First Persistence Raiding - Lilith-rah, Bracken, and Jeremy
A whisper of the boiling summer heat drifted between the three rabbits’ ears, causing them to shiver in worried anticipation. The leaves had fully emerged on all the trees lining the forest's edge and as each day passed, each rabbit could swear they looked ever so slightly greener than the day before. The silence that hung between the trio was thick with fear, anticipation and dread, it seemed as thick as honey. It glooped and glued them together. Not even Jeremy dared say a word, this mission was serious. Extremely serious. They could not let it fail with them still alive.
The mission itself was the surveillance of a strange new warren that had appeared just inside the forest’s edge. Warren Delta had not known the presence of any other wild rabbits anywhere within what they considered their territory and so these newcomers were regarded with high levels of suspicion. This mission was to establish how friendly this new warren was and to establish why they had planted themselves so close to the well established Warren Delta. Only the best were chosen for this mission: Lilith-rah, the obvious choice seeing as she’s the warden of the warren; Bracken, the strongest rabbit in the entire warren; and Jeremy who’s… Honestly no one could quite put a paw on Jeremy’s role in this mission.
They approached the new warren’s location, slipping as silently through the grass and new undergrowth as they could. Lilith-rah nodded to Bracken and Jeremy before splitting off and snaking away sharply to the west. Bracken and Jeremy altered their course ever so slightly, aiming straight for the back of a rather thick fern. A shiver ran through Jeremy as she realised how close they were to the enemy. She almost squeaked in fear if it wasn’t for the well practiced glare she received from Bracken. He’d been training hard under Lilith-rah and was tied with her for most death inducing glare.
The pair reached the fern and sat to watch the rabbit holes they were assigned. All was quiet. The gentle end of spring breeze had even quieted. Not a single movement was to be seen. And so, Jeremy decided, now was the time to make a loud comment. “Well thi-” she began, cut off by a fluffy paw in her mouth and a deadly glare from her stalking partner, Bracken. The glare soon ended, though the paw remained firmly in place. Jeremy was struggling to think of anything except the last time Bracken washed this paw, it tasted utterly disgusting.
Sundown soon arrived and the pair met up with Lilith-rah once more. The warden had a rather concerned look on her face as the three met up. “I recognised some of the faces I saw. It’s not newcomers. It’s rabbits we know. I saw Nic’tyne-rah,” Lilith-rah’s expression gained a slight haunted look as she finished her sentence. Last they saw these rabbits, they were bodies scattered around the hill. They were dead, not alive, and should definitely not be wandering around digging entire new warrens.
