Introducing the character in chapter twenty
New character - CLUE; eccentricity
*stares cold and hard*
Me and Kasai sped off after our friend, though it didn't do much good. Jay and the other dog were already half a mile in front of us and there was no way we'd catch them now. I decided that our best bet would be to run to the right of them and corner them off when they tried to turn away from the wall at the end of the field. From where we were standing it looked to be a few feet high, and the plan seemed to be a good option. But just as we got to the right of the two dogs, they disappeared. The collie skidded through a small gap at the bottom of the wall and Jay leapt clean over, the tips of her paws just skimming the ragged cobble stone. I raised a brow and looked at Kasai, then nodded.
"Come on!"
My paws slipped in the mud as I set off following Jay and this mystery dog. They must be getting tired now, I thought. I mean, who can run at a sixty miles an hour for that long. I know Jay can, but I didn't think a border collie would come anywhere near that. I certainly couldn't.
After leaping the wall - which was no where near as high as I had estimated it to be - two silhouettes came into view on the horizon. They didn't seem to be going as fast now but that didn't mean we were getting any closer. It was only when I was a few feet away from the fence when I realized where we were heading. Despite the field of grazing cattle homing into view, I continued to run. My fur was going wild in the strong wind, and the smell was terrible. Most dogs - for some reason or another - have a tendency to roll in dung. I, however, am not so keen on the idea of coating myself in piles of steaming waste.
It took a while to find Jay and the other dog again after weaving our way through the maze of cows, but as it turns out they were starting to slow down and it was a lot easier to chase them now. My heart was beating hard as it tried to keep me from passing out. I'd been running too fast for too long, but I had to keep going. If we caught this dog we may have a chance of finding Raven. Though as we got closer, the collie disappeared. Jay seemed to be sucked up into the ground, and it was just as we got near to where she had been eaten we realized there was a burrow under the ground.
