Wouldn't harming the general population be against the law in general, though? Unless you mean there's a specific punishment when using magic. If so, that's a really interesting law. Elaborate, please? o3o
To answer my own questions (Apolloverse is the Lychee, Longan, EoM, and Beaker; CelestialD, meaning Celestial Diaries, is the Planet):
What forms of magic/powers appear in your not-diary?
Apolloverse: There are six types of spirits roaming the world - earth, water, air, fire, light, and shadow. They aren't exactly malevolent, but they're not benevolent either. It's, like, complicated. They control their respective elements, and sometimes, they possess unused bodies, retaining their abilities in the process. Also, spirits can give mortals powers.
CelestialD: Apart from the Six Spirits (yeah, the concept of elemental spirits shows up a bunch), which are basically gods, and the Artifact Sextet (I plan to change their name soon), created by the Spirits, none.
Most of its characters actually have latent magic, but until the fabric of the universe weakens, it will completely prevent anyone from using it.
zHow do they affect everyday life?
Apolloverse: In Alinia, a lot. It never rains, because the government has made a deal with the water spirits. Now they basically manipulate the water cycle to plop water straight into the reservoirs. In exchange, they promise never to pollute the water.
CelestialD: The Spirits don't. However, one of their Artifacts allegedly kills some people who will do evil, before they turn evil. This seems to mainly result in kids suddenly dropping dead. Naturally, parents in some villages bring up their children very carefully, so that they don't turn evil and get blasted by the Artifact.
zAre there any laws related to them?
Apolloverse: The government doesn't even dare trying to contain the spirits themselves, but there are strict laws imposed on the mortals with powers. Earth magic in particular, due to its majorly powerful abilities. More powerful ones have the ability to manipulate life, which is majorly majorly majorly illegal. Also, harming people in general is outlawed. That goes even without magic, but using one's powers to do it will reap you an even worse punishment. This is because it's considered... disrespecting the spirits, kind of. Which is strange, seeing as they wouldn't care if you committed mass murder as long as you don't disturb nature.
CelestialD: You. Do. Not. Disturb. The Artifact Sextet. No, not even then. Even museums will pretty much be laughed at if they try to get it.
zHow common are they? Does this vary from region to region?
Apolloverse: Alinia has the best relationship out of many countries with the elemental spirits, so they have the most people with powers. Even then, though, it's rare. Maybe about one in every eight hundred people have it.
CelestialD: -
I'm socially awkward and sometimes terse - don't mind me.
