I have a question: I want to write a story with a completely horrid main character, but I'm not sure if anyone would read it. Would you read a story with a main character that you can't really root for??

new story idea! tell me what you think.
i haven't thought of the prophecy yet.
the smooth white marble halls of the domed temple are serene and silent. in the middle of the one room sits a young girl cloaked in shadow. a crowd of people surround her, all in suspense for what is about to happen. as the girl opens her eyes, and instead of being pale blue as usual, they glowed a bright white. in a strange voice, she spoke a shocking prophecy:

I absolutely love Brave New World, and I don't like any of the main characters. I like some parts of them (but not many), especially the parts they play in the story. So yeah, sometimes I do like stories with main characters I don't like. But the story has to be good and interesting. Plus, for me it has to explain why the character is horrid and this fact has to be important for the plot.

I've read an entire series with a main character I really detested but he totally changed, I grew on him and he's my favorite character from the series now. Sadly, though, he died in the last book sacrificing himself to save the world...

Who here likes fantasy stories as far as dragons, elves, medieval stuff is concerned? Not like vampires or werewolves or ghosts, etc. Those are fantasy too but not what I'm asking about o3o
