"I'm going hunting," Silver declared abruptly, making Red jump. Crystal got up and followed.
The two wolves had become friends to Red, but Silver could be difficult and hard to talk to at times. Crystal had been easier to speak with, for Red, anyway. The small group of four had left Emeraldgaze's hut behind, but Red still carried her pack, with her spell book inside. She also carried the bow and quiver. Emeraldgaze had said, "Keep it. It is yours." and taught her how to hunt with arrows, Now she had turned out to be an archer expert. Seventeen days already passed ever since the encounter with Crystal and Silver. Emeraldgaze had wrapped his items around the flag to carry it easily.
"Okay," called Red to the wolves. "We'll be here," she added. Then she turned to Emeraldgaze. "I'm going to practice my arching," she said. "I won't go far," she pointed out. "It won't take long." Emeraldgaze nodded. "But take this dagger with you. We can't bee too careful."
With that, Red took aim at a large tree's branch. The arrow whistled past by only an inch. Sighing, she tried again, only to miss by even less than a centimeter. Growling with frustration, she grabbed both arrows and aimed at a slightly wider target, an oak tree's branch. This time she hit her target perfectly, so she turned and tried again with the narrower tree branch. She took aim, holding her breath, and shot. The arrow hit its target, quivering. She took it and placed it in the quiver.
Then she sat down beside a small stream, and washed her paws. They were dirty, dusty, and caked with mud. Her claws had also became slightly twisted and broken. I'm glad I'm not so petty about my look, Red reflected dryly. She dipped her paws into the water, but it was ice-cold and she snatched her paws back, trembling. Numb, her paws could barely move. Red would have used magic to warm the water, but she didn't know yet how to do it without changing the temperature to lava-hot steam. She tried again, this time more slowly. The stream's ripple course changed as her paws sank deeper in. The water was unusually clear, and she could see her reflection.
When she was done, she walked over to a sunbathed rock to dry her paws. It took longer than she had expected, but she took enjoyment in the experience. Once her paws were no longer wet, she made her way back to her bow and quiver. She sat back to admire the arrows' sharp points and straight edges.
After she was done savoring what freedom she had, she trudged her way back to Emeraldgaze. It was easy to find him, probably because he had his flag planted in the ground. "Hey, we've been waiting for you," Silver said. His tone was completely different; he sounded relieved, if not friendly. "Sorry." Red rolled her eyes as she spoke. Crystal murmured, "I guess we can go on now," and stood up. Emeraldgaze re-wrapped the bags with the flag and pulled it out of the ground, and exclaimed, "Ready here!"
"Then we can get on, yes?" asked Red, a bit smugly, though she didn't know why. "Yes, come on," prodded Crystal. "Okay, sure." Silver began to make his way along the path.

Red turned around. Her left hind leg felt oddly painful and stung in the cold. When she turned, she saw some blood. Oddly enough there was no wound, so she shrugged and cleaned the leg with snow. None of the others had noticed that she'd fallen behind, so she got up and raced on, but then pain lanced up her right paw. She looked at it and saw that her paw was sprained, but she said nothing about it and quietly bandaged it up with a piece of cloth.
Hoping that no one would notice, she changed the bandage after a long trudge on their way to Kiltar, which was north. Unfortunaely, that was when Emeraldgaze said, "Come on; I'm going to teach you magic," and Red sighed, getting up and not even bothering to hide her sprain.
Emeraldgaze noticed the wound right away. "What happened?" His voice sounded worried, like that of a wolf whose friend died. "It's nothing," Red grumbled, though she stifled a wince. "You know it's more than just nothing," replied Emeraldgaze, with an edge of annoyance in the way he spoke. "All right! Will you just give me a drop of Moonglow and be done with it?" Red growled with frustration. "It's nothing, I tell you."
"Nothing or not, I'll heal it." Emeraldgaze's voice was decisive. Red stood in silence as Emeraldgaze took out the Moonglow and smeared it on the bandage. The liquid quickly affected the wound below. Red felt the paw burn as if it were on fire, then turn ice-cold. Then it throbbed, painfully, but not as hurting as when she first felt it. Slowly, after a minute, the pain dissolved, leaving a strange tingling.
"Okay, done, you said you were going to teach me magic, get on with it, whatever." Red didn't know what had got her in a bad temper, but she let it out anyway. "All right. I'm teaching you to control the element of water. But you can't do that here, and not now. Not when you're feeling like you want to punch an oak tree and destroy it."
"Fine." Red's temper had begun to cool down, so she closed her eyes and waited until the last of it was gone. Silver and Crystal were also resting, far enough not to hear their argument. Red had begun to grow close to the white wolf, and she even felt a bit of affection for Silver. Emeraldgaze snorted, then turned back to their temporary camp.
Red recovered her book, and wrote down,
When Moonglow is used on a wound, the wound will pain greatly, though not as painful as when the sufferer received it. Then the wound will slowly heal, taking no less than five minutes, though it takes longer than a few seconds.

Awesome story! I'm only on chapter six as of now, but... well, it's epic!

I've decided it's time to move on, and so I've quit CS. It's been a good three years, but, well, as of May 2014, I don't think I'll be coming back. I'd like to say thank you, to all of you. Thank you for encouraging me, inspiring me, and being my friends. I've had so much fun, but this is the end. Seeing as this is my last visit, I've changed my username back to the original, Rebel Faery. It's a name that I no longer go by, but a name I'll always remember. I'm so sorry to every fan of TIAJNAD, to everyone that read my writing, to, well, everyone. But it's time to move on. To make like Elsa and let it go. (I was still on CS when Frozen came out. It feels like so long ago.)
let it go, let it go, and I'll rise like the break of dawn
let it go, let it go, that perfect girl is gone
here I'll stand, and here I'll stay
let the storm rage on
the cold never bothered me anyway

After she was done writing, Red kept up with the three other wolves. Kiltar, in Emeraldgaze's prediction, was only two days away, if they rushed themselves, and four days away if they took it easy. Either way, Red wasn't so sure whether she was ready to meet more Guardians there.
"Okay. We can stop now," Silver said, tone reassuring, as if he thought everyone else was scared stiff. "You don't have to say it like that, though," rebuked Crystal, but affectionately. "Whatever you say. Hey, Guardian, Crystal and I will hunt again, and you can teach that Companion of yours magic. It might be useful if we get into trouble," called Silver.
"You're acting like our leader," remarked Red. "But, then again, it's better than all of us arguing about who to lead and who to follow, eh?" Silver only shook his head, though he didn't look hurt, which told Red that he was okay with her words. "Okay, we'll do as you say, O Great One," Red crowed. This time annoyance crossed Silver's face, but it disappeared as quick as it came. "Yes, my loyal servant."
Once she and Emeraldgaze were out of sight near a stream, Emeraldgaze said, "Your first task, like I said, is to control water. This element can be both easy and hard. You can control it with words, or with nothing more than an iron will. If you want to control it with words, you must use the words that you've learned in the books, such as 'atlia turra reati lia water ritra' which will let you control the flow of water. The spell instructs the water to change and reverse its power. Water flows in one direction and one only, so the spell changes that and lets you control the water. It can flow upwards, shape itself according to your will, or even bubble or freeze. For now, use words. Say, 'water, altia turra reati!'"
"Water, atlia turra reati." Water, change and reverse. Red concentrated on the stream's flowing water. Nothing happened, so she repeated the spell, more strongly. Then, the water started to shimmer. Rise, water, instructed Red. One small sprout of water rose from the surface. The rest of the water stopped flowing, as if caught in a warp of time. The water rose higher, then formed a bubble. The bubble flew, and Red directed it to stop. The circle trembled, then popped. Before the water touched the grass beneath, Red made it stop in midair, and flow back into the frozen trail of water. The stream turned back to normal. The magic was hard.
"Very good, but that's only easy. The easiest to control is water, the hardest lightning. Now, try again, but this time create water, not control it. You can do both at once, but it isn't so simple. It takes months of practice. This time use the words I've taught you, but add, 'skiraa' which means create, or make." Emeraldgaze instructed.
Red tried, but it took time. She gasped, "Skiraa water," and the liquid formed in midair, close to her face. It fell to the ground, but more formed, creating an endless waterfall, except it wasn't clear where the water begun. It splashed around her paws, but Red stayed dry. Red tried again, but little more than a drop was formed.
"Now, use the water to carve a small river through here." Emeraldgaze was clearly not stopping there. He demonstrated the sorcery.
