Roll says... 2: Follow Eveningtail.
You do your best to be stealthy as you follow her out. You're at first confused as to where she went - the deputy is silent and careful to not leave so much as a blade of grass out of place - but you finally manage to catch on to her scent and follow it as quietly as you can.
Tracking Skill +1.
It's a while before you find her scent growing stronger. She must have stopped at some point - there's an unfamiliar smell somewhere around here, but you can't place it. You become quickly aware that she's close by, and when you quicken your pace you can hear footsteps.
She's heading for the river, sounding frantic, even murmuring to herself, though you can't here what she says. You have to stop and hide in the herb patch when she pauses and looks around, which makes you almost lose her when she takes off at a full sprint. It's a long minute of trying to be quiet and fast at the same time - luckily, as a cat, your eyes adjust to the darkness perfectly, so you don't stumble over anything.
The sound of the river soon drowns out her footsteps and breathing, and you have to go on scent alone, which increases the difficulty quite a bit. You stick to the trees and grass so she can't see or smell you, but she's running along the beach now, and you have to risk poking your head out to see where she is. She's almost at the cross-able section of the river on the border along ForestClan territory. What she's running for, you don't know.
You don't dare risk swimming after her, so you keep to the grove and follow as best as you can. You think you can hear someone talking, but the sound of the river mixed with the nearby splashing of waves along the lake makes you strain your ears, and even then you can only catch snippets of conversation.
"...had such...not the...better..."
"If you...I'll...rotten-"
"...enough! You..."
"Hush...someone else..."
Oh, crap. They must know you're here, or at least that someone's here. You keep very still, thankful of the smell of the herbs that you had rested in for a moment. It won't be strong enough to hold you there forever, but maybe if you're still, they'll miss you.
Stay hidden.
Run home.
