"Dogs! Humans!" Myst barked urgently. "Dogs?" Whisper's eyes were round with alarm." Our pups!" She gasped staring at Bramble in terror." They'll be fine." Bramble reassured her, but Myst saw that his eyes were darkened with worry. "They're mentors will take care of them." Myst murmured. " They'll be torn apart!" Whisper wailed. "Not nessasarily. Their mentors might be the ones to to get torn apart." Myst told her coolly." How could you think about their mentors at a time like this?" Whisper yelped. "Um okay. The pups are going to be fine." Myst blinked as Whisper's calm mood melted away. " The pups? Who cares about them when our lives are at stake?" Myst narrowed her eyes. Whisper's going crazy with fear! She thought. "Calm down" she soothed, " The dogs are a little busy chasing a poor little doe." Myst muttered. Bramble crouched by his mate's side and began lapping gently at her pelt, slowly and soothingly. Whisper's bristling fur began to lie flat. "I'm just worried about Windy and the others." She said. "I know" Myst sighed softly. "You better stay here until it's safe" Bramble said firmly. Myst looked up in alarm. "But-" "He's right. With dogs and humans out there, who knows what could happen!?" Whisper agreed. Myst darted towards the entrance but yelped when she bumped into Bramble's fur. She sat back, glaring at them. "Fine" Myst sighed.
She sat down stiffening as she heard the harsh grating sound of the humans and barks of the dogs. She narrowed her eyes, listening to them sniffing around the den's entrance. She pricked her ears, straining to listen, wishing she could understand what the humans were saying.A few long moments passed before the sounds faded into silence. "That was close" A voice breathed by her ear. "It was" Myst agreed. " I should leave" Myst left, without giving the pair a chance to say anything. She glacned around, alert for danger. Her stomache growled. Myst remembered said hadn't eaten since yesterday and quickly found a blackbird pecking at the ground. She crouched, and in a couple moments she held it's limp body. Myst ravenously ate it in a couple of bites. She straightened, glancing around sharply.Myst looked around for a high rock or fallen tree branch. She smiled, spotting a boulder resting by a tree. She leaped ont it and looked around, keeping all of her senses alert for danger. She ignored most of the sounds and smells except for the faint bark of the dogs, and a sudden boom. She froze, startled by the sound. Her ears twitched nervously as she flared her nostrils to pick up the scent of blood and fox mixed together. Another boom sounded, closer. This time, the scent of blood filled her nose. A frightened sound escaped her throut and she focused all her attention towards the sound of the gunshot. A shrill sqeaul erupted from just behind the undergrowth sheilding Myst. She peered through it and blinked, sadly at the rabbit laying on it's side. Humans, walked slowly towards it, their voices truimphant. Myst shivered, all her instincts telling her to run. No screaming at her.She bolted away, not bothering to go around the dense brambles., ignoring the feirce tug of thorns. Myst snarled in terror, when she heard the dogs start barking. She knew they were after her and regretted staying there so long. A hot blast of air warmed her tail-tip and Myst sped up, her fur bushing with terror. She risked glancing behind her, and saw one of the biggest dogs she'd ever seen chasing her. It snarled at her, sensing that it would be able to kill her. She lengthened her stride, easily speeding up. She jumped, frightened of the boom that suddenly sounded. Something small and black passed her and Myst knew it was from the humans. She ran, looking wildly around for a safe place to hide. There! A hole just big enough for a little fox like her was a few tail lengths away. She wriggled swiftly into it and crawled to the back, near an escape hole, far from the dogs. She crouched there, breathing hard while her fur relazed and her heartbeat slowed. Myst felt exhausted. She curled up into a tiny ball working hard to stay awake.

so just turn around and forget what you saw,
