So, where are we staying?
We'd crossed over the bridge into a small town with sandy roads.
THis side-street looks fine, Tallulah says, and flops down on the floor.
Wait a minute, I say in horror, You sleep on the floor?!
What did you expect? We don't sing in the streets for fun. We do it to feed ourselves. And we can't always afford a hotel room.
I didn't think people still slept on the floor. I thought they only did that in Jaynormain times.
Tallulah looks at me in exasperation.
Why did you join us then? You're not short of money, any idiot can see that. So, miss Posh, why did you come if you're so appalled at our way of life? Huh?
Because my old home was like a prison. My parents want me to get married to someone I'm not in love with. They want me to do this that and the other- but nobody asks me what I want. And I want to travel the world. I want to be free. I want to be happy. I thought running away could give me that.
Rich kids. They do that all the time, and half of them end up being found dead on the streets, because they never think. You're smart to have joined up with us- we could save your life.
Tallulah wasn't as kind about it, though.
I would give an arm and a leg to live the life you had! I would give up everything to know when my next meal will be and that I will be safe from weirdos and disease. I wouldn't care if I were kept in the Royal Prison, as long as I had a roof over my head. I think you should ho back.
No. We're staying. Kitty says firmly, and sits down beside the three, draping her cloak of Reese and herself. With a sigh, I flop down too, and snuggle under Kitty's cloak, handing my own to Tallulah and Brandon.
Hey, thanks. You may not be such a snob after all.
Everyone else falls asleep. But even when the moon reaches its highest point, I find it hard to... zzzzzzzzzzz....
