"hey, sunshine!" the blonde haired girl called, running up behind chance in an attempt to catch up to him.
chance took longer strides, in hope to get away from the girl. his hopes had been scrabbled as soon as the footsteps slowed beside him.
"sparkles." she spoke once more.
"what do you want, maggie?" the boy seethed.
she lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "nothing."
a loud snort came from the vampire's nose, and he rolled his shoulders forward in an attempt to adjust his sweatshirt. "then go away." he snipped, taking larger strides.
he lifted a hand and reached it back to his hood, and pulled it over his head, shielding his face from both the sun, and the girl.
"come on, chance!" the girl whined, jogging to catch up to him.
chance lifted his hand once ore and pulled the hood further, trying his best to shield his entire face. "no, maggie. just go away." he seethed, taking quicker strides, only to have maggie catching up to him once again. he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere without her ending up right next to him, not unless ran into the sky. he would do so, but he knew she would catch up to him...her and her stupid shape-shifting abilities.
maggie bounced in front of him, staring at his eyes through the hoodie, her own eyes glowing a baby-blue color. chance found himself meeting her gaze, but then shook his head.
"what." he seethed.
the blonde half-shifter looked at him, and poked his nose. at first he didn't think anything of it, and gently pushed her to the side so he could continue on with his stroll. there was nothing that was going to stop her, not yet. she bounced right in front of him once more, walking backwards as he sped up. the blonde girl lost her footing, and nearly fell backwards. chance flicked his arm out of his hoodie pocket and grabbed her wrist before she could get any closer to the ground, and pulled her up so she was standing.
"don't fall on your ass." he snipped out, drawing in a deep breath before he walked forward once more, his hand shoved in his pocket.
she had her wrist gripped where his hand had been, and clearly he had accidentally hurt her while he was keeping her from falling. he knew that she wouldn't complain about it much after the first five minutes, she would simply go back to bugging him.
"that hurt." she complained, looking up at him.
chance rolled his eyes, drawing in a deep breath. "maybe you shouldn't lose your balance, then, huh." he asked with a huff.
"you could have been a bit nicer, and not hold my wrist that tight." she looked at him, her eyes glowing a faint golden color.
he rolled his own eyes once more, releasing a loud huff before he picked up speed, hoping he'd be too quick for her to catch up.
his hopes were wrong, she caught up, even if she had to speed walk while he simply took larger, longer strides. each time his steps got quicker or larger, she had to speed up to keep up with him.
"hey, sunshi-"
he cut her off, and her eyes returned to the devilish blue, and her gaze lingered on him.
"sunshin-"
"could you not?!" he snapped, stopping abruptly, allowing her to run right into him. "that is not my name, maggie, and you know it."
maggie looked up at him, the smirk still lingering on her lips. "suuuuunshiiiiine." she cooed before she turned her head, and took quick steps forward.
he groaned in annoyance, and he walked forward as well, shaking his head. "that is not my name." he growled.
"it iiiiis your name." she turned around once more, "as well as daisy, sparkles, and of course- sunshine." she smirked before she turned around and walked right towards the mess hall/cafeteria thing.
chance hated to admit anything, but she was really the only one who ever, ever had the privilege to call him sunshine, daisy, sparkles, or any other wacky nickname she just happened to give to him. of course, he hated them, he wanted to watch them burn in hell alone with his parents beliefs about him.
to be honest with you, maggie was ground on chance- he didn't like her, like her, but she was tolerable, now that he had literally spent, like, three years with her in this academy he had begun to call home. shadow falls camp academy was really the only place he was looking to call home at this point. his actual home wasn't really his home at this point.
"you coming?"
he huffed, stepping into the mess hall/cafeteria thing. "yeah, i'm coming." he murmured before drawing in another breath, then exhaling.

PLEASE REPEAT THAT, I WASN'T LISTENING
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
( ix wc, 1252 xi )
the ocean waves lapped at the side of the boat that floated atop the ocean's surface. leilani always had a love for water, how it shifted the boat here and there, how it rocked it back and forth. the over lapping waves created a symphony that now musical piece would ever sound that beautiful. the young girl lay on her stomach on the small bed that was in her and her brother's room, staring at the wall as the cruise ship swayed to the movements of the waves.
"leilani, it's nearly time." her brother told her cheerfully.
"oh, aalona, i know." the young girl chirped, kicking her feet off to the side and rolling to the edge of the bed. "i just wish it weren't in the dining hall, it would be much prettier out on the deck. to watch the sun set over the ocean waves." she turned her head and looked at her older brother.
he gave a soft nod of agreement, "but what if it were to start raining? what would we all do then?" he asked with a tilted head, "not many of us appreciate the water that comes from the sky as much as you."
at that moment, leilani was off in her thoughts, imagining what it would be like to simply be staring up at the sky while they all ate on the deck, tables spread out among the surface of the ship, having lanterns scattered between the many tables that would be occupied by many people. the soft chorus that the waves and wind would create once together, and the soft chatter among all the boat's passengers.
"leilani." aalona spoke out, breaking the girl's train of thought.
"wait...please repeat that, i wasn't listening." the brunette spoke.
aalona shook his head before standing up, "come, leilani, we must get ready." he told her, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to her feet. "we don't want to keep mama and papa waiting."
what surprised her, was her brother had picked up mama and papa from an english friend they had met earlier that month, and had started calling their parents that. she still preferred to call her mother makuahine, and her father, makuakāne. it was generally the same thing, even while one was hawaiian and one was not.
"come, leilani, we must find a dress."
leilani followed after her brother, staring up at the ceiling as though stars would simply appear.
"how about this?" he held up a black dress, and shes came to a halt. he held the dress lower, so that it were close enough to looking as if she were actually wearing it, and then looked up at her. "yes?"
the brunette shrugged her shoulders, "i don't want to look like i want a guy." her face lit up when she saw a sun dress. it's original dark green color fading away, leaving it a beautiful green. "this." she reached into the small closet structure, and pulled out the sun dress, holding it up to her small figure. "does it look okay?"
aalona gave her a soft nod, smiling softly. "you look just as pretty as mom had on her wedding day." he complimented.
leilani cracked a smile, the heat rising in her cheeks, "thanks, aalona, but i doubt i look that beautiful."
her brother approached her with soft steps, and brought her into a hug. "oh, but you are." he told her, kissing the top of her head before releasing her. "now hurry, we mustn't be late." he lifted his hand and brushed down some hair that had crawled up. he nodded softly before he grabbed his own clothing, and walked towards the bathroom, shutting the door.
the smile remained firm on her lips, and she brought the dress towards a mirror, holding it up once more before nodding. she liked it, and if she did her hair a certain way- she knew she would look great.
she stripped of her clothing, and pulled the thin dress straps over her shoulders, adjusting the front before releasing a deep sigh, spinning slightly so that the bottom of the dress danced. she smiled as she stopped, allowing the dress to fold over and then fall to it's normal position. she couldn't help it, the dress was simply gorgeous.
aalona stepped out of the bathroom, his hair slipped off to the side with the use of some water, and of course, the use of a comb. leilani squealed at the sight of her brother, handsome, tall, strong, someone she believed she would find every girl fanning over him. she quickly scurried towards his black haired brother, and drew him into a bear hug, then releasing him as he chuckled. "what's so funny, aalona?"
"nothing," he smiled softly before clearing his throat, and looking down to see her bare feet. "best you put on your shoes."
leilani shook her head, "no, i can do with no shoes." she wiggled her toes, smiling. "it's not like anyone will see my feet, unless they, too, stare at the ground as you just had."
her brother chuckled, taking in a deep breath. "alright, leilani, do whatever pleases you." he smiled softly, putting one of his large hands on her shoulder, smiling down at her. "come, you must allow me to do your hair for you."
the girl shook her head, "no, aalona, i know my hair looks fine."
again, the boy shook his head. "no, you must allow me to do your hair." he told her, guiding her in front of he mirror, smiling softly as he grabbed the brush, smiling softly. "i wont take too long, lani, i promise."
she giggled, "it's not about how long you take, i just don't see the importance of having my hair done tonight."
"leilani kekoa kahananui, i am doing your hair, end of story." the boy said, and grabbed the brush from the other side of the table. leilani released a chuckle before allowing him to brush out her long hair. her blue eyes remained focused on the mirror as she admired what he was doing, and her soft, light brown lips remained twisted into a smile.
"it doesn't have to be fancy, aalona, it truly doesn't." the girl giggled.
her brother gave the slightest roll of his eyes and chuckled. "it won't be too fancy, i promise, my sister." he told her, walking in front of her before he began breading her hair over her shoulder. he split the hair int o two equal pieces, and took small portions of hair and brought them over to the other side, and continued to do so till he reached the bottom of her hair. he drew back, admiring the work he had finished. "there, lani, it has been done."
leilani turned at her waist, looking at the hair at different angles. "you did a magnificent job, aalona. it's truly magnificent." she looked up at him with a smile. "thank you."
aalona nodded gently. "it was no trouble, really. i wished to do that with your hair from the beginning." he told her, smiling softly. "now, lets go, i don't desire to keep mama and papa waiting any longer."
as soon as aalona said that, they were out of the small room, wide smile spread over their lips as they approached the dining holl down the long stretch of open deck. leilani was smiling the whole way there, giving a simple spin here and there, her happiness obvious to those who were around them.

I also like how you've included a lot of their culture, and popped Hawaiian words in. I live in New Zealand (Hawaiian and Maori are pretty similar) so it gives the piece a home-y aspect for me. I really like it :D
i had fun writing this tbh the way they interact made me smile

NEVER DO THAT AGAIN
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
( ix wc, 1372 xi )
so terribly written i'm so sorry haha
leilani drew in a breath, sweeping over the room full of many tapes, followed by many more. red cloth lay spread over the tables, and in the center of every table had a bouquet assembled and put into a transparent vases. each and every plate looked like it had been polished, and every spoon, knife, and fork were resting on a napkins close by. a black cloth was folded into a shape, that leilani couldn't identify. it was all set up so beautifully. they had chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, letting the light flood the room, and everyone had something fancy on.
then there was leilani, dressed in a faded light green sundress with her hair braided over her shoulder, and literally no shoes on. well, i guess it didn't matter, seeing she wasn't going too far into the room.
"it would have been wise to wear shoes," aalona pointed out to her, "but i guess it doesn't really matter. knowing you, you probably wont go further than the first table," a low chuckle left the boy's lips.
the girl slapped her brother's arm with the back of her hand. "shush," she told him, followed by a soft giggle.
her brother rolled his eyes, "whatever you say," he said, vanishing into the sea of people who filled well more than half of the room.
leilani shifted off towards the painted wall, and leaned up against it, picking at the paint on the wall. it was hard to chip away, but she was determined to get a chip of paint for no apparent reason.
very small paint chips gathered beneath her nail, and she released a huff as she dropped her hand by her side, leaning her head against the wall and staring at the ceiling.
the hawaiian girl took a few steps forward and stared down at her bare feet once more, shaking her head before looking u and turning ever so slightly so that the hem of the dress folded over slightly each time she turned, whether it be at the waist, or completely.
there was a gentle tap on her shoulders.
"sweet mother of na' wahini!" the girl yelped, spinning around quickly to see a tall figure standing in front of her.
the man, boy, whatever it was, chuckled softly, "i didn't mean to scare you," he smiled down at her, "i really didn't."
leilani shook her head, scratching at her upper arm, "no, it's fine. i wasn't paying attention much anyway. i suppose i kind of deserved it, in a way."
"the name's augustine." he told her, holding out his hand.
the girl stifled a laugh, shaking her head apologetically. "i'm sorry, but, augustine? it sounds more feminine."
the boy frowned, averting his eyes towards the ground. "okay, that played better in my head...just call me august, it works better. and it doesn't sound as...feminine."
leilani shook her head once more, "i'm sorry, that was very rude of me." she held out her hand, "the name is leilani, call me lani," she told him.
august took her hand and gave it a soft shake, as if he were going to hurt her. she gave a confused look before releasing his hand when he had released hers.
the boy pointed towards the door with his thumb. "what do you say we go out on the deck? it's getting a bit crowded in here, and i know the food wont exactly be laid out till later."
it was much more peaceful outside than it was inside, she knew that for sure. about three couples had left because of the large crowed that remained within the room. there was so much chatter going on, she could barely make out what thoughts were running inside of her head. the constant buzzing of many other noises had also blew around the room, making it only a bit more louder than it had been before.
leilani looked at august, nodding softly before she responded, "yeah, why the heck not."
the boy gave a soft nod, sliding his hands into his pockets and started walking towards the doors, glancing back at her.
she scurried forward to his side, her hands down at her sides. she looked down at her bare feet, mentally shrugging to herself before she released a sigh, looking up at the sky as they exited the room.
silence filled the night air as the dining hall doors closed behind the two of them, only the foot steps of those who were wearing shoes. the clunks the shoes let off echoed, until they finally faded off in the distance. the only other sounds were those of the waves lapping up the side of the boat, and crashing into each other.
"so, leilani, where is it you come from?" augustine asked.
leilani, lost in thought, looked up at him. "where? uh..." she looked down at her bare feet, then up at him once more, "uh, mililani." she replied, nodding gently before turning her head away. "what about you?"
the boy nodded softly before actually replying, "manchester." he answered.
she didn't know where manchester was, at all. and it was obvious. she was giving the boy a strange look.
"manchester. england." he gave a soft nod as he spoke, "surely you've heard of it?"
leilani shook her head. "not once." she released a giggle, looking up at august with a smile.
the boy shook his head before grabbing the girl's wrist. "come." he spoke, taking off in a slow jog. she had no choice but to follow, and she stumbled a few times.
she pulled back on her arm, "hey, no, i have a better idea, socks. deck." she smiled, "socks."
it was clear that the boy understood, because he released her and nodded. "well, i suppose you should get socks, aye?"
the girl looked at her feet, shrugging softly, "i suppose." she looked up at him, "got a pair on you?"
"if you mean on my feet, yes, of course, but if you mean "am i carrying any?" no...i don't think so. but my room isn't far if you need a pair."
leilani gave him a look before nodding rather slowly, "go get the socks, hurry." she rushed, releasing a low huff before clearing her throat, watching him scurry off to get the socks.
he had returned nearly as quickly as he had left, with a pair of socks in his hand. he held them out to her, and she snatched the, slightly thicker feeling, socks from his hands, and struggled to pull them onto her feet. once they were on her feet, she bobbed her head gently.
"now, shoes. off." she ordered, pointing down at the black dress shoes on his feet.
his forehead wrinkled with confusion. "oh, gosh. okay." he used his feet to take his shoes off, and shifted slightly so his shoes were against the wall. "now what?"
"now this." leilani grabbed his hand and took off in a dead run, and stopped so she slid across the cold floor. "it's fun." she told him with a giggle.
once he had tried it as well, it was clear that he had fun, even as the first try. running around the deck like complete idiots, and sliding as well, that's all they did the last thirty minutes.
eventually, leilani ended up crashing right into augustine, knocking them both to the ground. laughter filled the air, but leilani's cheeks were red with blush.
"i'm terribly sorry." she said softly before picking herself up, and pushing herself to her feet. she held out her hand, and helped him up once more.
"well, lets hope we never do that again." august teased her, smiling softly.
leilani shook her head.
augustine walked forward, "let me just say, it was your idea to go off and slide around the deck like dorks." he laughed, "so technically it was your fault."
she shook her head once more, releasing a loud giggle. "shut up."
