them for nearly an hour.
Kaito watched as the next scene with Cayal and Incubus played out quickly. Cayal charged onto the stage and promptly murdered Incubus before charging into the castle.
“Well, here I go again,” Kaito said with a sigh as he slipped through the darkened section of the stage and back to the office chair as his portion of the scene begun.
“My Lord!” Abdiel ran into the room at full speed. “My Lord, the suzerian general! He is demanding an audience! Incubus... already dead!”
“Slow down Abdiel, and speak more clearly,” Lucifer instructed.
“There’s no need,” another voice added walking through the door of King’s chamber. “I’ll explain personally.”
Lucifer stood up as Cayal entered. “You look a bit better than the last time I saw you,” Lucifer said with a smirk. “Have you had your sword fixed yet?”
“Would you like to find out?” Cayal challenged thumbing at the hilt of the sword that hung at his side.
“Gemeng, leave us. It seems we have something important to discuss,” Lucifer said not looking at the slightly quivering little demon.
Abdiel wasted not a second in hurrying from the room, leaving the general and his Lord staring daggers at each other.
“I know you didn’t come here to simply give me the gift of your presence, Cayal. What do you want?”
“Leave the Princess alone! Don’t ever come near her again!” Cayal shouted angrily.
“You march through my lands, kill my warriors, and then expect me to meet your demands? You angels are more stupid than I first thought. At least your dear little Dianna has more of a brain than the rest of your esteemed army.”
“Don’t you dare talk about the princess with that dirty mouth of yours!”
“You have some gall Cayal!” Lucifer finally responded heatedly. “If you don’t want to die, I recommend you leave immediately! Go back home to your little suzerian princess.”
Cayal balled his fist, then drew his sword, and lunged at Lucifer who just barely had time to block the attack. They exchanged multiple blows, each wounding the other, but neither backed down. Finally they broke apart panting and staring each other down.
“This won’t ever accomplish anything,” Lucifer said straightening up. “Besides, you are wrecking my office. Go back to your dear princess peacefully, without killing any more of my men, and I will vow to never meet or speak to her again. This little feud isn’t worth enough to tear my kingdom apart.”
Cayal considered the offer. “And the letters?”
“You found out about that?”
“The letters,” Cayal prompted more aggressively.
“Will cease to exist,” Lucifer agreed with a long sigh and a wave of his hand.
“Good.” Cayal sheathed his sword and exited the office, leaving a physically and mentally beat up Lucifer in his wake.
The majority of the stage darkened except for one corner where Lilith was hidden behind the door of the office. She only smiled cruelly, before the last light went out and the scene changed again.
The forest setting was restored, and Cayal began his walk through it completely unaware that he was being followed by Lilith. She moved swiftly from one tree to another behind Cayal as to not be seen. Cayal quickly reached the border between the Angelic and Demonic lands. Lilith paused at the border, and with a deep breath, she too plunged into Ranthra, still hot on Cayal’s tail.
The scenery was shifted to the Angel’s palace, and Lilith took center stage once more. There was only one warrior guarding the gates of the castle. Lilith laughed and then said, “Well this will be easy. It’s time for them to pay!” With a scream, Lilith grabbed her sword and charged at Charmeine.
She killed him easily with one strong blow from her sword and then proceeded into the palace where she crept around in the shadows. She was rounding a corner when a voice sounded from behind her.
Lailah entered the stage behind Lilith. “I thought I smelt something foul.”
Lilith whirled around immediately bringing out her sword and preparing for a fight. “Oh, it’s just a lone suzerian,” Lilith mocked. “I already killed one, another won’t make a difference.”
“Why you-!” Lailah growled also drawing the sword at her side.
Both warriors charged simultaneously, and the swords connected with a loud crack. The battle had begun. A few seconds into the fight, Dianna ran onto the stage, and after seeing the two, exclaimed, “I must tell Lucifer!” Then, she ran back the way she’d come.
The stage darkened as Lucifer’s office was restored. “My Lord!” Abdiel burst through the door. “An angel is demanding to see you immediately! She said something about a fight between Lilith and some Lailah. She won’t leave!”
Lucifer stood up abruptly. “Take me to her.”
Abdiel nodded shakily and scampered from the room with Lucifer hot on his heels. It took only a second for Lucifer to catch sight of Dianna. “Why are you here?” he whispered urgently acutely aware of the demons gathering around to watch the two of them.
“I’m sorry but, my best friend and your fiancée are in a fierce battle right now. They’ll kill each other! And I – I don’t want them to die, either of them...” Dianna began crying softly, and Lucifer put one hand on her shoulder.
“Let us go then.”
Dianna nodded gratefully, and the two set off through the woods. Lucifer and Dianna ran across the stage, and the battle in front of the Angelic castle resumed.
Lucifer and Dianna emerged onto the scene just as the final blow was delivered by Lailah. With a scream, Lilith collapsed onto the ground, still.
“Lailah!” Dianna screamed her friend’s name.
Lailah’s head shot up as she focused on the two before her. Her wide, surprised eyes narrowed as she focused on the Lucifer. “Demon King you will die next!” She charged at him ignoring the protests of Dianna.
Lucifer bent his head, but whether it was in anger or sadness, no one could tell. He blocked Lailah’s swing with the palm of his hand without even looking at the attack. Both Lailah and Dianna let out a little scream as a spark of electricity shot into the sword and it shattered into hundreds of parts.
Mitsuru jumped backwards completely thrown off by Kaito’s rather sudden change of script. Mika also took a slight step backwards, knocked out of character by the use of his powers. Knowing that it was on purpose, Mika swiftly regained her composure.
“L-Lucifer...” she grabbed onto this sleeve. “Please.”
Lucifer didn’t look at her, but gently removed her hand and walked slowly over to where Lilith’s body lay. He brushed her long, dark hair out of her face, and picked her limp body up. “Abdiel!” Lucifer finally straightened and cast his eyes over the group that had formed before him, angels on one side, demons on the other.
“Abdiel!” he called out again, more aggressively.
The crowd of demons parted as the smaller Abdiel ran up to meet his King. “M-my Lord?” he asked immediately bowing down.
“Take Lilith’s body back to the Kingdom. We will give her a proper burial upon my return.”
“To serve you is the reason I – ” Abdiel was cut off as Lilith’s body was dumped into his arms. He strained under the weight for a moment before awkwardly running off of the stage.
“Lucifer...” Dianna breathed coming up to him. “I’m so sorry.” She bent her head before him in an apology.
“Stop,” Lucifer replied. “It was beyond your control.” Lucifer wrapped his arms around Dianna now only vaguely aware of the protests from the angels and the demons.
Dianna relaxed in his arms and slowly returned the embrace. After several long moments, they broke away.
“I love you, Dianna,” Lucifer whispered softly enough for only her to hear.
Dianna’s face flushed red, but she replied in a steady voice, “I love you too, Lucifer.”
He smiled and stepped back a few steps. “Good.” He slowly turned his back on her and walked in the direction that the demons had gathered.
“Wait!” Dianna called. When he turned around she continued. “Will we... see each other again?”
“Of course we will.” With a smirk highlighting his face he said, “I have a wedding in a month.”
Dianna’s mouth dropped slightly. “B-but I...I... Wait!!!” She screamed after him, her face now a bright red.
Lucifer didn’t turn back around as he walked, but waved in a farewell much like he had on the day he'd assisted in her escape. The demons parted, and then followed him off the stage, leaving a very flustered Dianna behind them.
The stage slowly darkened, and the curtain closed for the last time.
“What was that about?!” Ayako demanded as Kaito met her.
“What was what about?” he asked.
“Your stupid trick with the sword,” Ayako hissed.
“Oh, come now. Don’t you think it added more realism to it? The crowd apparently approves.” He gestured toward the closed curtain where the crowd was alive with thousands of claps. “Anyway, don’t you have to do the credits or whatever?”
Ayako cast an annoyed glance in his direction, and proceeded to grab a microphone before going onto the stage. The curtain rose for her, and she called out each actor in turn starting from the supporting characters and working up to Kaito and Mika who entered the stage together.
Once she had the main actors, she called out the costume designers, artists, light and sound managers, and everyone one else. They all connected hands, and bowed deeply as the crowd cheered. The audience even gave the class a standing ovation before the red curtain closed, ending their performance.
A/N~ This is a super long chapter (13 pages) so hopefully that makes up for the longer wait. I really enjoyed writing this, and hope that you also enjoy reading it. I know I threw a lot of names out there, but I tried to provide a little short description of them here and there. If you think you need a character list, ask, and I'll give you one. ^^
