I stand stiff before the king. His fierce glare makes me want to look at the ground and shuffle my feet, but I refrain. I had been caught. All my life I lived with this curse, all my life knowing I couldn't hide it forever. But I had tried. I had needed to try. And I had imagined and fantasized of a time when I would not be forced to hide my power. But that time never came. Those dreams have been shattered. Now I stand in front of the person who decides my fate, and I already know his decision. He passed judgement on me and my kind before he even knew us. And soon, he shall proclaim my fate; announce it for all to hear.

Death

What will we call you:
Feel free to call me TTW or Traveler for short.

What are your goals as an author?
  • Get published
  • Become famous to some extent
  • Possibly get a banned book for its political controversy.

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
This is a planned excerpt out of the book that I'm planning on writing. Not the best, since I just randomly picked out an excerpt from no specific place.
"But why Sweden?" I asked, staring intently at the man that had saved me from the mental hospital. "Why couldn't I just stay in America? I certainly would have received worse punishment there."

The man, the man whose name was still unknown to me, sat back in the restaurant chair, staring mischievously at me as he thought. There was something about this man, the man who I didn't know. He was helpful, yes, but I knew that he wasn't giving me the entire story. He knew something, something that was important to me. But he just refused to tell me.

"There are people in this world," the man finally answered, leaning forward to rest his arms on the table again, "that are can be highly manipulative whenever they want something to go their way."

I knitted my eyebrows together, confused about what this man had just said. Why would someone want me, of all people, to be sent to a specific mental hospital just to get their way? And why was I important to the point that they felt the need to override the mental health system? Nothing made sense. Then again, when did anything in this world make sense?

Again, the man smiled at me, his eyes glittering in amusement. "I'll let you think on that one, Kate, since you're the type of person who likes to figure things out for themselves. But in the meanwhile," the man paused to remove something from the satchel that he brought along with him, "I believe these two items will help you in the long run."

Are you currently working on any books?
I'm about to get started on a book that I've had in mind for a while now. It's currently untitled, as I haven't gotten to that part yet.

Why do you want to join?
My main reason is to be able to mentor people, and tell them where their writing can use some improvement. I also enjoy learning about the different writing styles, and analyzing which writing style is the most common.

Do you have published books yet?
No; doubt that I won't be getting anything published anytime soon with the way that my writing schedule is.

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
No.

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
Reading: Unless it's really good fiction, I won't read fiction anymore. I'm more for non-fiction, preferably historical or philosophy.
Writing: I'm strongest in the fields of fiction, specifically fantasy. I rarely write with the romance genre anymore, unless I do a satire about something.

hey guys, anyone want to help me with this? I am filling out my Flaming.net application and one of the questions where 'If you could be a character from a book, movie, or play, who would you choose to be and why?'
What do you guys think?
If you could be a character from a book, movie, or play, who would you choose to be and why?

This was a difficult one; with so many incredible characters in so many incredible books, it took a lot of consideration. However, I think if it was up to me, I would quite like to be Stephanie Edgley, from the Skulduggery Pleasant Series.
Though she came from a less than interesting life, Stephanie Edgley’s entire world was rapidly turned upside down with the death of her grandfather, and, in turn, the appearance of Skulduggery Pleasant. With the guidance from this sarcastic un-dead sorcerer, she soon began the journey from regular teenager to an ingenious, world-saving, dimension-altering, detective. Stephanie Edgly proves once and for all that the well known phrase, “Bravery is not the absence of fear, but the knowledge that something else is more important.” is incredibly true, as time and time again she battles it out with people and things so twisted and grotesque, that not in her wildest dreams could she imagine them, yet she still has the courage to go along with her skeleton mentor and do her best to keep the world, and the people in it, safe.
In short, it is her exhilarating life, courageous nature, sharp tongue, and quick wit which make me both admire, and wish to be, Stephanie Edgley.

You wrote the piece beautifully, but it sounds more like a plot summary that you find on a back of a book than an answer to the question. I think you should provide less information about her background and focus more on the qualities you admire about her. More examples would also improve the answer.

What will we call you:
Whatever you like. I have many names. I'd prefer either Pirate or Tekmet though ^^

What are your goals as an author?
1. I hope to publish a book and (hopefully) make it to the bestsellers list. (A girl can dream.)
2. I hope to have the patience to finally finish my book, not just the prologue.
3. I'd love to have another offer/editor review my work and have my book accepted by a publishing company.

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
I'll put up two samples, first a poem:
Alley Cats
We come and we go
We walk as we please
It’s great you know
To live with such ease

Just a simple quatrain poem really.
Next is a blurb which I will type now because I have none saved since Microsoft Word crashed.
I'll write a few, all from the same story, separated by dashes ^^

Marlin moaned. "What's taking him so long? It's been ten minutes already. How long does it take to get a stupid bandage?"
Dara rolled her eyes. "It's not my fault you suddenly decided to fall out of a tree. It's a miracle you even came back up here. Dan will be here soon enough." She was still talking with that fake British accent! It was really getting on Marlin's nerves. Why did he have to say that bloody dare?

---

Dara blinked back tears. The rain was drenching her entirely, yet her clothes still smelled of fire. "I-I trusted you! I thought you were my friend. Yet you just watched him get killed. You saw it, and didn't do anything! You were part of this all along! I should've known. Oh god, I should've suspected you were going to betray us. That's what I'd expect from his son."

---

I tried not to spoil anything. I would've written more, but eh, spoilers. Hope it was half-decent c:
The blurbs I wrote just now; the poem was written beforehand.

Are you currently working on any books?
I tried to start one, but it turned out cliche and unreal. I'm debating on writing a new story on Dara and Marlin. Do you guys think I should?

Why do you want to join?
I love writing, and being part of a writing community would help me so much. It would bring me one step closer to becoming an author. I always appreciate insight on my writing from those more experienced than me. I have a ton of questions, I hope you don't mind them!

Do you have published books yet?
No, I have not.

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
This may seem to be a dumb question, but what's a "writing partner"? XD

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
I love action/adventure, possibly with a little comedy mixed in ;)

Were you a member of the old thread?
No, I was not.
"Why?" The girl cried. "Why can't we be together? I love you more than anything, yet you reject me."
The boy tore away. "I-I'm sorry. I can't tell you."
She wept. "I must know. Please, tell me why."
The boy stayed silent.
"Please..." She said. "I love you."
He finally replied. "I can't love you because...because you are a pirate."
The girl stared at him. "I'm a what?"
"You are a pirate, you're all pirates except me! Because I'm a princess!"
The girl narrowed her eyes. "Isn't it the other way around? I am a pirate, you are a princess?"
"NU! You are a pirate, and I'm a pretty pretty princess! M'kay?!"
"What?"
"Problem?"

-Accepted. A writing partner is simply someone with whom you can write. Usually is is collaboration work.

Lassie
